- The Hollywood area of Los Angeles is something people come from all over to visit. While Hollywood itself doesn't have a ton of things to do, there are a ton of awesome spots to check out in the surrounding area. Here are 18 of my favorites and let me know what I left off in the comments.

It's one of my favorite hometowns.
Gotta have lunch or dinner at Musso & Frank. If you can score an invite and packed evening wear in your suitcase, the Magic Castle is memorable. And, best of all, the people watching!
Great video, and I love your "California Through My Lense" light up sign!
Thanks for your tips! It’s so helpful and nice!
I really like the blend of more artsy places and the flea markets/ eateries/ that sort of thing that you've reviewed in your video. It's great for ESL students. Thanks!
THANK YOU. I,LL LOOK ALL THESE UP ON MY NEXT U.S TOUR.
Thanks Josh! I’m making notes for my next trip to Hollywood. 😍
Thank you so much about the Griffith Observatory advice. I went to visit on a Saturday on August around lunch time and there was no parking available, it was crazy busy.
Pink's looks good. All the shopping spots looked like fun. Thanks for sharing! 🍋🌽🌽🍌🍠🍠🍍🍄🌶🍊🌶🍅🍅🍊🌶🍅🍅🍊🌶🌶🍅🍇🍉🍉🍇🍐🍎🍎🍇🍐🍏🍏🍈🍓🍒🍎🍉🍑🍊🌶🌶🍅🍍🍍🍄🍠🍠🍋🍋🍋🌽🌽🌽🌽🍠🍠🍄🌶🌶🍅🍅🍇🍐🍏🍈🍈🍆🍆🍆🍒🍎🍊
Thanks Josh. Makes for a good trip planner. I did not know there was so much to do in Hollywood itself.
I love this video so much I keep re-watching it! Josh, where can I find your LA food recommendations video?
I grew up in Hollywood since 1957 what a difference today, went to Hollywood high school ,what happened to the good old Hollywood, I spend 10 months out of the year in Thailand and Vietnam what a beautiful place and great beaches and friendly people 👍👍😎that’s why I started a channel to share my travels thanks for sharing your views
During the early 70's I used to go to the Hollywood area to check out the many shops just have not made the Time to come the closet I was there was to check out the Glendale Mall
the racist one??
Great video!!!! Very informative and nice narrating! Thank you! Totally my style of sightseeing (a bit of this a bit of that) super helpful! Visiting this summer xx
Interested people are interesting. Thank you so much! I lived in the area and these are great suggestions.
Thanks very much for all your inside tips!!! California is so Beautiful and very interesting 😍
No problem, thanks for watching the video!
Another great video! Thanks for the recommendations. Will definitely check these out.
No problem, thanks for watching. If you haven't been to Griffith Observatory that is one of my favorites for sure.
Your list is approved. One added bonus, if you're visiting Paramount - right across the street (Melrose Ave) is Raleigh Studios. You can also visit this working studio lot and have a coffee, breakfast or lunch at their cafe it's open to the public M-F, 8 AM to 3:30 PM. Just enter the Bronson gate and tell them you want to go to the cafe, it's that easy. There's no charge to enter. And there's usually plenty of parking on the side streets there or if you're already parked for the Paramount tour. There isn't a tour but you'll see crews working on the lot as you stroll to the cafe. The Cafe was originally an old set. The lot's even older than Paramount.
One place I would recommend is Barnsdall Art Park and Hollyhock House. It is a small hill with a great view. Atop are several buildings used for art purposes like display or classes. Hollyhock House is one of most unique buildings of its kind. I often come here to sit on the grass and view. I came here when the space shuttle piggybacked and flew over/passed by the Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory.
Canter’s Deli is my favorite place to eat in Hollywood! It’s on Fairfax!
The Getty museum is a must also , great exhibits and awesome views and it’s free .
Your videos are so amazing and straight to the point. Ive gained so much inspiration for my upcoming trips. Keep up the good work! New sub

I’m from Australia and did LA for the first time last October - I’m having withdrawals a d your channel is helping me get by! I’m so stoked I checked out Amoeba before it closed down for the relocation!!
Great Video, glad you put the Hollywood Museum so high, has to be the most underrated attraction in Hollywood. Great exhibits and included on the Go LA Card.
Robert Chorley agreed, people often go to Ripleys and wax museum. Both are fun but the Hollywood museum has all of the film stuff that people come to Hollywood to see
Thanks for the video! Super helpful. :)
You've helped build my LA list in Google maps!
Love this. Perfect for planning our LA vacation. We always go to Amoeba Records in Hollywood. Just discovered your channel and subscribed :)
Just discovered your channel (recommended by RUclips). Love it. I was born in Cali, and haven't been back in years. In any case, you have a new subscriber!

Did you make that video on food in Los Angeles? That would be cool. Your other videos are very informative.

Thank you so much for these recommendations! I've been wanting to come to LA for years now and I *think* (I hope!) summer 2020 will be my year! I hope to do all your recs, especially 1-2 studio tours (my dream!) and Hollywood Forever to pay my respects. We'll see if I can get out of the country to visit, I'm using your channel as my main guide to do the PCH between SanFran and LA, 10 day tour!
Erin H so awesome, thanks for subscribing and for checking out my content! I hope you are able to make it to Cali in 2020, it’s a beautiful place!
Oh you'll enjoy that trip up the PCH, that's a fun adventure. And CTML has explored some places along the way up the coast.
Erin H don’t go in the summer trust me
Hollywood isnt what you think.
2020 ain't yo year
Solid recommendations 🍺😀
YOU CHANNEL IS SO UNDERRATED
Look at the SMOG!
There is quite a lot it usually gets stuck because of the big mountains
Amazing clips. Thank you for this clip and LA downtown clip. God bless.
You can say that again
Very cool and informative
Thanks for watching!
Hermosa Ciudad.
Amazing video 👌
Nice video, lots to do. I have worked in that area, so I understand the parking situation.
Yea, parking is not great in Los Angeles most of the time haha
Awesome! 👌🏼
I've only been to
walk of fame
tcl Chinese theatre
griffith observatory
Hollywood Sign (no hike tho)
so far.. so many places left on my list! I love this city so much :)
Thank u for this
Dude! Awesome video! Used to hang out on sunset blvd to see shows. Great Hollywood video. Did I see some Guisados tacos 🌮 in there. One of my favorite places when I’m in LA. Usually the Echo park or Boyle Heights location for me. Can’t wait to see what’s next homie.
Oh man, Guisados is so good right? I love going there any chance I can get but it has certainly been too long!
I love the chorizo and fish tacos there.
@@californiathroughmylens Am curious where your food stops will take you.
Wonderful video! My family and I'll be in LA again this summer - we love to check out the best places for pizza, burgers, doughnuts and food trucks... I look forward to your recommendations :)
Richard G Lewis pizza, burgers and doughnuts. Sounds like the perfect day!
I love your videos.💯👌🏻
The video is so perfect
It would be great if you showed where we can park to Uber, because navigating the streets and highways in Los Angeles is crazy.
What time is this video was made in 2017 but I am watching in 2024
Nice Video📸
really good
Love Amoeba!
yeahyeah_maria definitely
Good stuff :)
Than you so very much
Hollywood, California is Home 🎹💋🧡
Check out Groundworks Coffee across from Amoeba. Amazing coffee ( recommend Angel City Blend) and great people.
One of my favorite things to to in West Hollywood was see a concert at the House of Blues when it was still opened on Sunset Blvd. Actually, my first concert was there! Still so sad they permanently closed it.
Msalazar2011 another great spot. I went years ago but I didn’t know it was closed now
Thanks for all recommendations but Pink's
Do you have a recommendation for a good viewpoint in the late eveneings? We visited L.A. last easter and tried to visit Griffith Observatory but it was closed really early. From there wie tried to find another nice viewpoint with a great overlook at all the city lights by night but we had no success. The view from Hollywood Bowl seems exactly the viewpoint we are searching for but as you said it also is closing realy early. So I hope that you can recommend another option cause we will be there again by the end of october :-) Thanks in advance and thanks for your nice and informative content!
in before 1mill views ;) nice video.
haha I think it will be a long time for that :)
Time Travel Mart is in Echo Park though. It's closer to downtown that it is to Hollywood. LOL
I live in Hollywood.. but i haven’t visit every place you covered 🙊
Awesome, more to see! What's your favorite spot?
Not Kurva I'm not you 🤣😁 .
@@californiathroughmylens I've not been to 1 spot there, the little store place you mentioned, with the afterschool programs.
Me neither
right! same!
Cool
Love your videos!!! Do you recommend to rent a car in los angeles? Not sure where to stay also, any recommendations? I am going soon with my husband and 2 little ones. Thank you sooo much
ASMR with Sofia take ride shares and public transportation LA has the worst traffic in the nation. Also parking cost can make it pricy
Have not been to the Hollywood area in a few years I used to check out a lot of record shop but will many record shops not around anymore I stopped coming
Great Info I think you should ( could have) menti0ned the Peterson auto Museum--for the Building and Cars? ( LACMA is cool what about the Disney concert hall & Broad Art Museum-) ?? maybe next time--keep up the great work and thanks
Tony Coby thanks for watching, Peterson’s is a great choice! I put the Broad and concert hall in my Downtown LA video if you want to check that one out as well
Yesss 😁
Our home 😁
Sunday's on the corner of Hollywood and La Brea
I’ll be travelling to Hollywood solo. Is it safe to do these recommendations by yourself? Any of these places to avoid?
Just remember the Paramount studios used to be the Desilu Studios. I guess you can guess I'm pretty old!
U miss the broad museum
The city hall free observatory & grand park
Vista hermosa Park
The Bradbury building inform of the grand central market !
Those are all downtown -- this is a Hollywood video.
Would appreciate list in description box :D Please and Thank you.
I do need to update that. You can see all of the items here as well though californiathroughmylens.com/things-to-do-in-hollywood
Whats the music in the background that starts at 3:55?
I would like to recommend 2 places to tour. The Medieval Torture Museum and the Museum of Death
RIP Amoeba 🙏🏽 I work at the skate shop by it
You forgot to mention yamashiro's the Japanese restaurant on the hill you can walk around and on the side of the mountain
yamashiro’s is so beautiful 😍
Ever done one on the Grand Canyon?
Yes, do one on the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim!
I miss the Virgin and towers records shops
How much does it cost to stay there for a week there
How does the whiskey, or the rainbow not come up?
Guess you figured out there are no dinosaur bones in the La Brea Tar Pits -- the finds are from 10 to 20 thousand years ago, featuring extinct mammals like Saber Tooth Cat, Mammoths, Giant Sloths, Dire Wolves, etc. It is the most unique site for mass fossils anywhere in the world. It is a must see.
For the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I personally like Hollywood & Vine Metro Station... if only because some of my biggest favorites are honored right in front of the station: Jennifer Aniston, Ellen DeGeneres, Kate Winslet, and Mariah Carey.
Rachel So that’s a good call! Lots of stars there for sure
Rachel So hello I used to walk home from school along Hollywood blvd and memorized all stars/names in 1976 , still a resident but spend time in Vietnam and Thailand and just started a new RUclips channel Robert Mac in Asia to share free never ask for Donations, just me and wife trying to show the other side of the world fun sun beaches mountains then pattaya Thailand
It would have been nice if you would included prices!!!
Wonderful video! However, LACMA, La Brea Tar Pits, and Melrose Trading posts aren’t really in Hollywood. Also, there are bones at the tar pits, just not any dinosaur bones.
Time stamp of the locations?
AMOEBA land have been sold?
Universal City Walk/Universal Studios is always a fun place to go in Hollywood.
