Those slide contacts on top of the gimbal housing connect to a compatible connection on the NEW Q500 4Ks with black motors. The cable housing is actually covered loosely with a rubber flao. That power source can be used for powering accessories you may want to add like LED lights or a second camera for FPV goggles.
Buyer's beware! I had a similar situation with my Q500 but with a bit less damage or so I thought. Just off the phone with Yuneec repair who currently has my copter which I've flown 3 times. Given an estimate of $393 to replace the gimbal circuit board AND the 3 wires mentioned in this video. I told the rep those wires no longer serve a purpose, the camera is controlled by the newer jumper wire. She told me they are required to repair the copter to a new status per the manufacturer. Also, I was told the lower part of the copter was damaged and needs to be replaced. I spent a considerable amount of time working on the gimbal after watching videos like this (very helpful by the way!) and never saw any frame damage. The rep said she will take a picture and email it to me. I'll review the picture before making a decision on that part. I may forego the piece of the repair and order the part from Amazon as the guy in this video did. If you send your copter in for repair I strongly suggest taking multiple pics from every angle before sending it.
+Kell F yeah they kept wanting me to send in the drone. Eventually my Gimbal did die, due to me tinkering with an alternative gimbal.. with live wires, and I had to send it into Yuneec. They sent it back to me with the hot sync wires not even there anymore. The hot shoe is completely useless.
I just got it back after 3 weeks or so. The cost was $180.00. A major flaw for this copter that wasn't aware of is the circuit board that controls the camera is unique to the gimbal. I read about the 3 wires that serve no purpose anymore because of the jumper wire. Support at United Radio essentially said that didn't matter, per the manufacturer they have to restore to "new" status. Another flaw with this copter is that it's made in Canada. Anyhow, I have it back, haven't had a chance to fly it yet due to weather. But going forward, I'll be on pins and needles flying it - any level of crash is bound to be costly.
+Kell F that is exactly how I am when I lift it up. I did the mistake of not testing it when it got back from Yuneec and found the tilt no longer works.
Thank you for this video. Saved me a ton of time, money, and heartache when I crashed my drone about a year ago. Called Yuneec Tech Support and the rep who seemed to have no knowledge of the drone at all wanted me to pay to ship the whole unit back for repair and testing which would've been a few hundred bucks. After watching this, I just removed the PCB from the top of the gimbal and plugged the braided cable in, been flying with no issues for a year. Cheers.
I've not had an issue with the gimbal tilt. When my crash happened I didn't have the braid cable connected, maybe an issue with damage from sheering force on that cable?
Dude just saved me a ton of money. I was going to ship it back to Yuneec to fix the CGO3 camera, but this video was all I needed. I would’ve never known that those 3 wires serve no purpose. Awesome save.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. My drone Typhoon Q500 acted up and was stuck 50 feet up in a tree. I had to come up with a contraption to get it down and when it did i briefly caught it and the gimbal came apart and so did those wires. I was just ready to put a claim and and came across your video. It took me about 5 minutes while cooking supper to fix my Typhoon. Again thanks for making this video.
Good job, I can't believe people didn't know how to fix this! I need to start keeping an open mind, a lot of people are buying flying devices that never had much of an interest in the actual craft.
Same exact thing happened to me. I didn't really crash it, but hard landing, it rip the 3 wires from the gimbal just like yours. Luckily the camera works. I talked to Yuneec and they said the same thing like you said. I am going to return it now. Thanks for putting this to light.
This just happened to me today. My first flight after upgrading to the 4k. Camera is okay as far as I can tell. For some reason when the battery got low, I put the drone into "come home" mode and it was coming in but it tried to fly over my head, i backed her up, then she starting coming down really fast...I tried to slow it down but it wouldn't work. She hit hard and flipped on to it's back throwing the camera off. Those three wires were ripped off the circuit board just like he said. So I remembered seeing this video and plugged the other wire back in...everything seems okay. I am checking out the video that was taken right now. For some reason, My computer won't play the video file right from the SD card very well. It's skips and is very slow...strange. So I'm loading it ibn Windows Movie maker to see if that works better. So....I don't understand why it came down in return to home mode so fast, nor do I understand why I got a low battery warning, when I checked the voltage on the controller it was 11.0 volts. When I put a battery checker on it, it was 11.0 volts. I don't think it should be low until 10.2 or something close like that. Weird. Hope I don't have another problem, like a bad battery or something.
Also had two silver small screws rattling around in the camera...when I got home, they fell out of the camera onto my work table. Don't know where they came from...maybe that circuit board that the wires ripped off of??
+PintoBlades same thing happened to me.....twice. The culprit: Poor preflight calibration I hooked it up to my laptop and saw that the drone thought it was moving. It also thought it was 30ft in the air. When it was really at 30ft it thought it was at 60ft. Hitting "home" in this state will make the drone drop to what it thinks is 30ft....which is the ground
I cannot thank you enough!!!! I almost threw up when I saw my camera separated from my q500 and the wire ripped out after a crash! This is the best information on the internet right now!!!!
Thank you for saving me the hassle and cost of having to ship my CGO3 to Ontario. The cable needed in this case came with my Q500 4K in the accessories box.
Thank you ComicGamer. I crashed my Q500 right away when I forgot to tighten the props and one of them flew off. It looked like the machine was done for but you saved the day.
i wonder which method is new and which is old, i like the braided cables more.. it's like a security blanket! Though the 3 wires that came loose as best guess control sound, video, and up/down control. I snapped mine off and didnt have the braided cables hooked up.. or rather i never did. But i had sound video and no control, so i lost the control wire.. i plugged in the braided cable and it worked fine again.. so i can assume both do the same thing anyway.. It's kind of cool having two methods almost as a fail safe.
Thanks! Had my first major crash today and I was very pleased to hear that those 3 wires were vestigial. You saved me $600 for a new camera and gimbal.
+William Guy Make sure you make sure the broken wires are in no way touching each other. Others, including myself, eventually had a short and fried the tilt board.
Great video and very informative. I ripped my gimbal off two of its rubber mounts but luckily, didn't rip any wires. One niggle though.....the word is so'L'der and not "Sodder"...otherwise carry on sir.
Howard Bull sorry I grew up in Hawaii and now have a habit of drop "L" sounds from words with LD in them. It's a bitch when talking to Alexa. Other words I have issues with: holder (hodor) and soldier (sojer)
It is very easy to prevent camera to mount detachment by using loosely installed small zip ties, string, or dental floss looped through the vibration mounts to prevent full separation. Whatever you use, they must not limit normal movement of the vibration mounts.
+Comic Gamer Kids Hey man I need some help. I just had a hard landing and my cgo3 ripped off and of course ripped the upper wires off. I also found that the other plugs got unplugged. I looked around and found a few but not right wire diagrams. To make a long story short the cgo3 comes on but now doesn't move like it did at start up. nothing moves but I do have picture on my st10+. Thanks Joe S.
+Comic Gamer Kids Yes that is correct. I get power to the camera and shows green light and picture on the st10+ but no startup movement nor up and down with the controller. It just stays limp. I clipped the wires from the pcb board to the extra board mounted on top due to crash. Yeah I don't know correct wire placement. Motor wires on the bottom of board, motor control wires to right of board, and camera control + power on the left of board. Camera wires are in right spot. Other aren't. Thanks
I knew about the wire deal but it only works in tilt - not pan. I tried this same camera on my other 3 Q500 4k with same results - tilt only. Anyway, thanks for the best vid on this subject
Comic Gamer Kids. Today May 7th 2016. I just f'ing crashed my yuneec q500 4k drone b/c I witch it to smart mode and it flew away from me trying to get out of the safe fly zone and it hit a light pole. I'm soo pissed off man, my entire afternoon flight was flawless, super nice, and the moment i switched it to smart mode. I crashed. I own two Phantoms, and number of toy grade quadcopters and I have never crashed the way I crashed today. Anyways, My Yunnec, hit the pose, the gimble came flying and deattached from the drone. broke 3 of the 4 props, and the 3 wires in the gimble desoldered from the gimble. Needless to say I was sooo pissed off at myself. I was so worried my gimbal and camera were gone. So I looked up how to solder the 3 wire here in youtube and stumbled upon you video. So what I've notice that if the 3 wires that are soldered are connected, you basically do not have to connect the braided cable.
+Juan Chang yes you don't need to connect the braided cable if the solder is intact and not bridging. I vowed to only fly in Angle mode from now on. You need to make a lot of assummptions when flying in other modes. I assume that my drone knows where it is at all times.
+Comic Gamer Kids. I was sooo damn mad yesterday. I take care of my drones. I own 2 phantoms. Never crashed them, i flew yesterday at angle mide almost the entire time then i wanted to try out smart mode and the aircraft flew away from my location trying to get out if the takeoff zone and crashes. Soooo pissed off at myself. Gimbal came lose, camera disconnected, scrashed the camera lens, broke the props. Man basicaly in terms of damage, i experienced the same damage u had.
just FYI, this happened to me with my GoPro mount on the q500 G and it was exactly the same. just put it back together and plugged the braided wire in and everything was back to normal. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO! i might have purchased a new gimbal after ripping the wires out.
I bought H520 and e-90 and the guy who is a Yuneec distributor when he was showing me the camera told to drill tiny holes on each side of the gimbal and put a fishing line inside. I know it sounds weird to hear it when you buy a brand new bundle but it does make sense watching your video. If you had had these lines on each side then the gimbal would not have come apart.
This is the best video yet - you guys are lucky that the gimbal will survive a crash where the body would crack and pops break and the camera has minor issues. My phantom 3 pro crashed from about 15 feet when I ascended into a tree branch. It fell to the ground and only the gimbal broke. I repaired it myself after buying a $80 repair kit but the ribbon cable is bad. A tough gimbal is very essential I was considering the P4 but will recommend a Q500. It's a better deal especially including the steady grip and aluminum case. I had no way of testing the camera separate from the drones body but with the grip you'll know quickly if you pr camera is working Amazon.com here I come
+William Gomban Jr. I was initially going to get a P3 but I have read (and heard) from numerous sources including @demunseed that the #DJI build quality has deteriorated. I am in the final stages of the body transplant on my Q500. I swear this has been an amazing learning experience.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was afraid I'd have to pay $600 for another gimbal if I couldn't find the wiring diagram. Imagine my elation to find out those detached wires have no useful purpose! BTW for anyone reading this who has a Blade Chroma drone with the CGO3/4K w/3 axis gimbal... this is applicable.
+Comic Gamer Kids So, as you said, the wire is not critical. The camera worked fine without it. However, my tilt control was broke so I had to send it out to HH.
Damn. if I knew that on the field.. I lost a shoot moment, for a friend wedding. Can't wait to go and try mine, to see if this will work. I have all 3 wire's, strapped of. Thanks.
Another thank you for this video, I panicked when I crashed my bird but this video gave me a lot of relief. My bird is back together and ready to go thanks to you!
Actually on the newer models those pads do act a quick connect for the camera to the drone body. No external cable needed. Unfortunately after re-soldering I only had continuity on 2 of the 3 leads. Camera works fine using the external connector but I'd be happier i I didn't have to
My pins just broke on the quick connect. I just noticed that the internal wire for the quick connect can plug straight into the gimbal. That is a third option now.
life saver! was about to go through the bullshit of soldering it back together. now that I think about it, I remember a yuneec employee telling me about those 2 things doing the same thing but it completely vanished from my brain
They are actually connected to the top plate that slides up under that belly of the drone. That replacement wire will fix the problem I just replaced mine got it back together waiting for the battery to charge. Will take it up make sure the camera is working. Does this help? The wires are meant to break in case of a crash. Do you have the extra camera wire in you accessory box?
Im having a strange problem where the camera won't balance and I have lost control of it. I can't find any non-connected solder points. I also have an electrical background and am excellent at micro soldering, but I can't figure out where the issue is! please contact me if you would
Question, with the video repairing the typhoon camera 4k... Where did you get that wire that plugged to the chip to the drone body/ steady grip. I have purchased two typhoons one from best buy and the other from yuneec, neither boxes included that wire...
Crashed into a tree and the camera powers up and transmits, but the gimbal doesn't want to work. No up down od any kind of stabilization when I tilt etc. Could that from one of the three wires. It always had the separate cable and I've swapped that out.
@@ChrisZwolinskiI sent it to Yuneec 2x and it was a 4 week turn around time. I haven't tried bestbuy. Also refurbs on eBay were only $200. I bought a couple there
To make sure I get this right... those 3 wires do literally nothing and as long as I have that connecting piece it will still work? Even without those 3 being connected?
Your statement concerning the three wires and the contacts on the gimbal is incorrect. With the three wires connected the external gimbal connector is not required to connect the CGO3 camera to the Q500 4K or the steady grip. I know this as I had been flying my Q500 4K with out the external cable until I crashed and the three wires were broken. As you say the external cable will provide camera operation in the case that the three wires are broken.
The statement about the three wires not having any function. If those wires are broken and the external cable is not attached the camera will not function. The three wires are connected to the contact plate on the gimble mount and take the place of the external cable. The camera and gimble will work correctly if those three wires are connected and the external cable is removed.
Lou 1967 sorry about that. I actually was implying that it was a redundant system and the camera didn't rely solely on the three wires on the board. Funny thing is my Gimbal eventually died again and when Yuneec sent it back they did not solder any wires onto the board. Yuneec knows the internal wires are causing damage and still charge customers $150 to fix the damage the shorted wires cause
Can you please help or advise me. Recently my Q500 went in the water completely for about 5 seconds only. I did what I could to dry it and remove all moisture.. It would not start. Only a small blue light visible inside somewhere. Anyway I put it on my laptop gui app and every thing checked out ok except the 4 Speed controller.. Initialisation failed.... So my question is will I need new ESC's . Or could it be something else ( Motherboard ? ) The trouble here in South Australia is they charge a minimum of 4 hours labor at $35.00per hour before they even do anything.. $140.00 b4 I start! Not fair really. Any way I hope you can help a bit. Even where could I buy these parts if I do need them . Thanks And also can you recommend a place for repairs.. It's a shame I couldn't post a picture of the results Thanks for reading. ;-)
carolinadronz.com/ has parts. The main parts are the 4 ESCs and motherboard in this drone. If you have soldering skills, or want to take a crack at it, try replacing those. I would put some power to the motors to see if they even spin at this point. The main board is $160 Each ESC is $30. Each Motor is also $30
When flying in smart mode, does your altitude and speed display correctly? Angle mode appears to be fine, but a lot of people are having issues with smart mode. Just curious if you've experienced this as well.
i just had my first crash and the wires came off, unfortunetly when use thr gimbal with the other cable, i still get a picture but the camera wont "move" when i turn it around.. any idea ? did something else break ?
+Lars M If the camera stabilizes via gimbal but doesn't tilt then it could be a loose wire. If the camera doesn't stabilize then there was most like a short once the cables broke loose
Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement body? My drone is pretty much in the same condition but I've been unable to find a replacement body (the only one I did find says they want $300 for just the flightbody). My drone has the camera ripped from the unit and one arm is nearly completely snapped. I'm thinking maybe the drone is just too old now to find affordable parts. If you or someone could get back to me I'd very much appreciate it. I haven't gotten to test it yet, but the information that the plug can be used instead of the damaged cables will be helpful to me. Thanks.
Correction. There are some Q500 and Typhoon that has terminal contacts on top of the CG03 gimbal mount. I have one that does. I also used the farmiliar jack below the belly as an auxillary power connect. It puts out 12v in the 2 close wires at plug on the jack.
Can someone please tell me what to use to put the rubber .. bags ? back onto the shoe plate ? small forceps or something ? Mine decided to crash while in home mode and only one of the wires popped. out. Thanks very much and great video
Awesome thanks I will throw some electrical tape on that one wire that popped out .. I connected it to the steady grip and it seemed like it was functioning without that wire. Thanks again !
+Comic Gamer Kids it did center itself I haven't tried the tilt yet however I tried it with the steady grip and I believe the tilt works ... I'm attaching the rubber dampeners tonight so I will let you know
I think so, I will put the rubber dampeners on tonight and plug it into the steady grip and see if the tilt works, the only cable that came undone was the pwm cable which in computer terms is pulse width modulaiton. not sure if that applies to the camera or like you said if the cg03 actually uses those wires, I will definitely let you know tonight !
@@Comicgamerkids That was 3 separate drones but 2 separate CGO 3s. My mistake. Both cameras tried in all 3 drones would pan only but not tilt. Do you still think both cameras are fried in the tilt response? Thanks very much for your time!
if you open up the cgo3 gimbal and there is a burning odor or visible burns near connections then it is definitely fried. The first one i had lose tilt needed a new board
I'm a little confused, but optimistic I'm not in big trouble - Please clarify - you state that the cables did nothing but you still soldered them and said that it's not advised for amateurs, can I just leave the wires disconnected?
The cables are a redundancy. You can leave the wires disconnected but you need to make sure that the loose wires are not touching and can in no way ever touch. The amps coming out of those things burnt some things for me already.
This post and the response was so helpful! I received this drone for my birthday, crashed it in 5 minutes, got it back repaired, crashed it in 5 minutes - this time I could easily repair the body with just a dab of superglue, however I thought I was screwed when it came to the gimble cables. Thanks to you - I am up and flying with full function!
Ive done this but now my gimbal is Making a loud humming noise, I believe this is the motors fighting to keep the camera stable, how can i calibrate it?
+RK Pictures the CG03 version does calibration at startup. CG02 can be calibrated through software. Leave the drone steady at startup and reboot. Try that a few times. If that doesn't work you may have a micro bridge between your tilt wire and power wire. Open it to check for micro solders.
Yeah I'm right now updating all firmwares. I haven't updated at all, just been using it out of the box. After that, I'll open up my CG03. I am thinking its the gimbals motors only because its similar to his sound, and also the gimbal doesn't make the sound when point down, only at every other axis.
After a recent crash I reassembled the camera and all seemed to be working fine....until I noticed the camera started swinging wildly side to side mid-flight and wouldn't stop. Had to land and grab by hand to get it to stop. Any ideas? TIA
1. you could try a calibration on level surface. 2. there might be a broken piece prevent the gimbal from moving all the day. opening it up if out of warranty and seeing if there is an obstruction might help.
+br011075 Do you mean the CGO2? If there are no pins then you will need to solder it back. Or see if there are redundant pads that you could solder the wires too
+br011075 if you botch the solder up it will cost like $150 for yuneec to fix it. If you are still under warranty they will probably cover the cable repair. A soldering iron will run about $25. I don't know if anyone has a video of the solder process but a guy posted his whole soldering steps on Yuneec Forums.
thank you so much for the info , also damage those wire on the back plate you mention. i've been searching online to buy, but they want to sell me a new camera. i tried it and it works. thanks you save me $
+Comic Gamer Kids Hey man, great vid. Yesterday I went snorkeling and found the typhoon q500 4K with a damaged camera. I watched this video and it helped me a lot . Thanks 4 the vid :)
i crashed my Chroma into a tombstone, a fitting death. It has, or had the CGO3 camera. I turn it on, the camera base LED blinks green-yellow-red, with synchronized audio beeps, the gimbal jerks slightly simultaneously with the beeps & LED. was hoping for some insight here, but yours is far from being destroyed...
I have seen on forums that jerky gimbals could be the result of plastic shards prevent the servos from moving the camera. Does the gimbal jerk on the Steadygrip?
the cgo3 isn't compatible with the steadygrip, I opened it some what looking for freyed wires, but didn't open totally, was too bummed out. i'll give it a few days and dig deeper. I'll look for shards, thanks.
really, i bought a steady grip sepparatly, the gimbal functioned, the tilt and video wifi didn't work, i called support whining, and they told me steady grip only supported cgo1 & 2, and they've discontinued support for the steadygrip... hmm
Just My luck...I got Electrocuted by 7200 Volts this past June now I'm Disabled but ALIVE!! I'm just glad that I was wearing a Helmet when I crashed LOL!!!!!!
I'm so lost, perhaps both (because after my first drone accident I purchased another) wires had come detached during the accidents. I picked up all my mess and swear I got all that was on the grass.. maybe I missed it twice.. nevertheless my flight operations are on hold till the wires are shipped out to me here in Hawaii.
These instructions do not appear to apply to the Typhoon G GB203 gimbal. My gimbal wires were severed, and I attempted to reconnect them to the drone and powered it up. A burning smell and smoke escaped the under body. I'm not sure what burnt up, but smoke is never good. So, either more is wrong with the gimbal board from the accident or the GB203 does rely on these wires somehow. Just sharing. Bummer.
+Jason Stebbing I believe they do apply. The important thing I have, and others, have found is that the gimbal needs to be opened to verify there no bridging is occurring from the broken wires. If the old power is shorted and then the gimbal is powered with the external cable, it may smoke.
my gimbal is lifeless on the drone and on the hand grip, i tried using the small wire but no luck no power is coming any help will be appreciated thank you mike
Mike Papadatos open the top portion of gimbal to see if your broken wires fried your board. Mine fried the 2nd time I crash. Look on eBay for return CGO3 gimbal/cameras. I bought 2 for $200 each.
So everthing what you are saing in the vidoe is right but in some cases it wont work. I had the same problem but not only the cables ripped out also on the spread board was an issue caused by the ripping out of the cables. Sorry for my englsich.
I'm From Dubai , recently i buy a Yuneec typhoon q500 4k drone i didn't fly that drone even one time , its drone is problem , I have problem with Yuneec typhoon q500 4k cgo3 wifi problem , Its not binding the camera wifi not showing in controller and i attached steady grip cgo3 camera its not showing wifi in mobiel the camera showing white light only its no response light any color changes , controller working gimbel and drone , the camera only not showing video in controller please help me
buying a new she'll seems like an easy fix, however for average people removing motors ,soldering and remembering where everything went, is not an easy task.
+Robert Peters I swapped all the parts and the wires from the ESC to the motor are so damn short. Those were the hardest. If you do choose to do this, take pictures of everything at every step
I know right. I completely destroyed the body of my Q500 and I was able to swap out the body for $50. Soldering was required but $50 is a pretty good deal.
damn i wish my typhoon body would break like that, go to the auto parts store get some epoxy is about 9 bucks or so and put that frame back together because those copters are prone to crashing.
1. make sure you are not in follow/watch me mode. Top left of St10 will specify. Also top right has a little Eye with brackets. 2. Is gimbal working before flight? 3. Do camera tilt functions work while drone is on the ground?
Those slide contacts on top of the gimbal housing connect to a compatible connection on the NEW Q500 4Ks with black motors. The cable housing is actually covered loosely with a rubber flao. That power source can be used for powering accessories you may want to add like LED lights or a second camera for FPV goggles.

The culprit:
Poor preflight calibration
I hooked it up to my laptop and saw that the drone thought it was moving. It also thought it was 30ft in the air.
When it was really at 30ft it thought it was at 60ft. Hitting "home" in this state will make the drone drop to what it thinks is 30ft....which is the ground
+PintoBlades maybe the gimbal?
I cannot thank you enough!!!! I almost threw up when I saw my camera separated from my q500 and the wire ripped out after a crash! This is the best information on the internet right now!!!!
+branden mullens thanks. Glad I could help
+DavidL Clark awesome. I'm glad I helped
Pro tip; Put two small ty-wraps trough the rubbers to prevent the gimbal from being ripped-off the drone completely when hetting a building or a tree.
Ok. I found the cable and I fixed it! What a relief. I only had two broken blades so not much damage. Thanks for the tip!
Awesome! Just crashed my drone and this was the first video...to make myself feel better about the mistake!
Derek Novaes hahaha. I learned a lot from this mistake
i wonder which method is new and which is old, i like the braided cables more.. it's like a security blanket!
Had a crash and basically your video reduced my stress...
+Inshan Ishmael that is great to hear
Great video and very informative. I ripped my gimbal off two of its rubber mounts but luckily, didn't rip any wires. One niggle though.....the word is so'L'der and not "Sodder"...otherwise carry on sir.
Howard Bull sorry I grew up in Hawaii and now have a habit of drop "L" sounds from words with LD in them. It's a bitch when talking to Alexa. Other words I have issues with: holder (hodor) and soldier (sojer)
Many thanks for this little video - I'd never have figured out those 3 wires without you!
It is very easy to prevent camera to mount detachment by using loosely installed small zip ties, string, or dental floss looped through the vibration mounts to prevent full separation. Whatever you use, they must not limit normal movement of the vibration mounts.
+Pat Notneeded I tried before I was a more experienced pilot. Those ripped off as well. They work fine now though
+sniperwolfjs wait so you are not sure if you wired it properly?
+Comic Gamer Kids Yes that is correct. I get power to the camera and shows green light and picture on the st10+ but no startup movement nor up and down with the controller. It just stays limp. I clipped the wires from the pcb board to the extra board mounted on top due to crash. Yeah I don't know correct wire placement. Motor wires on the bottom of board, motor control wires to right of board, and camera control + power on the left of board. Camera wires are in right spot. Other aren't. Thanks
+sniperwolfjs can you send some pictures to comicgamerkids@gmail.com
"Everything is easy when you know how." Thanks for showing us how to replace the gimbal, mount shocks.
I knew about the wire deal but it only works in tilt - not pan. I tried this same camera on my other 3 Q500 4k with same results - tilt only. Anyway, thanks for the best vid on this subject
I figured as much but the pcb is a little crowded. You saved me a lot of blood, sweat and cursing. Thanks!!
+Jeff Sanders That is awesome. Thanks
True. Yuneec actually did that to the one I got repaired. They also disconnected the shoe wires as well
Many thanks for publishing your video, it saved me a lot of time and hassle. Camera works like a champ.
+William Gomban Jr. Just noticed you were from Hawaii too. Waz up Hawaiian?
+William Gomban Jr. Just noticed you were from Hawaii too. Waz up Hawaiian?
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was afraid I'd have to pay $600 for another gimbal if I couldn't find the wiring diagram. Imagine my elation to find out those detached wires have no useful purpose! BTW for anyone reading this who has a Blade Chroma drone with the CGO3/4K w/3 axis gimbal... this is applicable.
Did you get your drone up and going?
+Comic Gamer Kids So, as you said, the wire is not critical. The camera worked fine without it. However, my tilt control was broke so I had to send it out to HH.
+Mark Libby I found that tilt control seems to blow fairly easily if there is the slightest of shorts during a crash
+Mark Libby I found that tilt control seems to blow fairly easily if there is the slightest of shorts during a crash
Comic Gamer Kids Yeah, seems like a scam to have to send it in for such a common repair.
Damn. if I knew that on the field.. I lost a shoot moment, for a friend wedding. Can't wait to go and try mine, to see if this will work. I have all 3 wire's, strapped of. Thanks.
I confirm. it's working for me. Those 3 wire, are useless.
Great video. It helped me out after I had crashed my Typhoon Q500 4k. My drone works fine and so does the camera.
life saver! was about to go through the bullshit of soldering it back together. now that I think about it, I remember a yuneec employee telling me about those 2 things doing the same thing but it completely vanished from my brain
Thanks is this the same for the GoPro version of the gimbal. Thanks great video very helpful.
+moeshickenyay I am not sure. But I imagine yuneec is cheap and the gimbals are the same
I hit a tree there is 4 wirs that come from the drone I need to reconnect them are you able to give me some advise on what wire does what?
4? you have a Q500 4k? where are wires from
They are actually connected to the top plate that slides up under that belly of the drone. That replacement wire will fix the problem I just replaced mine got it back together waiting for the battery to charge. Will take it up make sure the camera is working.
Does this help? The wires are meant to break in case of a crash. Do you have the extra camera wire in you accessory box?
Actually There is 3 wires. you need this part number to fix it
Part Number:YUNCGO3104
yeah the sliding harness is redundant
Im having a strange problem where the camera won't balance and I have lost control of it. I can't find any non-connected solder points. I also have an electrical background and am excellent at micro soldering, but I can't figure out where the issue is! please contact me if you would
yagedrums if you checked for loose connections on other camera boards, then smell it to see if it has been burnt.
Thank you, you just saved me so much time and money....I freaked when my wires pulled out..I think I much rather the braded wires be attached
great post. I solder 1 wire back myself and camera works. if I had seen this video first I would have cut the wires. lol.
Question, with the video repairing the typhoon camera 4k... Where did you get that wire that plugged to the chip to the drone body/ steady grip. I have purchased two typhoons one from best buy and the other from yuneec, neither boxes included that wire...
It came with the Q500 4K I purchased at B&h. In the included documents, it is listed as a power/control cable for the CGO3 camera.
Also it was already connected to camera before opening the box.
Crashed into a tree and the camera powers up and transmits, but the gimbal doesn't want to work. No up down od any kind of stabilization when I tilt etc. Could that from one of the three wires. It always had the separate cable and I've swapped that out.
Either motor obstruction or fry
I see from the Yuneec site I can either mail it in or take it in to Best Buy. Any idea if one is quicker than the other?
@@ChrisZwolinskiI sent it to Yuneec 2x and it was a 4 week turn around time. I haven't tried bestbuy. Also refurbs on eBay were only $200. I bought a couple there
To make sure I get this right... those 3 wires do literally nothing and as long as I have that connecting piece it will still work? Even without those 3 being connected?
kingofkards91 yes. The wires and hot shoe are redundant systems
thanks for putting this video on I have a typhoon g do i need them 3 wires put back as same thing happen to me today
+Adam Jackson you really need to make sure there is no frayed wires that could cause a short. Pop the top of the gimbal off and look at the board
thanks for the reply I've had a look and it seem ok inside so she'll I just remove the 3 wires than
Your statement concerning the three wires and the contacts on the gimbal is incorrect.
+Lou 1967 Thanks for watching. Which of my statements was incorrect so I can make a popup
Recently my Q500 went in the water
completely for about 5 seconds only. I did what I could to dry it and
remove all moisture.. It would not start. Only a small blue light visible
inside somewhere. Anyway I put it on my laptop gui app and every thing checked out ok except the 4 Speed controller.. Initialisation failed....
So my question is will I need new ESC's . Or could it be something else ( Motherboard ? ) The trouble here in South Australia is they charge a minimum of 4 hours
labor at $35.00per hour before they even do anything.. $140.00 b4 I start! Not fair really.
Any way I hope you can help a bit. Even where could I buy these parts if
I do need them .
The main board is $160
Each ESC is $30.
Each Motor is also $30
Thank you very much . ;-)
When flying in smart mode, does your altitude and speed display correctly? Angle mode appears to be fine, but a lot of people are having issues with smart mode. Just curious if you've experienced this as well.
I had too many near misses in Smart Mode and have since stopped flying in that mode. I will check it out the next time I fly though.
i just had my first crash and the wires came off, unfortunetly when use thr gimbal with the other cable, i still get a picture but the camera wont "move" when i turn it around.. any idea ? did something else break ?
+Lars M If the camera stabilizes via gimbal but doesn't tilt then it could be a loose wire.
If the camera doesn't stabilize then there was most like a short once the cables broke loose
Thanks a lot man! I repaired by this way but it couldn't transmit image when I using Steady Grip.
But on Q500 is good for work.
Mac0908 that is weird. The 5ghz video transmitter is on the camera right? Is the steadygrip powering the camera but you don't get signal?
Yes, that sooo weird! Cuz Steadygrip powering CGO3 and balancing already, but without video signal. lol
Thank you!, From the three wires that you connect to the drone body, do you have any idea which one is VCC, GND...?
I believe it goes as follows:
A ~ GND
B ~ VCC
C ~ PWM
Thank you. How do you know which one is A B C, do they label it?
@@nemorotatory no but I think hot is in the middle
Love the description of your crash, the exact same thing happened to me too, thanks for the video, lots of helpful insight :D
Thanks.
This goes for the go-pro gimbal too. Nice job
I've got the same problem but I can't seem to find that braided cable, any idea where I could get one?
I could put the link in the comments but I updated the video description with the link to Carolina DronZ website
Correction. There are some Q500 and Typhoon that has terminal contacts on top of the CG03 gimbal mount. I have one that does. I also used the farmiliar jack below the belly as
an auxillary power connect. It puts out 12v in the 2 close wires at plug on the jack.
Unfortunately the CGO3+ doesn't have the cable plug wires. It relies on the wires soldered in.
Can someone please tell me what to use to put the rubber .. bags ? back onto the shoe plate ? small forceps or something ? Mine decided to crash while in home mode and only one of the wires popped.
out. Thanks very much and great video
+Reece Werenka I push them through with my hands. One edge first and then roll the rest through
Awesome thanks I will throw some electrical tape on that one wire that popped out .. I connected it to the steady grip and it seemed like it was functioning without that wire. Thanks again !
+Reece Werenka does the tilt work.
Tried this on 3 Typhoons with those 3 tiny broken wires. All cameras would work but no pan & tilt? They were bound. Thanks for any idea!
the tilt portion of your board are probably fried and you will need it sent out
@@Comicgamerkids All three Typhoons? Thanks anyway.
@@billcallahan9303 3 separate gimbal cameras?
@@Comicgamerkids That was 3 separate drones but 2 separate CGO 3s. My mistake. Both cameras tried in all 3 drones would pan only but not tilt. Do you still think both cameras are fried in the tilt response? Thanks very much for your time!
if you open up the cgo3 gimbal and there is a burning odor or visible burns near connections then it is definitely fried. The first one i had lose tilt needed a new board
so would you recommend me putting some tape on those wires instead of trying them back
+Terry Moore Taping the broken wires and using the external cables will save you the hassle of having to solder it
Comic Gamer Kids thank you for your help I enjoyed your videos
+Terry Moore thanks
Thanks to you - I am up and flying with full function!
does this also apply to the typhoon G gimbal? or do I need the 3 wires connected?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! You saved me from a LOT of tears!
+Vincent Tafoya glad I could help.
+Vincent Tafoya glad I could help.
And now....what to do if you have the previous Q500 4K with silber motors and a gimbal without those 3 pins?
+br011075 Do you mean the CGO2? If there are no pins then you will need to solder it back. Or see if there are redundant pads that you could solder the wires too
Thanks. Do you know a manual or RUclips movie where you can see how to solder the cables back?
+br011075 if you botch the solder up it will cost like $150 for yuneec to fix it.
If you are still under warranty they will probably cover the cable repair.
A soldering iron will run about $25.
I don't know if anyone has a video of the solder process but a guy posted his whole soldering steps on Yuneec Forums.
Thanks. Which Yuneec Forum?
yuneec-forum.com/
thank you so much for the info , also damage those wire on the back plate you mention. i've been searching online to buy, but they want to sell me a new camera. i tried it and it works. thanks you save me $
Thanks for the video, I thought I'd trashed my drone but all good now, Thank you
thank you for posting!
you are welcome
+Scarakus My drone came with a CGO3 and a steadygrip.
really, i bought a steady grip sepparatly, the gimbal functioned, the tilt and video wifi didn't work, i called support whining, and they told me steady grip only supported cgo1 & 2, and they've discontinued support for the steadygrip... hmm
I thought the Typhoon H comes with a Steady Grip
Hello I have the H and crashed it now I have wires broken from the board and also the red and black wires on the camera. Can I get a board replacement?
+scott wilson The cgo boards are synced to the camera at the factory.
Unfortunately you can't just replace the board. It is a stupid system
Just My luck...I got Electrocuted by 7200 Volts this past June now I'm Disabled but ALIVE!! I'm just glad that I was wearing a Helmet when I crashed LOL!!!!!!
+scott wilson what were you flying?
Yuneec Typhoon H
Just Kidding about the Helmet Sorry
That is how it reads the gyro!? I dont use the plug as thats just for people to use the camera if those were to break off or with another system
I'm so lost, perhaps both (because after my first drone accident I purchased another) wires had come detached during the accidents. I picked up all my mess and swear I got all that was on the grass.. maybe I missed it twice.. nevertheless my flight operations are on hold till the wires are shipped out to me here in Hawaii.
so the only wires on your gimbal are the ones hardwired to the chil? Nothing is removable?
+Mario Cobian I just took the whole body apart. The cable I have on my camer is also located internally. You can purchase the cable online.
once you change the slip CGO3+ SLIP RING do you need to recalibrate with special software?
No
These instructions do not appear to apply to the Typhoon G GB203 gimbal.
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what needs repair now. I'll have to give Yuneec support a call tomorrow.
Those three wires that attach to the top contact plates are for the SteadyGrip connection.
have you had an issue where the camera works but will not look down?
+Danger Drone yes. When that happens their is a possibility the board responsible for tilt is fried.
+Comic Gamer Kids good news, I used the external power cable and the camera functions 100%.
Just saved me $300, thanks so much man!!!!!!
Thank you!!! Saved me buying a new camera today!!
great video, but sure would like to see the video of crash...
this video is very helpful but this connection is not for outdated model, more for newer models like typhoon h.
my gimbal is lifeless on the drone and on the hand grip, i tried using the small wire but no luck no power is coming
any help will be appreciated
thank you
mike
Mike Papadatos open the top portion of gimbal to see if your broken wires fried your board. Mine fried the 2nd time I crash.
Look on eBay for return CGO3 gimbal/cameras. I bought 2 for $200 each.
So everthing what you are saing in the vidoe is right but in some cases it wont work. I had the same problem but not only the cables ripped out also on the spread board was an issue caused by the ripping out of the cables.
Sorry for my englsich.
You are correct. If the frayed wires blows the gimbal board, the external cable will not work.

Looks like this guy gives better customer service than Yuneec in some cases I can see why you have 1.5K SUBS Comic Gamer Kids.
acrylitearon thanks
buying a new she'll seems like an easy fix, however for average people removing motors ,soldering and remembering where everything went, is not an easy task.
+Robert Peters I swapped all the parts and the wires from the ESC to the motor are so damn short. Those were the hardest.
If you do choose to do this, take pictures of everything at every step
Ok something happened to me yesterday. The gimbal fell off and three wires hanging. Where did you get the cable? That would be amazing! Thanks
Horizonhobbies.com, Yuneec and amazon had it
@@Comicgamerkids I ordered a extra one from Amazon

Great video man... lots of good information.
+Maco Ruiz thank you
lol,, great post gotta love it,, I love Yuneec, even when it breaks,,, it didn't,,,
I know right. I completely destroyed the body of my Q500 and I was able to swap out the body for $50. Soldering was required but $50 is a pretty good deal.
My 2016 model the wire is gone,no more plug not the body .the camera slides on with clips. Nice
+LARRY D everyone's cameras slides on with clips. Wires tear moment your gimbal separates from the clip.
Bro that kid born tommorow
What is the name of the camera cable that connects to the drone..? Please
CG03 data cable I believe
Thanks
saved my life, thank you so much
NICE!!!!! GREAT INFORMATION.
Thanks
Thank you Sir! Saved me some frustration.
damn i wish my typhoon body would break like that, go to the auto parts store get some epoxy is about 9 bucks or so and put that frame back together because those copters are prone to crashing.
Check your motor Mounts as well.
i soldered the wires back on and when i fly it the gimbal goes all hay wire and it tilts the camera all the way to one side. What do I do?!?
1. make sure you are not in follow/watch me mode. Top left of St10 will specify. Also top right has a little Eye with brackets.
2. Is gimbal working before flight?
3. Do camera tilt functions work while drone is on the ground?
