    Shame it didn't have the performance pack with DCC shocks. Then you would have completely adjustable suspension and in Nurburgring mode it would not upshift by itself (you can hit the limiter). It would show how capable this car can be in the best stock version possible, not even mentioning that the rear-diff also changes it's behavior in that mode. Also you would have 272 km/h top speed instead of 250.

      Agreed. I'm really glad that there is a 8 R video on the channel finally, so thanks for that Misha! But if you get the opportunity to try a Performance Pack + DCC car please do so :) .

      @NoDoSwLa 6 месяцев назад +10

      Where should he have benefit from the 272 km/h? The other things sound good, but I hardly believe that he would've used any or most of it because it's always a "I hop in this car and go for a ride". We see that with most cars. He would need more time with a car to get the best out of it.

    Discs are Tarox F2000. I have them too. I wonder why you'd upgrade discs only though - owner says he burned his previous pads, so maybe because of the (supposed) improved cooling of slotted discs? Anyway, they're considerably more noisy than flat discs - the vibration they're mentioning is not some defect, it's inherent with these discs.

      Lol, its far more than just "OK" as a street car, Misha said it's like a "GT", which is a statement i agree with (and this is not an insulting statement at all, it means the car is refined, composed and fit for long journeys). When it comes to track use, with the performance package (which was not seen here), sub 7m50s BTG's are possible, stock. You can call that "not great", i call that very fast for what this car is. It wasn't long ago (less than 10 years), that such times were considered miracles in a hot hatch.The only problem is reliability (such as cooling problems), which are a problem with every single brand on the market in this price bracket.

    A golf R with the performance pack fixes alot of the issues stated here: Understeer {Fix: trick torque vectoring software for the rear diff} Apparently all the mk8 Rs have the diff its just a matter of a software change, Automatic upshift {NB Mode allows you to bang off the limiter lol }. Nothing fixes the annoying steering wheel tho. And that rear wing probably adds some stability at high speeds. Overall ive owned my 22 performance R for a few months now and i love it!

    • @doctorwho0072
      @doctorwho0072 6 месяцев назад

      Definitely, the 8r performance is better. Just wondering, where you got the information regarding the rear diff software being different to the stock 8r? I thought the difference in the rear diff was when drift mode engaged? I thought Special mode alters the shift points and idle.

    • @dodga100
      @dodga100 6 месяцев назад

      @@doctorwho0072 “drift” mode is the software. Some mk8 Rs don’t have this enabled especially in the UK, sorta like different trim levels in the Golf R line regular Rs have a limited top speed, no rear wing and I believe they don’t have the N mods or a drift mode, paying an extra sum unlocks that software and adds the other bits too.

    • @doctorwho0072
      @doctorwho0072 6 месяцев назад

      @dodga100 I agree. In the UK there are 3 spec available. The stock 8r, the 8r with performance pack and the 20th edition.
      The performance pack adds a higher top speed, no auto shift , different shift points as part of the special( nurburgring) mode and drift mode. My understanding is that whilst the hardware for the rear diffential is identical, the difference in the software for the rear differential lies in the drift mode and not nurburgring mode. I could be wrong though. Other additions as mentioned are the bigger 19inch wheels and rear spoiler.

      Yes you can settle this with the rear diff, but you really have to push the throttle.

      @UCh5Y7Xd0i3UUWRpAjFs yes you are right, it does have understeer, and the throttle usually sorts that out. The traction is incredible though. I dont plan on taking it to the track but it works really well as a fast , comfortable daily driver. There are better cars for track use and shouldn't really be driving it that fast on public roads to beyond its limits :p In my use case, it ticks all the boxes. Awesome seeing this car on the track, sad that it wasn't the NA spec with the DCC. I would 100% get 18" wheels, it has helped me so much making the car feel better in corners and over bumps. I have some concrete slab road near me with a bunch of seams, and with the DCC in stiff mode, I can feel every single one, but you put it in comfort and it's like they're not there. Completely changes the character of the car. Also, with the S+ mode you don't get the auto-upshifts, but you can't run that on any mode but the Special/Ring mode, so it's not available in Individual which is a shame.
    Totally agree that it's a hot hatch GT car. The hatch makes it so much nicer, though, since you can actually carry a full set of wheels and tools in the back without any modification.

    I think the owner didn't turn off tcs properly, I tracked my mk8 R (used nurburgring mode) on the Bahrain International Circuit, and when I switched off TCS it started oversteering around almost every corner whenever I accelerate out of it, and had absolutely zero understeer, the more throttle I give it the sharper it turns basically

      This is the base model without any options. So it hasn't adjustable suspension. It's a shame to buy a Golf R this way imo. If you spend all this money to buy the R model, just do it right then. He says in the video not willing to spend 2 grand for the performance pack. But the base car is what something about € 50 000? That's just 4% of the cost he already payed.
      Also who puts uprated discs on a car without uprated pads?? Don't save on money if you buy a performance car or just buy something more affordable...

    • @MrTARIQSs
      @MrTARIQSs 6 месяцев назад

      @@kevinghijs7330 the stock disks are already good so idk why did he do that in the 1st place, he could've spent that on the performance pack lmao

      Also I was much quicker per lap than a stage 2 mk7 r because the mk8 r was significantly quicker around corners, the dude was confused with how much speed I was taking the corners at, he told me he was pushing hard but couldn't get close to my cornering speed, was only faster on a straight line because he had a stage 2 tune (420hp)

    • @MrTARIQSs

    I think the GTI is still probably the one to buy, especially for track days. The R makes a great daily driver, but the AWD also makes it heavier. The GTI being FWD makes it lighter and more nimble. Save your money by getting the GTI instead of the R, and modify the hell out of it. Then you got yourself a little Nurburgring beast.

      @@Birmingham_racingif you watch most Nurburgring videos from channels like Auto Addiction and StatesideSupercars, you definitely see way more GTI’s than R’s. The GTI is definitely the preferred track car.

    Damn you sent it! My car is governed at 151mph. (244kmph)Took it up that fast only once on the highway. Pulled with a newer 5.0 full of people on the highway from 75 to 150 before we had to slow down. Door to door all the way to 145 then he pulled a half car length almost gapped me, but didn't, at the end. He probably hit 155 compared to my 151 is why. This is much safer and more respectable to be doing it on the track.

    As capable as the car is on track, I just could not live with it as a daily with all the unnecessary assists to be switched off manually everytime and the "far too much touchscreen and touch controls"-depending user interface.
    I know that most of the unnecessary assists are thanks to the EU and UK regulations, so I don't blame Volkswagen for it. However, I would appreciate the manufacturer which allows you to have a configurable button for which you can decide what to deactivate with one click/touch. If this is legally allowed, of course.
