Hmmmmm. I love Casios, but perhaps not this one. At least it is cheap! I think there are better ones to choose though.

I have this Casio. It's one tough bastard of a watch. It's the watch I wear when I do any carpentry, cut the yard, work on my car, basically any type of hard labor type of work.

Not ugly at all
This looks better than the DW-5600 to me (which I also think looks great). It’s more interesting in its design and I love the color accents. It’s a perfect beater. Definitely NOT ugly. I usually align with your opinions, Jody, but I think you’re way off with this one.
I agree with some if the other people in the comments. Although it is not something you would wear in a formal setting, it still has a cool retro look to it. Great video!!!
Most Casio watches, specially the digital department, aren't made to be used as jewelry, they're made to actually be used, out there doing stuff. It's a tool

Looks like a great everyday beater. And IMHO its no fuglier than the majority of the ridiculously oversized G-Shocks available today.
I bought the DW291. They amended some of problems of this DW290: the looks (imo) it's better; the strap is curved like G-shock straps; it has a 10 yrs battery, 5 alarms, 24h timer and chronometer, world time (29 cities) etc...for 40Euros!
I think it's kind of freakishly good looking! Cool watch. Great video!

The DW-290 is an awesome watch. It's hex shape is unique. Mine is from the 90s. It has a gold screen with a silver stripe instead of the red one. It's one of my favourite watches of all time.
Ive had mine for 7 years. The strap softens over time and gets much more comfortable. 20mm perlon straps fit fine on these too
I recently purchased a DW290 and a 18mm nato strap will not fit so how can a 20mm fit?

On my 2nd one. Owned this 10 years ago, along with the 5600. Used for many years. GREAT BEATER! I'm partial to it, although looks will always be subjective. Like the 5600, very popular with the military and police force. Thank you for the vid!

I got this watch in 2004 as an spare watch and it still working, the green paint is gone so is the crappy original band. I don't use it everyday but when the job is messy, this guy rocks
Have a Casio DW-310. Been with me for over 20 years and change battery maybe 3 times, and gone many a trip overseas, kayaking, hiking what not. It just works. Not sure if Clint Eastwood’s character in Heartbreak Ridge wore one or not.
DW290 is One of my fav Casio.. i like it so much i have 2.

For those that don't like the hard strap,you can put an F91W strap directly on this watch and it is instantly more comfortable.It is an excellent fit to the case and also matches the watch well despite being slimmer.

Got this watch for my 10th birthday back in 1998, loved it!. Unfortunately My younger brother attacked it with scissors and that was the end of that.. found another in tk maxx on sale for £16.99 last year, Bought it instantly. my favourite memorable watch out of the 30+ I own. Great channel Jodie, my father and I always watch the uploads. 👍
I just found out They still make this watch I bought this when I was a young kid at Caldor I have so many fond memoriea of it I thought I was the coolest kid in school, I jist ordered another one just for the Nostalgia

I just scooped this one for $33. And I love it, man, if I could have gotten it for $24 it would have been the best bang for buck watch BY FAR.
I just got this and unlike you I love the looks of it. Much cooler than the 5600, and buttons are perfect. The strap is rubbish though as you say, so I replaced it with my Casio WS210H's strap (which now has a nato). Looks great and very comfortable. This is basically as tough as a G-shock, with mineral crystal, 200m WR, el-light. It is the only one with those specs in this price range.
Agreed better looking than the 5600.
Got 2 of these bad-ass watches. Not ugly, but its tacticool. Got one on a Nato strap.

I just got one of these today. Have been evaluating a gshock g2900 and a dw5600 negative. I prefer the dw290 to the 5600 although the strap is indeed shite. Feels as durable as the gshock though.
I remember buying this from Argos as a kid in the 90s. Gonna have to get it again.
Got mine now. Sat on a 19mm Hirsch pvd NATO strap. I 🖤🖤🖤it.

You could always opt for the follow-up Casio DW291 and if anyone asks, tell them, "this retro design was inspired by non other than Robby the Robot from the 1956 sci-fi classic...Forbidden Planet"...as you slowly edge out of the room.

Eh, i still love mine. It’s a really tough and durable watch, so that’s all I need. I’ve even taken it to diving trips and, it held up like a champ
Although I'm a G-Shock square fan, I bet you can give this 290 a good kicking and it will come out the other side intact. For the price, surely unbeatable.

i have this watch as a backup watch ... always in my briefcase or backpack.... will use it whenever it rains heavily and i need to swop it to replace my dress watch or more expensive vintage watches/ pilot watches to avoid water penetration via rain or storm
Did the same. Now i have clost full if fancy watches. The dw 290 is on wrist always. Leave the fancy for the casino or special outings

Currently it cost $10 more on Amazon. How about the strap, Is it durable? I'm between G-Shock DW6900-1V for $46 and this one for $34.
It wears well on the wrist. Ultimate 90’s watch...one of the most 90 esque designs period of all consumer products. Paul Newman wore one....
It's funny to look at this $24 watch 6 years later and see it's $40 now. A sign of out of control inflation perhaps.

Waiting for DW 5600 upcoming review. please make it at least 15 minutes.
Thanks for the review. Was looking at getting this and your honest review has steered me away from this watch. I'll stick with my G-Shock G-5600UE-1 and get the bull bars for it. See if I can find a nylon/NATO strap for it as it doesn't sit quite right. My Rangeman GW-9400 broke after pulling it apart to fix the triple sensor, anyway beyond repair now. The G-5600UE-1 is nice but a bit small. Considering getting the G-Shock GXW-56-1B positive display or a G-6900 with the bigger buttons.

It does have a certain charm, kinda like what you'd see in an 80's or 90's sci-fi flick or video game. Not that I would buy it but I'm not shutting it out either. At $24 I might consider it, but where I live it's going for $40, and at that price, I dunno.
Personally though, I'd get the GA-2100. Really nice and takes cues from the Royal Oak.
Edit - 3 days later this watch is starting to grow on me. And I suppose it is a bit of an iconic watch that watch people will recognize. And 200M water resistance for $24 is amazing!

It's one of my favourite Casio watches.
Got to say I actually disagreed with the outcome of this review I actually picked one up for around $22 and had my watch repairer throw on a 20mm rubber dive band and shave it down to 19mm and I think it just looks like a million bucks and I actually ended up really liking the looks of it but changing the band made all the difference

Meh. The DW5600 is awesome, I love mine. As for watches with sorta weird shapes that actually look good, The DW6900 and DW9052 are both awesome.
