  • The Compton rapper opened up about the state of hip hop music on deeper level and explained where it needs to go. He also gave a surprising opinion on the Macklemore and those Grammy text messages but the thing that stood out most was when Kendrick discussed his new Outkast-esque record "i".

I mean of course that still means they can make 'non-pop' records but it technically still applies since Kendrick Lamar does not have to 'go pop' to make records like humble or loyalty. I just think Kendrick Lamar is rapper period, mainly because he has touched and rapped on so many different types of sounds. It honestly doesn't matter to me though.

    What Kendrick says from 27:00 onward is too true. That's the problem with a lot of rap music today. Sure you may find it entertaining, but it's creating a culture, a way of thinking, in black communities that no one will ever hear of or see. I've already seen the influence of it on my peers from high school. How they'd see selling dope and having hoes was what made you cool, and how being in gangs was what you were supposed to do. Dropping out of school, theivery, they thought it all made them better as people. They'd try to imitate the rappers way of life as best they could, but they missed the part where the rapper is getting paid to do all of it while they're paying with their money and their lives possibly. Hearing Kendrick speak about this himself has made me gain even more respect for him than I've already had.

      MegaMkoi Now don't get me wrong, there are some individuals who were raised in the hood and who've seen what the hood does and expresses that as an obstacle that they've overcome, but if that is all they can talk about -- they shouldn't expect to be relevant and respected for too long.
      Getting lift from your hood alone without skill is disrespectful to the art. And that "gangsta by association" shit is what them rap clowns do. Far too many rap clowns out, know what I mean?

    Kendrick Lamar is 27yrs old and he has some wisdom. He's wise beyond his years. I can tell he's been through some real tough situations. I appreciate that through his music he opens up and speaks from the heart. Real talk with his Good Kid, M.A.A.D. city album it reminded me of Snoop and Dre's The Chronic album. When that album came out I was like what the hell am I listening to? I've never heard anything like that and it had me so hyped. That's how Kendrick's album made me feel. I really dig Kendrick. He's doing something different and that's what's up.

    Half of the interview, Ebro tries to act like Uncle Ruckus, Charlemagne. Smh. Kendrick is going to have a career like Nas and Drake is going to have a career like Jay Z. I understand what Kendrick is saying, but how can black people keep supporting rapper who always raps about materialistic things or high ticket prices they can't afford? Rappers who want be on the Grammys, but don't come to the BET Awards, How many of the rappers perform at HBCUs, but you see them donating money to USC Berkley like they don't have enough money already. All l'am saying is this new generation of artists make it hard to be loyal to them cus they never support or give back to the hood once they make it.

      All lies people find inspiration in all types of music. Music is inspiration in it self. Cole, kendrick & even macklemore or in a position where they don't really have to compromise their music to sell records. But it's a lot of rappers that rap about the same things they do & nobody cares. A lot of rappers do trap, gangsta & party music but still do music with substance. They aren't the only ones trying to inspire people.

    Artists have a platform. We should make them accountable for the energy they release. Kendrick is socially aware of the lack of connection in modern day mainstream music. It's not all entertainment, and shouldn't be reduces to such. Propaganda is a system of influential symbols, that of which we should make sure we balance out. There is no balance. There should be balance. There must be balance.

    Really though stop putting drake logic and gambino in your top five lists. Thats shit for white boys to feel like they trappin in the suburbs. Seriously it goes
    Kdot
    Cole
    Joey badass
    Wale
    Lupe
    Its real artist everywhere and you talkin about studio gangster drake, eminem wannabe logic, and soft ass childish gambino who don't even like being a nigga?? I hate that shit. Real hiphop is what is relevant in the hardknock life with style and charisma. Thats what made the stereos bangin Biggie joints in the streets. Now its SINGING about pushing rock over WEAK beats, and hooks that make up half the fuckin song. These artists above make it a point to kick a ill verse everytime they spit. Lyrics flow messages on point. And while they might be on there mainstream grind for a single or two they only do it to appeal to white people who buy their album on iTunes and concert tickets. they will always always have music the street ride to even if its not poppin on the mainstream radios. Mainstream really do got the game fucked up. Just cus you think you cool listenin to that new drake joint dont mean its good you just don't have that hardknock taste so foh. If it aint hood i don't listen to it. I'll listen to keef drill squad music before I play club joints like 0-100. not tryna be a studio gangsta out here nigga

      logic had the most "hood"/hard life out of all these people and he not even white, he is mixed, or according to every other black person he is "BLACK" just like our president. He grew up in and surrounded by every hood stereotype you can think of but because some bullshit you made up in your head he aint good enough huh...gtfoh judge the music bruh

    • @BIGGboyee515

      don't be ignorant witht that "white boy shit" if you didn't notice hip-hop is white now...I don't like that it is, but open your eyes bruh!! White people are by FAR the biggest supporters of hip-hop. Black people don't go out of their way to go to concerts and buy albums like white people do. I'm mixed so Idc if I come off ignorant, Im stating facts. ALSO you don't have to be hard or come from the streets to be a good lyricist....with that being said I really like your list, but I would put 1. J Cole 2. Kendrick 3. Big K.R.I.T 4. Logic 5. Drake

    • @caleyear01
      @caleyear01 9 лет назад +3

      If this list is a list based of lyricism then it's terrible. Childish Gambino does not have good lyrics. His lyrics could've been written by a kid in elementary school. If you're referencing Rugrats and Ariel Pink in your music you're not on top of the game. His punch lines are pathetic and he constantly is bragging about how black he isn't and how he is trying to gain respect for it. Not to mention Donald says he wants to put away with hip hop stereotypes while he talks about how he gets women constantly in all of his music. "Asian girls everywhere, UCLA, You See Me bae"...are you serious???

    • @jeremydiesel7805
      @jeremydiesel7805 9 лет назад +5

      Ok first off, Donald never said he wasn't black quiet the opposite heard "Hold you down" or "Black faces" off of Royalty. Also him liking Asian girls isn't a problem heard of Jhene Aiko? He also likes white, latino, even BLACK girls yes!!!! He doesn't really speak of it on record but yeah. Anyway Gambino is very good lyrically they're is hidden meaning in a lot of his lines as for muscial taste LaRel's musical preference I actually agree with with the exception of Kendrick at #1 and J.Cole at #3 swap Cole for 1 and Kendrick #2 and that's basically my list. So yeah everyone has different musical proclavities but we shouldn't judge, we're all humans on God's green earth. Peace. Stay Blessed y'all.

      Jeremy Diesel that's what I said...I said he is obsessed with talking about being black and how black he isn't to other black people. Not sure how long you took to do your research but this isn't a rebuttal. This is you agreeing with me.

    • @jeremydiesel7805
      @jeremydiesel7805 9 лет назад +1

      I agree that he talks about about how unblack he is, but he's saying that he doesn't act like the stereotypical black guy, he is in fact black but he has tendencies that are considered white. But has black skin.

      +sean ratliff lmfao, dude i mean Aesop Rock has an amazing way of rhyming, but the topics Kendrick and Earl are by far more more profound then Aes' content. He's ill, no doubt, but putting K.dot at third is ignroance.

    I love genuine people like this. No matter what the world might say about his craft, they don't know what's going on in the mind of Kendrick. Sampling music from the Isley Brothers etc. Is what this industry needs, not to have different flavor, but to praise legends, and for people to realize the origins of hip hop. As he said it's easy to diss someone and to talk about your wealth, but really why do you rap? Music is the rhythmic poetry of life and rappers who have that luxury should consider writing about something genuine, not generic

      MrThekikster you saying sampling Jennifer Hudson was pop or the message was pop? Either way, I disagree man.

    • @MrThekikster
      @MrThekikster 9 лет назад +10

      Trevor Katende TLC was a pop music group that he sampled but Jennifer Hudson did sing it. Jennifer Hudson is RnB but the song that was sampled was definitely pop.

      Quinton Porter Not really, the female vocals really give it a pop feel. i definitely sounds a lot like funk which the sample comes from.

    I think the thing I really love about Kendrick is that he's so humble man.. He just cares about music. I'm pretty sure he doesn't smoke and drink cause he wants a clear mind when he records. Kendrick looks real focused right now. I think Kendrick Lamar understands how rare it is in mainstream hip-hop these to be as big as he is and as lyrical and conscious he is. He's using this plateau to actually have a positive impact on culture. It's pretty awesome.

      Aquariuskudo There is this weird fucking video called "Jesus Died for Your Donuts." It is a batshit crazy Christian evangelical kids show. There is a part of the episode where a sentient talking loaf of bread comes out of the oven and start quoting the bible. I screencapped the loaf and added the sunglasses and joint to it in Photoshop.

    28:37 Niggas aint bout to go out and buy albums. It's not even that deep though. It's not that we don't believe, it's just more so like: I can choose to pay and get the album or not pay and get the album. We're too technologically advanced as a society. There are several websites I can go on to download music for free. No one's music is so powerful that I would go out of my way to buy their shit. I don't care who you are. Jesus can come out and sell an album, I bet you I still download that shit for free.lls
