      Antonio Mc Dyess always reminded me of Brian Mc Knight without the S'Curl in his taper fade. He definitely had a stellar career and always was a solid 2nd 3rd option in his starting days and a great rotation player. He always was a yr short from winning a ring coming and going.

    Man I had high hopes for that Denver team in 95-96. I was a freshmen in highschool addicted to Sportscenter and I thought that team was going to be something - Dikembe, McDyess, Mahmoud Abdul Rauf (who was a whole mf bucket btw), Jalen Rose, and Laphonso Ellis just sounded like a killer starting 5 to me - so much talent!

      @@TheRetroWoman80if only they actually played that lineup. Those coaches were so damn stupid. I remember them trying to make Abdul-Rauf into a traditional point guard like stockton when clearly he was a 2 guard. And then Jalen WANTED to play the pint but they wouldnt let him. Ya kno cuz he was 6’8. It was retarded. So u got Abdul-Rauf bringing it up and told to pass the ball inside to fuckin Dikembe who had the post moves of an 8 year old. And Jalen coming off the bench to play the 3. It was absurd. And then the national anthem protest happened and then they started benching Abdul-Rauf. Just awful coaches. Cowards.

    Great video. Thanks for making this. Antonio McDyess is one of the forgotten gems of the 90s who was let down by his franchise. He gave the Nuggets everything he had and they weren't willing or able to support him. They were so bad in the mid to late 90s it's a miracle they didn't move to another city. They not only stayed but they built a new arena in 2k. You could argue McDyess kept the franchise in Denver. He (along with the Avalanche) was one of the few players they had worth watching back then.

    Dice..my favorite player growing up..he's always a fixture on those top 10 plays of the week. Most people remember him as a role player with the spurs/pistons but he was a legit 20/10 monster. Even rasheed wallace said dice was one of the hardest players to guard before the injuries

  • @broncobilly4029
    @broncobilly4029 Год назад +6

    McDyess was 6'9" and 240 lbs. with a huge wingspan, a 42" vertical, and a soft feathery jumper. If you were going to create PF, you would get AM. His turnaround jump shot on the block was unstoppable. He never realized how good he was, and he lacked a killer instinct. He made a mistake coming back to the Nuggets. Their organization was chaotic at that time. He should have stayed with the Suns. He had a couple of serious knee injuries which really hurt him because he really relied on his athleticism. He finished up his career as a valuable roll player on some good Spurs and Pistons teams, but he never reached his potential which makes him a good subject for this channel.

    We loved Antonio in San Antonio. Even before he was a Spur we had a lot of respect for his game. In his early days at Denver, every time they came up on the on the calendar and he was healthy, it was a must watch because we knew he was gonna bring that athleticism and high motor to that game so it was a guaranteed show. He was still a very valuable role player when we did eventually get him the last two year's of his career and I personally feel he extended Duncan's career by a year or two with his rotational contributions. He's a really nice guy too if you ever get to meet him, class act.

    I think he was Blake Griffin before Blake Griffin. Also,definitely would dominate in today's game especially if you combine his athleticism from his younger days with a mid range jump shot he had after the injuries in Detroit.
    Also JC you should do growth spurt videos on Chauncey Billups and Tyson Chandler. I remember Chauncey bounced around until he got to Detroit and helped them to a championship. Then helped Denver in 2009 to the Western conference finals. Tyson Chandler after a rocky start in Chicago became a defensive and rebounding beast in New Orleans and also helped Dallas win the chip in 2011 and then became defensive player of the year the next season. Like the vidoes and content JC keep it coming.

He rejected all of them to return to Detroit, for a team that cratered to the 8th seed with AI. McDyess fought so damn hard every night for that team and it gave me a respect for him that I’ll never forget. Truly one of my favorite Pistons. He was excellent in the 2008 ECF too. You really have to wonder what those Nugget teams could've been, they could've had Abdul-Rauf and Jalen Rose shooting from deep, McDyess scoring from the post and Mutombo controlling the paint on defense. But unfortunately, McDyess never had a reason to develop a jumper until after he got hurt. But he does deserve a ton of credit for coming back from those knee injuries.
