I am aslo a happy owner of MK4 1.4. Yeah it has no any power in that engine but the suspension and headling - just great! Golg mk4 makes some emotions in cruising across streets or working with it's stearing wheel in some powerslide. I think that mk4 has a nice talent in turning with some speed and have small fuel consumption by the way!
I have been fortunate to test a vw golf tdi 1.9 asv unit from 2001, standard power 81kw. In relatively good condition. It is a car that delivers power from first gear from 3100 revs. It is a vehicle that stands the years very well both in bodywork and mechanics. Although it is uncomfortable to drive in town, it is very comfortable to drive on secondary roads.
I own that exact car. It's underpowered imo. Driving in the city is OK, but never go to serpentines. Sometimes you have to go to 1st gear to drive up serpentines... Also overtaking is dangerous because of lack of power...
I've had a mk4 1.9 pd150 gt tdi mapped to 190hp but rust and other engine issues killed it so now im in a 1.6 16v that is 103hp, This feels painfully slow at times I can only imagine what the 1.4 feels like

My VW Golf Mk4 1.9 tdi 130 is almost 23 years old, with 250.209 miles as of today 09.12.2024 - and she is only just run in 😂. Has at least another 250,000 miles, then when she's on half-a-million miles I may look at having the tyres changed 👍 AE51 OED is the registration. Mind you my BMW E46 330 M-Sport with a straight six engine was on 200,000 miles and looked brand new with that mileage too! . Happy motoring everyone 💓

Overall it's okay, mine is btw way quicker.. i am doing 12.9 0-100, max speed 182km/h (alone), mine is in a really good condition with 230.000km still driving great. But.. 75hp is not good for daily autobahn, sadly i have to drive this car "until it breaks" because i am a student with not a lot of money.
thet car he was testing is in a bad shape i have the same 1,4 petrol in my vw bora and its sounds so much diffrent on idel and when u drive it full gas
@@safersisic9562 i know it is on bad shape, but most of them sound like this, tappety and clicky since they crap piston rings, crap alloys used in the block construction, which is aluminum. Most of them need segmentation at barely 150k km, whereas the tdis in this generation easily do over 500k. All in all a failure, the 1.6 8v ASR engine that is from golf 3 is a much better and stronger engine.
My dad has a mk 4 that sounds way better, maybe bc we’re both mechanics that take care of it, or it is the fat v5 in the car? But it sure doesn’t sound like crap and i know that for a fact
I had this car as my first, it only costed me 600 to buy with 160k Kilometers down. I made inspection 100 euros, 4 new tires 200 Euros und 100 Euros for new oil, filters etc. So all in all I payed 1000 Euros and that is so cheap and I drove so much with it . 160 on Autobahn no Problem for 200 Kilometers straight multiple times.

One of my relatives had a Golf 4, like 5-6 years ago but it was 1.9 TDI…it was very practical, fun and reliable (he now has a 2003 Passat which it’s also 1.9 TDI, but not reliable as that Golf 4 he had)
I tested my brakes last night from 60-0 MPH mine is the 1.9 pd130 3 door. Stopping power is good for the age! The brake pedal did judder a bit but of course that's just the abs kicking in.
I had several Golf For me, the best generation are the IV the II and more recently the VII, Those 3 generations are really in advance comparatively to the others cars.

1.6 has way more problems. The 1.4 is kinda a pretty good engine. The knocking sound you hear with 1.4 doesnt cause major damage btw
