"Norteño" sound, as its name says, is originated in the north of Mexico. Later, people who immigrated to Texas developed its own style there, that is why is sung in spanish. "Norteño" is not only polkas, there is more european forms as redova, chotis and mazurca. Those rithms are the folk music and identity of the habitants of this region of Mexico (north).
