It won't be fast, it won't be efficient, but they'll think it's fast cause of the name... - Name? What will the name be...???? - 1.4 16V!!!

Yeah exactly, I have 1.6 100HP in Mk1 Octavia (basically Golf 4) and it's already quite slow and very inefficient. Can't imagine driving with this 😂
Yeah this engine also has 100 hp version. I have it in my fabia mk1. It's insane how engine rated to be 100 hp is so awfull fo drive. You have to rev it like chainsaw to see something to happen. VW made big mistake when they didn't put VVT system to these engines. They miss torque in low rpms so they feel extremely slugish. Only somewhat good is engine with code BUD. It is 59 KW version. It may not sound like much, but actually it is the most pleasant version of this engine family to drive.
kinda sad how renault had a 1.2l 16v engine with 75hp and vw needed 200cc more displacement to get the same power. youd think it is vw so it is more premium but no
Mine is a 2.0 litre GTi as my first car and it’s an absolute fantastic car! One of the best cars I ever driven! Easy to drive and really practical daily car to drive!
i have Golf 4 1.9TDi 66kw chipped. Has around 120HP atm. car feels fast. i gota say that for sure. But thats because of the Turbo ,thats doing all the job.
The sad truth is that people think that the more herrsprrs (horsepower) a car has, the faster they can get from A to B. What they do not take into account are; traffic jams are traffic jams, for small compacts as well as coffin carriers -- the more complex a car is, the more you need to dish out to keep it in shape, especially if it is not new. Now, VW made these Golfs (I believe up until their last 2 or 3 iterations) with the goal in mind; keep it simple, keep it acceptable. 75 HP is not a boogie from a 1.4 today. Still it is enough to give you the feeling you are going somewhere. (Look at it rev past 4000 and make no fuss). If and when my car has to go .. I will be tempted to either get one of the older Golfs OR even one of them SDi Lupos ... cuz .. you know; "it ain't fast, rather slow". Thanks, Joe! PS: Three people I know had these cars. One won't sell it; father's kid faring bag of rage. The other sold it, got a Meriva - she did regret it, the Meriva was a mechanical letdown. The third one kept driving it, even when the oil from the engine went to the cooling reservoir - it had a bad head gasket, still it was going every time it was started.
