7 BJJ Solo Drills To Build Better Hip Movement

  • I sent a message out asking people what type of drills they would like to see in future videos. 1 that kept popping up over and over again was solo drills for BJJ.
    In this video I show 7 BJJ solo drills to build better hip movement.
    I honestly don't do a ton of solo drills. I have a gym full of people who are ready and willing to drill all the time. It's honestly pretty rare not to see someone drilling before or after a class. We have a lot of people who come in mid day just to drill and do situational rolling.
    But I do have some solo drills I do.
    You've probably heard that Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is all about hips. It's not far off either. Good hip movement is so important for nearly every position in BJJ. With that said, I figured going over some solo drills that would build hip movement would be useful for anyone at any level. Your hips can never be too good.
    So I hope you guys enjoy the video and find them useful. If you have any questions, shoot me message.
    and if you'd like to see more stuff, check out my social media links and my website.

    Thank you for this video. I just finished my second week of jiu jitsu and I'm not having trouble understanding what's being taught but applying those techniques is difficult for me, especially while rolling because I'm just not used to using my hips the way I need to.
    I'm definitely going to work on getting familiar with the movements in this video!

    Dude, thank you for these videos. I'm two classes in, and I know I need to learn some fundamental movement. I am finding elements of yoga, with maybe some contemporary dance? It's quite lovely. Two things I don't really know much about though, but more than bjj. So it's helping! Cheers! Also, is it okay we have a dog named Chewy, and started calling her Chewjitsu, before we knew about you?! I thought I was so clever, lol. Thanks again! Look forward to checking out a lot of your content!

    in another video, you mentioned you had really tight hips when you first started and it prevented you from having a good mount. What stretches did you do to improve your mobility in your hips? Is it normal for you hips to be sore the day after a moderate hip stretching/mobility routine?

    So if these are drills to do at home on off days how long would you recommend doing them?

    • @Chewjitsu
      @Chewjitsu  7 лет назад +2

      You can do them however you'd like. I sometimes add them to the end of my lifting days as cardio.
      Start with 30-40 seconds of each drill and do a few few passes through to start.

    Since I don't know where to ask I will ask here. I will be starting BJJ soon. I am completely ignorant to the sport. I wrestled in HS and went to a local MMA gym. I do not want to disrespect the sport, my teammates or my coach. Does BJJ have any unwritten rules I need to know of before I step on the mat? Thanks!!
