Ahh yes. Just like how Shenzhen economic zone is the experiment into market economy. The 051B is the experiment into big surface ship building.
In some ways, this ship is indicative of the last 30 years of growth of the Chinese Navy
from 051B to now 055..... not many navies can upgrade their ships at such breakneck speed
32 cell VLS, 16x supersonic AShM, towed array sonar, and can carry 2 helos, that's enough to go toe to toe with most ships in SE Asia.
None of the SE Asian country has a Destroyer that is more than 6500 tonnes

It is funny you should say that because both Malaysia and Indonesia enjoy very good relationships with China. Malaysia has no real disputes with China in the SCS and Petronas is happily drilling oil there and China is happily buying their oil. Indonesia literally is part of the BRI and has the first HSR in SE Asia built by China.
In fact, the only country in SE Asia that has a problem with China is Philippines and they are inviting a wolf in our midst, the US which is trying to turn Philippines into another proxy against China. Its president has the stolen assets of the Philippines people still in Hawaii. Guess what, they are Catholic, not Muslims.

Indonesia and Malaysia have no problem with China. Indonesia is part of BRI and likely a strong candidate for BRICS. Malaysia is happily selling the oil it drilled up in the SCS to China.
Meanwhile the catholic bozo of a country, Philippines is fast becoming a dog of the US, threatening the region's security by inviting a wolf into our midst.
I think it will be great if you can do a historical view on the PLAN destroyer evolution since the 90s. Last time the overview that you did on the Chinese naval shipyards was awesome. These kinds of big picture perspective are very valuable and few people in the west like to make videos that are fair to the history of the PLAN.

051B has been and will always be a testing platform for PLAN’s new technologies.

The term I like to use for these ships is "a technological testbed".
The 051b was sent on all the foreign port calls because it was the biggest ship at the time that China could reliably maintain and supply spare parts for the engine. Everything else at the time used some American or Russian engine that they needed to save the operating life on if an actual war started.
With the obviously deteriorating relations between China and the US, one wonders just how fast China can build frigates, destroyers and submarines. I suppose we may well find out, soon enough, in view of Anthony Blinken's very inflammatory public statements re. the relationship, whilst still on Chinese territory.

With the current economic, political and social turmoils in China, these ships are nothing more than diversion, a political statement from Xi Jinping who may no longer be in power before its actual operational capabilities ae realized, Chinese people deserve better governance and leadership more than anything else. #CCPDaysAreNumbered
Chinese can build warships very fast and in different types but american has to chose if it produces subs or ships. Very sad
Providing the hull can accommodate further upgrades, why not use the Shenzen as a continuing development platform? There's no reason why this process could not be repeated, and the integration information and experience would be very useful in trying out new sensor and weapon system combinations, solving operational and installation problems, before fleet - wide roll-out. Far more efficient than using front-line vessels, whilst maintaining an acceptable level of capability.
Presumably if their not complete ijits, they would have reserved something like something like 200 to 400 tons of buyoancy for upgrades. 😊
Not big enough for that. European Navies are launching FFGs that are 6000+ tons.

All the designs of PLA's large destroyers today are derived from the DDG Shenzhen ship. It is the beginning of the legend.
The best destination for 051B is being acquired by Thailand, Pakistan, and African countries. This modified ship can easily enhance the capabilities of the navies of the relevant countries. The most important thing is affordability. The Navy version of the Hongqi-16C has a basic range of 70 kilometers and a maximum range of 160 kilometers (for missile replacement). 1130 goes without saying, it is now the best close range gun in the world. YJ12B has a full range of ultra-low altitude supersonic speeds, up to 4 times the speed of sound, and a range of 400 kilometers (equipped with 16 missiles). This ship also has a fleet command system for 051B. Although this ship is 24 years old, its combat capability is very strong. It can be sold for 250 million US dollars, equipped with ammunition. In this way, we can change the name of the improved Type 055 to Shenzhen, which would be better if it were a nuclear powered aircraft carrier. It is best to sell all 052052B and 052C. Recycling funds for better equipment.

@@alexalbrecht5768 The CIWS of 051B is sufficient for small countries to use. The CIWS of 055 definitely exceeds all countries except for the latest version in the United States. I'm talking about second-hand warships here, how can you extend it to CIWS. Brain broken?
@@SpruceWood-NEG your usage of that term was not great but whatever. There’s a reason most navies don’t operate large surface combatants. African countries definitely can’t do it. I can think of a list of CIWS platforms that are either equivalent or superior to that of the 051B and 055. The real interesting question is how long gun based CIWS platforms remain before they are supplanted by missile based systems like SeaRAM.

The maximum elevation angle of the machine gun is 85 degrees, the maximum pitch angle is -25 degrees, the maximum horizontal speed is 70 degrees/second, the maximum pitch speed is 50 degrees/second, the effective range is 4000 meters, and the maximum range is 5000 meters. The radar system is divided into two sets. One set is its own small three sided shield phased array radar, which includes various sensors such as radar, optics, infrared, and laser, as well as target tracking systems. Another set of shipborne long-range 346B dual band large-scale radar system combined with 055. The closer defense system I mentioned, stronger than the 1130, was the laser defense system originally planned by the US military to be deployed on the Jumwalt level. Okay, now you can give an example of which close range defense system on Earth is stronger than 1130.

There was a folktale about the 167 ShenZhen and the 168 GuangZhou. In Cantonese, the 167 is kind of “big xxxx” meaning, the 168 is kind of “good luck” meaning. So the GuangZhou government took their advantage as the capital city of GuangDong province, made sure the 168 belongs to GuangZhou and 167 to the ShenZhen. That’s kind of self-proofing since as the Chinese NAVY naming conventions, GuangZheb as a higher order city, should named a ship before ShenZhen. You can ask any Cantonese speaking people about the number 167 and 168, and they should understand why one is very bad and the other is good.

This was an important ship that laid the foundation for much better following ships, and in particular, the Type 055, bring them on par with the US AGEIS destroyers. The Type 346B radar (NATO code "Dragon Eye") has an array large enough to detect the F-35 and F-22 at a range of about 200 nautical miles, perhaps farther. The Area Defense capabilities are on par with US now. This is why the Air Force needed the B21. The Dragon Eye can see the smaller planes, but it may struggle with the large B21. Of course the AGEIS might struggle with the H-20 for the same reason. The H-20 does not have to be as good as the B-21, but as the old saying goes, perfection is the enemy of good enough. I think this is the case with the O55, Type 346B, and the H-20.

@@williamblomster2387 Like when was the last time a destroyer sunk a ship with a deck gun? Ship warfare, like ariel warfare, is done by rockets and missiles. Also the Chinese ships only have to get to Taiwan. That is their future target and because they are already there, they don't have to be all that fast. Everyone here seems to want to make it appear that China is a military treat to the US and they are not and they don't want to be. Their focus is the re-unification of Taiwan and their ships are more than good enough to accomplish that. They have about 2 more years to finish building out their other weapons systems, and when they do, their slow destroyers will be fast enough to do the job.

Not a test ship. It’s a stopgap between 052 and 052B/C hull that was under development, which was running into delays. PLAN wouldn’t have anything launched for most of the entire 90’s if they didn’t build 051.

PLA ships are flimsy they bumped a Philippine coast guard ship that was smaller and the Filipino punctured the hull of the much larger Chinese Coast guard vessel.

They really believe their rusty coast guard vessel damaged the hull of China coastguard ship, despite BBC reporter sat inside PH ship yet there is no single photo of evidence but just "word of mouth".
