- Today I take my 2023 MK8 Volkswagen Golf R 20th Anniversary to the drag strip! We ran up against a 10-Speed Mustang GT, a Stage 1 034 Tuned 2022 8Y Audi S3, and a Shelby GT350. Overall, I'm very impressed with my STOCK Golf R!

Hey man, idk if you realized it but I think some of your launches are too abrupt; I know my MK8 takes a second or so to fully build boost for launch control (only reason I keep the "boost gauge" on, to make sure its at 100%)

Stock my S3 did 12.8 @ 107. But weather was 68*. So far I’m Stage 1 93 (No TCU available), best is a 12.1 @ 114 in 75* weather!

I’m excited to get mine and when it’s available I wanna go stage 2 e85. I’m sure these cars can run mid to low 11s no problem stock turbo

Did you notice a slight loss in power between the first and second gear shift when launching in Nurburgring mode? I’ve only launched mine twice in that mode but feel like the 1->2 shift lost some power compared to launching in Race mode.
I’ll have to look into that more
I haven't noticed any loss of power between first and second, but since I got tuned to Uni Stage 1 + my car does hesitate a bit once it launches, I assume to prevent wheel hop. Really ruins my 60ft when it does that.
From what I've noticed, my fastest passes were with Nurburgring mode engaged compared to Race mode.
@@TW-ld6qh good to know! I don’t have a draggy so my two launched in Nurburgring mode could’ve actually been faster than race. Is your 60’ time slower than stock? Or is it just not quite as quick as it could be?

What was the DA? On cooler nights I’m always in the 12.4-12.5 at 108-109 mph trap and my 60 foot is 1.81. Pretty nice to see a S3 tuned vs stock R run
I’m not sure what the DA was that night but the time was definitely not great because I was able to do much better on the street dragy verified.
@@JVette01 Yup. Not gonna lie when I got my 12.4 at the drag strip it was 47F and DA was only 400 so yea that helps a lot

Nice, that guy in a mustang must be upset and impressed by the golf r, imagine with a tune, that stock mustang would be left in the dust, s3 is kinda like a golf r just different body style and etc, golf r looks better in my opinion. If it was cooler weather, i mean it was night time, it would probably do 12.4 or 12.3 at 110 or 111 thats my guess. a tune will probably break it into high 11's, the golf r defintely punches above its class and i would have it over a focus rs and type r anyday of the week

@JVette01 yeah, the type r would be better on the track but for dailying, golf r takes it all the way, can't wait to see what you'll do with this car going forward, I've seen mk7 apr stage 3 golf r's run mid 10's in a quarter, supercar territory right there, it's crazy what these things are capable of, but yeah I'm sure with a few mods this thing would smoke cars it shouldnt. Still an amazing car, probably in my opinion second best to the r32 golf mk4 and mk5 but yeah. This gen of golf has been amazing.
GT350 is a much faster all around car..that trap speed is good for low to mid 12's..he must have been spinning all through 1st and 2nd
There was a mk8 R at wild horse in Phoenix when i went recently and he did 12.6 @ 108. He said it was stock except for intake. My is38 GTI with a Unitronic tune did 12.4 @ 111 on slicks which was a disappointment. Their tune doesnt stack up. The launch control is laggy so the best 60' it would do with a dead hook was 1.97 and the slicks at 8 psi killed my trap speed too. But it was a fun night.
Badass runs man, I'll tell you that Stage 1 will really get you moving! Best run for me was 11.86 to 12.05 on the 1/4.

Trap speed was about 115. I have the Unitronic Stage 1+ ECU/TCU, everything else is stock.
That’s nice! Might have to look into that once I can finally tune my TCU 😭

My 2022 Golf R stage 2 Unitronic w/TCU tune just went 11.64@119mph at the track last night. Ran three times, all 11.6XX. I beat 5.0 Mustang, tuned Elantra N, and lost to a 10.1 sec pro charged 5.0 Mustang

What is the altitude at that track? It sucks you only get 91 octane
I think the altitude is around 2000ft
You need slicks on back of mustangs , 10 speed would destroy golf r on quarter but good video
Yeah it just goes to show you in the real world, your average mustang GT on stock tires will get beat from a dig with a golf r
@JVette01 only in a 60 ft. Tbh the 10 speed should walk a mk8R after the 8th mile. They're supposed to trap no less than 118mph so I'm surprised you beat one trapping 12.8 at 104
It all depends on traction. If a mustang GT can get traction, then absolutely it will beat a 315hp golf.

What are you talking about the mustang trapped over 10 mph more than the golf lol. On a roll it wouldnt even be close. Only reason the mustang et was higher was because of traction issues. Not even a tuned golf r can touch a stock 10 speed gt in a roll

Why is it that in every single video I ever watch on the Mk8 Golf R, literally no one uses the Special Nurburgring mode? Everyone always just keeps it in race. It's there for a reason, guys.
If you watched the full video you’ll know I did a run in Nurburgring mode too. It didn’t change anything.
Congrats on that GOLF R Jvette. I was very busy for the last 2 months and just saw you sold your MK8 GTi and bought MK8 R. Last month I bought a Tesla M3 Performance. My son's Stage 1 DSG MK8 GTi can't keep up with it. :)He said, that he will be working hard and be saving for MK8 GOLF R now. Do you think MK8 R tuned Stage 1 or 2 can match Tesla M3P in 1/4 mile? I am running 11.52 / 116.5 stock with my draggy on -0.32% slope with those heavy stock 20 inch wheels and allseason Michelin PS4
MAYBE stage 2 e85 can but teslas are very hard to beat
@@JVette01 Saw a guy run his TM3P 11.174 at 122.93 mph. He swapped to 18 inch wheels and PS4S tires. Removed the seats and front /rear trunk liners. Insane. I am not doing this. 11.5 is fast enough. :)

@@JVette01 yep with the white interior! Zachary is his name. He brought in the Kia… thank you guys for helping him out. Was telling him to go up there a while ago before he got the Kia to hit up Ford! Nobody can really beat them, just the best service and the best service department in Vegas for a vehicle. Chill people….. what’s crazy is he wanted the Golf R lol and you out her smashing people with it. Sad to see it’s a Mustang but good ish cause I didn’t expect that from that mini lambo

@@JVette01it must be suck weather over there because his 60 ft was 2.2 which is kinda bad. But he still should have blew by you after the 8th mile. My 14 gt went 12.4 at 112 with a passenger and exhaust in the trunk . Which is actually what advertisers post stock mk8R times (12.3 at 112) ...a 10 speed gt over here is doing low 12s high 11s at 118-120mph
Yes conditions were awful and your average mustang driver on street tires won’t do the promising car and driver times.
