No country beats Serbia when it comes to food quality, that´s just a simple fact. I´m born in Belgrade but lived my whole life in Sweden and now in Denmark, last 10 years. Even a low level restaurant in Serbia still has better food than a medium level good restaurant in Scandinavia. Had a friend with me to Belgrade last year, who has traveled from Jamaica to Tokyo, to Mongolia and so on..... long list. He rated the food in Serbia as no 1. We even bought some fast food from a local good place where we lived, BBQ made right there, no frozen stuff, grilled on a charcoal grill. My friend honestly said: - but this is better than food in a lot of top restaurants in Sweden. I told him, -what can I say, this is the way it is down here. People don´t just put whatever crap in their mouths just to fill the belly. You can´t sell "frozen warm water" to people here. That´s just the way it is. I on the other hand understand some people, especially here in Scandinavia, where they think some tasteless food is super quality. But I understand why, If you have nothing to compare with, then of course a mediocre pizza leftover will feel as quality food..... On the other hand, if you have tasted the real stuff, you never go back to low quality food. By the way, really good channel you have guys, good quality filming, good sound, you can without problem hear everything, but still down to earth, not over the top static documentary style. I´m saying that as pro photographer...Keep it simple but good, as you do it. A winning concept.
You are so right , and what do you consider the right way to do the plejskavice , probably spelled wrong , some recipes say with garlic some onions some both .

Serbian food in general is based around meats, cheeses, bread and paprika/bell peppers. It doesn't use a lot of sauces, dips or exotic fruits and veggies (mostly peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, lettuce, onions, carrots, potatoes and garlic with some others like cauliflower, zucchini, eggplant etc mixed in). The spices are usually there to accentuate the flavors of the dish itself, not to be the whole flavor of the food.
American and Canadian visitors often find themselves surprised by the flavors of Serbian food. Our emphasis on using GMO-free ingredients, particularly in our fruits and vegetables, helps maintain their original and authentic tastes. Despite some dishes appearing a bit greasy, our food remains considerably healthier than many options found abroad. I extend an invitation to everyone to experience this wholesome fare by spending a few months with us. Upon returning to the US, Canada, or Central and Latin America, I'm confident that a significant number of you may encounter digestive discomfort due to the differences in food quality.

First, I totally agree with the @scandmaster comments below - saved me time to write. 😁 This is what you get when you still have many small agricultural producers who can focus on quality in fruit, vegetables and meat. Just a small correction - that wasn't "stuffed chicken" that you were eating. It is actually pork back meat (pork loin), beaten to thin pieces and than stuffed/rolled with cheese and pieces of smoked pork neck meat. :) They're called "kiflice" (rolls) or "paketići od mesa" (meat pockets). It really is that tender and juicy, ant that is a true masterpiece since it is very easy to make pork loin too dry. Mrak is definetely the best grilled meat restaurant in Serbia. No doubt about it. :)
Serbian cheese - there are many kinds 🙂 That 'bread salad' is probably with gravy from roast. The desert is 'koh semolina'. There are videos about koh.
My son will be going to Nis in September and through the Balkans. We are from Toronto and watch your videos. I have mapped getting to this restaurant from where he will stay! They must love you as much as you love their food :)
During 1st World War Serbian army was retreating over Albania and they had limited food so they eat old bread grilled with grease and spicy paprika. This is called Albanian salad in Nis (Albanska salata). You ate same but with cheese added, sometimes called extra Albanska salata.
The salad is called Moravska salata, and it is not only tomato salad, it contains green or red grilled paprika, and that is where all the flavours are from. Also olive oil and spices. The tomato itself is organic, but this species of tomato is not that good for this salad. The one thay should use is called volovo srce or OX heart, and it is the best possible tomato for this salad, or any sallad :).

Serbia does grilled meat better, except for lamb chops, which you will find in Greek restaurants, but not in Serbia. Greeks have superb sea food which is unavailable to us in Serbia and Serbians eat a lot of Central European type food like goulash, sauerkraut and strudel, which you do not get in Greece. Brine cheese of the feta type is ubiquitous and roast lamb is excellent both in Serbia and in Greece. Typically in Serbia you get roast suckling pig and this is not common in Greece. We eat similar kinds of sweets like baklava and other stuff made with filopastry and drenched in sweet syrup, also the savoury stuff made from filo that you buy at bakeries is virtually the same. The flavour profiles are very similar and the quality of ingredients is also very high. Stuffed vegetables, mousaka style dishes and very light stews with plenty of onions, green peppers and tomatos with beef and lamb meat are also common in both countries. In Serbia, we do not use cinnamon in savoury foods. Instead, we use a lot of Hungarian style sweet and hot paprika. Traditional Serbian use of spices would come down to paprika, black pepper, and bay leaf and for herbs fresh cellery leaf and flatleaf parsley. There is this attitude in Serbia that if a lot of spices are used, the core ingredients are not fresh or of the best quality, especially the meat.
Even onions taste better in Serbia than in Europe =) Everything tastes better, why so I have no clue - maybe its the soil? Problem after visiting and eating in Serbia is that when you come home you will notice that everything is kind of tasteless and bland. Love you and continue what you do! Cheers!
Still dreaming about the food from Kafana Mrak😋 For those planning to visit, please note they are on holiday until Sept 4!

You actually have to walk back to Belgrade to burn all the calories! I'm watching you from LA but I wish I was there with you - I'm hoping this Fall I'll be sitting at the same table?!?
Just don't add extra salt, and maybe skip bread if possible, and all those calories won't be bad for you at all, as it's high quality and mostly organic food. Eating this amount of calories from McDonald's deep fried processed gmo crap WILL kill you, though :) This - this is fine :)
I dont think Leskovac will blow you away like this place... Its a best place for fast food bbq, but for restaurants, i think you will end up liking this one better.
This is the food my brothers.. Burgers? Nice but not 😂 thank you for visiting Serbia, you are welcome in evry time.. Thank you soo much
YES YES YES! MRAK IS MY FAVORITE BARBECUE SPOT IN SERBIA!
Naj bolji roštinji svijeta SRBIJA ...definitivno.. Meso+kajmak+sir+lepinje+hljeb+ papričiće grilovane+još suha tucana sudžuk paprika...ŠOPSKA SALATA....😂😂😂😂 DEFINITIVNO NEMA BOLJE I UKUSNIJE...DEFINITIVNO NAJBOLJI OD SVIH....OGLADNIM INSTANT .....
You need to try "DOMACA SARMA (sa pavlakom)" eating that is enjoying life !
So good! ❤❤❤
Hmmmm, you show always the good food, I am hungry now🤩🤩🤩 And I loooove the BBQ paprika (vegetable can be any like zucchini).
Super good video as usual , I was there last year in kafana mrak and other restaurants in Nis that were super good one of them was Kod Brke in jelasnica, Ognjiste but Kafana Mrak is definitely super good, their aged dunja rakija is amazing or aged sljivovica stara pesma , I think I'm going to Nis very soon.
Don’t go to Leskovac after Nis! big mistake my friends. Noone can stand that much delicasy .😂😅😂 Glad that you came back to Serbia!☺️
Nice i was eating when watched the video 😋 Big kisses sweets 😘
Serbian cheese - there are many kinds 🙂
That 'bread salad' is probably with gravy from roast.
The desert is 'koh semolina'. There are videos about koh.
My son will be going to Nis in September and through the Balkans. We are from Toronto and watch your videos. I have mapped getting to this restaurant from where he will stay! They must love you as much as you love their food :)
Ivana, Serbia love you soooo much 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Whole of Serbia has great food but Nish/Southern Serbia yo man they do food on a godlike level down there dude
Looks fantastic....and 7 stars! WHOA!!
During 1st World War Serbian army was retreating over Albania and they had limited food so they eat old bread grilled with grease and spicy paprika. This is called Albanian salad in Nis (Albanska salata). You ate same but with cheese added, sometimes called extra Albanska salata.
Looks so yummiiiiii ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Next year I will rent an apartment in Serbia for one month during summer..
Tomato salad is so good because it's real tomato, not the plastic sh..
It's very nice you like our food that much 😘
Tri Lece by far best desert ever created for me
visit the best restaurant in Nis is STNO PODRUM BRKA in the village of Jelašnica near Niska banja.......the food and service is phenomenal....
Moravska salad (tomato):
with baked peppers,
leek, garlic
oil, vinegar, salt
parsley on top or other herbs to your likings
ohohohOHOHOHO! Niš VS Leskovac showdown, idemo meraklije!
Bro.. I'm salivating here~!!! 🤤
tomato salad is goood, because tomatoes are domesticand really, really good taste. greeteng from Serbia !
Daaaaamn, looking good bro
The salad is called Moravska salata, and it is not only tomato salad, it contains green or red grilled paprika, and that is where all the flavours are from. Also olive oil and spices. The tomato itself is organic, but this species of tomato is not that good for this salad. The one thay should use is called volovo srce or OX heart, and it is the best possible tomato for this salad, or any sallad :).
8:42 A tear left my eye.
idem u Niš ovih dana da jedem, obavezno!
ovo izgleda preukusno!
Better than Brazilian BBQ??😅 But man, you are making me hungry…the steak looks delicious👍
Yes. Far better. And the same is true for all over balkans. The meat tastes 10x better than anything in America.
@@derbigpr500 how is that? this looks very gourmet to me like egg, cheese everywhere?? And where is the BBQ flagship, the beef? i saw a lot of pork, salsicha, chicken... I don't even try these types of meat on a BBQ from Brazil, this is eaten at home... in Brazil you may have idk, 20 different cuts of beef? haha u are such a delusional..
If you had the chance while in Southern Serbia, I highly recommend Vlasotince for some incredible bbq food, also you wanna try some amazing food go to Staklenik in Vranje, that place had the best goulash type of dish I ever tried. The south Serbian cuisines are just top notch and nothing will ever taste the same again after trying it there!
The doggy bag will taste so good in the morning and a great way to have another full meal , those border guards did you a big favour really, I was checking the apts just nearby and the accommodation is really good. I learned from my friend they do good day trips from Sofia to Nis . I did a trip to Romania last week which was great but I prefer BG Macedonia and Serbia
🙌🙌😎
I know Serbian Food very, very well.
one thing you will find in serbia we do not pump our cows & pigs & animals with all kinds of crap like NA does!
You should try Kafana in Nis Dva Jarana, Mali Podrum (lamb burger) and Milin Izvor and in Kraljevo go to Fijaker and order Karadjordjeva Snicla and also try their pizza you will be suprised. For Burek go to Slepčević - Ruma
Can you compare maybe please Greek and Serbian food a bit? Which one do you prefer and why? I love Greek food, but have never tried Serbian
Cheers!
