Attack on Titan Got Its Ending Changed and Its Even Worse Than The Original

- A few weeks ago Attack on Titan "Shingeki no Kyojin" came to a conclusion in the Manga with chapter 139. Much of the community hated the ending of the original chapter. However Isayama Hajime the writer of AoT "SnK" went on record to say he'd be adding 8 more pages to the conclusion of the series. So at long last the 8 pages are here and boy do they complicated things even further than before. First up Jean little lives and dies in Eren's shadow as a second fiddle. Mikasa may have ended up having children with Jean, but she never let go of Eren and died with his scarf on her. Then we move onto how the original ending had titans becoming extinct, but the new addition shows titans are still alive and continuing the cycle. To make matters worse Mikasa's entire bloodline is now cursed by the Titan Shifting power. So Eren may have saved a "few" of his friends, but he punished their descendants with the exact same problems.

How did you feel about the new pages added to Attack on Titan?
My question is why?

Mikasa walking across the ocean with a decapitated head is still the most outrageous thing of this chapter.

The fact that she walks with his head through all the blood and bones of all the people he has killed and still visited his grave and wanted to seem him again is absurd. @Friendly Yoyo correct we just pretend he was good mc, we thought he developed but he never did.
@Friendly Yoyo bro. No matter the humanity fight and killing is for resources throughout history. They never killed base one race or whatever ? I think AOT more sense if it was about resource than races and hate. One more things if Isayame really reality Eren should have gone ful rumbling destroyed everything. We all know we human do what ever takes to win the war cheat. Light was more realistic he was just nerfed by the he killed his dad and his close friend just to achieve his goal while Eren no.the destruction of parade came so later after Eren many after 60 or 70 years which is not realistic. The world knew parade have no longer shield and spear to fight and defend. I am sure people will never buy same trick twice, Armin and rest used some trick as tybur and fritz.
@Friendly Yoyo Isayama has called so many characters his favorite character (including eren) that it has literally gone out of style. Eren was only an idiot in the rumbling arc because in the previous arcs, he was pulling off some truly 5 head plans. Regardless of whatever point this ending is trying to make, it fit in the story of AoT because it wasnt set up properly and it doesnt align with the themes of AoT.
Rest in Peace Kentaro Miura.

@@dchen8874 Eren as a bird: "Ayo wtf I flew away for one century & everything's gone to shit again?! Now we're continuing my story??"
I’ve been following the story since 2013 and I’ve never felt so disappointed to see this ending. I really really don’t understand Isayama... the same person who wrote chapters 121-123 did not write 139, it’s impossible right?
Exactly
Agreed, im done.
I really wish he just secretly stopped writing & it was actually an intern or editor continuing 139 in reality
He is a hack. Well pure luck you can say. He literally uses this story as a revenge to society. The founding father of gundam, literally understand isayama's motive to write the story. Isayama's bad past has all been put into AOT. In an interview, he literally says he likes to betray his readers and leave a bad taste for the fans forever. It's his way to let his work be remembered forever.
You should take a step back from your emotions and see what it's portraying rather than projecting all your head canon. I'm seeing a lot of ppl that hate it do this mistake. When I calm them down and talk rationally, they realize how they were wrong
Basically Eren, Floch, and the Yaegerists were all vindicated. Genociding the outside world was the only answer and Armin/the Alliance doomed Paradis to extinction by stopping Eren from carrying out the Rumbling. I guess the moral of the story is once you start genocide you make sure to finish and don't stop part-way through.
How did Armin and the Alliance doom Paradis to extinction? The panel of Paradis when Mikasa visits Eren's grave showed it to be thriving for decades or even centuries (judging by the tree) before it got attacked so they must've done something right. I don't expect them to establish everlasting peace beyond the grave so seeing Paradis get destroyed was sad yet realistic. That's like blaming Abraham Lincoln for the Iraq War for not establishing perennial peace. The people in charge after they're deaths were the ones who doomed Paradis imo. I just see the ending as a cautionary tale of what would happen if the next generation doesn't learn from history. But to each their own.
@@rei-ef6xm Because if Armin and the Alliance wouldn't have stopped Eren from carrying out the Rumbling, then Paradis wouldn't have had any enemies anymore and they never would've gotten bombed into oblivion. They would have lived forever, just like Floch said, if they had just carried out the genocide.
Also, imagine thinking that the reason the outside world didn't destroy Paradis right away was because Armin was actually able to convince them not to lmao. No dude, the only reason why the outside world didn't wipe Paradis out right away had nothing to do with Armin, it was because Eren destroyed 80% of the world and wiped out all their infrastructure. It took the rest of the world at least 50 years to recover and get their military strength back, and I'm sure as soon as they were recovered they destroyed Paradis right away. Armin couldn't do shit, he and all the other alliance members got to live the rest of their lives in luxury while the rest of the world rebuilt to annihilate their descendants.
@@eurocentrist1194 If Eren successfully committed global genocide without any opposition from the Alliance, that would perpetuate the idea that global genocide is justified to achieve an end result, which is a horrible message imo. Even if he killed all of humanity outside of the walls, I think there'd still be inner conflict and infighting within Paradis because like Erwin said, "Humanity will never stop fighting itself until it shrinks to a size of one or fewer". And correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was implied that the population of Paradis was close to about one million. I think 20% of the world population is still significantly larger than Paradis even if you include the island itself, so those outside could've attacked and done some damage to Paradis if they wanted to imo. But I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. And I'm a girl btw, but that's okay. This isn't the first time I've been mistaken for a guy.
@@rei-ef6xm First off, I disagree that it would have been a horrible ending. It would have been an amazing ending, it would have been like one of those Greek epic tragedies from 2,000 years ago. Imagine Eren having to kill all of his friends, literally sacrificing everything, so that his people could be free. An ending where all the scouts are dead, the world is dead, and then Eren kills himself out of grief for what he's done, so essentially the entire cast is dead at the end of the story, would have been a very powerful ending and one that would have been remembered forever. It would have immortalized the story forever, as that one manga that had the guts to kill off all the main characters. Remember, the world of AoT is cruel and harsh, that's been a running theme of the show since the very beginning. In this world where diplomacy isn't an option, where the only choice is to either kill your enemies or be killed, the Rumbling makes a lot more sense. Eren never wanted to do this, you can see that he's torn up about it, but he knows he has to do it in order to secure a future for his race in this cold world that wants him and his people dead. We just don't get stories like that in this modern world anymore. Eren winning would have shattered the power of friendship paradigm and brought a new element of realism into shonen manga. It would have completely changed the entire industry.
Also, I don't see how there would have been any inner conflict, at least not for a long time. Remember that all of the people in Paradis are Yaegerists. They're all nationalists supporting Eren and the rumbling. The manga even shows how Armin and the Alliance are perceived as traitors to Paradis by the overwhelming majority of the population. The only thing that the Eldians in Paradis really disagree about is whether they should fight the outside world or not. If the Yaegerists just went ahead and destroyed the outside world then there wouldn't be anything to disagree about anymore. Sure, the Alliance might have been a little upset that Paradis carried out a massive genocide, but in the end what could they do about it? Burning down Paradis and killing all of their loved ones, the vast majority of whom supported the genocide, isn't really going to change anything in the long run. If Paradis was going to have a civil war it wouldn't be over the Rumbling, it would have taken place decades or centuries later over some other issue. Besides, Eren wasn't fighting to ensure that there were never any wars again, Eren knew that there would be conflict in the future, as that's part of human nature. No, Eren was fighting to ensure that Paradis would have a future, he was fighting to ensure that they wouldn't get exterminated immediately. Either way you look at it a genocide was going to take place, it was either going to be the rest of the world or the Eldians, that's the kind of harsh world that AoT is.
Lastly, don't flatter yourself, there are no girls on the internet.
@@eurocentrist1194 Yeah I respectfully disagree that Eren killing everyone and then himself would be similar to actual Greek epics like The Iliad or The Odyssey but, again, to each their own. And yes, one of the most famous lines in AoT is that "the world is cruel and merciless... but it is also very beautiful" as shown in Chapters 50, 106, 108, and 137 just to name a few. There will always be periods of progress and destruction, but if the Hallucigenia is used again by the boy, I would hope that he'd wish for some sort of peace since he's living in a war-torn area. It was implied that the Power of the Titans was created from Ymir's will out of fear and desperation since she wished for a strong, undying body and the Hallucigenia granted her subconscious wish and created the Power of the Titans as a result. So maybe he'll use it differently and hopefully in a better way since his wishes, fears, and situation aren't the same as hers. Is it idealistic? Absolutely. But I like to believe in the goodness and decency of people.
I also don't think all of the people in Paradis are yeagerists. Those who were against them were the named characters we know and care about like Sasha's family, Nicolo, Flegel, Roy, and Peaure. In 125, there were Eldians who were killed because of the wall titans and some people were understandably against Eren and even though it's not explicitly shown in 139, it's not a much of a stretch to think that they'd still be against what Eren did.
And of course there aren't any girls on the internet, my mistake 😅. But seriously, your response is a lot nicer than others. I'm not going to respond anymore because this can theoretically go on for a long time and I think I've said all I wanted to say. But thanks for having a civilized discussion with me. I disagree with a lot of your opinions, but I respect them.
I imagine Jean and Mikasa "doing it" and Mikasa screaming "Eren!" and Jean being like "..."

The more likely ending that I thought before the chapter 137 is something like Ragnarok (norse mythology), ANR ending or timeloop. Yet, it's the exact same plan Lelouch has but worst and poorly executed.. this extra 8 page doesn't make it better. Truly huge miss for such series like AOT. Someone copying a concept can't compete with the original.

8:02 this is SUCH a great point. The fact that Eren made conscious choices involving letting loved ones die (or maybe provoking their deaths) in order to be in control is so stupid because he in the end has no idea what will happen in the long term, he just cares for Mikasa, Armin, etc.? Really? Lame af. Perhaps the author shouldn't have introduced the control the past plot point becuase he seems to have done it only for the "cool reveal" I guess.
Nah the problem is eren saying that he was a slave all along and that he wante dto be with shitkasa was the worst dialogue choices
Becoz we know as the readers that eren was fully in control of everything ,so basically inorder to make himself feel good in front of Armin he said that
Now this is what I hated from the writing choice Isayama took
Instead he could have said
"Armin, the thing is I was so conflicted when I saw some kids being trampled ,it reminded me of those days when I was afraid of the titans,on that day of shiganshina ,when they broke through the wall, and that is why I remember the times when Mikasa was always by my side as a mother telling me to come home ,Armin I made the wrong choice despite having the power, can you all forgive me for taking the wrong choice"

"I don't want that ,i wanted to be with

Imagine Code Geass except a real evil dictator comes into power after Lelouch and completely crushes the rebellion and marries Nunnally.
That would be a good ending, because what are heroes without villains. It makes more sense that there is a cycle, as in that world their will always be humans who are rejected by society, some who just want to let loose their quirk, some that have a quirk that goes against society norms, etc. This is more likely as quirks become more complex.
In the case of Attack on Titan, the fact that Eren's entire arc revolved around ending the cycle, just so that in a couple of centuries for it to start again, feels like a bad way to end a series.
A better example I would have given is imagine Demon Slayer ending with demons reappearing right before the ending.
@@lonecyborg4957 doubtful. There hasn’t been an exploration of the origin of quirks because their origin has never mattered. Humans mutated and quirks were born. Over time they became more common. That’s it. It’s not a part of the story really. Only factor related to their origin is the revelation that quirk complexity stresses the human genome and over time the mixing of quirks will lead to abilities that either are too powerful to control or that hurt the user and those around them. If the series ends with everyone losing their powers than magic would essentially need to be introduced in to the series as mass genetic alteration is not something any character can do.
