They can't afford many mistakes, each minute could have been a minute of finding better resources, ambushing the players, or finding vantage points and hiding spots. Sure, it was fun and games to mess with each other in the preparation time and early into the challenge, but they soon realized that this kind of stuff would get them killed for good. And a 2v3 is much easier than a 1v3. 10/10 greatest action-drama film of 2019.
