JIMMER MANIA! Was Supposed To Be THE NEXT Steph Curry! Stunted Growth

  • Today’s feature is honestly one of my favorite players not in the NBA. He’s not played in the NBA since 18-19 and before that missed the previous 2 seasons. It’s been that kinda career for Jimmer Fredette, the sharp shooting, who as an ammeter took over college basketball his final two seasons and once averaged 28.9ppg and shot 40% from 3 for a season taking almost 9 3 pointers a game! In an era from the late 2000s to now, you’d think that kinda skillset could garner a hundred million dollar contract and NBA superstardom in this deep shooting era, but for Jimmer and as much chances as he’s had, that just didn’t happen. I remember seeing Steph Curry at Davidson and not believing my eyes. Jimmer was supposed to be next up. Jimmer didn’t become those things, but he was still able to play the sport he loves for a living and at least had the opportunity most that pick up a basketball don’t. What Happened to the BYU assassin Jimmer Fredette? 3 reasons he didn't become Steph Curry.

    Jimmer is a legend over here in China. You show a clip of his dust-up with Stephon Marbury, the result of Jimmer dropping a 54-point, 13-rebound, 10-assist triple double on the very frustrated Marbury, who had four points. Jimmer can run an offense and pass, but he has to have the ball in his hands all the time, and that's not going to happen in the NBA. I've talked to him a couple of times here and he seems to be a good guy.

    Something else to mention is because he was the guy at BYU he allegedly had a huge ego which affected how teams looked at him as well. I’m sure he is a bit more humble now but that was also definitely a huge thing that kept him bouncing from team to team

      Yeah, I read that too. Apparently early on, he wanted everything to be about him and to have the neon green light like he had at BYU, and the NBA was like "Ummmm, no. I knew he wouldn't make it in the NBA because he had zero defense ability and couldn't go left consistently and couldn't create his own shot. He could shoot but didn't get stronger and had a hard time reading defenses and struggled when in the pick and roll. Overall he was a dynamic player in college and to be fair had he had different coaching on another team he could have been at least serviceable in the NBA because he had shooting ability but he lacked confidence early on

    I remember him, as a rookie, breaking down a defender and driving to the basket. The weak side defender slides in the paint to stop his drive. Jimmer pulls up. But his defender he broke down recovers, and has his hand able to defend Jimmer's pull up J, from behind. Jimmer feels him, from behind, and ends up altering his shot, in mid air.
    That play, alone, told me that Jimmer, who could easily blow by college defenders and weak side cats sliding in the paint, had some adjustment he had to do, regarding the speed of the NBA. As we see, he was not able to adjust.

    Sacramento should have had an interesting backcourt with big PG Tyreke Evans and small SG Jimmer Fredette, but when they drafted Jimmer they took the ball out of Tyreke's hands and tried to make Jimmer a "True PG" similarly to early years Steph Curry. I know the problems with Jimmer go beyond this, but I still hate the way Sacramento misused both of their talents

    • @CM-ft9ep
      @CM-ft9ep Год назад +1

      But with Jimmer running the point Evans would have never touched the ball, Jimmer wasn't interested or capable of passing. Exactly why he couldn't last in the league.

      @@CM-ft9ep I think you misunderstood what I said. The Kings took the ball out of Evans after year one and tried to make him a wing instead of the slashing facilitator he was his rookie year, and then tried to make Jimmer a True PG instead of a small SG. They got their roles reversed, and while Jimmer's problems were far easier to see, I think it really messed up Evan's career and is why he peaked his rookie year

      Tyreke and Jimmer could've worked ok, sharing handling and running off screens, etc. He did fine on a team in Greece with a similar set up (jimmer playing as a SG a lot of the time).

    Did you call Curry "Maybe even top 10 all time"? There ain't no maybe sir🤣🤦🏿‍♂️, he might even be top 5: Jordan, Lebron, and Kareem are the only players I would definitely put above him as of now. Guys like Magic, Wilt, Bill Russel, Larry Bird etc are arguable depending on which factor/attribute/accolade you choose to highlight

    Idk I feel like The Jimmer never got a fair shake in the nba. I mean, you tell me he can't shoot in 20 minutes off a good team's bench? Doesn't make sense

    You’d think a shooter would always have a roster spot. Still true for the most part, buoy With the long ball being so commonplace in today’s game, a guy who may not shoot as well, but good enough and can guard 2-3 positions will take that roster spot a guy like joker used to have on lock
