I'm not telling you to go do this but what I am telling you is there's other ways to disable that auto start-stop... you can research the system now I'm not going to answer a bunch of questions on this because you get a bunch of know-it-alls on the internet they want to argue with you so you'll have to do your own research
I know you said you wouldn't answer a bunch of questions but I have a serious one. I was told if you don't reset the battery life in the computer when you install the new battery the alternator will overcharge it and it could ruin the battery and the alternator. I have yet to see that happen, didn't know if you ever did.
@@mikewazowski7448 I've never seen that happen, I have seen the battery light pop on and need to be reset because it detects the health change without a reset
@@mikewazowski7448 I didn't mean that in a negative way people just like to argue with me because they like their only way to be the only way And technically I shouldn't be telling people this so it's a safety reason as well
Auto Start/Stop is just one more way for the automaker to meet fuel efficiency/emission standards. Allowing customers to easily disable it gets in the way of that.
My wife's 2020 has a setting via the steering wheel buttons that disables auto start/stop along with a button over the radio that temporarily disables it.
I understand sometimes you won't want it, but it really does save a ton of fuel. Engineering Explained did a really good video on it. Its like everyone forgot about $4 to $5 gallon fuel in 2012. More power to ya I guess, I'm not paying for it.
@@TraceyAllen What you seem to not understand is that people want the option to turn some of this stuff off regardless of what others think of their decision to do so. Not everyone wants their engine cutting out at every stop light. This "feature" should be optional, then it would be up to each and every person who has it on their vehicle if they want to use it or not, not forced upon them by the nanny-state via the automakers as a proxy. Having it easily enabled / disabled without an auto-re-enable every time you key the vehicle off\on would go a long way to at the very least removing a lot of the bad-will auto-star\stop has caused. Same goes for other intrusive tech like cylinder deactivation \ AFM; you shouldn't be forced to use it if you don't want to.
I used to write software and design electronic engine controls for Ford a long long time ago. We toyed around with the idea of doing this auto-start stop stuff long ago - maybe 15 years ago, and we all said it was a BAD idea. And at the very least it should be controlable by the driver/owner. But no - I guess some engineers came along later and went ahead with this horrible idea. I'm personally glad you make these videos on how people can get more out of their own property/vehicles.
Rich, this is one of the things I love about your channel, bud. You let people know things about their vehicles that is important and can save them money and time.
Most people, including myself, use forscan for more than just the start/stop system. There's a lot that program can do that aren't in the vehicle settings. That being said, I would not recommend that program to people who don't know what they're doing with it. You overwrite the wrong value or screw with something you shouldn't, things may not end well. Some of the modifications I've found useful for my particular needs, other things I absolutely won't touch. As far as the start/stop system in general, I actually gave it an honest try when I purchased my F150. Left it on constantly for a month or two. It's just not for me. Yes, there's a button to disable it on each start up, but it's a system that I honestly have no need or want for, so the system, the button, and the indicator on the dash are all currently disabled. Much of this will come down to personal preferences, but if you're someone who really doesn't understand motor vehicles, particularly their electronics, it's best you not try to reprogram or leave connections undone in the interest of modifying. That "maybe I shouldn't have done that" moment may cost you a lot more $$$ than you think.
THANK YOU FOR THAT TIP! I hate the auto start-stop. It saves a negligible amount of fuel, it's hard on the starter and engine (probably), and whenever I'm sitting at a light and my truck dies I get PTSD flashbacks to when I was a teenager and used to run out of gas because I only ever put in a few bucks at a time.
It actually saves a TON of gas and reduces engine wear(not running). Battery and starter are stronger for this purpose. Customers of mine with Silverado’s are getting 21 mpg in town, where their old trucks without start/stop got 15. Hope this helps, PTSD I can do nothing for, haha.
@@JimmyMakingitwork with all the problems that the Fords are having with phasers I don't think it's such a good idea to be auto start stopping a vehicle losing oil pressure and then building it back up the " shock load " that you're putting on the units over and over can't be good...if I were people I'd turn it off every time I got in Sure it may save some fuel but do I think it's necessary with all the timing issues that Ford has been having... absolutely not
@@JimmyMakingitwork There's a video on RUclips somewhere that compared identical vehicles driving in identical conditions (following one another in traffic). One had the auto start-stop active, the other one was off. The car with auto start-stop got 4%-8% better fuel economy in city driving. Which isn't nothing, but to put it into perspective my 2018 F150 5.0L gets about 12 mpg in town, which could be 13. BFD.
Long long time ago. Clutch linkage broke. Had to turn engine off anytime I stopped. Put it in gear, hit the starter, vroom, vroom, away I go and finesse shift up and down as required. Need to stop, put it in neutral, go to take off, put it in gear and vroom vroom, away I go again. Fun times. Btw '71 Pinto(learned so much, did so much with that car)
Paying less then $100 bucks for a easy to install plug and play module sounds safer and easier then screwing around with your charging system and if need be it can be uninstalled just as easily without resetting anything especially with an expensive dealer/auto shop scan tool. So if you're hard up for money and want to risk it your other option is to do what this guy is talkng about. I'd just spend the $80 and be done without any issues or doing nonsense procedures ✌🏽♥️
Why is Ford so ridiculous? Why don’t they just start producing these vehicles to where the owner/driver can turn on the auto start stop if they choose to and just leave it off all the time. If I want it on I will turn it on. This literally enrages me.
@@newfie-dean5803 Put that in reverse. When I start the vehicle, it’s automatically off which 99% of drivers prefer. if I want it on, then I’ll turn the button on which would be never. Again which 99% of drivers prefer.
@@Maynardd blame the government for that. They’d prefer if your vehicle was always off to “save” the environment. The government is the reason it defaults to being on. Once you turn it off a few times it becomes instinctive to do that just as you would put on your seatbelt before driving away.
@@Maynardd I’m pretty sure you can even go into your menu settings and turn it off completely there. That way it’s always off with no need to push buttons.
I'm kind of glad that someone is addressing this issue of the auto start stop function of modern day vehicles.... And again THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION. Is the Auto industry creating another avenue of revenue in maintenance and repair by having the starter system (battery, starter, starter solenoid, etc.) Cycle thousands of times more then a non-equipped start stop vehicle?
Indeed.. I'm sure the new cars with auto start/stop have some sort of modern starter that wears slower.. but we shall see in few years won't we!! I don't want a new car with that in it.
Auto S/S has come up due to ever tightening fuel economy standards from regulatory agencies and diminishing returns on making internal combustion engines more efficient. It does have a side benefit of putting additional wear and tear on the starting and electrical system.
This is probably why my auto s/s quit working around 18 months ago. Still on the OEM battery for my '15 F150 with 2.7. I removed the battery and had it load tested at an auto parts store. It was low, but still had plenty of life, so it wasn't replaced. Personally, I didn't mind auto s/s in the winter time here in Southeast Texas. But in the summer, I just reached over and pushed the button to disable it. Not a big deal in my opinion. The 2.7 was built with this feature in mind so having it doesn't bother me or cause me to worry about failed starters, etc. Oh, 75,xxx trouble free miles on my 2.7.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but with turbos isn't it better to keep it running rather than stopping the engine and letting that oil cook on those hot turbo bearings
Depends. Its really not as big of a deal with a water cooled turbo. It's also not really a big deal if you are just putting around town. If you are drag racing and immediately shut the car off then you might have a problem.
I just hit the button on dash. Sometimes I forget and the truck shuts down at a stop light, I cuss and then reach up and hit the button again. Its an annoying feature, but Ford did provide a way to disable it.
My 2.7 2015 XLT battery began to get a little weak. Radio on engine off and soon it auto shut off all the el systems. Not like that new. Auto stop was getting old and money light was coming on. DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. Got under steering wheel and separated the white connector. Now runs normal no dash lights and same 6 yr old battery. To me perfect solution. NO COMPLICATIONS. Maybe last year for the factory battery. The motor is great. Trans clunks a little with light throttle going up to 3rd gear. Get on it and it's perfect!
Or instead of letting the battery get low you can just edit 2 lines in forscan and never worry about it again. The most common method makes the pscm think the wheel is always being turned. Of course I'd already spent the money on the adapter because I added the cruise control switches to my '21 XL. The adapter is only what like $50? Forscan is free, and it gives you a LOT of utility
Seems to me you need to watch more of my videos because you're talking out of place I have video showing how to do that and it's more than just two lines
@@FordBossMe I didn't really think my comment was being rude or anything, maybe a little too snarky. but I went back and checked and the way I did it from someone called Livinitup's spreadsheet on the f150/forscan forums requires only one thing to be changed on the PSCM and an optional one in the HVAC module that makes the light not illuminate
I bought a AutoStop Eliminator for my 2019 Edge ST with the 2.7. The device allows you to let the Auto Start/Stop work normally, or disables it. The switch still functions. I just leave it off 99% of the time.
I think who ever thought of this owns a starter company!! so you get all the fluids flowing pressure built up in transmission and the darn thing shuts off at the stop light hmmmm.... they had commercials saying for 20 years worst thing you can do is start the car for wear and tear.
@@stevenpowers9761 Auto stop/start helps manufactures get past a very specific set of EPA drive cycle fuel mileage tests. That is the only reason it exists. It does nothing for you.
Man, you are a genius! Got a few battery issues on my 2020 Lincoln Corsair and the start/ stop system won’t work any more. Sometimes it tells me stuff like “engine on due to steep grade “when am on a very leveled road. Did the battery reset with the scan tool and it’s working fine now. Thanks for sharing!
I understood that when the battery state of charge (SOC) falls below a certain percentage, it'll disable the auto start/stop function. I also understand that if the PCM thinks the battery SOC is below lets say 80%, when you replace that battery with a brand new one and refuse to reset the battery monitoring system, the alternator will continue to only charge the battery to 80%. Thus, your new battery will fail relatively quickly since it'll never get fully charged. Using forscan to update your new battery info, reset your BMS, and disable the auto start/stop function is likely the best option imo
No the system will actually reset because it will do a self-check and once the vehicle sits for 8 hours without the battery reset done and will reset itself when the new battery is installed
No wonder.. my auto start/stop had stopped working (battery was going bad). I installed a new battery myself, and it unfortunately is working again. I didn’t have anyone program it. I’m guessing the ecu picks up the battery voltage on its own? Don’t want to go through the hassle of locating a bad battery, and it be a short term fix. Maybe I’ll just “jump” the switch to always be off. Can I have your input if this is bad for any of the electronics?
put a volt meter on the battery, let the radio play until the battery reaches the low battery point, then start. do it the 3 or 4 times required. have some snacks and drinks, make an evening out of it.
When you explained it, I actually now think you are a genius, my F150 gets annoying when we have to push the button every time we start it. Thanks for the video.
I already have Forscan for my 2012 Truck and I can use it to disable the auto start/stop with it it pretty easy on out 2018 without messing anything up. I used it on my 2012 to enable the remote start and disable hyperflash so I can run LEDs without resistors. I also enabled the turn signal daytime running lights and Bambi mode(it lets you have your fog lights on with the high beams) . On the 2018 truck I enabled the mirrors folding when you lock the truck and a couple of other things. Forscan is free you just have to get a new license every couple months and all you need is a laptop and a obd2 cable
I just bought the auto stop eliminator when I bought my truck 2 years ago. Cost less than a tank of gas and then the feature works like it should. Push the button to turn it off, and it stays off. Even after you restart the truck. If you ever want it on, just hit the button and turn it back on. I haven't thought about it again since.
Well forscan usually does exactly that it tricks the computer on thinking that it has a bad battery and disables the auto stop/start, Forscan is really delicate but useful on enabling other experimental features aside from disabling auto start/stop it also works as a diagnostic tool and reads any trouble codes for you and can also clear them or save them. But thats if its in your budget and its not that expensive. I was able to disable the annoying honk sound on my f150 after leaving with my key fob and enable perpindicular park assist and even enable my mirrors to auto fold after shutting off, its super useful but only if you know what your doing because if you code the wrong thing on the spreadsheet you could cause something to deactivate or fail the good thing is that their are allot of youtube videos that show you step by step on how to code a feature on the spread sheet for forscan. Its pretty cool on how you can modify features on these f150s and tbh because of forscan Im kinda of a die hard ford fan now.
Thusfar I've only used FORSCAN to enable the fog lights to stay on with the brights. I keep it handy for anything else that I might need it for in the future. I just use the button on the dash to disable the auto start/stop.

So you miss my point entirely here and I don't want to have to keep having a discussion about it you have to purchase forscan you don't have to purchase what I'm saying
Hey man I don't usually find many interesting technicians or ones that actually show the process like you do or how you explain things, I'd say you're up their with Scotty Kilmer for being so informative and entertaining.
Nice tip. I wouldn't be surprised if this feature is in other BMS for other brands. A low battery state would not be good for start/stop operation. It's safer to keep a car running. The only problem is some non-ford systems may use logic to determine the state no longer exists once the battery is changed (good voltage) and a certain number of key cycles occur. I know VW and Audi cars clear certain faults if the condition goes away after a certain number of on/off cycles.
I had a great dealership to do business with... I bought my 15' new & the dealer provided a dummy trailer plug to disable it if I wanted, they told the bulk purchased accessories & added things like that & locking lugs.
its amazing these manufacturers are telling customers what they are going to buy, not what the customer wants to buy. and the costs keep going up and up.
I had a ‘19 F150 Lariat for a work truck. I made a short jumper wire that connected both wires on the start/stop switch. When I would start the truck, it would default to off. Took about 10 minutes and $2 worth of materials
@@LackToesInTallOrRent I just took a piece of wire and put a thin blade connector on each end. Stick it into the end of of the switch where the wires go. The completed circuit will tell the computer you pushed the switch, kicking off the auto start/stop.
Just unplugged the battery monitor on the negative cable, gives a battery warning every time I start but no more start/stop , and on the 2021s with the MDS it will disable that as well.
I don't have that crud on mine. 2015. I got the new body and not the start-stop. Friend has a 2016. New body and he hates the SS. I have read info on mine (live data) while troubleshooting the transmission communication issue and I did notice FORScan (I am not a Ford tech and cannot afford IDS) had options to change all kinds of mess. I changed nothing, but was told that changing the battery type in BMS will disable SS also. I have not tried this as I do not have SS. I just wish the transmission would work!
I hate auto start/stop with a passion. I bought a Bluetooth adapter to use with Forscan. Turn that off was the first thing I did. I like to tinker with forscan and all the settings, so that is why I bought the OBDII adapter. In my 2017 3.5EB and 2wd, I added downhill decent control without buying 4wd and FX4 package. Bought the $14 button and Forscan to change the values. It works great as I tried it in my driveway. More than likely to never use it again lol.
If you look in your owners manuel...yea imagine that cars still come with one...anyway there are button sequences you can press to disable or enable things like seat belt chimes and such...there should be a section about the start stop and how to disable it as well.
What about a cheap night light? I installed the stop start eliminator within hours of getting my truck and works great. I then heard that a cheap night light plugged into the 110 outlet in the back of the center console would disable the stop start. I wished that I knew about this hack beforehand.
Was just about ready to do the unplug under the dash thing until I found this. You saved me a bunch of trouble again. Just need to get my hands on a bad battery.
Ah yes the auto stall feature. I had that on a 1978 F150 that I owned and a 1986 Econoline, and a 1984 F150. I had a self driving 1991 Explorer also. Whenever it snowed the car would change direction on its own. I mean 180s on the highway. I also recall my mothers 1981 Mercury Lynx would do the same thing. Fraud was way ahead of the times

Little plug under dash drivers side and only thing doesn’t work on my king ranch is the trailer lights but just plug it back in takes (literally a second ) when you are pulling a trailer … haven’t had no issues with this method last couple years
I used forscan to do mine that was before seeing this. But I did also disable with forscan the stupid double honk when getting out of the ranger with the engine running. Also turned off some of the other annoying chime because I’m I and out vehicle dozens of times a day for work.
You can just unhook the BMS sensor on the positive terminal. No check engine light. No auto start/stop. No problem. I would recommend you tape the connector ends and use di-electric grease to prevent corrosion if you take this route.
@@Discretesignals I mean, unhooking manufacture features that are required to meet emissions is never a good idea, but I can assure you, it has no noticeable negative affects. It has been done many times and is more easily reversible than using forscan or even than buying the aftermarket on/off switch that defaults to off instead off on. If you are going to do it yourself, or as a dealership, this is by far the safest method that you cannot screw up with. Zero chance of anything breaking or bricking your PCM
And if the battery is low on charge from setting--the ASS will also be disabled.Until the battery gains a full charge. With a full charge--the ASS will start working again.I can judge the state of charge of my 5 year old battery by if the Auto Start Stop is working or not. Could you make a video of Ford's Regenerative Charging System? As on the 2.0 EcoBoost? It blew my mind when trouble shooting with a volt meter.
All I have to do is press a button on the centre console of my Puma to disable auto stop/start. Either that or change the driving mode. Never realized it was an issue for some Ford owners.
Where everybody is worried about the starter and oil pressure with the start stop function... I'm concerned with what is the long term effects of the transmission and torque converter when you sitting at a red light and the truck is off and you realize the light turned green and you put the pedal down and it starts in immediately takes off
I can tell you needed to get that off your chest and I’m glad you did . We’ve all been treated unjustly(unkindly) at some point in our lives, but remember, if you are a “country boy” at heart regardless of where you live…… well then you will always survive !
I rented a Jeep recently for a trip. Driving in KC during wet rainy weather. Windshield fogged up at stop lights because the engine was always stopping therefore no AC to keep the air dry. Found out when I returned the vehicle that there is a button on the console to turn that feature off. The ECM knows when AC is running, and maybe when defrost is selected, it should be programmed to disable the auto start/stop in defrost mode, as a safety feature
You can reset the BMS by turning key in on position, flick highbeams 5 times, then pump brake pedal 3 times, cycle key off then back on. BMS reset.... dont let the dealships maks you think you need a $10k scan tool to do it.
DUDE I am literally the og for putting this info out - I am the first tech online to release that information and bring it to the public lol You are preaching to the choir, I leaked that information 6yrs ago and made a video on it a few years ago Anything else you'd like to tell me I released to the public?
So there’s a button you can press after each engine start to diss able the auto stop start. If you had a robot that could press the button for you every time you start the engine- that would solve the problem. But if that works , what if the robot never let go of the button? So I jammed a toothpick between the pressed button and it’s bezel so the button is always stuck pressed down. I did that 4 years ago in my Kia soul and the problem is solved with no discernible damage. Try it
i got this really cool start button that lets me start my truck without a battery. its called a clutch. bet half the people in the comments will ask what a clutch is.
Yeah it works great, as long as the truck is Rolling already.... Never works when you are stopped, stuck, on the train tracks, and a train is coming...
Our 2017 Escape SE lost it’s auto start-stop. First sign the battery is going bad. Put a new one in. Did NOT do a reset but start-stop started working again all on its own. So the trick in the video doesn’t always work. Our BMW lets you turn the feature off and it stays off until the day you turn it back on. Ford needs to do the same.
so if loose battery connections could easily do this: dash lights up, car refuses to start, looks like a dead battery. Then all you need is loosen the earth connection on the battery, try to start it a few times, then tighten it back?
I don’t understand why people hate it so much. I absolutely enjoy it. I don’t like the way Chevy implemented theirs because I don’t think it shuts off enough.
@Marty's 4x4 lol what are you smoking? They all start under a second and not changing your oil on time causes more wear. The starters are higher quality and actually last longer. If you can’t manage the 0.5 second delay I’m scared that you even have a drivers license.
I just bought the $80 thing that plugs into the back of the button. Easy to install and never have to worry about it getting reset or changing batteries.
you're right but again we go back to spending money on something that you don't need to spend money on and most people don't want to buy a $40 data link connector and then download the app to a computer and then go into the computer and figure out how everything works
@@aq4316 you could have looked up a wiring schematic and instead of unplugging the whole connector at the trailer brake module disabled to one single wire going to the trailer brake module that has an input for the auto start-stop
Maybe I am old school. I think that once or of gas brunt at a stop. Is well worth keeping the oil pressure up and oil pump going. The old school wisdom says startup is hard on engines.
I just rolled over 205k on my 2013 Explorer. No water pump issues 🤞. I changed to Ford's new coolant, the 'yellow'. And change oil religiously. I heard the job on the pump is around $1,400..?
@@lm-usmc lol He might be. I had a failure of my auxiliary trans pump. I wound up just pulling the plug off the battery current sensor. Holds the battery in a higher state of charge, disables the A.S.Start, and no warning lights. It's been working like this for 6 months.
Thanks bud wish I seen this before I did what the video below yours suggested. An that was to put temporary supply power to the ground pin and basically fry the box. Now nothing works in my car but hey it does run all the time
This gave me a chuckle. If you want to fix a Ford feature you have to use a defective part to trick the Ford to think it's defective to work properly. You'd think Ford would have a way of using a scan tool to disable it besides going out and buying a cheap Walmart battery. I'm just joking but keep making your videos. I do find them educational.
Its almost like the manufacturer saying "We HAVE to do this to make the government happy....BUT, there is a way around it permanently if you know the secret 😜
Hey great tip. I knew that the ASS system monitors battery SOC to ensure that the ASS won't further discharge a weak battery but I did not know that it would "go into code" permanently. Is this typical for all makes and models or just Ford?
at my dealership there is a on and off button for this . it only works for a shot time befor it goes back to default again but then you just push it again. I do this all day when I am test driving a car or suv
I just made it a habit to push the "auto stall" disable switch whenever I get in the truck. Do it every time and after a bit it's so automatic you don't even realize you are doing it.
When you consider the fact that the vehicle is worth ZERO, with the stop / start technology in place, you can understand why people explore various methods of eliminating it. You can have the evil stop start technology permanently disabled. But you MUST do it as a condition of sale at the time you buy. The dealer can easily program this feature off. They do this for most government vehicles and police departments. If your dealer won't do it, go to another dealer. Engine Stop Start technology was developed for the SOLE purpose of improving the EPA, MPG number during their NON-REALISTIC test. In the real world it does virtually nothing to save fuel, but it DOES wear out your engine faster. Nothing is harder on a car engine than when you start it. There are several aftermarket kits that can defeat Engine Stop Start technology. Forced Lighting (Daytime Running Lights that cannot be controlled by the driver) is another common thing that people get rid of. Unless, you have a Toyota, which has "DRL off" right on the light switch.
Will that work for a 2021 Honda Pilot? The auto-collision detection is driving the wife and I nuts also. If there is a slight curve in the road even with an empty turning lane in between, the dash is flashing BRAKE and the steering wheel is shaking. The Honda dealer said there is nothing wrong, it's operating as intended.☹
Yes...all the infinite wisdom of those on the internet is frustrating for sure. Having said that, some postings suggest that when a new battery is installed that the battery management system should be reset so that it will charge the new battery properly. Could you please comment on that...thanks.
Auto stop is a nice thing when you have a properly designed electrical system but on a legacy system with antiquated lead acids and high load demands is asking for trouble.
Thank you, thank you. I HATE that 'feature'. I'm about ready to trade the Escape in for something without stop-start, and Ive only had it for 5 months. Now I need to be able to leave the transmission in sport mode all the time so it doesn't lug and vibrate between 40 and 50 MPH. Those 2 items make an otherwise nice vehicle into a pain in the ass. Thanks for the tip.
The BMS (battery management system) monitors the battery to effectively charge (without over/under charging), shuts off systems to keep battery from dying, and ensues correct DC-DC converter and DC-AC inverter. "Tricking" the BMS is NOT a good idea. Auto start/stop is off in sport mode, tow haul, when defrost is on, and during warmup.
Just found this from your comment in the other video, not as easy as just unpluging a connector but seems like it's the better way to go about it. So I just need to find a battery that's almost dead, connect it and start the vehicle several times with it and then I should be good indefinitely do not have to deal with that feature anymore?
Interesting, forscan isn’t that expensive though. Prolly a lot more potential to wreck something though if you didn’t ace the as built file. Would the workshop manual tell you this info about the battery monitoring system and disabling stop start? Another reason to get one
2018 Ford Escape Titanium. Can you tell me what the red flashing "I" means? It is in center of IP between the two pods. When I open the door to get in, and just before I start the car it goes out.
I don’t get all the hate for the start/stop? If I’m driving and I don’t want it on, I hit the button on the dash. Are people really that lazy? And why are we complaining about something that keeps us from sitting at a stop light burning 4 dollar a gallon gas? Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t get.
Could be because of a sunroof drain it could be because of a sliding back glass window leaking most of the time it's the back glass leaking or the vents on the back wall between the cab and the bed are not fastened into the body correctly
I didn't like the forscan method because it shows a warning about auto start stop all the time. I have a feeling this method will do the same thing, to alert you the ASS is disabled

The problem with the 2017 to 2020 F-150 was the cam phaser issue and the Turbo oil and coolant line leaks now you said something about a 3.7 EcoBoost I don't know if that was a error on your part they don't make a 3.7 L EcoBoost in your truck only a 3.5 L EcoBoost and a 2.7 L EcoBoost and no the 2.7 L will not work different computer system and a harness so essentially you need to put a 3.5 L EcoBoost in it if you're going to change the engine and make sure you're updated to the third generation cam phasers which is the newest ones that are available through Ford

Wish manufacturer's would just give owners a selectable option so people don't have to try and circumvent the engineers wet dream.
Idk but my wife's 19 Escaoe you could disable on the dash menu no problem. She just got a new Edge ST, same deal with the menu option to disable it.
Thank You
Jam the button down with a toothpick. Keeps the button pressed 100% of the time and voila- no damned auto stop start

@@JimmyMakingitwork with all the problems that the Fords are having with phasers I don't think it's such a good idea to be auto start stopping a vehicle losing oil pressure and then building it back up the " shock load " that you're putting on the units over and over can't be good...if I were people I'd turn it off every time I got in

Paying less then $100 bucks for a easy to install plug and play module sounds safer and easier then screwing around with your charging system and if need be it can be uninstalled just as easily without resetting anything especially with an expensive dealer/auto shop scan tool. Why is Ford so ridiculous? Why don’t they just start producing these vehicles to where the owner/driver can turn on the auto start stop if they choose to and just leave it off all the time. If I want it on I will turn it on. This literally enrages me.
Ford is dumb- just no getting around that
There is a button to turn it off so I don’t know what the big deal is. Just turn it off when you start it.
@@newfie-dean5803 Put that in reverse. When I start the vehicle, it’s automatically off which 99% of drivers prefer. if I want it on, then I’ll turn the button on which would be never. Again which 99% of drivers prefer.

Great Great engine. Built form the ground up to be boosted etc. iron block
in the UK most cars with auto stop start have a button to disable this Function though you have to press it every time you start a new journey
That is badass! This wouldn’t have even been an issue if they just allowed you to disable it in the menu.

Rich just brings facts and money saving advice to the Ford driving public. Excellent advice that will possibly work with other brands.
Wow - you get "annoyed" because you have to push the button on the console to defeat Auto/Start/Stop???

Hey great tip. I knew that the ASS system monitors battery SOC to ensure that the ASS won't further discharge a weak battery but I did not know that it would "go into code" permanently. Is this typical for all makes and models or just Ford?
I'm not sure honestly
at my dealership there is a on and off button for this . it only works for a shot time befor it goes back to default again but then you just push it again. I do this all day when I am test driving a car or suv
I just made it a habit to push the "auto stall" disable switch whenever I get in the truck. Do it every time and after a bit it's so automatic you don't even realize you are doing it.
People are too damn lazy to do that they don't they feel like they should have the power to just turn it completely off
When you consider the fact that the vehicle is worth ZERO, with the stop / start technology in place, you can understand why people explore various methods of eliminating it.
I don't know about Honda Pilots
Yes...all the infinite wisdom of those on the internet is frustrating for sure. Having said that, some postings suggest that when a new battery is installed that the battery management system should be reset so that it will charge the new battery properly. Could you please comment on that...thanks.
Auto stop is a nice thing when you have a properly designed electrical system but on a legacy system with antiquated lead acids and high load demands is asking for trouble.
Thank you, thank you. I HATE that 'feature'. I'm about ready to trade the Escape in for something without stop-start, and Ive only
had it for 5 months. Now I need to be able to
leave the transmission in sport mode all the time so it doesn't lug and vibrate between 40 and 50 MPH.
Is there a way to disable the beyond annoying autolock feature on the doors and tailgate? 2020 F150 XLT
Keep your directive. Your definitely good. I mean that.
Just found this from your comment in the other video, not as easy as just unpluging a connector but seems like it's the better way to go about it. So I just need to find a battery that's almost dead, connect it and start the vehicle several times with it and then I should be good indefinitely do not have to deal with that feature anymore?
I also show how to program it out using a program called Forscan
It's also in the library
Well I better look into that Forscan option because I'd much rather do it like that.
Interesting, forscan isn’t that expensive though. Prolly a lot more potential to wreck something though if you didn’t ace the as built file. Would the workshop manual tell you this info about the battery monitoring system and disabling stop start? Another reason to get one
Probably...
@@ronsrailroad7176 ? I’ve had my 2019 F150 since December of that same year. It has over 82000 miles on it and it’s fine, soooo…..
Ok this is golden! How about answer this, why do I have a small pond in my driver’s side floor board after a long rain…😂🤦♂️
Could be because of a sunroof drain it could be because of a sliding back glass window leaking most of the time it's the back glass leaking or the vents on the back wall between the cab and the bed are not fastened into the body correctly
One if my friends bought a new F150 Lariat edition . He said that the auto start can be disabled by the driver in the setup menue.
Have not seen it yet....2021?
@@FordBossMe 2020
i changed via obd in central configuration parameter to (no start-stop system) is it bad for my car and transmission?
Is what bad for your engine and transmission?
I didn't like the forscan method because it shows a warning about auto start stop all the time. I have a feeling this method will do the same thing, to alert you the ASS is disabled
Valuable information. Auto start sucks, not only that, thieves can detect the frequency & steal your car in seconds.
Great advice. I hate the auto start stop
A quick question if I may, I have a 2020 f-150 xlt with the 3.5 ecoboost engine and I’ve heard a lot of bad things about this engine instead of repairing it will a 3.7 ecoboost fit my truck? And when can I expect something to go wrong? Thanks
I've said it before and I'll say it again...I've said it before.
Great info! Do you think it’s the same on a Chevy? I’m in the habit of taking it off every time with the button, but this would be better!
No clue
