To be honest, it took me quite a lot of listens the whole way through TPAB to actually fuck with "u". It's crazy how on the Album Kendrick interacts with the devil through a hot girl. Someone he might want to or is expected to engage with, but when he's presented with a homeless man (someone he doesn't want to or isn't expected to engage with) it's God.

That's exactly what the devil temps you with. Everything you could ever want. God gives you what you NEED. Ironically, I've heard so many say that when they compare Kendrick with other music artists... they say other rappers give us what we want but Kendrick Lamar gives us what we need. Pretty dope.
He's so self-aware. You can see it in his eyes, too. He's been through things, he's doubted himself, he's been used, he's been tempted, he's achieved things and perhaps not felt the elation that is expected when you reach certain milestones. He's gained power and felt powerless at the same time. I saw him back in 2016 and the energy in the stadium was electric. I will never forget it. TPAB is one of my favourite albums of all time. As an artist and as a person of influence, Kendrick exists on an entirely different level. This may sound pretentious as hell but he's like the Bob Dylan of rap. He's a poet.

I'll try and explain how it makes me feel, it's like when you look into a vulnerable person's eyes and see the child version of them inside. During some parts, for half a second, he looks like a scared little boy, but he doesn't have his parent's hand to hold anymore. I've stayed away from rap and hip-hop for most of my life. I always used to think the music consisted of simplified and uninspired rhythm backing up hateful and violent vocals only aiming to gain popularity from shock value. To Pimp a Butterfly was the first rap/hip-hop album I have ever heard, and holy crap was I ever ignorant on the genre. I don't think I have ever heard a more personal and intimate record. The flow of the album is just sublime. Each track, each idea, flows effortlessly into each other painting a mosiac of different experiences. I freakin' love this album. This is the last time I judge a book by it's cover.
Please understand. I'm glad to hear that you love To Pimp A Butterfly with the same passion that most of us do, but I'll be the first one to burst your bubble; very, VERY few Hip-Hop albums are quite like To Pimp A Butterfly.
You can tell by the way Kendrick speaks that he's straightforward and real with you and not just bullshiting anything he states. What really got me was when he mentioned how his close friends died in the streets and how he felt survivors guilt on tour when it happened in the summer as he was overseas. He's really down to earth and honest.
I love how hidden Kendrick is from the media but I enjoy these conversations where he just gives us the real. This is the difference between him and Drake. This is culture.
Man, "How Much a Dollar Cost" is one of my favorites on this album. It blew and opened my mind. Ever since then I've given two homeless people extra change/money, without thinking what they're going to spend it on, and honestly feel like a better person.
+Jim Kanani yes I agree with u. Kendrick wouldn't say he has a different mission than Tupac. He would say it's the same which is why he's always looking up to Tupac. They just both grew up in different times but trying to preach the same sort of message.
The thing that strikes me about Kendrick Lamar in these interviews is his HUMILITY. He's so HUMBLE...so UNASSUMING....so DOWN TO EARTH! It's incredible that this humble man created the hip hop masterpiece that is To Pimp A Butterfly....
I was in such a bad position in my life, then I heard things like u and how much a dollar cost, sing about me, maad city, keisha's song and especially his pain. This mans music saved me and gave me the energy to find a purpose to my life and I want to meet him one day, and just thank him
Kendrick is so down to earth it's simply eyeopening. Someone with his success, someone with his intellectuality, its amazing to see he's still right here with us and not flying off into the space of fame and money. I find so many similarities between me and him beneath the skin. I hope one day I'll be able to be in his position in a different way, and pimp the butterfly for good.
Big up my brother Kendrick, you're an old soul and we are privileged to witness your talent. It's beautiful to know that your experience in South Africa contributed to your growth. We love you bro!
Driving around Johannesburg will change your perspective on life. As a black South African, I say appreciate everything you have, because someone else got it worse.
“u” is my all-time favourite song by Kendrick, with “untitled 05 | 09.21.2014.” very closely following behind. That passion. That rawness. That soulful nakedness that most are afraid to bear. A reason for living. A reason for believing something…
"How is it that I can reach people around the world and not reach the ones closet to me" That is "real talk" Honesty is the most Admirable trait in Humankind
3:03 - 4:56 You can tell he has *a lot* of pain inside of him he still has surpressed despite how therapeutic music is for him. I saw his interview about losing his homies back in Compton on VICE news.
" And he told me GOD BLESS YOU" I teared as I heard those words as I have experienced the same situation and I couldn't describe how I felt about it till I heard those words by kendrick
Kendrick you say"What can you do?" You already doing it. Your talent, love, etc inspires me. You are a person you can learn a lot from. Drake if you could embrace instead of hate you can learn something. Embrace the goodness in others. The facts r out there. The concert he had in Austin Texas wow. Everybody love him. Kendrick is able to reach all with different styles of music;poetry.
Kendrick has discovered simplicity. It found him unexpectedly, and it blew his mind. Sometimes it’s uneasy to unravel your feelings, you want to be clear and in touch with your life experiences before you just speak. He did well enough.
I love Kendrick's many interpretations of Pimping the Butterfly, where it's sometimes other people doing it with his art and sometimes him doing it with his own art. Like, I'm going to have to use this pain and these stories, or it's going to drown me.
I am struggling so much with deep sadness I am not sure if it's sadness or depression. I am going through deep grief and wish I had more people in my life who were real and understood me. Listening to Kendrick brings me so much comfort it's bittersweet I wish I had someone in my life that wise and emotional but don't. It's lonely I appreciate his music so much wish I could meet more people like him
Props to the guy interviewing really really dope interview. Kendrick is just way ahead of the curve so much wisdom and a very high intellectual human being I love his music
I literally have my moments when I'm chillin with my friend or my brother and I suddenly just think about summin from TPAB or GKMC or any of Kendrick's albums, and we literally sit for hours and talk about his lyrics and meaning and deeper meanings within songs and their titles themselves. Rare to come across not just a rapper than you can do this with but an artist in general. Find it fun as hell haha, and besides from his music being so good, it's one of the main factors why Kendrick is my favorite artist
God please protect this man.

Please understand. I'm glad to hear that you love To Pimp A Butterfly with the same passion that most of us do, but I'll be the first one to burst your bubble; very, VERY few Hip-Hop albums are quite like To Pimp A Butterfly.
Hip Hop would be boring if every album was like TPAB. Album is a classic, but serious stuff all the time would get annoying and depressing.
That is why you don't listen to radio hip hop and judge the entire genre by the shit music they play there
Jsalcedo23
Kendrick music is on the radio.
Please understand. Listen to some Old Nas , New Wale album , Joey BadA$$ and Logic.
This guy is one of the good guys. A very rare breed indeed these days
RACIST
+Piano Girl stfu kid. Go watch Taylor swift
ever heard rare breed? 🙌🏽
Man, "How Much a Dollar Cost" is one of my favorites on this album. It blew and opened my mind. Ever since then I've given two homeless people extra change/money, without thinking what they're going to spend it on, and honestly feel like a better person.
Kendrick isn't 2 Pac. He could be the "brain"that Pac said he would "spark", but these are 2 different individuals on a different mission.
+Fleezy81 I believe they have the same mission just a little bit different approach. Kinda like Malcolm X and MLK
+Jim Kanani yes I agree with u. Kendrick wouldn't say he has a different mission than Tupac. He would say it's the same which is why he's always looking up to Tupac. They just both grew up in different times but trying to preach the same sort of message.
+JOHN HINOJOSA Did you mean Kendrick is the reincarnation of Tupac?
+Fleezy81 I'd say Kendrick is something like the Pac of your generation. Glad he also gets all the praise he deserves.
+JOHN HINOJOSA I dont see the J cole comparison at all gtf with that kendrick on a way different level
I can listen to him talk all day .💯
Years later and his music is very relevant especially during this pandemic of young people having depression
love that he was so open about this! "Mental Illness" is real and too many of us are sweeping this under the rug.
I love him
he’s a gift from God🥺
Kendrick has such sad eyes, you can tell he's seen terrible things.
His eyes are like that because of a genetic defect.
dash the hitman what was that song he said it in again? I remember that verse.
GOYARD THUGGER thanks
@4115 Entertainment lol I got that reference :)
He looked so tired
The thing that strikes me about Kendrick Lamar in these interviews is his HUMILITY. He's so HUMBLE...so UNASSUMING....so DOWN TO EARTH! It's incredible that this humble man created the hip hop masterpiece that is To Pimp A Butterfly....
Your comment aged well
"I can either pimp this situation or I can fall a victim to it" - that's deep and inspiring
i love kendrick he so real, man 😭
I love this interview, you could really sense some realness & authenticity from this.
I love it -- so realll...
Hearing Kendrick's voice is honestly therapeuthic, really helping... Peace
GOD WHY CANT I EVER MEET A MAN LIKE THIS😭😭😭😭 I DONT EVEN CARE THAT HE'S SHORT, I WANT HIS MIND!
sameee and honestly his mind, talent and aura makes him taller than most men out here
Praying that us girls all find a man like Kendrick someday ♥️
Kendrick & Nas are gifts, they transcend the genre
this guy is a for real genius. This album is one of the best and most complex works of human expression ever made.
I was in such a bad position in my life, then I heard things like u and how much a dollar cost, sing about me, maad city, keisha's song and especially his pain. This mans music saved me and gave me the energy to find a purpose to my life and I want to meet him one day, and just thank him
power of music man
+Piano Girl wtf
You gotten to meet him yet?
I'm just gonna say it. Very few people in hip hop are as down to earth, clever and as ground-breaking as Kendrick.

Kendrick is definitely one of my favorite rappers of this generation
He seems so close to tears
Driving around Johannesburg will change your perspective on life. As a black South African, I say appreciate everything you have, because someone else got it worse.
“u” is my all-time favourite song by Kendrick, with “untitled 05 | 09.21.2014.” very closely following behind. That passion. That rawness. That soulful nakedness that most are afraid to bear. A reason for living. A reason for believing something…
There's so much charisma in Kendrick. The way he talks and his expression
damn I need to appreciate this man so much more before he dies cause there ain't too many like him left in this game.
"How is it that I can reach people around the world and not reach the ones closet to me" That is "real talk" Honesty is the most Admirable trait in Humankind
Seems more like two friends talking. LOVE THIS
Both of them have such a calming presence.
I genuinely love this man.
So real.
DANG!
His honesty and humbleness is so amazing! Goat!!!

You can tell he has *a lot* of pain inside of him he still has surpressed despite how therapeutic music is for him. I saw his interview about losing his homies back in Compton on VICE news.
Yeah, you can see the pain through his eyes. He has sad eyes...Im sorry for him...
also genetic de
"How Much a Dollar Cost" is the best song I heard since K-Rino's "Solitary Confinement" ...Deep songs
" And he told me GOD BLESS YOU"
I teared as I heard those words as I have experienced the same situation and I couldn't describe how I felt about it till I heard those words by kendrick
the vulnerability of this interview is absolutely stunning. the part about bums being angels--beautiful
Kendrick forever. He's just the definition of love and a great human being. OMG I love this man soooooo much.
Factszzz! 💯😍💣❤🙏🏽💫👀👌🏽🎯💥🤩
As someone who hasnt been through nearly as much as kendrick, but does strugglr with depressioj etc. It really helps me listening to him.
One of my favorite MC's of all time
Standing in the gap for Kendrick in prayer in 2024!
I'm watching on a king in the making
Hes been a king hes more than a king now..
ADAJ3 I'm going to use this as a quote!
You was correct
Kendrick you say"What can you do?" You already doing it. Your talent, love, etc inspires me. You are a person you can learn a lot from. Drake if you could embrace instead of hate you can learn something. Embrace the goodness in others. The facts r out there. The concert he had in Austin Texas wow. Everybody love him. Kendrick is able to reach all with different styles of music;poetry.
He's so real and humble. Much love to him
He’s such a different person today a lot of weight is lifted off his shoulders and his eyes are happier now ❤❤❤❤ God bless him ❤
Kendrick has discovered simplicity. It found him unexpectedly, and it blew his mind. Sometimes it’s uneasy to unravel your feelings, you want to be clear and in touch with your life experiences before you just speak. He did well enough.
Hearing this was emotional. God bless his soul, Kendrick does so much for all hes gone through.
The realest interview I've ever seen to date. Kendrick Lamar is a living masterpiece. Truly phenomenal 🙏❤🙌
I love Kendrick, he’s so real and so raw 😫😍
The silence and lack of background music is greatly appreciated. The central focus is very serious and calls for that same silence.
I love Kendrick's many interpretations of Pimping the Butterfly, where it's sometimes other people doing it with his art and sometimes him doing it with his own art.
Like, I'm going to have to use this pain and these stories, or it's going to drown me.
South Africa 🇿🇦 is proud of u Kendrick
I am struggling so much with deep sadness I am not sure if it's sadness or depression. I am going through deep grief and wish I had more people in my life who were real and understood me. Listening to Kendrick brings me so much comfort it's bittersweet I wish I had someone in my life that wise and emotional but don't. It's lonely I appreciate his music so much wish I could meet more people like him
go up man! hope u good now
hope you’re feeling better ❤
The goat 🐐
Props to the guy interviewing really really dope interview. Kendrick is just way ahead of the curve so much wisdom and a very high intellectual human being I love his music
I literally have my moments when I'm chillin with my friend or my brother and I suddenly just think about summin from TPAB or GKMC or any of Kendrick's albums, and we literally sit for hours and talk about his lyrics and meaning and deeper meanings within songs and their titles themselves. Rare to come across not just a rapper than you can do this with but an artist in general. Find it fun as hell haha, and besides from his music being so good, it's one of the main factors why Kendrick is my favorite artist
dude same lol
There is a reason why people love him. His words have such weight and raps have such substance
Im from and in south africa, i dont listen to hip hop, but when i heard "alright" it gave me so much hope, and light
4:59 "It don't happen that quick" is a great line from the interviewer.
Kendrick and Rob were both great in this. So glad I watched it.
