It's nuts how they managed to make the world map areas massive, then you realise they're they're tiny little sections of world map, it will be interesting to see if when we fly in high wind it shows a scale that matches the world map in the menu or if it will look more like the playable sections stitched together. Great video, I hope they can include the compilation locations you mentioned.
It’s a little strange for sure. I feel like they’ve shot themselves in the foot with this. The map gives the illusion of a big world map, but when it comes to actual play area is tiny. It doesn’t compare well to other games that have legitimately big open world maps. I was personally disappointed with rebirth, the graphical issues and the map being one of them. I didn’t like how they just made large zones, and how it doesn’t actually match up to the map on screen. Then like you said you realise it’s just a really small part of the area you get the play in. There really isn’t much in terms of exploration. Regarding the Highwind, I have no idea how that’s going to work. Are there going to be seepage maps for when you’re flying around? Like there will be a large world map underneath the high wind just like the map screen and then when you descend the screen goes black and loads the area you can actually play in? That sound outdated to me but I imagine it’s going to be something similar. Then again, I felt rebirth had a lot of outdated ideas in it anyway, especially the map and check list copy paste objectives. I had the impression when the first gameplay videos were shown with the grasslands it was going to be much bigger and more explorable than it really was and that feeling followed me throughout the game. I just kept thinking how small everything felt, a lot of “illusion” of scale when the actual play areas were small. Some were okay thought like the golden saucer desert as an example.
@@axelstone3131I’m shocked to hear that you felt the explorable areas seemed small. I thought each area was just the right size. Definitely was bigger than FFXVI. Plus each area had various dungeons and caves. I think once we are able to explore with the Highwind, you will get to see more of the world which is likely explorable in some ways. I’m sure they wanted to save some exploration for the third installment. If you noticed, there were areas of Gongaga that could not be reached even though you could see it in the distance.
I think the areas will look much bigger from the Highwind especially since you will be so high in the sky. They gave us a small preview when flying in the tiny bronco. You could see in the distance how massive each area was.
@@Dis2good you know what I loved remake but felt immensely let down and disappointed with rebirth, it felt dated graphically and from a game design/world map point of view. This is just my opinion, I’ve been gaming most of my life and maybe I was just burnt out with it all at the time. Personal problems affected how I felt about it and could enjoy it like i used to enjoy gaming. I honestly feel ff15 is a better looking game than rebirth, it has a clear resolution and in herbal the world feels like.. disconnected? Even thought its not as big if that makes sense. Of course I’ll get part 3, I’m looking forward to the high wind and the submarine, exploding the ocean depths but just felt like rebirth looks awful graphically, some parts really looked like it could have been on a ps3, shop interiors/poor textures etc. Honestly if I could I’d get a ps5 pro just for the massive graphical improvements of the game but I feel like it was just very poorly optimised on ps5 and had nothing to do with the system’s capabilities.
@@axelstone3131 what type of TV were you on? I thought Rebirth was much better overall than Remake. I actually upgraded my TV once i got the PS5 so it definitely made a difference. I also pre-ordered the PS5 PRO and plan to play Rebirth again. I think that will make a difference, especially after watching the Digital Foundry comparison video seeing the 2 side by side.
Since I finished rebirth, I've become increasingly confident that we're not gonna be able to pilot the Highwind until we get control of Cid as the Party leader in Mideel. I also believe that the Ultima weapon will attack Mideel twice, once when we get there as Tifa and the second when we go back as Cid. The first fight with Ultima Weapon would be a callback of sorts to chasing it across the map, and while it does so it's going to destroy loads of parts of the map, making more areas accessible. I think the perfect example is the path from the Junon region to Fort Condor. Post weapon attack, you'd now be able to walk there through the destruction that Ultima weapon has caused (and you'd probably see the residents of Fort Condor come out to defend it and probably have a sidequest or two relating to some Fort Condor citizens exploring the world. It'd be a great way to show the devastation the weapons can bring, but also a great way to keep old maps fresh for an entirely new game. It just makes too much sense to me.
I imagine if we can fly around on the Highwind that we will rise up into a slightly lower res version of the world map. As we fly over, we either will or won’t be able to land depending on where we are. As we land, there will be a seamless transition to the playable world map. Fingers crossed.
Just as about I'm to go sleep, you post this... I'm instantly reminded of the map differences DMs that I sent you. Can't wait to check this out tomorrow!
I love these type of videos so much. What side of Midgar woukd you place Edge from AC? Or whatever crazy "bridge" Cloud took to get from Edge to the Forgotten City somehow lol. Or maybe we'll get a Vincent hometown? Then theres Great Glacier/Gaea's Cliff. 😭😭😭 Im so excited
Crazy. This shows how small the world really is in terms of what you can explore. It’s tiny. We have the illusion the world is big but in terms of what you actually explore is very small. Great video. Very good insightful and interesting. Good work 👍🏻
I absolutely LOVE that you included all of the locations that are from every work of media ff7-related here! I cannot stop thinking about the possibilities of which locations will be integrated into the story and which will be optional exploration. Regarding Ancient Forest, I'm of the opinion that it'll be relocated, much like Temple of the Ancients was. I suspect it'll be aligned somewhere to the north and connect to both Bone Village and The City of the Ancients, traversal-wise.
Great video! In OG with the Gaia mod, if you zoom all the way out, you realize it actually isn’t a globe. It’s exactly what you described here. It just repopulates and is a little curved.
Awesome video, good idea for Bone Village as well would make sense to just swap the two locations around, I could also see Bone Village in the Rocket Town Region as well as it's a massive region
Those ff7R videos are insanely good! I don’t think you’ve missed anything, just hope SE see this so we don’t get disappointed with something missing from your predictions 😅
Lo an' behold... The Cartographer of HYPE!! With a promotional image of Cid sitting atop the Bronco, I'd assume he's in the Rocket Town Region where it's looking like a foresty-like area. Also would be cool for Cloud to have a moment near Midgar where Zack originally died too, not to mention the ruined reactor in Modeoheim.
Man that would be really cool if we could visit cliff resort, ever since I saw it in advent children I’ve alsways thought it was a really cool looking place. I wish we could ride fenrir open world and wear clouds advent children outfit
A point of criticism. If I'm not mistaken. The Sister Ray should point towards Wutai, no? Right now it's just pointing towards nowhere. Not that it does in the OG either, but I think it's been mentioned somwhere.
Yeah I feel like I remember it being mentioned too - that it could reach Wutai. It's definitely not pointed at Wutai but maybe it can shift left and right as well as up and down? That's the only thing I got to try and make it make sense haha
@@FinalFanTV Cool. And well done on the map! I love this kind of theorizing stuff, and can watch lore videos about FFVII for hours. Just thought this detail was worth keeping in mind. Keep it up! Also. Did you notice that the sun sets into the west in Junon (into the sea), but sets into the East in Costa Del Sol?
If they do a globe and want it to be similar to Earth just as an example; I think the World of Gaia would mostly be a water world. The explorable landmass is quite small if you want to compare it to a "realistic" planet. Not that it needs to be realistic (It's fantasy after all), but if they do a globe, the curvature of the planet would be painfully obvious when flying around in the highwind, since it's such a small world.
I'm most excited to see the world with Meteor looming overhead. I hope it alters the lighting and makes the game look all gloomy : < Kinda like in 16 but not so bad FPS
Snowboarding and Submarine battle should be baked right into the story but I think the way to go is making a majority of any other minigames optional. I actually want all the Rebirth mini games to return at The Gold Saucer and them to add even more! And add matchmaking for multiplayer! Haha
I love it! Although, the game came out in North America on 9/7/27 - so 9/7/27 would be a good date too. Exactly 30 years later. I’ll bet money on either!
As always shock-reviving my slumbering hype for this trilogy and the franchise as a whole. ❤ Thank you I just love love love all the world map stuff. Simply opening up a world map at the beginning of an open world game is enough to get my heart pumping with excitement for the great adventure ahead. ☺ I just wish I could play Rebirth for the first time again. 🥲
Looking out at Midgar from the cliff = means no Red looking out 500 later? Seeing how much they need to go through, maybe ancient forest and bone village is simply lost, but let's hope not. Phenomenal & astonishing sublime video of awesomeness, you really put a lot of work into this. Glad I could be of some help. GIVE ME THE GLOBE!!!! Would it even be possible on PS5? Surely the game would take up most of the hard drive, Midgar would be 100GB at least
Midgar was never fully explorable. The world map will take up most of the space. I assume around 200GB tho
I have a feeling Midgar will not be explorable in Part 3, but Square-Enix will make up for it with something else.
