      This was the generation mustang that was out when I began to drive and so I wanted one of these so badly.

    My first TL01 was actually that kit. I bought it seconhand and it was purple.
    The body will actually split in the corners after hits, due the lack of foam bumpers just like you said. Mine was split on all corners.
    I think TL01 is one of my favorite chassis platformas as you can build so many different setup on those. Think I have 4 real Tamiya ones now and about 3 of the TL01 clone from HBX (Haiboxing).
    One my recent projects is a shortned TL01 (239wb) with M03 arms fitted to house the recent Tamiya Escort MkII rally body which has M chassis spec.
    Your project turned out great Ari!

    Ah, the good old TL-01. I've had a couple of those many years ago, good basic chassis with loads of potential. I remember adding the high speed gear set to one and boy did it make a difference!! And as for the front bumper, I just used a bit of foam pipe insulation and cable tied it to the plastic front bumper, worked liked a charm!. Excellent video, look forward to the next one!!

    I think it turned out beautiful, the TL-01 is one of my all-time favorite chassis. Great video!

    Love this chassis. Basic, cheap and indestructible. Got all my mates who weren’t into the hobby that much to buy one years ago. We still race them at my place all these years later. Only mods were bearings and esc to replace the mechanical original. I think your body looks better the way it turned out

    I worked at the Ford dealership in 95,96, I remember when the mystic cobras came out. Not the best mustangs ever, but that was my dream car back than.

    Had three TL01s and they have hold up strong. Great basher shassis. Only thing is the agressive stearing with the plastic tierods. I swaped those out with adjustable ones Tamiya 53300. Then the cornering got better.

    Yeah I made the same mistake when I had my car I should have bought some cvas for it. I used a 15 turn brush motor on it and it did 27 mph.

    Oil shocks & tires for sure together with making a light center driveshaft & the rear toe in parts you mentioned should make a good difference in making the car consistent in handling.
    a 23t motor should make it run pretty well speed wise as well.
    Also do run a strip of tape down the chassis halves on the underside, help's stop grit from getting into the chassis via there as the chassis doesn't seal completely.

    • @RCRetro
      @RCRetro  3 года назад

      Thanks for the tip with the tape. Good to know. Thanks again.

    Nice looking mustang! Tamiya did a hop up option for the tl01/m03 chassis which were different toe in rear hubs though they were plastic or reinforced, I can’t recall , also they did tl01la which was a long wishbone edition sometimes you can find the parts on eBay, food for thought ?

    Looks good to me😍👍 Grippier tires is the first thing I'd do.🤔 I would also make a foam block to fill that front void, maybe even silicone it to the body? Did Harry Dodds make a joke about you not being able to catch someone to rear end yet??? I'ma go read the rest of the comments to see...🤣

    There was a factory color bitd called mystic pearl that was purple and green! It was available on 96 up cobras IIRC. Also I think the back bumper is supposed to say cobra on it but for whatever reason tamiya moulded mustang on in like a regular gt had.

    • @RCRetro
      @RCRetro  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I had a friend who had this car in that color. Interesting fact about the bumper. Thanks for the knowledge.

    I would not worry about heat with a brushless system as long as you run the 19 tooth(steel) pinion with the speed gears. The buggy version has the speed gear built in so to speak with the large buggy tires( standard trans gears) and I have no trouble at all with heat.

    I was pretty disappointed when I first built mine TL01 chassis back in early 90’s. The only reason I got TL01 was because of the NSX GT body. Unfortunately the body didn’t turn out nicely.. I didn’t have much of experience with decal work back then. Now that I’m more of RC car collector.. I wouldn’t mind if Tamiya release the TL01 chassis with many beautiful body. I do own many of TT01 & TT02 chassis too because of outer shells.

    • @RCRetro
      @RCRetro  3 года назад +2

      Same here. I have a TT02 which I love and it has multiple wheels. No point in having the same chassis over and over again.

      Yes I know break fluid removes paint but I’m good with the color. Thanks for the tip. As for the motor, are you saying I’m going to melt the chassis with a silver can? My buddy run the TL-01B Baja champ with a 19 turn motor in it just fine for over a year. Maybe if I put a torque tuned in there or sport tuned with a high speed gear set it would be different??? I’ll error on the side of caution and add a heat sink then. Thanks for the comment and support.
