What I love about Mexican music is that you can see a 60 year old couple dancing next to a 18 year old couple . Same music. Our music spreads from all over the ages
MYDJNAME this made me tear up
Music Does Not Have Age Or Any Type Of Barriers.
I love this perspective so much, so true!
@Catholic Truth Yup
blame it on rock n roll, the music that separated the ages
Thanks for this. I am a gringo who super digs Mexico, and I was always hearing this particular style of music that I really dig on. Turns out it's norteño.
Haha same shit for me man. I grew up playing soccer and I work in agriculture, I always got along perfectly with the Mexicans. Really we were all “country boys” just from different countries, ellos son mi gente! lol
@@GeoffPeterson33 100% MEXICAN cowboy
wait till you find out where norteño comes from ''gringo''
@@GeoffPeterson33 corridos>
Our neighbors in Las Vegas play it a lot and we have it set as our default station on the car radio. So stoked to have a name for it now!
I'm a white guy who grew up in SoCal, moved to Oklahoma, and knows very little Spanish. However! I'm a musician and have always loved Mariachi music. I really enjoyed this video! My family/friends think I'm crazy when I'm listening to this music because I don't know what they are singing about and I can't repeat what they sing; I just enjoy the art. Thanks for the video!
I was born in Chicago, moved to Mexico when I was 5, had to learn Spanish and forgot English. I was a fan of Michael Jackson Thriller album and i experienced it in 1982. i didn't understand a word. Music truly is universal. Salud! 🍻
As A Puerto Rican I appreciate this very much because in my American ignorance, I was taught that mexico had one type of music and once dance, The Jarabe tapatío, smh LOL Thank you.
I was taught PR are af ricans and shouldn't be in Mexicans business.
My paternal family are Jalisciense and my maternal family are Oaxacan. I recall when my Oaxacan grandfather use to talk about his adventure to U.S. as a Bracero. He would cross the border legally by border towns in Texas and Arizona, he would hear the old time Nortena music. This got him enthusiasm for polka music. I see myself as a Chicano, I am into Nortena and Mariachi through my family.
Bro u forgot to explain the origin of banda sinaloense, in the 20's a lot of german people comes to sinaloa to work in mines and comes with the instruments and his music, this origin the music of banda, pudiera decir mas pero mi ingles es muy limitado jajaja greetings from Mazatlán Sinaloa, the home of banda el Recodo, banda MS and la arrolladora banda el Limón
Las primeras bandas de México provienen del sur.
@22alexraider you're ignorant! Do your research first then talk. Sergio Sendel Mexican actor is one of many Mexicans with German in them. Germans made it from Mexico all the way to Argentina and Chile! There are many Mexicans with German last names. We my famiglia also have German in us and french. Ignoramus, before you speak, know facts! Sergio Sendel is from Mexico City. None of his family was Americans!!!!!!
Germans also made it to Canada too! Justin beiber is part german!
Actually Mexicans prefer Italian accordions, but German accordions are cheaper
And now Chinese accordions are invading
@22alexraider explain Sergio Sendel then. None of his family were Americans!
I remember the first time my dad played norteño music for me. My entire childhood he mainly listen to country western music Motown and very old rockabilly. But he did business in Nuevo Laredo back in the day, and heard lots of Norteno. He loved it and passed that along to me.🙂
There’s just something about that accordion music 🥰
I want mariachis at my funeral.....and my favorite kind of music is Spanish folk music....
I love Norteño, Banda and Mariachi. I also love Country/Western, Blues and Rock N' Roll. To the point where I actually have been playing my Bajo Sexto in the Rock N' Roll band about as much as I have my guitar.
Rock N' Roll needs more Bajo Sexto.
Bajo sexto also fits good on jazz music👌
rock needs accordion
Your music is sooo German
@@Izakokomarixyz working on that, too. You'd be surprised how many folks are surprised Accordions can rock. Especially the button accordion.
Thanks man shout out to your culture 🔥
I showed this to my class in a project about the culture of a country. 🖒
The power of music. Its absolutely fucking mystical. 😁🙏❤️ Working as a ground courier for DHL in Phoenix I have a lot of time to listen to music. More often than not I'm listening to Mexican radio. So vibrant and colorful, and 90% of thr time I have no idea what's being sung but it puts me in such a happy place. Probably because I'm 100% Polish and I grew up going to Polish festivals and weddings with live Polka bands, this musica me hace feliz! And let's me revel in my childhood.
Thanks for this video!
Very informative... my cousin was a member of alegres de teran and now I believe his son is now also.
Gloria Ann Rodriguez ..... los alegres de teran ... can i get an autograph ?? 🥺
This video is fantastic! Not only does it explain the differences between the genres really well, it shows how diverse our music really is. Plus I have some artists to look into now, so that's a bonus!
Mock Horrified that’s awesome! Glad I was able to help. :P
Norteño, and country, and Tejano, and the only thing that you forgot to mention about Quebradita is that aside from having a fusion of Banda and Colombian cumbia it also has a fusion of Cuban Mambo
The past few months I've been introduced to Son Huasteco and Son Jarocho that I've really enjoyed listening to these genres other than the big more known genres lately.
same
I love all these genres! My mom is from Jalisco! Such an interesting video. Loved learning about this. Thanks! My daughter enjoyed it as well lol shes 2 years old. She loves music.
Gaby Perez awwww. That’s awesome. I’m glad i didn’t swear. 😂😝
Eddie G! Lol she would of been like oooooo mommy lol 😂
man you should do more videos like this so your channel can grow more
Dude your videos been getting more dope keep up the good work
You forgot Campirana, which consist of a 12 string guitar, a 6 string guitar, and a tuba, or bass.
Unless you grew up in the Guamúchil- Angostura region of Sinaloa or southern Sonora , this music is relatively new to the rest of Mexico and southwestern United States. Taking off I would say with Jesus Ojeda back in 2011 because after him even other groups took off as he pioneered the genre. Not even Miguel y Miguel impacted this genre as he did though Mígueles were before him . After so many soloist and other similar groups started incorporating this style to their music.
YaaaaY!!! I totally want to see your vlogs!!!! Not enough positive vlogs out there. I don't really watch TV anymore because everything is so depressing. RUclips it is for me.
Now i finally know why i like Mexican accordion music. Its polka!
*A lot of my friends listen to this, but i grew up with cumbia, salsa and guaracha. My family really enjoyed dancing so thats probably why. Also my sister says it also has to do with my family being from the city*
I love your ENERGY!!!!!! You could literally talk about anything and it'd be enjoyable to watch haha
Did You know that The Native Tribes Of Mexico .. already had their own flutes , bases, drums, Maracas, they has Bands for their Kings !!!And an array of wind instruments Long Before the Spanish Landed 🔥🔥🔥👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👺👺👺👺👺👺☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️🔥
Very helpful video!! I live in north texas and I’m glad that I can finally recognize these music genres and how they work.
I need to know this for my music teacher exam...dude, you know your stuff! Good job! 🙌❤
I love Mexican death metal like brujaria that's a badass band
el brujoo 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Pero, también me guests música Norteña como Los Tigres del Norte, the Classics for sure
Eddie G! I had never head of Huichol before, and I really like it. Thank you for showing it to me!
This was the most fascinating video I’ve seen on RUclips in a long time. THANK YOU! Very interesting.
Love this thanks!
I like anything with a good bass. 😁
Huichol sounds badass. ima check them out
I loveeee your videos Eddie they are so informative and interesting ❤️
awesome video hermano keep em coming!
70-90s norteno music do go hard with a bottle of tequila
Early-mid 2000s goes hard too after that we started to have frauds get into musica nortena and cap and tell fake stories, and now we have marca mp 😭🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️💀💀 the last nigga that we had in musica nortena that didn’t cap was tito tobellino
I love looking at different cultures. Always interesting.
Now I just need a playlist 😂❤️
Eddie your videos are great, man!
Thanks for posting this!
Being from Texas I love Tejano y Conjunto!
Jose Paiz eso!
Same here
I love this video thanks so much for making it😊
Can you talk about "Narco-corridos"? Like Chalino Sanchez, Valentin Elizalde, El Komander. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Bro this video blew my mind thanks so much for the cultural knowledge!!
Wow! Muy claro e informativo!
Nuevo suscriptor!👍
Un abrazo desde Monterrey 🤠
I have no idea who you are and this video was suggested by RUclips only because of wanting to learn what Norteno music was (from Lost in the Pond channel video). I am glad it happened. I surbscribed. Thanks.
Que buena info orgulloso de el estado cuna de la música norteña Nuevo León saludos bro.
You did a great job on this video
Great video! As a mariachi player, I send this video to people who ask “do y’all have an accordion”? Lol
Excellent analysis. Gracias amigo!
El mejor video de youtube!!! ON POINT WITH THE EXPLANATION
Funny thing is Banda and Norteño music comes from the German settlers prior to the Texas revolution that brought Germanic folk music, it’s almost the exact same. They also brought the first beer to Mexico, which is why Mexican beers like Modelo, Dos, and Tecate taste like German beer
Tejano Music Homie ! Great video Got to love all the oldies !
Its Eddie Cool G Awesome Content
Germans and Czechs came in the 1840's and they had a big mixture of language, music and food.
I enjoyed your video friend ! Most especially hearing some great spanglish :,)
Thank you for clarifying this for all those who doesn't know
Good video!
Well done Eddie!
It's gotta be Norteño, as a Norteño myself (from Durango), this is my absolute favorite. Y'all need to look into Grupo Arriesgado! (They're from Sinaloa)
cumbias give me chills cuz of how good they sound
I'm from edo mex and when I was a kind living there it was no too much banda music so I didn't like banda too much but now that I live in California... damn it's all about banda in here and now I love banda music
This video helped me in my music class.
Música es la vida.
Fun stuff, amigo! Thumbs up.
Actually Antonio Aguilar and Joan Sebastian started singing in Banda. And recoditos were before recodo. Still good video.
El Recodo was the first Banda to record in general
Norteños and Mariachi because I play the accordion and trumpet and love playing rancheras, and corridos.
I needed this
Love it! Thank you.
I felt noticed when you called these "Types" and not "Genres" of Mexican Music.
I would like to share (and in some way protest), that both U.S. and Mexican media companies have marketed the Mexican music in a way that the original names of the genres have diluted through the time.
Beginning with "Banda", which refers to the Tambora Music (which is even referred in many of the lyrics of the Tambora music). In response, Sinaloan people got more specific when referring to New Banda Music as "Banda" and Old Banda Music as "Tambora". The main difference is that Banda includes a singer, while the Tambora has no singer.
Grupero is how Mexican media companies refer to "Banda, Norteño and in-between".
Things get worse and more sensitive when talking about Norteño Music, because that's music got built by both sides of the border, without caring about Mexican national identity, but playing the Corridos in a Conjunto.
TL;DR:
A Tambora plays (Corridos Boleros, Huapango Norteño, Foxtrot and Danzon), it is mainly popular in Southwestern regio El Norte and Northern zones of El Bajío. The most popular song "El Sinaloense" was not created by a Sinaloan, but a Mexican from San Luis Potosí.
A Conjunto plays (Corridos, Boleros, Huapango Norteño, Cumbia, Cumbia (variations in tempo: the westernest the fastest), Redova, Mazurka, Polka). Old Norteño music used to include Flute, Fiddle, Guitar (before the bajosexto was created) and a Woodblock (noticeable in polkas).
A Mariachi plays (Corridos, Boleros, Huapangos [both Norteño and Huasteco], Son (every kind), Jarabe, and Ballads) it demands strong and well trained vocals. I dare to say this is Neo-galician music.
However, I recognise that Modern Mexican identity is so strong that any attempt to give voice to the Norteño, Abajeño and Neogallego regions seems futile.
Thanks for this video, i really loved it.
Great points!
Can you point us to any resource to find out more about the genres that were merged into modern genres we see today? I’ve never heard about the abajeño and neogallego regions either.
My grandfathers cousin was Cruz lizarraga. He used to play for my grandpa in the plaza in culiacan back before he became famous.
So much good info. I'm a Colombian-American DJ in the United States and have struggled figuring out these genres for the longest fucking time
Thank you for respecting norteño, banda and mariachi as it’s own thing and not mixing them. I also dislike how they get jumble into “Regional Mexicano”.
Well, it's important to note that it's not an actual genre, it's just a term that bundles up all Mexican genres if one is too lazy to specify and wants to talk about music in Mexico in general. It can be a problem to foreigners though, cause they might not understand that and think that it's all one genre.
Great to get an English explanation so we can learn and be closer. Gracias
I love this video so much.
Are music never gets old.
Thanks for sharing your musical knowledge.
GREAT VIDEO!!! Teaching General Music to Special Needs class and doing a comparison of German Polka Band to Mexican Mariachi w/accordion influence! Compare/Contrast instrumentation - clarinet or trumpet, etc... Any more videos on this??? Bravo!
if you look into Banda sinaloense it even has more similarities to German polka
Gr8 Vid!
Gracias por esta explicación
Love your info for those that didn't know. But I love Tejano Music 🎶. 😷🤙
Helpful intro, especially the diff between Norteño and Banda, which I wasn't quite clear on. Though one thing you don't seem to cover is the distinct style of southern Mexican music (maybe it's more than one style?) that has an affinity with the music of Central American countries.
tysm i was searching for a video for my hw of mexican music and this one is perfect
VIVA LATINOSSS
I’m disappointed that you didn’t mention Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán
Thank you 🙏
Damn these vids are cool!
Okaaaay, Mr. Eddie G! ... your energy makes me want to go to another video. That might be because you remind me of me. I used to do that, live like that, and be you. Now I'm old and seem to feel embarassed with looking in a time-warping mirror. So in the Spirit of humanity... live long, prosper, don't be ashamed of who you really are, and be real.
I’m from Michoacán and we listen to all three in party’s
That was very helpful. Thank you so much. What did you mean at the end when you said,
keep it cazi?
Nice video. Any chance you can get into the differences of more genres like rancho/ranchera, mariachi and even corridos
Awesome bro 👍
Shout out to our German buddies!
La primer agrupación de grabar con vocalista fue la banda el limón, y el primer cantante fue Julio Preciado!
My man. Se te olvido el tamborazo . 😵 i like your videos . i si my family son de durango so nomas me pongo pedo i los rieleros del norte come up on my play list . lol
Thanks for the explaining the differences! I think I like the mariachi (love the strings) and the norteno (love the accordion) better than Banda. Banda is too heavy on the brass for me.
Duuuuude, I'm basically doing a podcast project for my class and I'm focusing on mariachi music and what distinguishes it from other styles and how it developed, I'm hoping that I will be able to do it justice X"3
Great video man you're hilarious
Got some old frontera corridos on rotation in my americana Playlist you got my ass with that cult americana 😂😂
very informative. learned multiple things. might have to rewatch. shit is great son, thank you
All of these are wonderful when played with real instruments. I think more people would appreciate these genres if recordings didn’t rely heavily on synthesized instruments (especially brass). Curious what you think. I’m going to check out your recs.
