@@SplitteR2B@ sorry to disappoint you, dude! One couple had a 'long run' by dividing Serbia in 4 phases; Voyvodina, BG, East Serbia and then West Serbia. They were purposely avoiding larger cities and focusing on wilderness and other 'hidden gems' - 80% of which I've never seen myself and I'm from there. Eventually they were in Greece and then Turkey... But while they were in Serbia I thought they'll never leave! It was about 2 yrs ago.

Our neighbors are crazy ,in good way i mean , hard party people, like us , but i think all Balkan countries are like this , they party like there is no tomorrow! it's something contagious , a "Balkan DNA"

Serbia looks great ! This festival reminds me the "marchinhas carnaval" here in Brazil. I hope some time in my life I could visit Serbia and go to some of this festivals. The person looks very friendly !
Its fermented cabbage, its only cabbage, salt, water and time. Cooked with smoked bacon and meat. It melts in your mouth, the sourness of the cabbage gives it a specific taste, similar to sarma. That is one of my favorite dishes. You can wash out some of the sourness out of the cabbage with water before preparing the dish. I like it more sour. We also have pickled cabbage its called turšija, mix of pickled cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, peppers, green tomatoes. Also we have fresh cabbage with oil and vinegar, it is usually served with roasted pig (pečenje) and grilled meat (pljeskavica, ćevapi...). Serbs actually eat a lot of cabbage.
Good job on exploring Serbia, you did it better than I did for my whole life living here. You also felt how real Serbian parties look like in Guča and Drina regata which are held without some bigger modernizations and influence of the west. You could really feel what real Serbs are and you could only get it in smaller places with such a traditional program. You will not be able to get something like that in bigger cities.. Good job

There's a traditional Romanian song, played even at weddings, it's called sarba. Wait, that means "the Serbian [song]" :) This is the flavour of this whole region, the melting pot and, hopefully, the friendship between people dancing and listening to music and having fun with a beer!
A few years ago I watched animated japanese movie by Ghibli called ''Only yesterday'' and when I heard the music I just knew that it had nothing to with Japan and all to do with some Balkan country. And I was right! I heard two songs by Gheorghe Zamfir called ''Cântec de Nunta'' and ''Frunzuliță Lemn Adus''. I fell in love with them, they're so beautiful and nostalgic! Svadbarski kupus is a type of serbian long food. Its fermented cabbage with smoked bacon and fatty meat with bones like ribs, cooked with spices at low temperature for a very long time (more than 5 hours). Its called wedding cabbage because its obligatory dish at all traditional Serbian weddings that are organized in autumn when is the fermented cabbage season. Cheers
I see a lot of people wearing hat that similar to garrison cap. In my country, only our military and the Boy Scout have garrison cap as part of their uniforms. After googling, it is Šajkača. It's a Serbian national cap. I've learned something new today.

This was one of the biggest surprises with those "Trumpeters" at Gucha Festival parading down the main street during the competition. Growing up in Serbian province of Voyvodians I've seen'en and heard'em on various media, however, seeing them in person is 1,000 X better - and I'm not exaggerating. In those days I was into Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Doors, Rolling Stones, Uriah Heep, etc etc - but those "Trumpeters" blew me away I swear to God! There is no way of describing the experience - you just need to see'em in person! And the FOOD was OMG!!!

One important thing is that in Serbia we eat bread with everything. One little secret about wedding cabbage and a couple of other dishes, that when you cook them in huge pots it is much tastier than in smaller pots.
we actually eat a lot of cabbage 😂 fermented cabbage dishes: podvarak, sarma, wedding cabbage. we use a variety of meats in those recipes. with the grill we prepare grated cabbage with vinegar. in winter, we put cabbage, turnips, green tomatoes, peppers and cauliflower in a barrel, with vinegar. separately ferment the barrel with cabbage
Some 20 years ago, I was working for company that had businesses relations with some South Korean engineering company and we had a delegation from Korea to come and help us with some industrial equipment that they sell to us. When they came to Serbia we take them to eat sarma and svadbarski kupus ( wedding cabbage ) and they honestly ask us are we stole those dishes from them, cause it reminded them on Saam and kimchi cabbage. We didn’t know what they are talking about, cause in those days we didn’t know much about Korean culture, customs or cuisine, but it was interesting to us to hear that there is something similar in another part of world. BTW wedding cabbage is recipe to not over drink with Rakia, cause if alcohol start kicking too hard while partying, take a stop, eat some cabbage and meat and soon you are ready to party more 😉

I always thought mexican and balkan culture had lots of similarities. We both have a revolutionary past, are very family oriented, are fairly religious but at the same time not that religious in practice, like brass bands, have our own alcohol that we make and drink and like to party..
No, more like Hindu feasts in India without the roasted 🍖 and adorned divinities😆 But the gigantic sculptures are there 😂. I think it’s actually the biggest Balkan Roma festival with some other traditional Serb music. But, to be fair gypsy music is fully integrated into Serbian culture and tradition. While the gypsy music in Spain has its origins in Arabic music, the Serbian and Romanian sounds like it hails from Asia and Eastern Europe. It’s different.

Guca is the second largest volkfest in Europe after Oktoberfest in Munich...
Cabbage is a huge staple in Serbia. They eat it fermented, cooked, raw and in the villages they drink Cabbage juice.

I always thought mexican and balkan culture had lots of similarities. We both have a revolutionary past, are very family oriented, are fairly religious but at the same time not that religious in practice, like brass bands, have our own alcohol that we make and drink and like to party..

No, more like Hindu feasts in India without the roasted 🍖 and adorned divinities😆 But the gigantic sculptures are there 😂. I think it’s actually the biggest Balkan Roma festival with some other traditional Serb music. But, to be fair gypsy music is fully integrated into Serbian culture and tradition. While the gypsy music in Spain has its origins in Arabic music, the Serbian and Romanian sounds like it hails from Asia and Eastern Europe. It’s different.
