Fun Fact: The name "Attack on Titan" is a mistranslation that comes from the Japanese title's English subtitle. It's an easy mistake to make if the person who wrote that subtitle wasn't a native speaker, since the の("no") in 進撃の巨人 ("Shingeki no Kyojin") is actually a particle which (usually) notes ownership of or relation to one noun to another noun. So it very well could have been meant to mean "Attack on Titan" or "Attack of the Titans" or even "The Titan's Attack", but because Japanese is contextual in nature the reader could have assumed any combination of those meanings without a second thought. This is where things get mind blowing. Eren Yeager's titan form is called the attack titan. Would you like to guess how you would say "attack titan" in Japanese? ...that's right. Shingeki no Kyojin. This whole time the title hasn't been meant to represent an attack from the titans on humanity, but instead to represent the one human who discovered the power to fight back. That realization/twist is written so well into the story that it's near impossible to describe. It works because of the ambiguity of the Japanese language, and is therefore specific to it, but I just wanted to let you guys know that this whole time "Attack on Titan" has actually been called "The Attack Titan" which may just be the biggest bit of foreshadowing of them all.
When I knew nothing about this series other than the title, I assumed it was some kind of hard sci-fi series (attack on Titan, as in the moon of Saturn).
I think whoever translated it always meant it as Attack-on (adjective) Titan (noun), not “attack of the titans” (as this would be something more like “kyojin no shingeki” instead of the other way around; the particle in front of の owns the particle after it), but failed to find a better way of wording it due to being a japanese person lacking english skills instead of an english speaker lacking japanese skills. I definitely can see how english speakers would think it was a mistranslation of “attack of the titans” though.

I think Attack on Titan has many great messages, mostly delivered as cautionary tales. The consequences of racism, classism, nationalism, imperialism, historical revision, government propaganda, lack of education, political warfare, terrorism, cultism, guilt by association, sins of the father, etc. Even when the story and pacing feel a bit off at times, I think it deals with mature concepts and themes that feel timeless, impactful and relevant. It shows you the many types of forms that hatred and discrimination take, hoping that you won’t repeat the same mistakes that the characters of this world made. You can’t beat hatred and discrimination with more hatred and discrimination.
kind of disagree with your last statement. war is neccessary to make the opposite party re-consider their actions. And also, if eren didn't take actions, what about all those comrades that were killed by titans? All those years of oppression, discrimination. it's not like everyone is Mandela. attack on titan is not JUST a story about fighting titans, it's about humanity itself. Sure eldians can be the bigger man and sacrifice their lives for world peace just like what king fritz did. And it might seems noble and nice to the world, but who is to suffer for king fritz's decision ? His people. eren is the exact opposite of king fritz, he had enough of these "Noble actions ", and just being unapologetic evil. he doesn't care how the history will portray him in the future. Say what you want about the rest of it. I won’t try to defend it. But Eren’s character wasn’t destroyed just because of that outburst. A thing people seem to have forgotten is that Eren was not completely emotionless. For example, he looked sad after he defeated Reiner. He started laughing in despair when Sasha died, just like he did with Hannes. When he looked at Mikasa in the Paths, his eyes softened. He looked torn when he was about to say Mikasa was a slave. Then there was that whole chapter with Ramzi. To understand his outburst you need to look at his perspective. He’s about to die. He’s going to be remembered as a devil for all eternity. He’s never going to see any of his friends again. His outburst was less about being in love with Mikasa and more about him never seeing her or any of his friends again. And even he asks Armin not to tell Mikasa. His goal also didn’t change. He says that he was actually planning on wiping out the whole world, so he could rebuild it the way he wished for it to be. When he says ‘I don’t know why I wanted to do that’, he wasn’t referring to the rumbling, he was referring to the fact that he didn’t know why he’s always been so obsessed with freedom. Eren’s development wasn’t an act. The final chapter is very divisive and rushed, but it did not destroy Eren’s character.

Honestly as a casual watcher who´s not picking apart every minor detail in the animation n´ shit, I never really noticed anything in the show that made me think "wow that doesn´t look very good". Pretty much the only time I thought to myself that the CG looked weird was Bertholt´s colossal animation during their reveal fight. Also as a music guy the S4 intro is fucking spectacular 10/10.
Agreeing with the s4 op. All the explosions and soldiers marching scene has already heavily implied (to me) that this season is going to be a whole different genre. It did take a bit time for me to start liking the music, but after watching the opening animation along with the lyrics, I know that the op is just as good as its previous ones. There's foreshadowing in the lyrics and scenes, and I just love how they decided to draw the last scene of the op: eren's titan form on the right side of the screen running towards the left side. It's a play on cinematography foreshadowing that whatever the character is doing, it will end up badly(metaphorically or physically). Overall, the op gave off an ominous and dreadful feeling, and that's exactly what we should expect from s4. I can't think of any other way they could make a better op if they want viewers to delve seriously on the issue s4 wants to bring, thus for me, s4 op is as you said, spectacular 10/10.
Then you've got a bad eye. It is not that the animation is bad. Te real truth is that you never apreciatted how good wit studio treated aot and thats why you dont see any difference but after watching some scenes again and comparing you will see that wit studio was a 10 while mappa on aot is 7,the downgrade in s4 is still watchable but the art and animation in fights against titans is not there when it was before. So all it takes is apreciatte the story until 131 animated at least. After that it will lose the storytelling and I hope the animation will carry. Anyways,if the animation is better than before, the next 4 chapters of aot will surpass reiner and bertholdt transformation (122 animated)

I'm so glad he said that. Gabi's annoying as shit, but she is a fantastically written character, which is honestly the most important thing. With the kind of themes Attack on Titan has, a character like Gabi is almost necessary. She's a child (with a personality like Eren's, oh lord) who has been brainwashed and doesn't quite understand the impact of killing someone until she really fucking does. It seems obvious to us and I get why people hate her for what she did, but anyone would do what she would have done in her shoes. In a Literary critique’s perspective, this is indeed a masterpiece. If you analyze it closely, stripping off your prejudices, ships, and anticipation for many fanservice scenes, everything was well thought of. And that’s his first work ! Usually these types of stories are all well thought of even before publishing , they sit with you for years and you begin to find better things to add and things to take away from it . @@btdking1597 From what I know, before he could even publish the story, he has the complete plotline already drafted. But publishers are rejecting his work because his drawings are “sloppy”. I came to love his character. I was sad for a few days but I think that helped me prepare for this blasted ending hahahah
Not for me sadly. In terms of plot season 4 has been very unsatisfying so far. Eren's complete change of character doesn't actually feel developed at all. And Zeke's backstory was ridiculous, he's just crazy that's it and I feel no sympathy for him. Yes I always doubted why it is called Attack on Titan when the attack is caused BY the titans not entirely on them.

The last Levi vs Beast Titan fight (I think) was mostly hand drawn and it was definitely getting close to the original fight quality from WIT. It’s definitely an episode full of really, really high quality showing what Mappa is capable of when given time. The second part is coming out basically in a year, and there is a LOT of fighting in the final part of the manga, so it’s hopefully gonna be a feast for the eyes

@@sora2541 well the ending was def shit but s4 wasnt lol. and yes the paths are still to be animated
I won't lie, Attack on Titan Sunday was the best thing to happen since corona started. Got real blasted, jammed out to that banger opening and then stayed glued to the screen, reliably, every week.

You’re in denial if you say you haven’t noticed the CGI.

You see how genius Isayama is, because even after his work ended, we still talk about it. And that is one great technique that writers should learn from. HE LITERALLY IMMORTALIZED HIS WORK! I swear I’m gonna critique this and submit it to my Grad school.
And that’s his first work ! Usually these types of stories are all well thought of even before publishing , they sit with you for years and you begin to find better things to add and things to take away from it . I wonder if it’s the same with isayama , it rare for a story to make complete sense when the writer is forced to publish it each week before thinking out all possible plot points
@@btdking1597 From what I know, before he could even publish the story, he has the complete plotline already drafted. But publishers are rejecting his work because his drawings are “sloppy”. So, yeah it’s more likely a masterpiece 10 years in the making. I don’t understand people hating on the ending. Isayama has already intended for Eren to die from the beginning. And it is foreshadowed multiple times in the story.
Though, I have to admit, before the manga ended I was having a hard time accepting that THAT woul be the ending because I really love Eren! I came to love his character. I was sad for a few days but I think that helped me prepare for this blasted ending hahahah
Not for me sadly. In terms of plot season 4 has been very unsatisfying so far. Zeke somehow getting the Scouts to even somewhat follow him from just a letter, *especially* Levi of all people, was ridiculous. Eren's complete change of character doesn't actually feel developed at all. And Zeke's backstory was ridiculous, he's just crazy that's it and I feel no sympathy for him. Maybe it was all done better in the manga and if so, this was bad execution for Part 1
@@Not-Andy-Here Sorry to hear that. But there are parts in the manga especially in the part 1 final season that wasn’t shown in the anime. Well, it does seemed weird how Eren changed into THAT guy. But this is another interesting take on “developing” your protagonist that we are not all used to. That’s why most didn’t buy it. Well, after all everyone’s have a say on the work. Literature, actually, once published, is no longer the exclusive property of the author, but is a public property already. People can participate with the discourse that the author started in his head.
Game Of Thrones was heavily talked about after its ending too, talked about how trash the ending was.
Now look at how dead and forgotten it is.
