It seems that not many people know Floor is a High Sensitive Person (her own statement). High sensitivity, also called HSP, appears to occur in about 20% of the population. It is a unique quality (not an illness or condition)! Highly sensitive people have the ability to process sensory stimuli in a different and unique way. Often they are intuitive, highly sensitive to the atmosphere and are able to read and estimate people. Floor uses this fully to her advantage in her singing and performing, better yet, she made an art form out if it (my personal believe). This explains partly why Floor is so overwhelmingly power full in her performances. Her enormous talent, incredible voice, warm and humble personality, flawless technique and hard work is amplified by her highly developed sensitive side...(if you ask me)... and of course she is fueled by the enthusiasm of the Nightwish fans... Floor just brings everything to another level, unreachable for most singers... she really connects you to the songs... and that is what makes the musical masterpieces from Tuomas so much better. Together with her “brothers” from Nightwish they are just one of the best bands around... they make musical art...
We're blessed that this magical creature landed on our planet. It's just unreal, she's like the most beautiful dream but true! That voice that elegance that power that emotion that femininity etc all packed in a single person, she's out of this world, in any aspect. Sometimes I wonder if she's a Jedi Master, no kidding.

I think that at this moment you can already appreciate the diversity of themes approached by Nightwish. Here is a song dedicated to creativity, an essential (but often overlooked) component of human civilization. It is not the only time that Tuomas touches on this theme, but every time he does it from a different perspective. Now the perspective is of innocent childhood, a favorite theme of his creation.
It's not a book of concepts. It's an ENTIRE ENCYCLOPEDIA.

This song is from their Imaginaerium album, a concept album based on an old composer on his death bed relieving the memories of his life. One of Tuomas's favorite topics or themes in his music is lost innocence. As a poet and artist Tuomas values the sense of wonder and imagination that children have. In Storytime the composer is remembering the joy he got from childhood tales, thus the references to Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland (Tuomas often uses literary references in his lyrics and as inspiration for songs). It is through these childhood stories that we discover ourselves and who we are (I am the story that will read you real). Song is inspired by a popular British Christmas movie The Snowman. Storytime" was born when Tuomas wondered why no-one had made a remake of the film, and pondered on what his version of the score to the scene in which "Walking in the Air" plays would sound like. Tuomas ""How would it feel to take a midnight flight with a snowman through the most wondrous landscapes, like in the classic animated Yuletide film? The meaning of our very existence is created though stories, tales and imagination. They are at the very core of humanity." Walking on the Air is a very popular Christmas song in the UK and Finland and Nightwish did a beautiful cover of it with their first singer Tarja that is worth reacting to. I don`t know if anybody has told you all the songs Floor is singing at Wacken 2013 were not written for Floor , but for Tarja 1st Nightwish vocalist or Annette 2nd Nightwish vocalist , Floor started singing with Nightwish in Oct of 2012 as a replacement vocalist to finish out the rest of the tour which I believe ended at Wacken .

This is a really good one to start with it's a 2 pt .
Anette era song from the 2011 Imaginaerum album, the record this tour was for. That album has themes of imagination and fantasy. The operatic part at the end was sung solely by the choir in the studio version. Anette has more of a pop/rock style, operatics aren't her forte. Floor is very good at them, so she joins the choir in that part. Tuomas likes themes of stories and childhood innocence, and is a fan of Disney and composer Hans Zimmer.
Love the build up to that operatic section, particularly Jukka's toms.

Tuomas is a creative Genius, and specially since Floor & Troy he have gained so many extra tools to play with. I mean all the different instruments that Troy can play aswell as he can sing, and all the different things that Floor can do with her Voice.

I was there in 2013. It changed my life. I've always been a Nightwish fan, but when Floor joined it just felt like perfection.
Tuomas is a genius. The sound and lyrics... every song is a masterpiece. Although some positions have changed through the years.. Nightwish has always maintained it's soul and their fans have always been loyal and amazing 🙌

The song refers to two stories - Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland - in the song. The idea being that stories evoke imagination in our thoughts. Music as well. About half the songs of this concert were from the album which was new at the time. The tour was the Imaginaerum Tour. The set list evoked the concept of fantasy and freedom of thought.
I got that. What a creative piece this is. I LOVE IT
I too only discovered Nightwish a short time ago, but they have quickly become one of my all-time favourite bands, and I listen to them almost daily. I do not know what kind of sorcery this is, but I am totally and utterly enthralled by it. All the very best from Australia.

I'm a 62 year old man, and this woman and this band bring me to literal tears over and over....... Everything at Wacken is a MUST consume, ...... Dead Boys Poem from Buenos Aires will wreck you, no joke. I mean how can a band and singer sound so like themselves, yet no song even resembles the last. It's just astonishing the creativity in Tuomas, the talent in the band and of course the Goddess herself. .... my God this woman is a force of nature! Poet and the Pendulum please! This is one of the all time best Nightwish performances and songs. This song is a masterpiece and represents what Nightwish is well, many consider it the best NW song. Floor's performance takes it into the stratosphere.
It's a special work, that's evident. I've re-listened several times and keep finding gems...

Congrats on reaching 5K! I didn't discover Nightwish until about 3 years ago, but I've listened to at least one of their songs every day since, and usually quite a few more. So it seems you are sinking in to the very core of Nightwish with Romanticide and Storytime. Nightwish with the combination of immaculate composition, musicians and not least Floor they are able to illustrate a perfect atmosphere and emotion to every song. Its like every song is theater play on its own. This I think is also the biggest difference between their singers - Tarja especially but also Anette wanted to showcase her own voice and ability with all kinds of tricks where instead Floor uses her talent to create exactly what the song needs. Often she could pull out even more amazing vocal acrobatics with her voice, but she has the ability to perfectly blend with the composition and emote all this to the audiences. It seems that is the magic ingredient the band members share - they are able to give what ever the music needs every given time. And there is abundance of these mini plays for you to enjoy. And if you want to see Floors illustration ability at its purest check "Face Your Demons" live at her Amsterdam solo concert. I dare to say there aren't that many singers in the history at her level of illustration.
Now this will be a controversial comment. It relates to this ability to "give what the music needs". As important part as Marco was to Nightwish, I started to have a feeling he wasn't quite happy being "just a part of the band". You can see it in their concerts that already since a long time ago he had this habit of breaking the flow of the concert with his individual performances. Rare and small yes, but somehow I started to get the feeling he wanted to be more of a star. Now he is digging that stardom with Tarja and milking the golden memories of the OG Nightwish purists. I do find it amusing that after all these years Marco is the better singer of the two, but there is a certain sour and bitter tone in what they do. Like they are "too good for Nightwish", but I believe they would have ever became mediocre at their best without the composition mastermind of Tuomas giving them the opportunity to shine.
Floor is magnificent. A unicorn amongst vocalists.
I used to promote bands, so I can appreciate Marco's frustration, but that kind of blind ambition can taint a band's chi...
One of my favorite performances. You can see how much fun the band is having the whole time.
Who wouldn't? The energy Floor brings is like a happy plague.
Others mentioned this song was from one of Annette's albums. It would do her justice to limit reactions to Annette's live performances to songs written for her, rather than for Tarja. That's where she shines.

An elderly writer looks back on his life of storytelling and all the other stories recalled from the past - including of course Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland.
This tour was to promote the album Imaginaerum (not InaginARIum) and the band are the actors in the eponymous movie which was premiered at the November 2012 Helsinki concert.
That movie, dark and disturbing in some ways, casts a lot of light on the songs from the album and includes many of them. Watching it will explain a lot of the lyrics and stories told in the songs
In Storytime you get the "writer by the fire" imagining "all of Gaia", the storyteller who takes a "journey into a child-man's heart" (ie Tuomas who is a great Disney and Fantasy fan).
The "painter on the shore" tells his stories through pictures rather than writing, holding the snowflake in his palm. This refers to the movie in which a snow globe plays an important symbolic role tying things together.
Kites, chimneys, moonlit sights - think of Mary Poppins...
I recommend the movie.
Wacken, yes a great show. But Floor has matured and got even better over the years. A couple of years later Wembley and Tampere were in the Endless Forms tour and you can see how Floor has grown into the role. I prefer both those shows, as shows (I wouldn't want to be without the performances at Wacken, never to be repeated on later tours though. After all, without Wacken we wouldn't have a Floor performance on video of my No 2 Song of Myself).
Best of all is 2018 at Buenos Aires which celebrated the Decades retrospective of 20+ years touring and brought back many early songs,breinterpreted and in most cases improved, with Floor.
Of my top 6, 2 are from that show - Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean and Dead Boy's Poem and others are close behind (Slaying the Dreamer, Gethsemane, The Carpenter, End of All Hope and the opening Uilleann Pipe solo reinterpretation of Swanheart are among them but there are more).

Very little known in her own country, Floor was revealed to the Dutch by her participation in "Beste Zangers" (Best Singers), in 2019, where she performed several songs, each dedicated to another guest on the show.

Good Evening Lady, Great Review Again, By YOU, I loved it, and what makes me so happy, is really you have only just scratched the surface of what this band can do, And Floor Jansen as a singer in other bands, and her own Solo stuff. You really need to see how Floor Stated, at just 16 years of age in her first band, who were called (After Forever) who were from the Netherlands. Floor was in the band for 12 years before they disbanded through artistic differences, I would love it, if you would do a request for me, Band called (After Forever) Doing a song Called (Dream Flight), Live at Prog Power, in the USA in 2007, and its great Quality Video. Floor was around 26/27 years old then, It will take your Breath away, trust me, I only live on Pensions, so money is very tight for me. but I will try and save for it, Thank You. You doing a great Job.

Do try some of Floor's solo efforts. The Lady Gaga song Shallow from the Beste Zangers TV show is amazing and it is here on RUclips. Also Nightwish with Tarja their original singer's version of Phantom of the Opera (the one with the yellow dress).

There is another point that I want to make about Nightwish in general. Yes Yes Yes Floor is very very good BUT!!!!!!! She can't do justice to most of the Tarja's songs few exceptions. Nightwish started 1996 and Tarja Turunen was their vocals till 2005. From 2007 to 2012 it was Anette Olzen. To me the real Nightwish died 2005. Floor Jansen from 2012 on. Note there was few years gap where the band was lost in their own doing. You can read about it sad really as so much wrong was done to the singer. Anyway check Tarja. For example:

There are no other bands of this caliber. Nightwish with Floor is a 10 (At least thru 2020, until they lost Marco), Jinjer is about a 5. I just don't understand how anybody like's the dog woman singer in the Jinjer band. This is my comment, I can say anything I want. LOL

PLEASE start with Band Maid "Hate" official live and Lovebites "Holy War" Tokyo 2020 live. The next two deep rabbit holes, following by Babymetal, leading to Electric Callboy (German) and The Warning (Mexican). You haven't even scratched the surface. So let's go!!!!!! 😂
