Demolition Man is actually inspired by Aldous Huxley's book, Brave New World, which is often considered to be a companion to George Orwell's 1984 as a warning about society's efforts to create a utopian state ultimately leading to totalitarianism. This is also why Sandra Bullock's character is named Lenina Huxley. Huxley, of course, refers to the last name of author Aldous Huxley. "Lenina Crowne " is the name of the central female character in Brave New World, and her first name is a female variation of Vladimir Lenin's last name.
@@Cheepchipsable True. Demolition Man draws inspiration from Brave New World, but it's still structured like a cheesy, late-80s/early-90s action flick. In the hands of a better director and with a better script, it could have been much better.

There are all kinds of movies from all kinds of genres (some which can;t even be classified into a particular genre) that Jen should watch, but I have to admit that she really, REALLY loves and "gets" action movies more than the average RUclipsr.
Some are way too focused on plot holes and obvious exaggerations of the laws of physics where to truly enjoy these movies you just have to forget all that shit and just roll with it.
@@ronweber1402 I just watched someone react to Home Alone and he was complaining how the robbers keep falling for Kevin's traps. I'm like bro, this is a kids comedy, if the robbers were smart to avoid the traps, we literally won't have a movie. You have to judge genres differently especially if it's a comedy / satire.
At the time of filming (1993), Jackie Chan was not as well known internationally. People familiar with his work knew him mostly for his Hong Kong action films. His international notoriety coincidentally grew after this movie came out.
I forgot there was 2 different versions of the movie. Most people saw the original “Taco Bell” version. I never even knew a “Pizza Hut” version existed until I started watching RUclips first time watching videos. Crazy stuff.
I'm a Kentuckian by birth but a committed Canada-phile (the only thing I know about my bio dad was that he was "of French Canadian stock.") So my whole life I've worshipped Canada, especially Barbara Budd and Mary Lou FIndlay hosting "As It Happens" on Canadian short wave radio. May I therefore frickin say, this Canada Day week, Happy Canada Day, not just to Jen, but to all of us on the planet who totally benefit from sharing its surface with Canada. Love from Louisville, Kentucky, where we Stand on Guard For Thee, best neighbors a country ever had.
This one was so entertaining because it dropped so many names verbally and visually and so full of action , plus the whole story was radically wonderful . Sandra and Wesley were great too.
On the theme of historical violence, the fusion blaster thingie from the museum looks to be a mockup of a Heckler & Koch G11, an experimental gun which I recall fired a salvo of three projectiles with each cartridge and was caseless, meaning there was nothing to eject-every part of the ammo goes out the front of the gun. As such it's kind of the closest we've come to the M41a pulse rifle from Aliens. I haven't looked it up recently, but I think it didn't work out because the ammo was brittle, among other things, but that's an easy guess because that's the problem that has plagued caseless ammunition every time it's been tried.
I'm so glad you're watching this! Now you'll understand how we feel when you say "I hope they blow this" every time there's going to be an explosion in a movie. Blow it UP, Jen! UP!!
That whole Pizza Hut thing was definitely dubbed. It's actually Taco Bell. I've seen this movie dozens of times ever since 1993 and this was the first time I heard them say "Pizza Hut" instead of "Taco Bell".
Back in the Days Wesley Snipes was a serious Martial Arts Fighter. He has the 5th Dan in Shotokan Karate, does also Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxin. Its fun to watch him fight in Movies.
I love this film. Simon Phoenix maybe one of my favorite bad guys of all time. I was watching this way too much in the 90’s on VHS. So it was funny because for the marketing of the film MTV had a behind the scenes special showing the explosion of the building in the beginning. They legit brew up a building that was planned for demolition. The Pizza Hut thing was for international release of the film. I’m unsure why they don’t keep the Taco Bell as it’s the original franchise. Wesley Snipe is amazing. Some recommendations of films have to be these… Passenger 57 Money Train White Men Can’t Jump Blade Trilogy And New Jack City
you are forgetting major league, new jack, passenger 57,us marshals and to Wong foo thanks for everything Julie Newmar, murder at 1600 ,jungle fever and the finals rising sun and money train.
You're correct about the Pizza Hut dub. In the original version it was Taco Bell. Other chains like McDonald's and Burger King didn't want any ties to an R-rated film. Taco Bell didn't care and because Pizza Hut and Taco Bell was owned by the same company, they decided to use Pizza Hut in the international cut because Pizza Hut was more well known in other countries.
Interesting. Here in NZ in about 95 I taped this on my VHS off Sky which is our equivalent of cable I suppose. And it was the USA version. I just got a fright when I saw this reaction because I had no idea they changed it and it seemed wrong lol
You know, after seeing Demolition Man so many times over the years, I only just made the connection between the way Wesley Snipes dies at the end, and what he said to Stallone at the beginning when he "forgets" where he put the hostages: "I swear, I'd lose my head if it wasn't attached."
Yup, a really under-appreciated part of the presentation. If your content is good, I'll sub and tell people about it etc, you won't have to persuade me. If it's shit, begging won't help.
This movie always makes me laugh because for big parts of the movie the "future" is actually a complex in LA that used to be The Spelling Building. It was owned by TV legend Aaron Spelling. I worked there for a long time so it makes me laugh that it's The Future. It's in a bunch of movies and shows but this one really tickles me. This and when the TV version of The Hulk threw down in the lobby. LOL.
Supposedly, there are deleted scenes involving Spartan's wife and daughter... they come to see him at the cryo-prison before beginning his sentence. He later is reunited with his daughter, as she's now a member of Edgar Friendly's group. Although these scenes were cut, the actress playing his daughter is supposedly still in the movie.
Jen singing "The Love Boat" was not on my bingo card but I loved it. And we even got some very cool dance moves for the credits! :) This movie's so much fun.
I knew the name from the song by The Police and that Grace Jones did a cover of it. For this movie, that is a new version performed by Sting. Stallone and Snipes were gold in this one Humor, action and plenty of one liners. A lot of foreshadowings in this society are so well displayed (smart and scary). There was toys, video games (Genesis, SNES, PS1, 3D0), an actual tie-in with Taco Bell (collector's cups, posters) as seen in the Stateside version of the film. The international version of the movie (especially Asia) had Pizza Hut tie-ins instead. Demolition Man 2 was is in the works. But not anymore. At least, we still have just the one.
If you want to see Stallone in a decidedly non-action role, he was in a really endearing little farce called Oscar back in the early 90s. Really underrated film.
For Wesley Snipes you may like Blade (1998)(Marvel Vampires) or U.S. Marshalls (1998) (with Tommy Lee Jones playing same character from the Fugitive). For Jackie Chan almost anything but the list must include: Police Story (1985), Drunken Master II (1994), Supercop (1992), and Rumble in the Bronx (1995).
Years ago, when Gurnee Mills megamall opened near where I live, they had a Planet Hollywood... among the memorabilia on display was the mannequin of the "frozen" John Spartan seen during the opening credits.
From a scene compilation video, I got this swearing fine count by actor. Stallone 16, Snipes 10 (both 1 credit each), and Sandra Bullock once (half-credit, the film's first fine).
Great reaction Jen! Wesley Snipes is in one called New Jack City that also has Ice T in it along with a few others. Great movie to check out if you can!

Hi Jen, if you're interested in more Welsey Snipes. Try the Blade Trilogy. Snipes plays a super hero called Blade who fights evil vampires . Lots of action and fun.
@@mizrolist Few things about that... when I first heard this quite a few months back, my initial first reaction was "that's gonna be horrible, I can't see him as Blade". But then I thought about it for a few minutes and thought "he's a really really good actor, and he might be able to pull it off.. I'll give him a chance" But then not too long ago I heard the movie was cancelled because of too much shit going on in production... essentially Mahershala wanted to remain true to the character and the comics but the writers/producers had something else in mind. Last I heard they are not going forward with it... at least not with Mahershala!
Hate to tell you Jen but we already live in that reality. It's not just RUclips. Our tickets are more or less public canceling of others for virtual glory points. Can't say something or do anything without worry. This movie is ahead of it's time. If you're looking for more Wesley Snipes movies. Marvel's Blade is great. Rated R compared to the MCU.

Taco Bell is an integral part of Demolition Man's legacy in the United States, but in European markets, it was replaced by Pizza Hut. Conventional wisdom holds that Pizza Hut became the Franchise Wars winner in Europe because the company had a greater international presence there. References to Pizza Hut were added to Demolition Man in post-production, including everything from logos to dubbed-over dialogue
"All swears are muted because RUclips restricts my videos with swearing" - Jen Murry Hi Jen🙋♂️ I didn't realize your swearing was getting out of control. Maybe it's the summer heat making your Canadian blood boiling mad. Also... "Verbal morality statute...RUclips, hello." - nicely done Jen BTW. But all joking aside, I'm going to have to disagree with you on MVP. That honor definitely should've gone to Wesley Snipes. People knew what to expect from Stallone, but Wesley's villain took villainy to a new level. So much so, that NBA basketballer Dennis Rodman dyed his hair the same as Simon Phoenix. You need to see more Wesley Snipe movies, he's got some bangers. From comedy, drama, to action Wesley has a wide range. Comedy like Wildcats (1986) with Goldie Hawn, Major League (1989), U.S. Marshals (1998) w Tommy Lee Jones, Rising Sun (1993) w Sean Connery, Passenger 57 (1992)...and of course his crown jewel, Blade (1998) and it's two sequels. Thanks Jen 🙋♂️🍾🥂🍾 Sorry for the long long read.
It was fun seeing some of the Pizza Hut version (the obvious dubs reminded me of the old TV dubbed versions of films, where you could still see the swear words, even if they’d been dubbed over!)! I think they did different fast-food chains for different territories and spent quite a bit of money on VFX to change the signage in the movie, but over here in the UK they used the original Taco Bell version (at least on video, which is how I first saw it). I remember wondering what the heck Taco Bell was! As for other 90s actiony sci-fi Stallone pics, Jen, I think I’d recommend Judge Dredd (1995). Fans of the original comic understandably hated it, but I thought it was good fun and you would probably enjoy it just for what it is, without all the fandom baggage and stuff. There’s quite a lot of similarities to Demolition Man in the story, now I come to think of it… hmm…
Speaking of dubbing that was "inaccurate," I remember turning on the Tv one afternoon and seeing then end of an episode of "Battle of the Planets" (a dubbed version of the Japanese "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" series). It was obvious that a character had been fatally wounded and that the other characters were emotionally devastated by his death, but the English dubbed dialogue said something like "He's only sleeping. He'll be alright. But we'll never rest until we get the villains for hurting him!" to make it acceptable for American children's TV.
I never knew they had a version of this film where they replaced Taco Bell with Pizza Hut. This is trippy. The three sea shells was a joke, but the guy who came up with it; actually made up how to use them. You take two and stick them together between your palm and fingers to use as tweezers to remove any large bits, then you dump them in the toilet. You then use the third shell to scrape anything left behind, throw it in the loo and flush...
From the internet: The fictional future of Demolition Man is one where the Oldies radio station plays jingles from 20th-century commercials and where all the restaurants are Taco Bell, which apparently won the "franchise wars." (It was changed to Pizza Hut in the film's European release because Taco Bell was less well-known overseas).
I guess in Canada it's Pizza Hut. I've always heard they changed it from Taco Bell for outside the US, but I've never seen it. Even Cinebinge's reaction was Taco Bell.
It depends what streaming service it was on, Amazon version has Pizza Hut, but when it was on Netflix it was the Taco Bell version. When it was originally released in theaters Canadians got the Taco Bell version.
Yes more Wesley Snipes movies please!! For more action flicks I recommend "Passenger 57" & of course the "Blade" trilogy, If you want to see him as a villain again "New Jack City", If you want fun comedy "White Men Can't Jump", "Money Train"
So good! First feature by Italian superstar commercial director (based back then in Toronto btw) Marco Brambilla who has gone on to be recognized in the art world (we met once or twice… nice guy!) Sandra Bullock was totally unknown when the film came out and that alone makes it a milestone. Her persona is already fully formed… it blew our minds! Thank a million for another brilliant reaction. You’re always always always spot on!!!
If you're going to watch Stallone, you *have* to watch the Rocky franchise. Not "cheesy action" like this one, but so worth it. The first one won three Oscars, including Best Picture & Best Director.
Loved the introduction to Sandra Bullock. Yessssssssssssss all the Rambos for sure. If Taco Bell survived the fast food wars then that would be alright with me lol. The guy that Simon had shoot Dr. Cocteau was Jesse Ventura, Ventura was a former WWE wrestler and Governor of Minnesota. He also appeared in Predator and The Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Spectacular job as always Jen, Mello Greetings : )
Happy to see you enjoy it Jen. As a teenager of the 80s, I love me some cheese. If you want some action adventure sci-fi (ish) cheese, try The Running Man, with Arnold Schwarzenegger. The cheese is thick in that one. So much fun, and a Stephen King to boot.
If you didn't know, Stallone and Schwarzenneger had a movie "tough guy" rivalry back in the day, so you will get a lot of quips about Schwarzenneger in some Stallone movies, and Stallone quips in Schwarzenneger movies.
Not only a fun action movie, but the dialogue is incredibly well written. It deserves a rewatch to catch all the hints about whats really going on. One example, she noted when snipes said "I took care of spartan before" but that was a reference to the frame-job we learn about later.
Great reaction Jen 👍. Another Wesley Snipes movie that you would love is US Marshalls with Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Downey Jr. If you watched The Fugitive Tommy Lee Jones plays the same US Marshall this time hunting Wesley Snipes.
Some action/comedy: Dolph Lundgren, Tia Carrea, Showdown in Little Tokyo, Arnie: Commando, Last Action Hero, Eraser, Raw Deal, Running Man Stallone: Tango and Cash Whoopi Goldberg: Burglar, Jumping Jack Flash, Fatal Beauty (back when she was cool) Bruce Willis: Last Boy Scout Eddie Murphy: 48 hrs, Another 48 hrs Gary Daniels: (from Expendables) 1993 Firepower (so-bad-its-good B-movie) Brandon Lee: (son of Bruce Lee) Rapid Fire Charlie Sheen: Hot Shots 1 and 2, the Rookie, Money Talks Antonio Banderas: Desperado
You *always* deliver, dear lady :) I am sure that most of us here are united in reckoning that it'd be great to crack a case or a bottle and have a movie night with Jen, who actually gets how action movies work and isn't always asking "Why did he do that?" , "Who is that?", "Violence never solved anything" etc etc etc :D

There are all kinds of movies from all kinds of genres (some which can;t even be classified into a particular genre) that Jen should watch, but I have to admit that she really, REALLY loves and "gets" action movies more than the average RUclipsr.
And that's why we love her🤘
Some are way too focused on plot holes and obvious exaggerations of the laws of physics where to truly enjoy these movies you just have to forget all that shit and just roll with it.
Also Van Damme and Seagal
Last Action Hero is the ultimate action satire movie!!!!
I forgot there was 2 different versions of the movie. Most people saw the original “Taco Bell” version. I never even knew a “Pizza Hut” version existed until I started watching RUclips first time watching videos. Crazy stuff.
Really glad Wesley reconsidered playing Simon Phoenix after initially turning it down. He owned that role.
Love from Louisville, Kentucky, where we Stand on Guard For Thee, best neighbors a country ever had.
tango & cash is a must see
A Stallone movie hardly anyone has seen is “Oscar”. It’s a comedy where he plays a gangster trying to become a banker. Amazing cast.
I love that movie. It feels like it was written for the stage, also reminds me of Clue.
This one was so entertaining because it dropped so many names verbally and visually and so full of action , plus the whole story was radically wonderful . Sandra and Wesley were great too.
I love how casual that quip was 'civilization as we know it will come to an end!' 'That's a good thing!'
that's a *whoooole* mood there :P
"Heh, he doesn't know about the sea shells."
Also, I'm sure RUclips loves the idea of the "verbal morality police".
Best Wesley Snipes movie is Major League. I HIGHLY recommend it. It's 5/5 stars. And runner-up goes to Blade. You would very much like both of those.
I'm so glad you're watching this! Now you'll understand how we feel when you say "I hope they blow this" every time there's going to be an explosion in a movie.
Blow it UP, Jen! UP!!
The Fifth Element is also very fun to watch
Fifth Element is on my channel 👍
That whole Pizza Hut thing was definitely dubbed. It's actually Taco Bell. I've seen this movie dozens of times ever since 1993 and this was the first time I heard them say "Pizza Hut" instead of "Taco Bell".
@Tessmage_Tessera I wasn't aware of that. Now, it makes more sense to me. Thank you for that info.
Some recommendations of films have to be these…
Passenger 57
Money Train
White Men Can’t Jump
Blade Trilogy
And New Jack City
Wesley Snipes flicks to watch: White Men Can't Jump, Blade (trilogy), Drop Zone. He's been in ton of stuff, most of it good.
you are forgetting major league, new jack, passenger 57,us marshals and to Wong foo thanks for everything Julie Newmar, murder at 1600 ,jungle fever and the finals rising sun and money train.
@@mrgonzale0978 I just listed the ones of my favorite. White Men Can't Jump being my all time favorite.
Snipes: Passenger 57. First movie I ever saw him in and it was great.
Such a fun movie! Easy recommendations are Tango & Cash and Passenger 57 for Stallone and Snipes, and Last Action Hero for satire!
You have the most mischievous laugh ever lol lol it's great
You're correct about the Pizza Hut dub.
One of the many things I like about this reaction channel: 7 secs in and we're into the movie. No intro, no asking for thumbs up and subs, no bs. :)
😎👍
Yup, a really under-appreciated part of the presentation. If your content is good, I'll sub and tell people about it etc, you won't have to persuade me. If it's shit, begging won't help.
@@jenmurrayxo yes they say Taco Bell where did you find the version you are watching never seen that pizza hut dub
Along a somewhat similar vein, I also like that Jen doesn't engage in a bunch of "You're all so special to me" fake congeniality to suck up to fans.
@@smdownh9 Taco Bell doesn't exist outside of the US (practically), so nobody knows what it is. Pizza Hut is much more recognizable.
I love the computer going off in the background any time John Spartan says a swear word. Been cracking me up for 30 years. 🤣
8:30 Yes! Blade, for example. Also, if you like this, you probably like Judge Dredd (the one from the 90s)
eeewwwwww The Stallone Dredd is an abomination
Jen you have the best one liner reactions. “Gross and awesome!” Is the top!
They made several props of Stallone in the ice cube. They were hung from the ceiling of Planet Hollywood restaurants, all over the country.
Jen singing "The Love Boat" was not on my bingo card but I loved it. And we even got some very cool dance moves for the credits! :) This movie's so much fun.
😂😂🤘
We're 23 years ahead of schedule
I knew the name from the song by The Police and that Grace Jones did a cover of it.
For this movie, that is a new version performed by Sting.
Stallone and Snipes were gold in this one
Humor, action and plenty of one liners.
A lot of foreshadowings in this society are so well displayed (smart and scary).
There was toys, video games (Genesis, SNES, PS1, 3D0), an actual tie-in
with Taco Bell (collector's cups, posters) as seen in the Stateside version of the film.
The international version of the movie (especially Asia) had Pizza Hut tie-ins instead.
Demolition Man 2 was is in the works.
But not anymore.
At least, we still have just the one.
Jen you’re adorable. I love that you just embrace these movies for what they are, cheese and all.
If you want to see Stallone in a decidedly non-action role, he was in a really endearing little farce called Oscar back in the early 90s. Really underrated film.
Oscar is great without doubt :D
I feel like Lenina Huxley could be Jen's spirit animal.
I agree with everything you said
Years ago, when Gurnee Mills megamall opened near where I live, they had a Planet Hollywood... among the memorabilia on display was the mannequin of the "frozen" John Spartan seen during the opening credits.
Good reaction Jen...and a great movie to watch on Sly's birthday today.

Great reaction, as ever! Saw this at the cinema with my mates when we were all about 17/18 yrs old and still love it now. It's just a really fun action film that does the whole tongue-in-cheek, self-aware thing well. We may or may not have all been proper taken with "Sandy B" haha!
N'thing the obvious "Last Action Hero" recommendation as a follow-up sometime. They're both kinda attempted answers to "How do you make an '80s action film and/or star work for these grungy, cynical late-Gen-X'ers nowadays?" which is a daft question in itself but definitely fun movies both

Hi Jen, if you're interested in more Welsey Snipes. Try the Blade Trilogy. Snipes plays a super hero called Blade who fights evil vampires . Lots of action and fun.
and Blade is part of the Marvel Universe...and if they had the rights to Blade (I don't know if they do or not) they could add him to the MCU!
@@ar47yrr4p Blade is coming, played by Mahershala Ali.
@@mizrolist Few things about that... when I first heard this quite a few months back, my initial first reaction was "that's gonna be horrible, I can't see him as Blade". But then I thought about it for a few minutes and thought "he's a really really good actor, and he might be able to pull it off.. I'll give him a chance"
But then not too long ago I heard the movie was cancelled because of too much shit going on in production... essentially Mahershala wanted to remain true to the character and the comics but the writers/producers had something else in mind.

References to Pizza Hut were added to Demolition Man in post-production, including everything from logos to dubbed-over dialogue
with his maniacal laugh Snipes really does one of the best Joker performances in this movie.
"All swears are muted because RUclips restricts my videos with swearing" - Jen Murry
Hi Jen🙋♂️
I didn't realize your swearing was getting out of control.
Thanks Jen 🙋♂️🍾🥂🍾
Sorry for the long long read.
@@waterbeauty85 Echoes of what happened with GI Joe: The Movie, when they dubbed in a line to reveal that a main character wasn’t QUITE dead!
Judge Dredd is a good action film, but it's not a real Judge Dredd film. For that there is Dredd (2012) with Karl Urban and Lena Headey.
@@mizrolist Agreed. That’d be a good one for Mary too!

Perfect!!! 😎👌
OK, you have probably already figured out that this is a very clever satire of 1990s action movies, but it is a really good one.
From the internet:
The fictional future of Demolition Man is one where the Oldies radio station plays jingles from 20th-century commercials and where all the restaurants are Taco Bell, which apparently won the "franchise wars." (It was changed to Pizza Hut in the film's European release because Taco Bell was less well-known overseas).
I love Demolition Man because it becomes more and more true every year.
A few have already said it but Last Action Hero is similar to this and I think you would enjoy it!
LAST ACTION HERO (1993) would be a great one to do Jen - Schwarzenegger in a really meta, satirical, action romp - very weird and very fun!
13:53 "They just play _commercials?_ That's my worst, worst nightmare. Musically."
Yeah. Suddenly, this future is looking kind of dystopian.
EOM also had a non-Taco Bell version.

So good! First feature by Italian superstar commercial director (based back then in Toronto btw) Marco Brambilla who has gone on to be recognized in the art world (we met once or twice… nice guy!) If you're going to watch Stallone, you *have* to watch the Rocky franchise.
