I actually think this is a very handsome watch
Thanks for the thought! :)
I agree , I love the watch and they are now discontinued so they will go up in price 🎉 in the near future 😊
I wore this watch all my highschool life, and didn't know about the Mission Impossible part lol
Haha well, now you do :)
Nice comprehensive review! For some strange reason I find the kind of certain hexagonal-ish design of this watch kind of nice and more unique than the boxy F91W
Good point - more unique for sure!
I thought "real" secret agents wore submariners! Jokes aside, it's a cool watch, just got a tough solar and I love it. Everyone needs at least one Casio.
Rolex is gone... real agents wear Seamasters these days :)
Thanks again Derek... and yes, everyone needs a Casio!
Ha ha, it's true. At least they're not wearing _insert your least favorite watch brand here_!!!
Got the vintage look , beast of a watch , can’t beat it
Nice :)
It's not ugly dude.... it's practical, utilitarian and operationally discreet.
It’s butt ugly
why do a cover on something you think is ugly
Ah but true beauty is beyond skin deep 😆
@@PerthWAtch aha very true!! I think it’s a great watch anyway. Good luck to you and your channel
Thank you 👍
It's fugly. In a good way. I don't know why but i'm deeply attracted to this watch. Just ordered one :)
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :)
This is a pretty old design. Whilst it may have been updated it's basically the first watch I owned with electro luminescence (circa1996) Loaned it to a friend to take away on special forces training. He passed, and the watch never missed a beat. It gets criticism for being basic, but it had a better backlight than my DW5600 of the time.
Thanks for sharing those thoughts! Hard to beat the EL lighting even with today's modern LED backlights I reckon! Special forces... I have no knowledge of that, guessing it must've been gruelling?
A think 12 years is real.
since 82 i have owned about 5 assorted casio digitals and one analog diver. I owned the original 1983 g shock =dw 5600 , it never died, i sold it , then i got the DW 6600 their most popular navy seal G shock which unfortunately they discontinued, but after the about 10 yrs the 6600 rotted and died. I still like the gshock but strictly wanted the 6600 again, but couldnt get it,so i bought this DW290 because it had the same menu and met my needs. I also liked it because it is WIDER and slimmer, so it fit well under my shirt sleeves. For $28 it was a great purchase. I also purchased a very popular analog diver for $38 which i love (the Duro Marlin) model # MDV-106 (module #2784). Both of these are BIG and the cases measure 46mm from
side to side. The 106 is a TRUE diver watch with a screw down back , a screw down crown with a rubber grommet so it wont leak, and super thick mineral glass face that does not scratch. Casio makes very nice watches.
Thanks for sharing your ownership history, that's great to hear, I always enjoy hearing about others' collecting experiences.
I think the Casio Duro Marlin is a 44mm case actually, and also FYI for many watch enthusiasts, the mark of a "true diver" (if there really is such a thing) is ISO 6425 compliance. I suspect the Duro will meet the standards but as it is Casio have not forked out to get that certification (usually denoted by "Diver's XXXm" if so, and a higher price).
I'm 56, It's pretty cool in a retro way.
Very nice!
I've had my eye on it for a while, as a fan of Mission Impossible I may just pull the trigger. I just wish it was Jean Reno wearing it Lol.
Thanks for that... haha why Jean Reno and not Tom Cruise?
Not to take anything away from Cruise but Reno is a brilliant actor and steals the show in MI for me.
Interesting point... I will have to go back at watch closely again. They casted him as an antagonist so somehow I didn't like his face! :)
BTW, I have a DW290-1V working it's way to me right now =) Your video tipped me over the edge Lol.
Haha awesome - well do let us know what you think when it arrives! :)
Definitely a relation of my first Casio, the discontinued W-725.
Cool!
I have the same watch I bought in 1996 with the blue trim ring and not the newer red one like in the video. Still works after all these years
That’s amazing - how many times have you had to change the battery?
@@PerthWAtch After being in storage for some years I am on my 4th battery, and yes, I lost the speaker spring
Oh is that what that spring is for?? How does it relate to the speaker?
@@PerthWAtch it makes contact with the piezo speaker on the cover
Thanks - I might’ve learnt something new!
When I bought this years ago, I didn't even know it was worn by Mr Scientology. Anyway, I've since passed it on to my son. Got the 100M version instead ;-)
I think he was probably forced to wear it during the film, and did so reluctantly :P
This watch was first introduced in 1989 and it is a diver's watch. If you look at the strap, you can see it's a diver strap. It also is water-resistant to 200M.
That's an interesting view... I wonder where you get those ideas from? This watch isn't really marketed as a diver and certainly wouldn't have been tested to dive standards. Also there no design standard for what a "diver strap" should look like... you could use leather if you so choose!
@@PerthWAtch I have been diving all my life. To be exact, 35 years. When this watch first came out it was introduced as a diver in many diver shops. I have used it many times for that reason and have never seen it fail. I have used the original G-Shock too with no issues. just because a watch is not ISO rated is does't mean you can take it Scuba Diving. Have you ever been Scuba Diving?
@@PerthWAtch Oh, and about the strap, you would have to be a diver to know what a diver strap's for I guess!
Good to know - I'm just not sure this would be used by professionals today, going by what I read. I have been diving myself, but I'm certainly not a pro. I never said that you can't use non ISO standard watches for diving... Submariners and Seamasters are not subjected to those tests, for example.
Regarding the strap... oh well, sounds like a trade secret then ;)
I wish Australian reviewrs consider their Australian audience when quoting watch prices as of writing this the DW-290 is available thru one online seller for $143 no aussie at the moment can buy this watch new for $25 that’s a joke…..!
Aussie viewers make up about 10% of my audience, with US being the lions share. Aussies also spend plenty of time consuming US content, so we get used to prices being quoted in USD. That’s what I’ll keep doing.
As for the price, mate I can only go by what was fact at the time of recording - I can’t predict the future price of these things and will not be trying to.
This was my very first watch. I bought this watch when I was 8 or 9 years old, from K Mart. I stopped wearing it some years later and lost it. I was searching on Amazon last week and I found it(surprised it hadn't been long discontinued). I didn't hesitate and I bought it. This year I also purchased a Rolex 2 tone submariner. I'm currently wearing my Casio and I can tell you that I'm getting more joy out of wearing this blast from the past Casio(I'm 30 now)!
Lucky you - how in the world did you get that Sub? From dealer or was it aftermarket?
@@PerthWAtch It definitely wasn't new! Haha I got my local jeweler to find me one. Cool story behind the Rolex also. Like I mentioned earlier, I turned 30 this year so I wanted to get myself something special. Went to my jeweler a few weeks before my birthday and told them I was looking for a vintage sub for my birthday. A couple calls later, they locate me a 1992 model(my birth year is 1991 so I'm thinking, close enough!). Fast forward to the day after my birthday, watch comes in, I go pick it up and I'm over the moon with my very first Rolex. I get home and I'm looking at warranty paperwork and I come across the serial number of the watch. I take said serial number and do the look up, turns out my watch is indeed a 1991 model. I'm even happier now that I was able to find a 30 year old Rolex for my 30th birthday!
Haha that’s awesome! I’m wondering if the price was reasonable? Good condition models in demand can sell for rather high asking prices…
@@PerthWAtch I paid $12,000 just box no papers. I know I overpaid but the watch maker that the watch was sourced from, did a complete service and put a 2 year warranty on it. So I'm happy with the peace of mind.
That’s not necessarily overpriced provided it is in good condition - popular vintage Rolex, including two-tone Subs, will always have a demand and therefore command certain prices.
If you like this one, I just stumbled on another, not as much water resistance or any movie claim to fame, but also has a funky look. It's called the W7401V, looks like it came out in the same era.
Yeah that one sure looks like a cousin :)
its a great watch! im happy with mine
Thanks for the comment - glad you have found it enjoyable!
Casio- greatest watches on the planet!! Prefer a G-Shock 5600 e solar classic but cool review:)
Thanks for that Na Na :)
Nice watch, i heard many times that those letters on that watch wear off very easily, i would try not to touch them.
I would fail ;)
Does the strap feel a bit uncomfortable? People say it literally digs into your skin
It was ok for me. But overall Casio resin straps are definitely not to everyone’s liking.
lanbo owners should have this match with the air vents in the car
Haha ok... TBH I think you lost me there!
@@PerthWAtch I mean the air vents in Lamborghinis are in hexagon shape, kinda same as this watch, in fact lambo uses a lot of hexagons in their design, so it would be a perfect match for owners to wear this watch which interestingly enough also has a "transformers" type of feeling
Ah haha ok I see where you're coming from now!
Hi i live in queensland just letting you know that i have the Gw79oob 1 black version and the clear version atomic ant they pick up signal from Tokyo every night i just leave on window sill
Cool, very good to know - which part of Queensland are you in?
@@PerthWAtch Brisbane
We live in a 2 story house
Cool, that is really interesting to hear that you're not in north QLD and that the signal can be received in the capital. I seem to recall reading elsewhere that it's a bit touch and go in Brisbane itself, but somewhere like Cairns it's more consistent. Amazing the signal reaches down so far from Japan!
@@PerthWAtch Every night as long as i leave them on the window cell
I thought it was the G-shock 5300 in this movie?
Apparently not
Guys if ur in to Casio watches all you will ever need is the gwm5610 it's nice and slim and has a shit load of features
Even if you’re not into Casio, that model is one darn cool G-Shock :)
Perth WAtch yup it is the best g shock imo
What about the shocking popular FULL METAL G?
Perth WAtch nah I like the resin look looks more tactical and more robust which makes no different to me because I'm sat behind a computer all day for a living 😂😂
Perth WAtch oh yeh forgot to tell you that I subbed you have a nice channel keep up the good work
Cheers for the review Ivan. I agree with your comments.. Its kinda ugly (in a strange way - maybe g shocks look nicer) but then id also own one haha :)
Haha yeah it's like a mutant mutt mashup from cross breeding :)
Incredible value tough watch!
Amazing!!
Nice review 👍🙂👍
Thanks :)
i bought one 3 hours ago
Now it’s 7 hours ago haha!
It’s discontinued now , so it has some value in the near future 🎉
Yeah my 2007 Civic had been discontinued by the time I tried to sell it, but I couldn’t convince anyone to pay me more than what I paid for it 😂😂
Um relógio bom pra viajar no tempo 😊😊😊
English translation reads “a good watch for time travel” 🤣
This is a beautiful watch.
Really? I thought it rather ugly actually…
@@PerthWAtch It's beautiful in an unorthodox, off the beaten track kinda way.
Ugly but adorable
In the impossible mission is the Dw 5300
What?
sorry, I think I was wrong
dw290 and marlin duro are both 46 mm wide, not 44
Er ok sure... I used calipers and my measurements were 47mm and 44mm respectively, but "to each his own" I guess ;)
Reminds me of stormtrooper armor honestly.
Huh?
Tenho um relógio dê mergulho de silicone 😊😊😊viajo nó tempo com ele e um companheiro estimado
Very good!
it's now close to $45- $50
Amazing
its amazing watches! :)
Yeah man! :)

What??
@@PerthWAtch it means the watch is great and very beneficial for travellers👍😊, i speak sundanese as my mother language, tks for asking😀🤗
@@rudysuryaman839 Cool!
What’s the battery life ? How many years
Dunno man, maybe 5 at least
How about the battery? Is it ten year? Two year? 5 year?
Battery is rated at 2 years.
more than 5 year, didn't change yet
Lucky man! :)
10 years
20 years!
Excelente relógio! 👏🇧🇷
Thank you!
It's a shame that tose writings with green color "illuminator" and "200m" are so low quality, they will start to tear off after a few months of use. A 3 months old piece of this watch looks like trash. It's a shame ghat they aren't using some good quality paint, or they should not put these writings on at all, it would be much better. Overall it's a good tough watch, if you keep it on a shelf...
Thanks for sharing that. Sorry to hear that this watch caused you quite a bit of grief. I hope you are better now. Cheers, Ivan ;)
@@PerthWAtch It didn't caused anything for me, since i don't own it. I am perfectly fine with my G-Shock GW-M5610. But a friend of mine owns it, he is a big watch lover, so he has this modell. A few days ago i have seen this on his wrist, and it looked like trash. But we know it is a cheap watch, you cannot expect too much, but still... Check out this vid at 15:46, you will see.
ruclips.net/video/nDTAEKiY5vY/видео.html
Is the glass really mineral?
Is that hard to believe??
@@PerthWAtch Most of the lower end Casios and Timexes have acrylic
Only going by the info I found mate... how else do you propose to confirm if it is or not?
It is mineral - I have two of these. Probably 200m WR requires mineral glass. I think the only other low-end casios with mineral glass are the AE-2000/AE-2100 and WV-200 - also 200m WR. On a different note, this watch has countdown timer with repeat and optional flash alarm which is not on most casios, in addition to date specific alarm and EL light, so it's not that basic function-wise as claimed in this video. I find it cool looking, but fair enough not for every occasion.
So basically same as what I'm saying... Casio lists it as mineral, we can believe so.
As for "basic" or not, it's a matter of perspective... I've been dealing a lot with Casio triple sensor, tough solar, multiband-6, satellite wave, Bluetooth, ISO 6425, and what have you... from where I was sitting it was incontrovertibly "basic" on the spectrum.
Esse relógio e tamanho grande
What?
Office watch of scientology. 😉
Haha good one - The official watch of the Church of Scientology! :)
Such a ugly watch, sorry
Ugly but adorable??
@@PerthWAtch no I go for a square
Like which one?
Big mistake ?
Thees is not the same watch .
Tom cruise uses 5000 series in mission impossible.
If you say so. My extensive research indicated that it's this watch ;)
@@PerthWAtch do more research
Done plenty, and done my part - you need to provide some references ;)
