You know people such as what your doing takes for granted that everyone knows the tools. But you where considerate to realize this and explain what vice grips are and what they look like.its amazing how someone will take on a project with proper direction . Good work.
So glad I found your video. I am just about to upgrade to a touch screen for a backup camera and now I have to copy this design. This is the best thing ever! Thank you!!
He's using a on-off-on switch. Looks like the cameras are not tapped into the reverse lights, so all the switch is switching between is the 2x RCA connections between cameras. You can also do this by using a 5 pin relay to switch between the rca connections
You can also achieve the same effect by using a 5 pin relay where 87a is the main camera, 30 is connected to head unit, and 87 is connected to the 2nd camera. You can use a regular rocker switch to activate the relay. This will result in a overriding the main camera with the 2nd camera.
@@OverlandUnderBudget any news on a wiring video ? Interested to see the split cameras. Having electric controls instead of cables and the radio position, shows the minor differences between the Tacoma and a Hilux. Thanks for the vids from Down Under
i guess im asking the wrong place but does someone know a way to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost the password. I would love any tricks you can offer me.
Great stuff! I have the same first gen double cab taco as you, and am in the middle of kitting it out for overlanding on a budget. Your videos give a ton of inspiration, keep up the good work!
Would love to see how you wired up the front and rear cameras to one input, I’m thinking of doing the same on my truck! Awesome innovation with the dash construction!
You’re a genius. Obviously, when Toyota put the radio on the bottom was not thinking about the future. The location where the radio right now is way too low for a modern double din 7” screen today with navigation. I was thinking the same thing as well to move the climate controls down and the radio up. I will see where I end up with this project. Great job.
Also, having had a 1st gen taco in my youth... I agree 100% with what you said about the positioning of everything in the center console. It was a small part of the reason I switched to a 3rd gen 4runner haha. (also because it was a 2wd taco)
That looks so good. That screen is huge and so nice looking! Seems like a great deal on the head unit. I was looking at going with an android head unit a couple years ago, but ended up going with a double din Sony running carplay/android auto- it was like $125 (used) vs $250-300 for the android unit. I'd love to hear a review of that head unit after you've used it for a while! I like mine, but that huge screen is really tempting!
@@goofygamezmcpe-gtav5016 I picked up a Sony XAV-AX200 from eBay with a tiny scratch on the screen. I see them on there right now for around $200. Could probably get them for cheaper if you wait it out. I think the AX-100, AX-200, AX-1000 and AX-5000 are all pretty similar and show up used pretty often.
Been looking at Android Auto head units since your IG post, and now with this video i've finally pulled the trigger on one. So thank you and damn you at the same time lol
Overland Under Budget: Nice work on the install and the video. I was wondering how this Android In dash unit is doing now that it's been in for 1 year. I read the reviews on Amazon and some were not so great. How has your experience been ? Would you do a follow up video on it or if its been perfect and trouble free just let us know here. Thanks!
Great work! I wanna do this in my 1997 Grand Cherokee. Could you show how you secured it back to the dash? Did you use the old clips somehow or conver to screws?
Boy you know what you just did, you need to patent that. And possibly start your own business on custom dashboard. That is ingenious. I have a 04 Tacoma Prerunner. And that's why I never changed out my radio cuz the very fact it was too low. You really need to look in on see how you can start your own business doing this
Thank you kindly! I really appreciate that, when you start making things by hand you instantly have a much greater appreciation for quality! it's really hard to achieve.
Hi, I’ve got a 1st gen sequoia I’m wanting to do something similar to. I really thought this whole time it was a iPad or something. Knowing now it’s a double din, I’m lost..how is it mounted in there with it sticking out from the dash? Would really like to see behind the screen. Great job.
great content! Im looking for the exact same thing, but i want to retro fit 2004 GMC denali. did you look into any new rear cameras, as your not happy with this one?
I’m thinking of doing the same thing sorta but build it off the original plastic and use fiberglass to mold it sort of like this, then can just reroute the ducting to lower vents. How do you like that radio so far? Looks really good in there, way better than the boss touchscreen I currently have. & when you switch to camera modes, does it happen to cut off your music? I hate that about mine right now!
I'm going to attempt this mod in the next few months. If you were to do it all over again, start to finish - is there anything you would make a major change to? Overall it seems like it was well thought out and very well executed.
Another awesome project man. It so cool what some common sense and a can do attitude can achieve. Do you have a wiring diagram for the double switches and cameras etc? ✌🏽

I like it but here in Texas, covering up the AC vents is suicide. Curious to see what could be a work around for that?
diverting/repiping to a set of vents under the dash, pointing up -- like some of the vintage/classic car setups might work.

1. What are you using for an amp to play music? (It appears the stereo is gone.)
2. What ball mount on a track did you use?
