Dude, that Brom artwork is so emotive, and the sculptor did such a great job capturing it in the model. And then you brought it all together so nicely, great job man
I painted my first larger miniature about a year ago and I absolutely loved every minute of it , it's a bit Daunting at first but when you start you don't wanna stop
I met Brom years ago when I worked for Ral Partha at a Gen Con. Hes a really nice guy. Loved his artwork. Their was a Brom figure kit made a long time ago by Rafam. I think I may still have a copy somewhere. Was metal and very heavy. These look really nice in resin. Funny about Partents and the Hobby, My Mom has always been my biggest supporter in all this from when I was 14 to now at 59 :) If I make it back home this summer, Love to have lunch with you and Mr. Haney. Don is an old friend.
Well, that always makes me puzzled. What is a spouse suppose to do then? Trail 3 feet behind and be a handyperson all the time with no life of their own? Weirdness....
Really inspiring to see this video. I recently bought a 3D printer and are about to print some busts that I am going to give my family for Christmas, and they will be my first large scale projects. Looking forward to painting them!
That looks so cool! 😊 I've painted both smaller & larger figures and it really depends. I'm working my way through a lot of Steamforged Games' Epic Encounters sets (we're a D&D household, not a Warhammer one). I had more fun painting the Shrine of the Kobold Queen set than the accompanying Lair of the Red Dragon. The red dragon was really cool, and I love how the loot pile turned out in particular, but it was a pain in the butt to paint. I have at least one literal scar from being scratched by a wing. The set of 20 kobolds on the other hand were just adorable, such evil red Smurf energy everywhere. On the other hand, I struggled to paint the Village of the Goblin Chief set while the Swamp of the Hydra was a lot of fun. The hydra had so many details that were fun & I added a bunch of stuff to the base (I entered it in the Arcadian Brush competition at PAX Unplugged. It didn't win but it was fun because a lot of people commented that they love hydras, liked what I did with it, etc). The set of about 20 goblins was a slog, except for the flail snail which was just too cute. I appreciated the humor of the berserker goblins who were running into battle while licking frogs to get high, but even those kind of drove me nuts. If someone handed me a really cool large figure, I would 100% dive in. 😊
very cool to see the objective control sponsership! their first kickstarter produced some amazing products that ive been stoked to use in my games. for sure will be checking out the new kickstarter, following these guys work closely! super cool model, and fantastic work as always. will have to check that kickstarter out as well
Man, working on that Golden demon entry really leveled up your painting. You seem to have a way better grasp of light, colors and values now. Great result again here! I do love painting other models than GW stuff. 75mm is a great scale to learn and improve on. I also did a speedpainting competition a couple months ago and they gave us an orc bust to paint. I was never interested in busts, but after painting it, I am way more interested. You can concentrate on different parts of the models, It's such a nice change of pace!
Any recommendations on some good brands to look for 75mm miniatures but priced more in line with what an amateur would be willing to “attempt” painting? I love the Brom stuff but would never want to lay paint to it out of fear of not doing it justice
Gorgeous, stunning paint job! I love that, other than priming, this was done with all brushwork. Thanks for showing what can be achieved without an airbrush.
Thanks for bringing attention to the BROM kickstarter! Completely slipped my attention. I will also definitely be backing the Objective CTRL campaign when it goes live. All in all a great (but ultimately expensive) video 🤣
Jon, could you please paint something from Daybreak Miniatures, Dragon Trappers lodge, White Werewolf Tavern or Archvillain Games. I have bought many of their amazing models in 55mm and 75mm, like Alice the Maniac, Turtle-Folk Fungus Warrior, Shadowblade Assassin and Niel the elf warrior. Niel is a magnificent model and only cost me AU$25 for a 75mm model with a gorgeous big base. Etsy is such good value for money if you buy from a local store. Thanks Sensei. 🙏🏻
In fact, the busts from Daybreak Miniatures are incredible! They're usually 75mm too so pretty big with huge amounts of detail and a nice plinth. For A$25 each from an Aussie seller they feel like very good value to me. I highly recommend them.
I enjoy watching you paint. I don't make miniatures, either. I make digital 3d figures. A lot of practices are the same, I just do them in substance! This is a gorgeous figure, and I'm really enjoying the paint process!
I’m preparing to give a try with big model for the first time. In this video there were some really nice advices and also you painted it dark and I love it. One of the biggest advices so far was to use just couple paints to make model look more cohesive. That reminds me those color cubes you was presenting in other videos. Will have to try it also as I always struggle to pick color scheme and triad system from Army painter seemed always as a go to solution. But now you show that we dont need 6x6 paints, we need just 6 plus black and white.
Loving your work. This video really resonated with me. Blood Bowl and 40K occupy my paint desk. Gonna crack out a big model on the 3D printer and give myself a fun challenge 🤟
I've just finished a 12" Abaddon Statue from Forge World "back in the day" when they did such things, and it's made me realise that I really enjoy working on the larger figure. It's both more forgiving but also more expressive in what I was able to achieve.
I've recently been trying out Liquites heavy body acrylics. On terrain to start with. It's surprisingly easier to use than most other hobby paints. I'm happy with the results at least. I also build and paint Gunpla. I like the larger format and kitbashing.
Long time painter here, almost three decades. I have a 3D printer that I’ve found to be a great success augmenting tabletop minis… the thought of a larger model felt incredibly intimidating but just as alluring. I think I will take a chance and trust the process.
I'm what I would call an army painter the biggest thing I've painted before was a coalassal from privateer press ( about 5-6 ish inch tall models for use on the table) well recently I bit the bullet and now I have a 22inch tall Karlock sitting on my desk waiting for paint and I'm working on getting the nerve to start slapping that paint on and this video is helping to motivate me to get started on her, thanks and great video Ninjon :)
I’ve only been painting for two years but started with painting some Mythic Legions Action figures, and now want to get into painting miniatures. It’s kinda funny that I’m doing sort of the reverse steps from big to small scale, but it’s definitely fun to see how techniques apply to both large and small scale. Also, that Frankenstein monster definitely needs to go into a painting competition, I could see it taking first place
This resonates with me. There is something satisfying about painting a larger figure. In my case the paint is more forgiving when it comes to blending or shading for a 72mm or higher than on a 32mm or 28mm. Also on a larger scale model you might not have so much pressure on yourself to paint more precisely because you have more freedom and space on a bigger mini. Long story short, just have fun with whatever you paint regardless of the size but do give larger minis a try if you never tried it.
I was never really into Warhammer to begin with, i followed you mostly for the really awesome painting videos, but my miniatures of choice are Battletech mechs because i love the universe. Coupled with a ton of friends who are into Warhammer but wanted something different - there is a ton to explore outside of Warhammer and if you love painting beautiful minis of people, there are sooooo many to choose from. So paint what you want - I'll still watch
I've come to enjoy larger models far more than miniatures lately. So much so that I've started scanning all of my Death Guard models so that I can turn them into STLs and 3D print them at larger scales. It's been a TON of fun.
Jon this looks awesome. I have a bust of Astarion from BG3 I am painting for my wife (her favorite character) and I am struggling with making the skin look good but this is helping me adjust how I look at it and how I plan on approaching it tonight. Keep up the amazing vids!
Excellent video as always. I wasn't aware of Mindwork Studios until you mentioned them in your Adepticon video earlier this year. As a result I took a look at their website was amazed by the minis they produce specifically the ones based upon the artwork of Frank Frazetter and of course Brom. I've always wanted a miniature of Elric so I ordered the Display Edition of the Black Sword miniature (the artwork for which iyou included in the video). A miniature I wouldn't have known existed if it hadn't been for you mentioning them in March. Thank you.
I have a bust that's been waiting primed and ready for more than a year that I find too intimidating to just start painting and figuring things out as I go. I needed exactly this kind of video. Thanks!
After painting my first bust I think I enjoy display painting more than painting for the tabletop. Bigger pieces are amazing for showcasing more technique!
yeah i`m totally on that page. I`ve been wanting to paint a 55ml figure for ages but a mixture of layness maybe fear keeps me from printing one and doing it.
The biggest problem of all kickstarter projects is the release date. Looking on these models I'd paint at leas half of them, but it's because I see the model and I'm greatly inspired at the moment. Sadly, while waiting for release, quite often fire in your heart goes down and you don't feel the same satisfaction as it was when you was motivated with pledging the campaign. The last model I've got in a such way was absolutely freaking awesome goblins gang that I had to wait for approximately for about half a year. But, yes, this Mindwork line is really great. It gives life to fascinating models and allows us today to make heroes of our childhood to became more real than we could imagine about 20-30 years ago.
For me it's always PRIMAL Collectibles, those series of figurea are absolutely top notch. Not only the sculpts themselves are excellent, but there were also clearly made with painting in mind, because it's a pure joy to paint them.
Beautiful piece. I looked at the Brom Kickstarter but it's too rich for my blood. I did just start working with resin miniatures and am looking for a good glue, so I will try that one you mentioned.
tried painting a large model for the first time recently, and really didn't like how it was going so I stopped this makes me want to go back and give it another shot.
I've been working on a giant 13 inch tall dragon that's designed like a betta fish. Its been a huge task to paint and I've ashamedly been putting it off. I have all the base layers done. I just need to paint the finer details.
I'm really hesitant on kickstarters. The last one you recommended that I got in on (broken anvils forged collection) looks like they aren't going to be delivering.
I picked up the Ghoul Queen bust... last year? Two years ago? Eeesh... Either way, I have a Brom art book with the painting in it that I'm planning to use as a reference source. I did a zombie bust in a similar manner and it was a lot of fun.
My channel has very few warhammer painting becuase there way too many out there already... my channel paints all sorts of other stuff, board game miniatures, d&d miniatures and more. But i wanted to paint warhammer just to get more viewers but i realized i didn't really like painting armies and specially space marines. Great video and awesome paint job @ninjon.
I haven't painted anything large yet but I've been planning to soon. One question: where do you get those copper corner weights for your wet palette? I can't remember if I saw it in a previous gear vid you did, but I can't find it in the links in the description, and I might be searching the wrong terms but I'm not finding it easy elsewhere either.
I started my painting journey a decade ago by painting board game models. Over the past 2 years I've discovered that I really like painting busts and li'l guys. I 3d print and get my busts from multiple places, but I really like Bite the Bullet for my li'l guys. I swear I'm not a shill, their models just have so much personality! If others here have some creators to suggest for "li'l guys" please comment them! I'm always on the look out for some silly little models that may get a smile out of others. I find if I can't mentally picture a paint scheme for a model, it'll never get done; it almost never ends up as that exact scheme BUT I get paint on the model and then the model tells me how it really wants to be painted.
I mainly paint bigger models as i was never in to playing warhammer and while i do play dnd models are loosely used (mostly just to have a rough idea of positioning ) so i just have always just painted to paint. I have no real set scale as since 3d print most things nowadays i play with size quite often scaling minis up or scaling statues down
Have to admit, I walked away from Warhammer/WH40k just before the turn of this century, and lately have started just buying figures that catch my eye/imagination and painting them for myself/fun. I now have an entire army of "Tree-men" made up entirely of Disney Skylander Tree-Rex figures, and a growing force of giant Dwarf battle Golems (With BIG hammers) made up entirely of Disney Skylanders figures, too. I now prefer to just collect fun forces/armies for my own amusement, putting together figures from many different areas and just adding a spot colour to keep to the theme of my new force. I write my own fantasy/sci-fi fiction, so many of the minis are actually used to base characters and story-lines around, which just adds to the fun of combining two of my hobbies. I would LOVE to get the new Brom inspired minis, but have enough in my pile of shame to last me a few lifetimes already, and my hobby space looks like something from the Hoarders TV series 😊 Then again, I may just go for the Brom figures anyway, as I've loved his artwork in 2D for many years, and having the 3D artwork to not only look at, but handle/paint is seriously getting my creative juices flowing. I love how you paint the Frankenstein model here, and seeing how you mix the paints is a joy to behold, as well as seeing the finished model. Truly inspiring, and one of the many reasons why this hobby never gets "old" for me, even after being in it for over 50 years now. I'd love to see how you paint the other figures in this set, and how they look next to each other when finished (Hint, hint 😉).
I want to try a large piece so bad! I’ve been looking into the 72mm Baldur’s Gate pieces floating around on Etsy. I’d love a challenge suggestion that I can study and document my progress.
Don't forget to check out the Objective Ctrl Kickstarter! www.kickstarter.com/projects/objectivectrl/precision-miniature-magnets-thematic-game-aids
You can see just how much your work has improved over the years and your work was great already
Thank you so much Jon! Your work is inspirational and it is an honor to sponsor you. Wonderful video! Large scale models are a real joy to paint!!
You are very friendly and teacher friendly, great job😊
Dude, that Brom artwork is so emotive, and the sculptor did such a great job capturing it in the model. And then you brought it all together so nicely, great job man
the moment you said "sad clown" I couldn't unsee it. amazingly painted sad clown though

I'm happy you were supported. I'm working on opening a local game store and my mom thinks I'm gonna be selling computer games.... *Facepalm*.
My goodness that looks incredible. Especially the environment of the piece, imo. wow.
My parents aren’t mad about my warhammer collection…but my wife is.
Your wife is made of Warhammer minis?!
@@karlthemadscientist6295 no you idiot, shes a made woman like in the mafia
Never told my wife how much money I spend on my hobby. 😊
Same but she knows I work hard .
Well, that always makes me puzzled. What is a spouse suppose to do then? Trail 3 feet behind and be a handyperson all the time with no life of their own? Weirdness....

Sir... You are blessed!

It's a joy to watch you really get to play with this larger scale model!!! and what a beautiful paint job!
I'm not sure which video I heard your advice on UV Resin to fill gaps, but I want to thank you. THANK YOU! This has made my life so much easier.
I feel like an idiot for never thinking of UV resin to fill gaps in miniatures.
It's kind of genius...
This is great. The subtle stage lighting on the pillars is my favourite bit.
Loving your work. This video really resonated with me. Blood Bowl and 40K occupy my paint desk. Gonna crack out a big model on the 3D printer and give myself a fun challenge 🤟
I literally just started painting my first large scale model two days ago. Wild timing on this video! I'm painting Miniac's Duchess!
This is a beautiful paintjob, we see really well the intentions you put in your painting.
That highlight worked out beautifully in that piece, nice job
I've just finished a 12" Abaddon Statue from Forge World "back in the day" when they did such things, and it's made me realise that I really enjoy working on the larger figure. It's both more forgiving but also more expressive in what I was able to achieve.
Looks great, this was my favorite sculpt from the KS I think
Dude, what an awesome paint job! I love it! Thanks for sharing! I always enjoy watching your videos!
Everytime I see one of your paints, I think to myself: fuck this guy is good.
I really like these types of videos. I have enjoyed trying out this style of painting ever since you did that Samurai rabbit.
you really nailed the atmosphere of the original art, nice job.
I've recently been trying out Liquites heavy body acrylics. On terrain to start with. It's surprisingly easier to use than most other hobby paints. I'm happy with the results at least. I also build and paint Gunpla. I like the larger format and kitbashing.
I think Brom would've been proud of that paintjob. Brilliantly done and love the 'don't sweat it' advice you gave. Awesome. Thank you )O(
Long time painter here, almost three decades. I have a 3D printer that I’ve found to be a great success augmenting tabletop minis… the thought of a larger model felt incredibly intimidating but just as alluring. I think I will take a chance and trust the process.
Another amazing video! Another amazing paintjob!
I would love to see more videos that like painting big models. Keep making these!
It's so beautiful and a brilliant piece of artwork!
Thank you thank you. I’m a huge fan of Brom and his work is indescribably good
Nice to see a display mini on the channel!
That looks amazing! Ive yet to try painting a big figure but this got me excited to do it.
Amazing job on this one mate, love it!👏👏👏
This resonates with me. There is something satisfying about painting a larger figure. AWESOME! Funnily enough I have just started working on busts. I just needed a break from the smaller stuff.
sick paintjob. Good job, Jon
Jon this looks awesome. I have a bust of Astarion from BG3 I am painting for my wife (her favorite character) and I am struggling with making the skin look good but this is helping me adjust how I look at it and how I plan on approaching it tonight. Keep up the amazing vids!
Have you ever been to the MMSI-military miniatures society of Tllinois?they have a growing minis category,it is every October
1:26 did not know that Brom did the Diablo II cover! Man, that game had its hooks in me.
Excellent video as always.

What an amazing interpretation!!! 👏🏽
I frigging love Brom artwork; these are stunning sculpts. I never do Kickstarters but might have to check this one out.
When you said Large Model. I was hoping for a 1/6th scale - But you still did an amazing job with this! Kudos !!!!
I have a bust that's been waiting primed and ready for more than a year that I find too intimidating to just start painting and figuring things out as I go. I needed exactly this kind of video. Thanks!
That paint job looks awesome
After painting my first bust I think I enjoy display painting more than painting for the tabletop. Bigger pieces are amazing for showcasing more technique!
I've got 2 75mm models that intimidate me. I've set them on my shelf and look forward to painting them... One day.
Another great video. Would love a video on your post painting , how you do your photo shoot pictures. Thanks.
Definitely more. Always remember that Lincoln could have sent a fax to his samurai friends via the pony express
You should do another big sculpture but with a random card from the color cube.
Would really appreciate if you'd speak more about recipes for color mixing.
yeah i`m totally on that page.
I have just been painting a bust from the first time, it was really fun and I must say I think I did a fine job for my level.
Incredible work
I would love to see you take on a 1/8th or 1/4 scale model sometime!
tried painting a large model for the first time recently, and really didn't like how it was going so I stopped this makes me want to go back and give it another shot.
This sad clown turned out absolutely amazing Jonny Boi!!!
I've been working on a giant 13 inch tall dragon that's designed like a betta fish.
Its been a huge task to paint and I've ashamedly been putting it off. I have all the base layers done. I just need to paint the finer details.
What are those metal things in the wet palette and where can I pick those up?
I'm really hesitant on kickstarters. The last one you recommended that I got in on (broken anvils forged collection) looks like they aren't going to be delivering.
Was that skull bowl on top of the desk a Trevor Foster piece?
Jason at monument hobbies just did a big sale on large minis for his birthday last week... hmmmm quite a convenient time to post a video like this 😂
I picked up the Ghoul Queen bust... last year? Two years ago? Eeesh...
Either way, I have a Brom art book with the painting in it that I'm planning to use as a reference source. I did a zombie bust in a similar manner and it was a lot of fun.

Damn. Nice job Jon.
I really enjoyed painting Magnus the Red compared to the smaller stuff.
This is bloody incredible
14:29 I feel like Sam would have a good time wetblending with thicker paints like these.
Beautiful rendition of the figure
Which UV light do you recommend to cure the resin?
I haven't painted anything large yet but I've been planning to soon.
One question: where do you get those copper corner weights for your wet palette? I can't remember if I saw it in a previous gear vid you did, but I can't find it in the links in the description, and I might be searching the wrong terms but I'm not finding it easy elsewhere either.
Gimme that "Commence the slapping" merch
You might have answered this before but where did you get your lighted display shelves. Those are sick.
I started my painting journey a decade ago by painting board game models. Over the past 2 years I've discovered that I really like painting busts and li'l guys. I mainly paint bigger models as i was never in to playing warhammer and while i do play dnd models are loosely used (mostly just to have a rough idea of positioning ) so i just have always just painted to paint. I have no real set scale as since 3d print most things nowadays i play with size quite often scaling minis up or scaling statues down
I have never painted a large scale model. I have some that I've always wanted to paint. But I've always been too afraid to try.
Everything is perfect👍👍
I've had a nice Predator bust primed on my desk for about a year... Guilty...
Those objective markers are cool but do they slip? The reason I love neoprene ones is the friction they have on the mat.
I never have painted larger than 32mm or 1/48 scale. This model reminds me of "Mien Hertz Brennt" by Rammstiem
Looks amazing. Did you paint the back?
way ahead of you there. I’ve been checking out Xenos Rampant, model agnostic game system. Reviewed to be a bit more crunchy than OnePageRules.
I would LOVE to get the new Brom inspired minis, but have enough in my pile of shame to last me a few lifetimes already, and my hobby space looks like something from the Hoarders TV series 😊
Then again, I may just go for the Brom figures anyway, as I've loved his artwork in 2D for many years, and having the 3D artwork to not only look at, but handle/paint is seriously getting my creative juices flowing.
I love how you paint the Frankenstein model here, and seeing how you mix the paints is a joy to behold, as well as seeing the finished model.
Truly inspiring, and one of the many reasons why this hobby never gets "old" for me, even after being in it for over 50 years now.
I'd love to see how you paint the other figures in this set, and how they look next to each other when finished (Hint, hint 😉).
looks like you opened a store with all that goodness
I want to try a large piece so bad! I’ve been looking into the 72mm Baldur’s Gate pieces floating around on Etsy. I’d love a challenge suggestion that I can study and document my progress.
