  • How to install a double din #android head unit in a first-generation #ToyotaTacoma. This head unit is made by #Pumpkin and this tutorial will also cover how to install the back-up camera, navigation antenna, hands-free microphone, and wifi antenna. I have installed Pumpkin’s previous version in a Ford Ranger and if you’re seeking more info for a different vehicle, be sure to check it out. This is Pumpkin’s new Android 9.0 interface, 8 core processor, 4gig of RAM and 32gig of storage. I’ll be releasing a review video next week, so be sure to keep an eye out for that, I’ll cover all the features with a complete walkthrough. Here’s a comparison between the new head unit and the factory Toyota unit, this will fit in the dashboard with slight modifications. The factory mounting brackets also work with a mild modification as well. Included with the head unit is iso harness, I have already installed the Toyota specific harness which you’ll see in a bit, there are also two inline fuses which are a slightly different design than compared to their older unit, micro usb cable, extended usb cable, double usb cable, wifi antenna, hands-free microphone, back up camera, video cable for the backup camera, generic brackets with fasteners, and gps antenna.

    Great video. Very detailed and well paced. I followed your instructions including buying the wiring harness for my 2003 Tacoma, but I only get sound from the rear speakers. Truck is new to me so I don't know if that was the case before I replaced the radio.
    Thinking about swapping them back out to see what the difference is.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hey I'm thinking of following this tutorial! One question I have is this: how awkward is it having the head unit that low? Do you have glare problems with that model? I have a 2003 manual Tacoma and I'm worried the shifter will interfere with interacting with the head unit. Any advice?

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  11 месяцев назад

      I never had any issues and I’m 5’11”. As for your truck being a manual, shouldn’t be anymore of a problem than compared to your stock radio. It’s in the same position as the factory radio.

    Question for anyone who might be able to help. I installed my first head unit today in my 03 tacoma and it wouldn't turn on. I checked and double checked the wiring diagram and found out that the pins for the power antenna are non existant in ny factory harness. A friend suggested taping the blue wire into the red acc to get it to work and what do you know it did. The problem now is the radio wont turn off. Anyone know how to fix this?

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  2 года назад

      Do you have an antenna booster? If not, there's no need to use the antenna wire. If your unit is not powering up, you need to connect to the switched ignition wire. Considering your head unit is not turning off now, it sounds like you're connected to the constant 12v source which is wrong, that's needed for the memory of the head unit but not as the main operation.

    • @samemo4862
      @samemo4862 2 года назад +1

      @@4DIYers hi thanks for the reply i got it sorted yesterday. There is no antenna booster. By taping the blue line into the red acc i accidentally made a loop that kept sending power to the unit telling it to stay on. The original problem of it not turning on was most likely a bad connection. Basically fixed it by doing the wrong thing the second time and making a good connection on the wrong wire. I removed the blue line re connected the red line and now its all good.
