Yellow Productions, if Santa Monica, Beverly hills and all them other smaller cities are independent, why do people claim them to be LA when technically it's not?
true but if you want to do something ,and have a gps it is easy to get around ",im from Norway around 5 mill people all in al"l ,but to eat at Canters Deli as my first day as driver in LA was real smooth,it is a lot of cars but people over there are way more calm than in EU , best place i ever been , it even beats Vegas :)
I’m a L.A. native and everything he said is so true. Especially #10. Everyone that comes to visit LA thinks its going to be high-end, gold plated roads and man, they are so disappointed. Especially if you go to downtown, its really ghetto. We have one of the highest homeless populations believe it or not.
lauren kim I avoided going to LA for years because I was afraid it would be all hood and really dangerous. I figured that was probably what the majority of the city would be. I ended up going to the LA last spring for the first time. It was much nicer than I thought. So much so I'll be moving there from Northern California in summer 2018.
L.A. Native here as well really the issue is all the damn people that come from the Midwest wanting to be actors and shit, as we like to call them transplants.
Want a better chance of catching stars/celebrities? You're more likely to run into them eating lunch or grabbing coffee in Studio City, Calabasas, or Woodland Hills.
If you want to see lots of stars won’t the desert be the best place? I’m from a very bright country and would love to see stars at night. Is it safe to just go out someplace and watch stars? We visited Florida last year but I was too chicken to stop the car at night somewhere in the Everglades because of the animals and sketchy pickups driving around.
I used Uber and the Metro instead of renting a car, which was much less expensive than renting a car, and paying for parking. That also gives you the opportunity to do a little site seeing before you arrive at your destination.
how is the public transportation, is it hard to navigate? I am planning on going alone and i am nervous, would prefer not to change multiple buses and getting lost :(
Skyee Not really hard, I would suggest using Google maps to navigate from there, sometimes the buses are crowded and unfortunately just like the guy said at the video the metro train doesn't take you to many places really. Its mostly buses what make up the public transportation.
I want to spend atleast 1 week in LA, see all the major tourist spots including disneyland and maybe a concert and lots of shopping... I will try to see what spots are connected by the metro and easy bus routes, if majority of them are metro connected, i will be so happy xD I just feel like buses are going to be difficult for me as the timings are not good and homeless people :(
I used to think LA traffic was the worst, I mean the 405, 110, 5, 10 and so on, then I went to the Philippines and that traffic is horrible, I mean downright bad. It took me over 4 hours to go 12 miles to the airport and I left at 3:00am. LA traffic is not so bad anymore. Sure we have 6 lanes and a carpool lane or two, but go visit other countries and see their crappy traffic.
As a San Diego native, I always hated coming up here to Los Angeles. Now I find myself living in the LA area and it is an area filled with so much to do/explore and with more depth than I ever thought. Most of the thing you touched on were good and helpful for tourist. When I have friends in town and they want to visit Hollywood and Highland, I tell them it sucks and then take them to the Fairfax Dist. Farmers Market/Grove. A much better experience and you DO see stars there from time to time. Parking sucks anywhere in LA, but that is part of the territory. One of my favorite places and it isn't something that most tourist think about visiting is the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Head over to Spokes Cafe on the LA river, rent a bike for an hour and ride the bike path, then visit Carrolwood, the home of Walt Disney's red barn in Griffith Park. The last thing about Mexican food and King Taco....there is way better Mexican food out there in Los Angeles !
As an L.A. native, I'd like to add that if you're coming to the beach, be prepared for times of heavy, damp, chilly fog. We used to call it "June Gloom" but last year we had it for about 9 more months! I live a mile from Redondo Beach and it usually doesn't burn off until 11 am and then will return in the late afternoon. Also El Burrito, Jr! Best Mexican food, ever!
You can find authentic food from all over the world in L.A. We have amazing Korean; Phillipino; Thai; Vietnamese; Chinese; Japanese; Lebanese; Ethiopian; Peruvian; Cuban; Salvadorian; Indian; Russian... and some of the most amazing Mexican food you can have outside of Mexico. The only problem is that a lot of these food places are located in areas that most tourists are being warned against. Do your research, find a cuisine you'd like to enjoy, and take a risk in an area you wouldn't normally go to. You'll expand your horizons, and find that some of these areas are not as scary as they're being portrayed.
When people say LA they mean anything in Los Angeles County. And yes you need a car.. Santa Barbara and Orange county are also amazing places to visit to truly appreciate the sol cal vibe.
Talking about temps. December-March is our rainy season and there have been years where it rained almost everyday for a month or two. Also from December-February overnight temperatures can dip from the high 20s-low 30s Fahrenheit (basically freezing temps; 0 deg Celsius) in the city basin and lower at higher elevations (0 deg-low 20s Fahrenheit; mountains nearby usually get a few inches to a few feet of snowfall--and the ski resorts open). Fall and Spring are pleasant mostly but it still cools at night (light sweater and pants are good). Summer is the only time when shorts and flip flops are good 24/7.
I’m an LA native and here’s a list of places to avoid: Other than a meal at historic Musso and Franks steer clear of the entire Hollywood and Highland area. It’s a mess and filled with tourists. The Chinese theater is no big deal either.... remember Hollywood is no longer glamorous and hasn’t been since the 1950s Venice beach is a dump. I live 15 minutes away and go once every few years if I have no choice. Head towards Malibu instead You can check out the valley if you want but I sure as hell wouldn’t waste any vacation time out there. If you have a rental car don’t attempt driving through downtown LA because it’s so confusing with one-way streets and construction. I wouldn’t even drive down there, take an Uber
no no. walked around hollywood and highland with my wife and kid, its worth an hour and the sidewalk star things are fun. just ignore the cartoon character guys. it was fine....venice beach is not a "dump". its a rapidly gentrifying area that still attracts all kinds of characters and some sketchy people, but again, no problems there with my family....Malibu? fine for a lunch and some beach time, but thats a rich persons town.
Like Igor, I'm also moving down there. Any chance we could talk on the phone for a bit so I could pick your brain about LA? I know no one from there and I'd like to know more about it.
This is the best LA travel guid for foreigners I've found on RUclips. A lot of talking, not as funny, but gives the most concrete and useful facts & info. Thank you!
Things to do in LA: Visit Venice Beach, Santa Monica Pier, the arts district is awesome for young adults, Hollywood, Griffith park, Fairfax district if you're into shopping, check out Guisados tacos, and head a little south to Orange county and experience Huntington Beach and Disneyland. Go to an LAFC soccer game when in season. Also Silverlake/echo park has a nice nightlife for young adults.
I've lived here since the 1960s. This is amusing and probably helpful. People from Orange County ("the OC") hate us but brag that they are from L.A. when they are traveling. Good video.
I’m from Canada, so when I went to L.A, Everyone was walking around with hoodies and pants, while I was walking around in a T-shirt and shorts cause I’m used to really cold weather lmao
Another tip: pay attention to the far left lane on the freeway. It randomly and suddenly turns into an express lane with barriers to prevent you from switching lanes. You'll be stuck and you'll get charged for using the lanes.youll have about 5 days to pay it online! They wanted to charge me nearly 300 bucks for waiting until the end of the month pay it
As an Angeleno I agree 100% with all your advice. The only thing I would add is that locals measure driving distances in time and not in miles. For example if someone asks? "How far is the Griffith Park Observatory?" Or "How far is Dodger Stadium?" You'll get a response like "If you take the 5 it's 40 minutes but if you take the 101 it's 20 minutes".
When you’re from Scotland and he said bring a jacket and long trousers but you find out the typical night temperature is 16 degrees Celsius. I’m going to be in shorts the whole time or I’m going to melt.
1. Malibu seafood ( it’s byob with ocean views) 2. Fuddruckers in Burbank best hidden gem when it comes to burgers! 3. Topanga canyon hiking trails the views and rock formations are amazing then eat at carnitas Michoacan Mexican food down the street ( shopping center at Larsen and topanga canyon) Thank me later! Btw I’m from the valley so this is just my section of LA.
He’s very accurate on everything he said. As a native Angelino I recommend visiting the Griffith Observatory from there you can see the entire Los Angeles, Hollywood sign and DTLA. Plus the Inside of the Observatory is very cool. As far as food, I highly recommend Al & Beans Mexican food in east L.A. not to far from DTLA. They have hands down the best Mexican burritos. Hope you enjoy our beautiful city :)
L.A. has so many awesome hole-in-the-wall restaurants of every kind, I wouldn’t waste any time here going to dress-up places. Going to the little places can also help get you out into different neighborhoods (because there are SO many neighborhoods), and then you’ll feel like you experienced more of the city.
Just got back from an LA vaca last week. I go about once a year for a few days. I should add a few things to these notes. As far as homeless people, I offered one guy with a dog a bottle of water and my "thank you" was a middle finger. I agree on the parking woes. Just about everywhere to park will cost you, and don't think you can get away without putting money in the meter. The $76 parking ticket I got near downtown while 100 feet away taking a few pics confirms. Hit it on the nail with the traffic, there is no point is getting upset at the traffic volume. Most of these highways were built 30+ years ago . and just cannot handle the amount of people. He should have reminded out of towners that LANE SPLITTING is legal here for motorcyclists, so they are not being assholes by passing between cars. I've seen plenty of videos of motorists merging to stop the riders or causing crashes. All restaurants will be packed. However, In & Out Burger is not the be all end all as so many claim, it's good, but I wouldn't go out of your way to eat at one. And, the biggest travel tip Chris here did not mention is the chaos that is LAX. If you have a rental car, all of the satellite locations are located a few miles away and are shuttle bus reachable. Add at least 30-45 mins of time for drop off or pick up of your rental. LAX comprises of many terminals, and the gridlock and drop off time for passengers should be noted. The only flight I have ever missed was out of LAX due to massive traffic trans-versing the city, then delays at security. Arrive at LEAST 3 hours early if you have a rental car to drop off.
Sounds like you know alot...where would you stay for a girls trip (mature women) wanted to stay on beach but see all the Hollywood stuff?? Maybe 2 different places??
The LA bus should scare you because it does not go anyehere. Ok, if it does, with minor exceptions, plan 3+, hours. I am year LA resident. I never drivr
Omg, you are legit! I am an LA native and you are right about everything. Downtown LA is great at night if you are interested in bar hopping. Korea Town is lit at night for clubbing/drinking and they have amazing restaurants, but good luck finding parking..
Awwww! Welcome to L.A.! I quickly dated a Dame from Sussex Gardens around there (maybe a decade back). I had to convince her the Mexican Style cooked Chicken, fresh on the spot and in your face, is perfectly fine thru & thru. She told me the Chicken and other meats in London are perhaps cooked way longer (by using a different method). Please try our Chicken Quesadillas (my Fav) and brush up on your Spanish (second language to us Locals). Cheers!
After listening to you discuss the horrible traveling situation, the horrible traffic, the horrible parking, the fact that it's not particularly sunny & warm, that you can't walk anywhere like you can in NYC, that the water's too cold for swimming outside of the summer, that there's lots of homeless people, that "lots of LA is seedy", that the public places are often run down, & that most people dress like slobs, and since I don't eat Mexican food, that's NOT enough to make me travel 2,000 miles from NY to visit! (however you did a really good job & hence I gave you a 'Thumbs up"). Seriously, I was there in 1975 right out of college and I was unprepared for La-La land. I'm too old to relocate there at this point in my life, but perhaps under the right circumstances I'd visit the Golden State on a group bus tour, something like that, but I wonder what the great attraction of LA is after watching this? I wonder if, like Manhattan, it's great, but ONLY if you're earning in the top 10% tax bracket?
Some great places to visit outside of LA are Catalina Island, Lake Arrowhead, Palm Springs, or even Santa Barbara. Think about spending a night on the Queen Mary. She's in need of a bit of attention but it's a very unique "hotel". The last time I was there, I got free parking in Beverly Hills at the library garage. LA is for cars so take Mulholland Drive from end to end and don't forget driving the canyons: Coldwater, Beverly Glen, Benedict. If you go on LA restaurant week you can get some decent deals dining on Canon Drive in Beverly Hills.
33 years in California, not in LA because it's actually a crap hole but very familiar with it. You'll want to go outside of LA to get the "Cali experience." A great tourist place is Huntington beach. Mexican food is amazing and he was spot on with everything else.
And stay away from "the hood" lol all joking aside it is dangerous. My husband does pipeline and his company refuses to do work in that area. They have approached him thinking he was an undercover cop. It was scary. So know where your going and stay out of those areas. Plus if you find yourself in one take off anything blue or red. Its associated with gangs you're either not one of them and shouldn't wear it or you're the enemy. Oakland, Compton etc.
Do go to long beach and visit the queen Mary. Eat at the lighthouse in long beach before jumping on the Catalina express. My favorite beach is laguna beach. The amusement parks are fun for the family. My favorite is knotts because you get a lot for your buck. Best months to go are February and September during week. Lines for rides are around 10min instead of 2 hours or more in peak months. We have season passes. LA zoo is cheap. Aquarium of the Pacific is small so its crowded in the summer but I like it. Visit places outside of LA. You'll have a better experience.
I was born in a suburb of LA (Norwalk) and I currently live on the East Coast. Transportation is not that bad, even on a city bus. Plus you can take Amtrak for not that much money from LA to Orange County (not far from Disneyland) or to San Diego. The beaches are the best in Southern California. My favorites were always Huntington Beach a little less crowded than the LA city beaches. There is also Pismo state beaches. Also be prepared to pay clothing tax if you buy clothes, linen or shoes thats something I don't pay for in NJ but in California you pay whatever % each county charges. When I moved in 2007 LA country was 8.25% while Orange County, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties were 7.75%. The suburbs (now urban) has some nice transportation also, besides Amtrak, the green line, blue line can take you along the 105 fwy towards Norwalk or up to Long Beach where the Queen Mary is located. #10 is far the best anywhere in Southern California. Most restaurants on the East Coast claimed to be Authentic Mexican but none of them taste as good as the ones from Southern California that's probably because they are Tex-mex which is not the same by far. However, Italian food is by far better on the East than on the west. My hometown of Cerritos has a bus called "COW" Cerritos on Wheels, which can take you around cerritos for a cheap fair. You can go to the Los Cerritos Center, Cerritos Library (very, very nice-it has a large aquarium, a children's center, an escalator) the last time I was there I was like "wow". If you go to LA don't get stuck in only viewing LA go south, many places to see. Lots of history on the West, like the Missions. Have fun in the sun!
I’m 2:20 into this video and gotta say it’s mostly true what’s said except: I was born and raised in the city of Anaheim & Orange and to this day I still say I’m from LA or Southern California only because I’m too lazy to explain the connectivity and also have to say traffic isn’t that bad at 3 am. It’s just fun for people to over generalize things. The good news is when traffic is flowing well it’s great cuz people tend to speed. The bad news is that traffic almost never flows well. He’s totally right about the weather. If memory serves and you scrape LA off and just have land, it’s basically high desert in that area of the world so cool at night. Cheers Bill
@YellowProductions. Thank you for the information. I wanted to add a couple of helpful facts that weren't in your video. What you said about parking in LA is true for 99.9% of the area; however in the main shopping area of Beverly Hills a little north of Wilshire Blvd on either N. Cannon Dr. or N Beverly Dr is an underground parking area where you can park for free for 2 hours. In West Hollywood in Sunset Plaza you can park behind the Cafe' Med Italian restaurant for free as long as you eat or shop at one of the places in the area of Sunset Plaza. You can also avoid paying for parking at a lot of the Malibu State Beaches like Zuma Beach or Leo Carillo by parking on the side of the road on the PCH. Lastly; at Santa Monica Pier you can avoid paying more for parking at the pier by simply parking at the Santa Monica Place Mall and walking a few blocks to the pier; there's still a fee for parking at the mall, but it's about half as much as the pier parking.
@@ninamc6116 I never said there was any problems with Zuma Beach parking. My main advice if a person doesn't want to pay for parking they can park on the side of the road on the PCH. Because the only two options for parking at Zuma Beach is either the paid parking area or the side of the road on the PCH.
I learned alot from this. I'm going to L.A. the end of June for a concert. I'm taking my kids with me also. I'm just trying to figure out what exactly I should do. Trying not to spend too much money. Where coming all the way from Florida😬👍
California is the only state in the union that legally allows motorcycles to lane split. If you have the nerve to do it, a motorcycle may get you there quicker.
B Rad been living in L.A. ever since I was born. Smog is crazy, rent is crazy, but I still love my city. I've visited a lot of popular attractions in L.A. but i still got a shit ton more to explore!
As California residents, we are terrible at giving advice on how to be a tourist here. We don't know how anyone does it successfully. We assume you're going to fail because we think it takes years to learn how to do it. So all we know how to do is to tell you what not to do and hope for the best. What we're good at is escorting you around. We can show you great stuff. Tons of it. And you won't have any idea how we found it. Because everything is so.......spread......out. You hear the expression, "Nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live there." LA may be unique in the world that it is the opposite: "Nice place to live, wouldn't want to visit." At least on your own. Like I said, we're great tour guides. Now lots of people I've asked thought they did very well here as tourists. I think that's great, and I don't know how they did it. All I can say is, Do Your Homework before you come here. The more you know, the happier you'll be.
Thank you for taking the time to make such a fantastic informative and entertaining video ☺️ We are thinking of visiting LA and this has given me more info than any travel guide or brochure 😊
I completely agree with what you said about LA Mexican food. I never realized how good we had it here in LA till I visited the midwest and had Mexican food there. Adding a tortilla to a meal does not make it Mexican food lol.
Manhattan beach is off the hook, Whole Foods is so good it's like a grocery store times 1000. Manhattan beach is so clean and has a boardwalk and alot of great shops.
hey Chris, the last time I was in L.A. we rented a car but I totally regretted it cuz Uber and Lyft are way easier, so even thou we had rented a car, we used Uber and Lyft more because it was easier than dealing with the car (didn't have to worry about parking).
goddess131 how expensive did that get? I have a car rented as well... but Ubering in like NYC where I’m from can get super expensive, how was it out there? But all this la parking crap has me worried lol
@@sdot23bk41 when I was there the Uber was really cheap, like 4, 5, 6 bucks to go where I wanted from where I stayed in Koreatown. The Uber was actually cheaper than where I live in San Francisco. Maybe try and put the address where you will be staying to where you want to go now (in ur Uber app, then cancel) just to see what the prices are
@@amys2760 yes, including tip, I always tip, when you take into account parking, insurance and gas, Uber and Lyft worked out to be way cheaper for me that trip. You can always check the average charge from point a to point b on their apps, and just cancel the trip if you don't want to take it, you could do it now just to get a sense of what the prices might be, just as long as they aren't on a surge.
I live in Arizona and love to visit Los Angeles. I am in a powered wheelchair and I love to use their subway/light rail. We drive over and stay in a motel in East Pasadena near the 'Gold Line' station. We can go to a lot of places without driving or worrying about parking. In the fall(2018)we are starting our vacation by going to the aquarium in Long Beach (Gold Line to Red Line to the Blue Line) and have lunch at Bubba Gump's. The second day we will ride the 'Expo Line' to Santa Monica and have lunch on the pier and enjoy the beach. On the way back to Pasadena when changing trains we will take time to visit Olvera Street across from the Union Station. On the third day we will have lunch near the Red Line station at Hollywood and Vine, then visit the Natural History Museum on the 'Expo Line'. Looking forward to our trip.
Thanks so much Chris! I'll be landing in LA to get to Long Beach for a weekend festival (LAX plane tickets were cheaper than LGB) and have been searching for activities to make my time there useful. I appreciate all of the heads up such as weather, traffic and rundown tourist attractions. I look forward to learning new travel tips! Have a wonderful day :)
Absolutely love your videos mate! I wish I knew you as a person mate you seem like an awesome bloke mate! I am in your part of the world in April & I hope I run into you! Thank you buddy, Appreciate ya 😊👍🏽
@tony1967ify What's color have to do with it? LA has turned into a liberal shit hole. I have lived here and in CA all my life and have seen how far down hill this place as gone, again thanks to democrat control.
K5 nothing but at least over there you won’t be broke af trying to rent and pay taxes and utilities, instead you can live in boring Missouri and save up for a trip to Cali. Much better than living in California and getting ripped off
Dude!!! You are on point! I lived in The Valley, Glendale, Santa Monica, and Long Beach. I clicked your video to prove you wrong but you are ON IT!!! Many people will thank you for this. Don’t miss that exit.. that is my recommendation lol. We can make a 12 episode 2 hour shows and still we won’t come close to prepare someone for a true LA experience. Thanks, great job!!!
I grew up in the 90's in Colorado and the term "valley girl" was often used. After all these years I finally get what that meant. Also some of my family is from the central coast. Cheers
I have to be honest. Coming to LA for the past four years, I enjoyed the nice personality it has. Always alive downtown, seeing the Hollywood sign from afar. Going to Santa Monica and Venice. Yet, I can't help but notice the trash on the streets are building each year. It's kinda like, the rich movie stars are living among the top area of Beverly Hills. Away from the filth. But it definitely has great mexican food!
I just spent Thanksgiving weekend in LA, and to my shock, there was not much traffic to speak of from Thursday to Saturday. On Sunday, when I was trying to rush to get out of town to go home, it was back to being gridlock. But from now on, I'm visiting LA during Thanksgiving.
It was interesting watching your video on LA. I agree with just about everything except King Taco. King Taco’s food is “okay” and they have a very limited menu. I used to work in LA for 35 years, including 25 in downtown and East Los where there is an abundance of Mexican restaurants. You are absolutely spot on with regards to traffic and parking. Trying to navigate LA streets during the busiest hours is maddening.
I’ll be there soon! I’m excited and nervous to be there... From N.Z. to L.A. Glitz and glam or not I’m sure it will still be a huge difference. I can’t wait! 😊
That’s like taking a vacation from paradise to a landfill lol...why would you come here? Go to Santa Barbara, San Diego, Orange County, or like ocean cities heading towards San Francisco (but not San Fran)....I would avoid LA....it’s dirty/smells bad and traffic is terrible. Not to mention you might get robbed, kidnapped, raped, murdered, etc etc
Last time I was in LA was in 1980. I enjoyed it. I'm sure it has changed a lot. Driving and parking wasn't bad back then. I watched your video on cheap places to eat and it made me hungry. LOL In watching it you mentioned rest rooms. That's one thing you could have included in this video- the availability of public restrooms.
Here in Texas Mexican food is the same...GREAT! Both, Tex-Mex, and authentic Mexican food. Although, it is different (different origins) than California, but EXCELLENT (usually).
This is the greatest video ever right now. No really. Everything I've been googling trying to understand you explained. I am so grateful and kinda in shock as to what I just learned. To la people this may seem dumb but I never understood why orange county people say they're not from la. I'm going to watch this over and over and memorize this. Most useful video I've seen in a long time. Thank you you really helped me.
One more thing the best place to spend a day in Southern California is Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. Hands down the best museum in the USA if not the world, and the best thing its undiscovered. Many of the wold best artists work on display.
Yes as a Californian when visiting LA get out of LA asap lol. The outskirts of the LA region are the best. As for beaches except for Malibu, go south for the nice beaches past Long Beach all the way to San Diego.
LA is also known for its awesome Asian cuisine. There are some fantastic authentic Chinese restaurants in San Gabriel and Arcadia, great Korean restaurants in Korea town, and fantastic Thai places in Los Angeles and sprinkled around the county. We also have more than decent all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants, you just have to find them. Yelp, while not perfect is a phone app that can point you to some pretty unique and great restaurants that even most locals don’t even know about.
Idk why people always say to check out Venice beach, it is not as great as everyone says. It's filled with solicitors and smells like weed and piss. I've lived near LA my whole life and I had no idea there was a subway here. Wtf. No one here uses public transport. You actually can see famous people in Hollywood from time to time. Whenever they hold premieres or any special event, which is pretty often. Your chance of seeing someone famous is actually not that rare on any given day. I went to a Jimmy Kimmel taping one time and I spent about 1.5 to 2 hours there, no where near 4 hours. This is counting getting in the queue.
wishmaster Thank you! Amen! Venice is way overrated and dirty. I avoid that area during the day and I would never consider going there after the sun goes down.
I use the subway everyday. four trains a day. It convenient if you work downtown. Venice beach smells like ass and bellybutton rolled up into a blunt smoked by crack heads that haven't showered in eight years. I avoid it when I can but sometimes we have to take visitors there and so I just suffer through it like an American Ninja Warrior. Jimmy Kimmel sucks. But free concerts when he closes the street are cool. Saw Justin Timberlake there on the street performing. That shit was free.
When I used to live in L.A., I came across celebrities from time to time. As far as tapings, I think he was speaking more on TV sitcoms. I once attended a Jamie Foxx Show taping, and it did in fact take about 4 hours to film. Sitcoms will take a lot longer to film vs a talk show.
LOL! Yes, you nailed it with most of it. If you like King Taco, you’ll love Sam’s Tacos on Whittier and Soto. I actually like it more than King Taco and it’s open 24 hrs. About public transport.... my grandma and I mom never owned a car and they got around their whole lives just fine in L.A. My husband and I just got our first car last year at age 34. I still take the bus to work because I work only a 10-min bus drive away with a ten minute walk from the bus stop. He works all the way in Walnut, so he takes the car during the week, but it’s convenient on weekends. Still, now we have to deal with traffic and parking, so we end up taking the bus or Uber anyway, especially if we plan to go bar-hopping to DTLA.
Good video man! I'm from the LA area and this is a good video to share with my friends or anyone thinking to visit LA before they do :) only thing i would mention though - you said LA dress code is casual but I would disagree with that specifically in terms of night clubs where you must dress decent or probably won't get in. THAT is also not what people expect when they come here. AND expect to pay a high cover and wait in line if you're thinking to go anywhere nice and you're not a group of good looking girls. A lot of people hate LA night life scene (compared to other places) to for those reasons. Great video!
Thanks! And I appreciate the additional input on nightclubs.. that's not really my scene.. which is probably why I didn't know to share that tidbit. But it makes sense.. usually people I see in line for clubs are quite dressed up!
I watched your video about Las Vegas and it was very useful when i went for my 21st! Now I'm going to LA and again, i found your videos so useful! Thank you !
Compared to other cities including in Europe, LA could be considered a breeze to park. Most often in many parts there is free street parking and lots of free two hour lots. Try parking in NY, Chicago, San Francisco, Paris, Nice France etc and your only option will be double parking!
Thank you, Chris, for all your fun and informative videos....we are from Bavaria, Germany. This May we did a trip to the US. All yor recommendations made our vacation unforgettable, we sometimes felt as a native!! Please make more videos from LA, San Diego, Central Coast and SF!! We plan to come back!!!!
LA is not a desert. Under the Koppen classification, LA has a CSA and a CSB climate - the same as Northern Portugal, Southern France and most of Italy.
+Robert Courtemarche Interesting.. well in the summer it can feel like a Desert :). Thanks for the correction. I went to Wikipedia and read up more about Climates :)
Yellow Productions it isn’t a desert, is is more of a chaparral. If you didn’t know, the La basin used to be woodlands and swamps before humans were here. There even used to be bears roaming everywhere, now it’s just the foothills
It's Mediterranean and arid (meaning normally dry) the natural water supply comes from the local mountains snowfall which is not very much and from the occasional rainfall, mostly winter and spring and almost all of that water and snow runoff flows into the creeks and rivers that become cement aquaducts that channel the water to the ocean. Most of the rivers and creeks have been turned into storm drains and flood control channels because the city was prone to flash flooding back before the 1940s when the Army Corp of Engineers built reservoirs and made a cement river system so that more homes and businesses could be built without the threat of flooding from the rivers and creeks. Basically ruining the river's natural beauty and wildlife until recently when the rivers are being turned back into the natural state they once were.
I was in Burbank, LA for six months on a business trip. Man!! The weather is real unpredictable. Hot as f**k during the day and chilling cold at night. Homeless folks are literally EVERYWHERE. People out here are nice & friendly though. I made really good friends. In that six months, i went to Fresno, San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego, San Bernadino & New York City. Overall i can say that i had a good time in LA. Would love to visit again someday. ❤️

Good price on tacos
Yellow Productions what air port do u recommend if ur flying out of DFW
14. No matter how much LA looks like shit hole Tijuana. You really are in America.
Yellow Productions, if Santa Monica, Beverly hills and all them other smaller cities are independent, why do people claim them to be LA when technically it's not?
Hi I live in Panama Central America and I wanna travel to Los Angeles
"Stay here for a month and you won't see it all." Hahaha! I've lived here all my life and I haven't seen it all!
true but if you want to do something ,and have a gps it is easy to get around ",im from Norway around 5 mill people all in al"l ,but to eat at Canters Deli as my first day as driver in LA was real smooth,it is a lot of cars but people over there are way more calm than in EU , best place i ever been , it even beats Vegas :)
Exactly what I thought when he said that! I am from Inglewood, and I'm the same, never seen it all.
The story of my life!
That's probably because you just got used to it, and don't care anymore..
Get out more !
I’m a L.A. native and everything he said is so true.
Same with Hawaii lol. A lot of homelessness
Hehe, how do you mean when you call the transplants?
What do yo mean with you don't feel "that way" about the homeless? What way?
Want a better chance of catching stars/celebrities? You're more likely to run into them eating lunch or grabbing coffee in Studio City, Calabasas, or Woodland Hills.
Great tip!
I though Calabasas was closed for «normal» people?
Not a bad idea. I am planning on going there next month because I have family there.
Sledanet Oh no, he meant stars as in celebrities not real stars
I will try to see what spots are connected by the metro and easy bus routes, if majority of them are metro connected, i will be so happy xD
I just feel like buses are going to be difficult for me as the timings are not good and homeless people :(
Skyee I wonder how did that go ?
havent gone to LA yet, I will go in April , plans delayed xD
Here's another tip, you don't wanna be on thee 405 Fwy at 4:05pm at all.
+LongieR8er Good tip! :)
Stay away from the 91 fwy!
LongieR8er dude that's everywhere in LA lol
Eziekle Crafts what the fuck??
Tourists need to know that motorcycles riding between cars (lane splitting) is legal in California.
Absolutely!
As a motorcyclist thanks!
@Mike Gunnerst Ha! I'm so offended lol.
Skyerzen that took some getting used to!
As in everywhere else in the world. Except the other United States states.
The marine layer
The parking joke about the 405 was so on point 😂 I was crying
6:30 "its not always sunny...particularly at night"
You dont say?
he was referring to the temperature
💀
I’m an LA native and here’s a list of places to avoid:
Other than a meal at historic Musso and Franks steer clear of the entire Hollywood and Highland area. It’s a mess and filled with tourists. The Chinese theater is no big deal either.... remember Hollywood is no longer glamorous and hasn’t been since the 1950s
Venice beach is a dump. I live 15 minutes away and go once every few years if I have no choice. Head towards Malibu instead
You can check out the valley if you want but I sure as hell wouldn’t waste any vacation time out there.
If you have a rental car don’t attempt driving through downtown LA because it’s so confusing with one-way streets and construction. I wouldn’t even drive down there, take an Uber
Great tips on things to avoid. Thanks Scott. I feel the same way about Venice Beach for sure :)
Hey man, I'm moving to LA soon, maybe once there we can meet to hang around, cheers man
no no. walked around hollywood and highland with my wife and kid, its worth an hour and the sidewalk star things are fun. just ignore the cartoon character guys. it was fine....venice beach is not a "dump". its a rapidly gentrifying area that still attracts all kinds of characters and some sketchy people, but again, no problems there with my family....Malibu? fine for a lunch and some beach time, but thats a rich persons town.
Like Igor, I'm also moving down there. Any chance we could talk on the phone for a bit so I could pick your brain about LA? I know no one from there and I'd like to know more about it.
Did you move to LA? How is it? I'm moving there in a couple months and would like to know more about it.
They wanted to charge me nearly 300 bucks for waiting until the end of the month pay it
Good point!
Thanks Mark!
When you’re from Scotland and he said bring a jacket and long trousers but you find out the typical night temperature is 16 degrees Celsius.
I’m going to be in shorts the whole time or I’m going to melt.
I say to pack them.. didn't say you have to wear them :). Many people underestimate how cold it gets in LA at night. Enjoy the shorts weather! :)
Yes I'm a Celtic ginger and I visit LA in December and it's still too hot for me
I'm from Canada and we have snow in winter so that's nothing
What is 16 Celsius in Fahrenheit?
1. Malibu seafood ( it’s byob with ocean views)
2. Fuddruckers in Burbank best hidden gem when it comes to burgers!
3. Topanga canyon hiking trails the views and rock formations are amazing then eat at carnitas Michoacan Mexican food down the street ( shopping center at Larsen and topanga canyon)
Thank me later! Btw I’m from the valley so this is just my section of LA.
Houses are cheaper going south
I like how you don’t mince words! These are things that really need to be said. 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks pandaroc!
I've been visiting LA for 20 years, and I have to say - you really nailed this. Perfect advice.
Awesome! Thanks Robert!
I'm from Cali, and everything he said is pretty much true- I was saying yep, yep to everything he said
Thanks for the confirmation!
L.A. has so many awesome hole-in-the-wall restaurants of every kind, I wouldn’t waste any time here going to dress-up places. Going to the little places can also help get you out into different neighborhoods (because there are SO many neighborhoods), and then you’ll feel like you experienced more of the city.
whoa whoa 67 is cold? I need to go to LA for winter to get away from 28.
Thanks Chris, I am heading to LA this week so your video is very helpful 😀
Thanks Marlee
For the extra tips.. and I agree on LAX. I flew in to LAX last night.. and whenever I do I'm reminded how much I hate that airport.
dont offer the "homeless" anything. a quick "Sorry" when they ask for money is enough.
Try Burbank airport next time and stay @ The Burbank Marriott. It’s across the street from the airport.
Sounds like you know alot...where would you stay for a girls trip (mature women) wanted to stay on beach but see all the Hollywood stuff?? Maybe 2 different places??
He can get water, what he needs is a home, do you carry one of those with you?
Native of LA here.. family has been here since the 40s.
You hit it out of the park in this video.
Free parking on THE 405
LMAO!! That was great!
Thanks ant a!
I'm from Chicago the bus doesn't scare me, nor do "sketchy places"😂
Thats good!
Thanks Ingrid! :)
VERY useful, shorty and straight to the point. Thank you. Travelling to LA from London :)
Enjoy LA!
Hah.. thanks Dave. My goal is to give it to you straight :).
Thanks for the day trip tips!
This was extremely helpful. Thank you!
Thanks Nerdy!
Good Pretty Accurate Tips and also Spot On with the descriptions. 👍
I’d recommend to take the blue line metro all the way to downtown Long Beach. There is so much to do and it’s not over crowded. Super underrated
Thanks for the tips Michelle!
Definitely agree about the fish tacos! I'm from the UK and it was the first thing I ate when I got here as I missed them so much!!
Fish tacos are pretty tasty :)
+Travis Kelly Hi Travis -- Great parking tips! Thanks for the addition!
Hey man, I'm moving to LA soon, maybe once there we can meet to hang around, cheers man
Love the info. Thanks
I had no problem parking near Zuma beach
@@ninamc6116 I never said there was any problems with Zuma Beach parking. My main advice if a person doesn't want to pay for parking they can park on the side of the road on the PCH. Because the only two options for parking at Zuma Beach is either the paid parking area or the side of the road on the PCH.
I learned alot from this. I'm going to L.A. the end of June for a concert. I'm taking my kids with me also. I'm just trying to figure out what exactly I should do. Trying not to spend too much money. Where coming all the way from Florida😬👍
Actually, the public transit / subway system / orange line all go farther than you mentioned. the subway system can go up to long beach etc
Eden Shizzle there is no subway to Long Beach. The Blue Line goes to Long Beach and that is light rail not a subway.
Man I'm moving to LA soon, do you think if I get a motorcycle I can avoid traffic? I love bikes
California is the only state in the union that legally allows motorcycles to lane split. If you have the nerve to do it, a motorcycle may get you there quicker.
Is it safe??
@@kaziu312 you’re right for some reason I thought the blue line was part of the subway system when I left this comment lol
Ur my fave travel youtuber, been binging ur videos ahead of my upcoming US trip!!
Thanks Rollsaroll!
Man you gotta live here to fully explore LA. Good luck though, rent here is expensive af.
South Central is Cheap compare the other areas but it ain't no park ball, its survival at best
B Rad fr
Thats what i heard seriously
B Rad been living in L.A. ever since I was born. Smog is crazy, rent is crazy, but I still love my city. I've visited a lot of popular attractions in L.A. but i still got a shit ton more to explore!
You gotta live in the valley man
Wow !!! You explained everything beautifully. You are super informative. Thank you it really helped me.
Thanks N Pena!
Nah. The first four sentences of that comment from top to bottom don’t happen to be the truth. /
Thank you for taking the time to make such a fantastic informative and entertaining video ☺️ We are thinking of visiting LA and this has given me more info than any travel guide or brochure 😊
Awesome. Thanks Kelly!
I lived in LA for 4 years
I agree with you a 💯 , all your tips are on spot
Awesome Chetana! Thanks!
I completely agree with what you said about LA Mexican food. I never realized how good we had it here in LA till I visited the midwest and had Mexican food there. Adding a tortilla to a meal does not make it Mexican food lol.
If we aren't talking corn tortillas then I don't count it as Mexican. 🤣
Nor does adding Mexicans to America make them Americans.
Maybe try and put the address where you will be staying to where you want to go now (in ur Uber app, then cancel) just to see what the prices are
@@goddess131 Including the Tip? Uber and Lyft drivers need to be Tipped. So many people forget that.
Going to LA soon from Australia. This is super helpful. Thank you.
Thanks James!
as a minnesotan, 45 degrees is tshirt weather. LA will always be paradise for me
Ya'll are a hearty bunch there in Minnesota :)
Thanks Jocelyn!
we used the subway to go from hollywood to universal and soooo easy and useful
One day I wanna visit Los Angeles one day just to have fun
Absolutely love your videos mate! I wish I knew you as a person mate you seem like an awesome bloke mate! I am in your part of the world in April & I hope I run into you!
Thank you buddy,
Appreciate ya 😊👍🏽
Grew up in LA. Recently moved to Missouri. WOW!!! Life is wonderful here. I never realized how miserable LA is.
Hah!
@tony1967ify What's color have to do with it? LA has turned into a liberal shit hole. I have lived here and in CA all my life
and have seen how far down hill this place as gone, again thanks to democrat control.
David De Jesus wth is there to do in Missouri tho
K5 nothing but at least over there you won’t be broke af trying to rent and pay taxes and utilities, instead you can live in boring Missouri and save up for a trip to Cali. Much better than living in California and getting ripped off
@@jrcwwl doesn't take away all the positives LA has to offer moron!
Thanks Florentine! Kind words for sure.. I appreciate it!
You don’t want to miss any exits on FWY 105 along Compton area. You will be in hell on earth.
Great Video I Live in Burbank and you killed it !!!
Thanks Just Me!
The trash is building every year.. its gross
Some of the rich movie stars are trash. 🤣
Thanks for realistic and not hateful advice.
As a native so cal resident. This is accurate for travelers.
+M G Thanks for the vote of confidence M G!
Sir what hotel do you recommend. I prefer less expensive one but accessible. I’m planning to visit in November. Thank you.
Don't waste your money at other donut shops! Go to Randy's get some classic glaze and apple fritters! Also Iron Man tricked me, there is no inside
California Donut in K-Town is worth stopping by for some donuts 🍩
It was interesting watching your video on LA. I agree with just about everything except King Taco. King Taco’s food is “okay” and they have a very limited menu. I used to work in LA for 35 years, including 25 in downtown and East Los where there is an abundance of Mexican restaurants. You are absolutely spot on with regards to traffic and parking. Trying to navigate LA streets during the busiest hours is maddening.
Haha! True Dat about the traffic. Between 3:30pm and 7:30pm just stay home and do your laundry or braid your hair,
I’ll be there soon! I’m excited and nervous to be there... From N.Z. to L.A.
Glitz and glam or not I’m sure it will still be a huge difference. I can’t wait! 😊
Same!! Girls week for us have fun!
LA native (South East LA)
King Taco!!!!! Dude, yes!!! Great way to end the list!!!
Good video. Pretty much nailed it!!
Thanks jonther!
Also you have a lot of trolls
Thanks for the kind words!
If you have any troll repellent I'll take it! RUclips is full of them unfortunately!
sheloveswilby if you need advice about LA just comment in one of my videos 👍
Lived here my whole life and I haven’t even seen the most of it. Good job on the video; every point you made was spot on!
Thanks ld!
Born and raised... but still binging your videos. All great!
+SKOHC Thanks Skohc!
I am an L.A. native and this video nails it!
Thanks Mighty Cass!
One more thing the best place to spend a day in Southern California is Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. Hands down the best museum in the USA if not the world, and the best thing its undiscovered. Many of the wold best artists work on display.
Oh my! A friend recommended this one. love it. Saves me the travelling. :-)
Really helpful, practical tips. I've just started planning a first ever visit to California from the UK so these will be great.
Great tip on yelp!
Jay Walker LMAO alot of people are
Nice profile pic!
True. The valley is also part of the Los Angeles County.
The San Fernando Valley is a part of City of Los Angeles
I would add that despite the haze that may be on the beach you will get sunburn without sunscreen.
Great tip!
Hey man, I'm moving to LA soon, maybe once there we can meet to hang around, cheers man
Great vid! You hit it a bullseye with all your info.
Thanks P F!
Nice video man ! you should do one for people planning to actually move to LA
+Igor Rosales Hmmm... I'll have to think about what to say in that one!
No problem bro, let me know if I can help... I'm also planning to visit LA in 2018
Title: “one thing to know before moving to LA”
2 second video : Don’t move to LA
I watched your video about Las Vegas and it was very useful when i went for my 21st!
Now I'm going to LA and again, i found your videos so useful! Thank you !
Compared to other cities including in Europe, LA could be considered a breeze to park. Most often in many parts there is free street parking and lots of free two hour lots. Try parking in NY, Chicago, San Francisco, Paris, Nice France etc and your only option will be double parking!
Except no one drives in those cities because you dont have to.
True, LA was designed to be a car city, it is way spread out
Thank you, Chris, for all your fun and informative videos....we are from Bavaria, Germany. This May we did a trip to the US. All yor recommendations made our vacation unforgettable, we sometimes felt as a native!! Please make more videos from LA, San Diego, Central Coast and SF!! We plan to come back!!!!
Thanks Michael! For Cali videos coming up for sure!
West Hollywood is a fabulous place to visit.
Hey man, I'm moving to LA soon, maybe once there we can meet to hang around, cheers man
Very accurate I’m watching this after my trip
LA is not a desert. Under the Koppen classification, LA has a CSA and a CSB climate - the same as Northern Portugal, Southern France and most of Italy.
Nice video, though.
There even used to be bears roaming everywhere, now it’s just the foothills
yikes, mentioning CA in the same breath as Portugal, France, and Italy.
That's a good description of LA weather :)
Mingma Bhuti Bhutia why list Las Vegas and New York City lol they aren’t in California
Very helpful
Thanks Melissa!
