Brings back great childhood memories. These were great shows with the added bonus of a great theme score. The right music adds so much to any production.
I love this theme. It always spoke of the grandeur of nature and the superb research ability of mankind. It should have been kept and reused in all subsequent Cousteau series.
I remember this theme music well! As a kid, I used to love watching Jacques Cousteau and the Calypso. I felt a special kinship with him because my first name is James and my elementary school French teacher told me that the French equivalent of James is Jacques. 😀❤️
Immense respects and a heartfelt homage to one of the greatest explorers of the modern era - Jacques Cousteau. He may have been French but he belonged to the world, to entire mankind. This French oceanographer opened more of the Earth's oceans & seas to human endeavor than any other explorer, helping us better understand marine life and species which were unknown to us before. Jacques Cousteau, who brought the wonders of the ocean's depths to hundreds of millions of readers, filmgoers and television viewers - is sorely missed by Humanity. He was known in all parts of the globe for his talent and enthusiasm in bringing the silent depths of the sea to human eyes and for his zest for underwater exploration. Jacques Cousteau, won three Academy Awards with his underwater documentaries, and his television series, "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau," was shown in more than 100 countries.
A little-known fact is that Jacques Cousteau's first wife, Simone, would often accompany him on Calypso voyages, and she would sometimes dive as well. But she was never shown on TV.
I was lucky to grow up in a wonderful era when shows like this were on!

I'm now 60 and remember watching this glorious program with my parents.
That music always filled my heart with a sense of wonder!

Rod Serling was the narrator??!?!
Yep!
The UK version was narrated by Hugh Falkus.
@@michaellant9051 I did not know that, but I was very young when it was on UK TV. The theme music was indelible, though!
Does anyone have a clue to the status of the restoration of the the Calypso?Nothing to be found anywhere. Sad that his dream is dieing !
