@OceanConservationNamibia yes and no..a sad thing that so many seals have become tangled in the world of commercial and recreational fishing..and no..because you and your team do whatever to see the seals are freed from the trash left by those who are oblivious to the pain and suffering of the seals caught up in it..

@Natalija2023 That is crazy. The fishing vessels shouldn't have to donate to save these animals, they should keep their trash on board and dispose of it properly on shore. To stop the fishing vessels from dumping their trash, we can stop them from going out in the first place. Let's stop eating any kind of seafood or kril 🌊🦭✂️🌍💙

I'm grateful for your determination and speed, not to mention your stamina!❤

    • @OceanConservationNamibia

    A really heart breaking record...
Baby seal number 27 (I think) was such in pain...
I know how hard work this is but I do think these longer videos are much more instructive than the short ones and gave you more strenght to show the plastic disaster we are creating and must solved.
It gave a really good idea of what you have to deal with:
    - so much entanglements,
    - working in team,
    - nets' number and size restrictions combined with their weight,
    - running full speed in sand in windy conditions, carrying heavy nets, being wet, through such huge distances, then stopping, sitting on your knees, focusing on not getting bite, then with almost no time off running again full speed,
    - HUGE amount of seals running towards you with the risk of being bitten,
    - post-production work to make those videos in order to sensibilise people again and again and again.
This is really such a dedicated and hard working job but also a heart breaking one.
Thus, once again, I want to say THANKS to OCN crew : Denzil, Antoine, Naudé, Katje and the new rescuers ! (also Wally, we miss you).

Although I'm glad for the seals who were rescued and for OCN's continued dedication, it's very disturbing to know their rescues are just a drop in the bucket. Our oceans and waterways are full of our trash, the animals caused none of it and yet they suffer. Imagine if the air was full of visible pieces of plastic that could randomly choke you. Would humans then think it important enough to act ? Make laws, enforce them, recycle and find safe plastic alternatives?
It saddens me that so many people who are in a position to make a big difference are unwilling to do so. 😢

I get tired and breathless just watching you. So glad the number of subscribers is up; viewership must be up, too. Videos like this one really point out the magnitude of the problem with plastics in our waters. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

So glad there was no serious gill nets or complicated hooks embedded in the mouth issues to deal with in this large collection of entanglements. All smooth captures. Great job guys and thanks for helping

We are unfortunately not solving the problem, but only treating the symptoms of the plastic crisis with our rescues. These videos aim to show the consequences of this pollution and create a change to tackle its roots - namely our addiction to single-use plastics, the lack of law enforcement at sea, and the shortcomings of the recycling industry.

It was a privilege to see a "mini doc" about a very busy day in the life of Team OCN. That said, it is also gut-wrenching to view the horrendous effects of our indiscriminate dumping.
