My theory is that "drone carrier" is a technological demonstrator to test drone operations, specifically drone launching and recovery, not an actual operational drone carrier. As such, it doesn't need a large hanger deck, which would be required for actual combat operations.
With regards to launching and recovering, a consideration would be the catamaran speed. Sailing high speed into the wind may faciliate drone launching and recover depending on their stall speeds on short runways.

For all intent or Purpose, it might not operating UCAV as traditional carrier "per se"
rather than carry UAV like Reaper or byakathar
It carry Suicide Drone like Shahed or Loitering munitions like "naval" lancets
Amphibious support not Sea Control - role
from Dimension, it could easily carry and launch 100 shahed. stored in container like racks bellow deck

Turkey already has their drone carrier ready to start sea trials if I recall last year. Their carrier was supposed to host F-35B's but US refused to sell them to Turkey so it will only carry helicopters and drones, supposedly the world's first fighter aircraft drones.

I don't think the wingspan issue is that severe. If it veers off course, it's not like the wings will get sheared off (unless it literally hits the island). If the tips of the wings go past the runway boundaries, nothing will happen. It's not like there's anything there to hit (besides the island).
I suspect that the reduced size of this drone carrier is to make it more expendable. Modern naval warfare favors the offense. It's always easier to hit a ship with a missile than to hit a missile with a missile. So making ships as small as possible while fulfilling the basic requirements is the way to go. Ships of this size, 100 meters long, can be manufactured very quickly in batches, like frigates. And since drones don't require trained pilots, staffing them will be much less of an issue.

Perhaps armed drones with full load of fuel can be an issue.

    • @sparkzbarca
      @sparkzbarca 3 месяца назад +3

It is not in fact automatically easier to hit a ship with a missile than a missile with one.
Missiles contain very little to often no electronic counter measures.
Nuclear aircraft carrier battle groups contain all of them in existence.
The fact is you cannot target an aircraft carrier due to EW from the distances needed.
GPS does not work within a carrier EW bubble.
live video feed does not work.
Radar would work given you close in but of course before you reach the carrier there exist combat air patrols and AWACS that will see you on approach.
But then again you don't have GPS or video so your going to need to use AI pilots for the drones plus interial guidance sensors like gyros and radio distance finder to determine distance to ground/sea and if you want to maintain swarming with the other drones you will need laser uplinks to keep them all in the loop and they will need to be made out of stealthy components except if you use naturally low visibility stuff like let's just say cardboard that wouldn't survive a week at sea but even if you use let's go plastics those will make it much easier for existing anti drone weapons because we already have the ability to target and fry drones electronics quite easily. Unshielded they'd be useless so now you need metal but that means you need to shape it to stealth and Jesus this is now getting heavy we'll need bigger wings and fuel and a larger motor and oh yay it's now literally more expensive than the missile that intercepts it.
1500 dollar drones make complete sense for reaching out a few miles.
Across the 500 miles you'd need to cross of open ocean to reach a carrier battle group, it's pointless.

anyone who is serious to consider how various equipments will impact the direction of war, will be far more concerned about how fast those equipments can be manufactured every year, instead of certain amout of equipment one country has at a given time. In such sense, necessary production capability, ability to expand the infrastructure, skilled workers, manufacturing lead time, maintenance lag time etc are crucial factors to evaluate. Stalin was negotiating with Roosevelt and Churchill on post war arrangements while German troops were still outside Moscow. The confidence came fromt the fact that both Soviet and US annual production of war aircrafts exceeded 2000 while Germany made far below 2000s every year and shrinking. As a chinese I hope the hot headed warmongers in some western countris do please take the above into consideration, and not to incite conflicts similar to Ukrain in Asia. Asian cultures are slow in decision making process, but once direction is set, they will not easily change the course either and ask for maximum sacrifice from its people and fight with lasting endurance. It is perfectly acceptable if you do not like sertain country or people, its your democratic right as a citizen of the planet, but miscalculation caused by simplification and distortion due to propaganda will have dire concequence on common people, and it is the common people who will suffer most. I beg the most learned, intetellectural and patriotic readers of the channerl to review the Korean war chapter and use the brilliant US soilders wisely.

I don't think there is a risk of US attacking China. We've seen in Ukraine that there is a great deal of hesitancy and caution about even having the appearance of supporting the direct attack of Russia, even by proxy. US would saber rattle and sanction and raise a fit because it's only the USA that can attack and invade other nations - but toe to toe would most likely spell the destruction of the planet.

Perhaps China figured out any amphibious landing needs protection from a kamikaze drone swarm. The high speed of the catamaran hull would help to position itself where its hundreds of anti-drone drones swarming everywhere within 10 km provides protection. Right now drone swarms are quickly getting bigger. They are like the introduction of tanks during WW1 (a few of them were used with lessons learned, then a large number were used together in one battle with much improved combined tactics for overwhelming success).

wow, I had to stop once the voice said the US Navy can't do normal launch and recovery simultaneously 'like China'... either they don't know the words for 'normal flight ops' or don't know US Navy Carrier doctrine. US Carriers have 4 catapults, and an angled deck to allow recoveries while we launch. We launch and recover AS NORMAL FLIGHT OPS. As for a 'dedicated drone ship'? Yeah, one task design ships only work for some tasks like salvage, oiler, ammo ships.... Considering the size of that ship, it doesn't look safe in blue waters.... and I'm positive a US Navy Carrier can carry a lot more drones than that thing could.

Perhaps a small landing platform will serve as a transit/refueling pad for helicopters between the mainland and Taiwan or islands in S China Sea. Also there will be a need to launch smaller sized drone swarms. Such a large deck could simultaneously launch hundreds of militarized drones (think in terms of DJI’s finest quad copters but 1 meter propeller blades & carrying 10 times the weight). Or perhaps the small decks will allow continuous presence of helicopter/quadcopter within 100 km. The catamaran hull should be stable in rough seas and allow decent speed in littoral waters surrounding Taiwan and in South China Sea.

@@user-mhgu6om9mj2t i didnt say this specific one was cg. Most are though however. A lot of concept stuff that looks good on paper, but not practical in use. Read again with better glasses. Over the years its exactly what has happened time and time again. Its what happens when you let a two faced mentality populous work alongside you trying to make relations better. They just end up taking all the work youve done, and stab you in the back with it due to something they cant get over and hold grudges over rather than trying to move forward. Its definitely showing today more than ever peace was never chinas goal, it was to take over as much it could. People can call b.s. on that all they want but its constantly trying to grab new land to expand its borders. Makes trade deals it know the ones its making deals with have no possible way to pay them back just for the purpose of gaining control over them instead of trying to actually help anything beside itself. Usa of course make deals that were benificial to it but at the same time helped others where we could and even some that didnt benifit us. China hasnt done anything but try to trap anyone and everyone it can into owing it so it has diplomatic power and is on a set course of if they cant have it then noone can, and are showing by their researches and zero limits, especially ones that are very taboo for anyone with a brain not good areas to mess with like bio weapons, genetic and bioengineering, chemical warfare, nuclear, and anything amd everything. Unlike the usa who stopped developing new nuclear weapons on a good gesture to set level to at least start moving away from wars with such destructive weapons in a path for peace between nations. Most of the world was doing pretty well as far as how well globalisation was working. Yeah conflicts here and there but for the population of earth, not really that bad at all when compared to history.
Back to the point though, most things china shows off are either not even operational, parked somewhere and not in use, or in concept form in a animation showing what has been drawn up, which a lot of the time is something stolen from others. China may not consider it stealing, but the majority of the world does. China acts like it wants to move forward and do good for the world but everyday it keeps inching everyone closer to the next world war with its immature antics it tries to act like is nothing but is hostility. Like come on a weather satellite it claims, then immediately after it comes online like any spoiled kid with no self control runs and shows everyone it lied by showing a picture of the usa carriers in a dock, great job admiting your word means nothing and cant be trusted as it showed exactly what it was really for, spy satellite, but sad thing is, we already expected theres spy sats out there so if china just got theirs out there then its further behind than what could be expected. A population of 1.4b vs a population of little under 400m, and a history of 5000 years, china should be much more advanced long ago, not playing catch up and then act as condescending as it does.
One thing i do find funny though, it keeps trying to buy land in the usa thinking it becomes chinas, but our land doesnt work that way. Just like in china, foreignors cant buy land here for keeps. When the united states became the united states, an agreement was made that once each state was locked in to being part of the united, they couldnt receed or change ownership. That means any trade of land that would transfer the land over to another nation is not allowed as it would breach that original agreement. So its basically just a rental agreement at best.

Perhaps China will perfect precision autonomous drone landings using quick reaction large flaps and an additional rudder on top of the fuselage at the front. To avoid the Island, drones don’t have to land in the middle of the runway; their landing gear could touch down 2 or 3 meters from the deck edge with one wing over the deck and the other wing sticking out past the deck.

The issues with catamarans is that they can't go into the deep ocean. Meaning that the Chinese drone carrier is best used from brown water or green water operations (i.e. rivers or near the shore). It depends on the size of the drones you want to launch, but I think a dedicated drone carrier isn't the best idea. Currently, the US Navy is working on integrating deone operations alongside manned aircraft. This means that the drones are launched from regular aircraft carriers alongside Navy fighter jets. This seems far more efficient imo, than a dedicated drone carrier.

The Fujian better be the last of those expensive behemoths; oh and China better not go the nuclear powered ship path, the battles will be held near China, those things sinking would be an environmental disaster!

drone carriers are not an adequate replacement for larger fleet/super carriers, mainly to carry aircraft too large and heavy for these small drone carriers. Keep in mind that small drones have much more limited range, speed, and payload than larger aircraft do, and there are no drones out there capable of replacing AWAC aircraft, which are a vital component in any air force and naval air arm.

mostly not a bettle ship, for maritime drone, a much bigger one will be favorable, even GZ11 is not big enough. small drone fly slower and lower which means higher risk of being intercepted, carries little anti ship missile even much smaller than yj83 which means no harm to 8000ton destroyers,
a mig 21 sized drone with a internal bombing bay will be more favorable, if it are stealthy and can carry at least a yj62 will be better, this kind of thing requires at least the size of 076, wing-loong 2 can do nothing on sea, you can not expect sink an enermy destroyer with agm114 hellfire, it can fly for 12 hours -- before meet enermy SM2, that thing will shoot down wingloong 2 in 180 seconds

@@tvgerbil1984 sensors are still heavy in weight and huge in size
an advanced aesa radar with range of more than hundreds kilometers beyond range of American carrier group optical can easily affected by bad weather
at least a wz8 or GZ11 or MQ58 sized drone can actually carry this kind of thing, these drones are not small at all
you may think about numbers may make up for this but how many smaller drones can warship actually carries, that is the problem
how many drones can finally survive and guide anti ship missiles is actually counts

Apparently nobody listened to video and did any real research.
In reality, the Chinese ship is in NO WAY capable of deploying a "swarm" of explosive drones. That's not the purpose. The purpose is to carry maybe up to two dozen full size drones and support helicopters in order to counter beach landings.
Essentially it's a smaller, quicker aircraft carrier that can launch light aircraft in order to defend against marine assault forces.
If any military wanted to just launch a swarm of small drones then they could do that from virtually any warship. Dedicating an entire ship to swarm drones is nonsense. They are creating individual missiles that can break open into hundreds of explosive target-seeking drones. A couple pods that launch those will eventually be on every ship.

Underwater drone technology and deep sea research which the Chinese have been doing for decades now will pose a nightmare to enemy submarines in the Western Pacific. With the satellites monitoring the entire region, China must ensure that those who come for war and including the 313 military bases, will never have a chance to have the next mess. You have no idea what those words even mean do you?
10,000 drones would be useless to engage a carrier battle group and 3,000 hypersonic missiles would cost something on the order of 100 billion Dollars.
Which makes it about as expensive as ALL ELEVEN AIRCRAFT CARRIERS IN THE US FLEET.
so your proposal is to launch 12 carriers worth of disposable munitions at a battle group.
With by he way still no guarantee of success

The sole aim is never to let the warmongers see the sunshine again.

@@sparkzbarca By the most conservative estimates, China already has anywhere between 5 to 10 million drones of all shapes and sizes plus 10,000 to 30,000 hypersonic missiles of various ranges backed by 100,000 or more ballistics and cruise missiles. The 313 military bases around China have been under constant surveillance by Chinese satellites. Moreover, China's telecommunication technology is top notched and America's jamming technology isn't really up to par. However, the Chinese will never be the one to fire the first shot.
