Freezeout Hill was named such due to wagons needing to ‘freeze’ their wheels coming into the valley. My relatives related many stories of placing long tree branches through the back wheels of the wagon so it would not rapidly roll down the hill. There is even an old photo in the Historical Society in Emmett of such a practice! I grew up on (old) Freezeout hill.

Not sure where you were coming from to get to Emmett? From Eagle to Emmett there is one signal at State and Highway 16 and one signal at 16 and Beacon Light. Then no signals until you get into town. Coming from Highway 55 into Emmett past Sweet, there are no signals, and coming from Weiser area into Emmett, only signals are the few signals in town, and coming from Middleton into Emmett, no stop lights. Emmett used to be a charming little AG town. It has lost almost all of that charm. Before you move, you may want to visit with the high school grads who have moved away, with no interest in returning.
Fast area growth is drying up the aquifers, as well as causing major accidents/fatalities on the local hwy's and roads. Winters can get bitter cold at times, with icy roads to navigate. Downtown Emmett is a bit of a ghost town, with a lot of empty store fronts and run-down looking, due to single out-of-state ownership. Yes, Emmett does have a bit of Apple HIll/Placerville vibes. My sister in law is an American and an ultra conservative. She and her husband are leaving Denver and moving to Idaho. Their neighborhood was destroyed by homeless drug addiction meth heads and overall crime. Colorado once was a golden place. The California people and their communist/socialist attitudes moved in and the place went straight downhill to unlivable and unaffordable. I hate to break the news to you, but Californians didn't ruin Denver. I've been in Denver since the mid 70's, and it has had a major drug problem dating back to even before that. Colfax Ave. was the drug hangout back then. I love how people hate to admit that the drug problems and lack of enforcement of existing laws is a result of who they put into local office. Denver has had this problem for 50 years.
Water is expensive in the city with high cholerine smell and a lot of wells outside of town smell like rotten eggs. She names places like Roystone that isn't even in Emmett.
Thanks for watching! That's true - lots of wells have that smell due to sulfur, but most homes with well have good filters to filter that out. And I mention Roystone as something to do close to Emmett, but yes, it's about a 20 min drive.
I made a video about the cost of living in Idaho you can check out on my channel, but in general, taxes are quite low compared to most places.
