At the time of filming (1993), Jackie Chan was not as well known internationally. People familiar with his work knew him mostly for his Hong Kong action films. His international notoriety coincidentally grew after this movie came out.
This one was so entertaining because it dropped so many names verbally and visually and so full of action , plus the whole story was radically wonderful . Sandra and Wesley were great too.
I'm a Kentuckian by birth but a committed Canada-phile (the only thing I know about my bio dad was that he was "of French Canadian stock.") So my whole life I've worshipped Canada, especially Barbara Budd and Mary Lou FIndlay hosting "As It Happens" on Canadian short wave radio. May I therefore frickin say, this Canada Day week, Happy Canada Day, not just to Jen, but to all of us on the planet who totally benefit from sharing its surface with Canada. Love from Louisville, Kentucky, where we Stand on Guard For Thee, best neighbors a country ever had.
I forgot there was 2 different versions of the movie. Most people saw the original “Taco Bell” version. I never even knew a “Pizza Hut” version existed until I started watching RUclips first time watching videos. Crazy stuff.
Back in the Days Wesley Snipes was a serious Martial Arts Fighter. He has the 5th Dan in Shotokan Karate, does also Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxin. Its fun to watch him fight in Movies.
I love this film. Simon Phoenix maybe one of my favorite bad guys of all time. I was watching this way too much in the 90’s on VHS. So it was funny because for the marketing of the film MTV had a behind the scenes special showing the explosion of the building in the beginning. They legit brew up a building that was planned for demolition. The Pizza Hut thing was for international release of the film. I’m unsure why they don’t keep the Taco Bell as it’s the original franchise. Wesley Snipe is amazing. Some recommendations of films have to be these… Passenger 57 Money Train White Men Can’t Jump Blade Trilogy And New Jack City
That whole Pizza Hut thing was definitely dubbed. It's actually Taco Bell. I've seen this movie dozens of times ever since 1993 and this was the first time I heard them say "Pizza Hut" instead of "Taco Bell".
You're correct about the Pizza Hut dub. In the original version it was Taco Bell. Other chains like McDonald's and Burger King didn't want any ties to an R-rated film. Taco Bell didn't care and because Pizza Hut and Taco Bell was owned by the same company, they decided to use Pizza Hut in the international cut because Pizza Hut was more well known in other countries.
Interesting. Here in NZ in about 95 I taped this on my VHS off Sky which is our equivalent of cable I suppose. And it was the USA version. I just got a fright when I saw this reaction because I had no idea they changed it and it seemed wrong lol
Years ago, when Gurnee Mills megamall opened near where I live, they had a Planet Hollywood... among the memorabilia on display was the mannequin of the "frozen" John Spartan seen during the opening credits.
This movie always makes me laugh because for big parts of the movie the "future" is actually a complex in LA that used to be The Spelling Building. It was owned by TV legend Aaron Spelling. I worked there for a long time so it makes me laugh that it's The Future. It's in a bunch of movies and shows but this one really tickles me. This and when the TV version of The Hulk threw down in the lobby. LOL.
Jen singing "The Love Boat" was not on my bingo card but I loved it. And we even got some very cool dance moves for the credits! :) This movie's so much fun.
You know, after seeing Demolition Man so many times over the years, I only just made the connection between the way Wesley Snipes dies at the end, and what he said to Stallone at the beginning when he "forgets" where he put the hostages: "I swear, I'd lose my head if it wasn't attached."
Great reaction Jen! Wesley Snipes is in one called New Jack City that also has Ice T in it along with a few others. Great movie to check out if you can!
Supposedly, there are deleted scenes involving Spartan's wife and daughter... they come to see him at the cryo-prison before beginning his sentence. He later is reunited with his daughter, as she's now a member of Edgar Friendly's group. Although these scenes were cut, the actress playing his daughter is supposedly still in the movie.
17:09 In the U.S. release of "Demolition Man", the resturaunt was Taco Bell, but in other countries they used Pizza Hut because there wasn't very many countries outside the U.S. that had Taco Bell locations, whereas pizza hut had a much larger presence internationally
I'm old enough to remember, when Pizza Hut was the finest restaurant in London, England! This was long before Gordon Ramsey, back when fish & chips was one the only decent things going over there. Wasn't a huge deal though. France was just a ferry boat ride or short flight away.
I knew the name from the song by The Police and that Grace Jones did a cover of it. For this movie, that is a new version performed by Sting. Stallone and Snipes were gold in this one Humor, action and plenty of one liners. A lot of foreshadowings in this society are so well displayed (smart and scary). There was toys, video games (Genesis, SNES, PS1, 3D0), an actual tie-in with Taco Bell (collector's cups, posters) as seen in the Stateside version of the film. The international version of the movie (especially Asia) had Pizza Hut tie-ins instead. Demolition Man 2 was is in the works. But not anymore. At least, we still have just the one.
For Wesley Snipes you may like Blade (1998)(Marvel Vampires) or U.S. Marshalls (1998) (with Tommy Lee Jones playing same character from the Fugitive). For Jackie Chan almost anything but the list must include: Police Story (1985), Drunken Master II (1994), Supercop (1992), and Rumble in the Bronx (1995).
If you want to see Stallone in a decidedly non-action role, he was in a really endearing little farce called Oscar back in the early 90s. Really underrated film.
Yay!!! One of my all time favorites. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this movie. And I’ll watch again with you! So excited. Thanks for what you do. May your views and likes always be equal.
From a scene compilation video, I got this swearing fine count by actor. Stallone 16, Snipes 10 (both 1 credit each), and Sandra Bullock once (half-credit, the film's first fine).
Hate to tell you Jen but we already live in that reality. It's not just RUclips. Our tickets are more or less public canceling of others for virtual glory points. Can't say something or do anything without worry. This movie is ahead of it's time. If you're looking for more Wesley Snipes movies. Marvel's Blade is great. Rated R compared to the MCU.
Love your Reaction! i recommend you a Hilarious Parody of Action Movies > The Other Guys (2010) || Cast || Will Ferrell, Derek Jeter, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes , Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Dwayne Johnson
Great reaction, as ever! Saw this at the cinema with my mates when we were all about 17/18 yrs old and still love it now. It's just a really fun action film that does the whole tongue-in-cheek, self-aware thing well. We may or may not have all been proper taken with "Sandy B" haha! N'thing the obvious "Last Action Hero" recommendation as a follow-up sometime. They're both kinda attempted answers to "How do you make an '80s action film and/or star work for these grungy, cynical late-Gen-X'ers nowadays?" which is a daft question in itself but definitely fun movies both
It was fun seeing some of the Pizza Hut version (the obvious dubs reminded me of the old TV dubbed versions of films, where you could still see the swear words, even if they’d been dubbed over!)! I think they did different fast-food chains for different territories and spent quite a bit of money on VFX to change the signage in the movie, but over here in the UK they used the original Taco Bell version (at least on video, which is how I first saw it). I remember wondering what the heck Taco Bell was! As for other 90s actiony sci-fi Stallone pics, Jen, I think I’d recommend Judge Dredd (1995). Fans of the original comic understandably hated it, but I thought it was good fun and you would probably enjoy it just for what it is, without all the fandom baggage and stuff. There’s quite a lot of similarities to Demolition Man in the story, now I come to think of it… hmm…
Speaking of dubbing that was "inaccurate," I remember turning on the Tv one afternoon and seeing then end of an episode of "Battle of the Planets" (a dubbed version of the Japanese "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" series). It was obvious that a character had been fatally wounded and that the other characters were emotionally devastated by his death, but the English dubbed dialogue said something like "He's only sleeping. He'll be alright. But we'll never rest until we get the villains for hurting him!" to make it acceptable for American children's TV.
Enhance your calm indeed 🙂Hope you're having a wonderful Friday Jen 🎈 loved the full reaction but wasn't sure I'd watched the Ty edit so here we are 🎉send a maniac to catch a maniac opportunity for a wisdom nugget missed there Jen 🥺 I'm actually compiling a list of your wisdom nuggets as i go through all your videos cuz i love them so friggin much 🙌 this movie was so much fun and seeing you laugh and have a good time is always jentastic to see thanks as always for the laughs 🔥
Wesley has done loads of great movies like Blade but a good old film I think you’ll like to react to is called Passenger 57...anyone else agree guys?...
I guess in Canada it's Pizza Hut. I've always heard they changed it from Taco Bell for outside the US, but I've never seen it. Even Cinebinge's reaction was Taco Bell.
It depends what streaming service it was on, Amazon version has Pizza Hut, but when it was on Netflix it was the Taco Bell version. When it was originally released in theaters Canadians got the Taco Bell version.
For more wesley Snipes, there are two of my favourites of his: "Blade" and thereis also the trilogy, but the best one out of the three is the first one, and of course "U.S. Marshals". This is a good sarcastic film, good references and also shows when society has taken things too far into the other direction. Great watch and rewatch :)
Great an awesome review!!!! Growing up during those ancient days of the 1970s, I do remember the "Franchise Wars" between McDonalds & Burger King AND the "Cola Wars" between Coca-Cola & Pepsi-Cola. You either were for 1 side of the fast-food chain or the others and the Cola wars were the same. In my house with a family of 5, 2 were for Coca-Cola and 2 were for Pepsi-Cola with the last person drinking either/or AND everyone pretty much went with McDonalds because they were everywhere, and BK was trying to assert themselves. Also, one of the best advertising schemes that McDonalds had was underneath the "Golden Arches" there would be another sign promoting how many were served worldwide (something like "25-milloon served worldwide" or whatever the number would be. Think most people back then went to McDonalds just to try and see the sign change eventually. Some brutal (and awesome) marketing ideas between all parties involved promoting their respective products- really do not see anything like that anymore!!!! Pizza Hut & Taco Bell were apart of those wars, but not a very integral part. Think this movie, and her performance in "Speed" are Sandra Bullocks best performances. Also, EVERYONE S-T-E-A-L-S their scenes in this movie whether by themselves or interacting with others. Great/fun movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never knew they had a version of this film where they replaced Taco Bell with Pizza Hut. This is trippy. The three sea shells was a joke, but the guy who came up with it; actually made up how to use them. You take two and stick them together between your palm and fingers to use as tweezers to remove any large bits, then you dump them in the toilet. You then use the third shell to scrape anything left behind, throw it in the loo and flush...
Wesley Snipes has an impressive film career. I'd advise the "Blade" trilogy, "Passenger 57" and "U. S. Marshalls". And for some very cheesy Stallone that cane out around the same time as demolition man, try out "Judge Dredd".
It was Taco Bell when I saw it in the theater in 1993. Since Pizza Hut was more popular outside of the United States, they overdubbed it for international versions. Both restaurant chains were owned by the same company, Pepsico, at the time.
Hi Jen, if you're interested in more Welsey Snipes. Try the Blade Trilogy. Snipes plays a super hero called Blade who fights evil vampires . Lots of action and fun.
@@mizrolist Few things about that... when I first heard this quite a few months back, my initial first reaction was "that's gonna be horrible, I can't see him as Blade". But then I thought about it for a few minutes and thought "he's a really really good actor, and he might be able to pull it off.. I'll give him a chance" But then not too long ago I heard the movie was cancelled because of too much shit going on in production... essentially Mahershala wanted to remain true to the character and the comics but the writers/producers had something else in mind. Last I heard they are not going forward with it... at least not with Mahershala!
Great reaction Jen 👍. Another Wesley Snipes movie that you would love is US Marshalls with Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Downey Jr. If you watched The Fugitive Tommy Lee Jones plays the same US Marshall this time hunting Wesley Snipes.
As per Expendables(2010) stars: I think the only star there that you're not intimately familiar with might be Dolph Lundgren, in which case I would suggest The Punisher(1989), Showdown in Little Tokyo(1991), and Universal Soldier(1992). And of course, Rocky IV(1985)
Loved the introduction to Sandra Bullock. Yessssssssssssss all the Rambos for sure. If Taco Bell survived the fast food wars then that would be alright with me lol. At the time of filming (1993), Jackie Chan was not as well known internationally. People familiar with his work knew him mostly for his Hong Kong action films. His international notoriety coincidentally grew after this movie came out.
Also Van Damme and Seagal
This one was so entertaining because it dropped so many names verbally and visually and so full of action , plus the whole story was radically wonderful . Sandra and Wesley were great too.
Really glad Wesley reconsidered playing Simon Phoenix after initially turning it down. He owned that role.
Some recommendations of films have to be these…
Passenger 57
Money Train
White Men Can’t Jump
Blade Trilogy
And New Jack City
A Stallone movie hardly anyone has seen is “Oscar”. It’s a comedy where he plays a gangster trying to become a banker. Amazing cast.
I love that movie. It feels like it was written for the stage, also reminds me of Clue.
That whole Pizza Hut thing was definitely dubbed. It's actually Taco Bell. I've seen this movie dozens of times ever since 1993 and this was the first time I heard them say "Pizza Hut" instead of "Taco Bell".
@Tessmage_Tessera I wasn't aware of that. Now, it makes more sense to me. Thank you for that info.
Jen you’re adorable. I love that you just embrace these movies for what they are, cheese and all.
Such a fun movie! Easy recommendations are Tango & Cash and Passenger 57 for Stallone and Snipes, and Last Action Hero for satire!
I love the computer going off in the background any time John Spartan says a swear word. Been cracking me up for 30 years. 🤣
Years ago, when Gurnee Mills megamall opened near where I live, they had a Planet Hollywood... among the memorabilia on display was the mannequin of the "frozen" John Spartan seen during the opening credits.
I love Demolition Man because it becomes more and more true every year.
Jen you have the best one liner reactions. “Gross and awesome!” Is the top!
I feel like Lenina Huxley could be Jen's spirit animal.
8:30 Yes! Blade, for example. Also, if you like this, you probably like Judge Dredd (the one from the 90s)
eeewwwwww The Stallone Dredd is an abomination
This movie always makes me laugh because for big parts of the movie the "future" is actually a complex in LA that used to be The Spelling Building. It was owned by TV legend Aaron Spelling. I worked there for a long time so it makes me laugh that it's The Future. It's in a bunch of movies and shows but this one really tickles me. This and when the TV version of The Hulk threw down in the lobby. LOL.
Good reaction Jen...and a great movie to watch on Sly's birthday today.
Jen singing "The Love Boat" was not on my bingo card but I loved it. And we even got some very cool dance moves for the credits! :) This movie's so much fun.
😂😂🤘
"Heh, he doesn't know about the sea shells."
Also, I'm sure RUclips loves the idea of the "verbal morality police".

In the U.S. release of "Demolition Man", the resturaunt was Taco Bell, but in other countries they used Pizza Hut because there wasn't very many countries outside the U.S. that had Taco Bell locations, whereas pizza hut had a much larger presence internationally
I was wondering why they did that. I used to have this on VHS and it was def Taco Bell in the original.
I'm old enough to remember, when Pizza Hut was the finest restaurant in London, England!
This was long before Gordon Ramsey, back when fish & chips was one the only decent things going over there.
Wasn't a huge deal though. France was just a ferry boat ride or short flight away.
They made several props of Stallone in the ice cube. They were hung from the ceiling of Planet Hollywood restaurants, all over the country.
I knew the name from the song by The Police and that Grace Jones did a cover of it.
For this movie, that is a new version performed by Sting.
Stallone and Snipes were gold in this one
Humor, action and plenty of one liners.
A lot of foreshadowings in this society are so well displayed (smart and scary).
There was toys, video games (Genesis, SNES, PS1, 3D0), an actual tie-in
with Taco Bell (collector's cups, posters) as seen in the Stateside version of the film.
The international version of the movie (especially Asia) had Pizza Hut tie-ins instead.
Demolition Man 2 was is in the works.
But not anymore.
At least, we still have just the one.
We're 23 years ahead of schedule
For Wesley Snipes you may like Blade (1998)(Marvel Vampires) or U.S. Marshalls (1998) (with Tommy Lee Jones playing same character from the Fugitive).
For Jackie Chan almost anything but the list must include: Police Story (1985), Drunken Master II (1994), Supercop (1992), and Rumble in the Bronx (1995).
I agree with everything you said
Tango & Cash is a good movie. It's also got Kurt Russell.
If you want to see Stallone in a decidedly non-action role, he was in a really endearing little farce called Oscar back in the early 90s. Really underrated film.
Oscar is great without doubt :D
Ohhh hell yeah, this is going to be tactical Jen in her glory.
LAST ACTION HERO (1993) would be a great one to do Jen - Schwarzenegger in a really meta, satirical, action romp - very weird and very fun!
Love your Reaction! i recommend you a Hilarious Parody of Action Movies
> The Other Guys (2010)
|| Cast || Will Ferrell, Derek Jeter, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes , Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Dwayne Johnson
MC Villain!!😂😂😂
Another Jen 'Jem'! 🤣🤣
They're both kinda attempted answers to "How do you make an '80s action film and/or star work for these grungy, cynical late-Gen-X'ers nowadays?" which is a daft question in itself but definitely fun movies both
Snipes is a good action star. I think you'd really enjoy Blade. It's a fun vampire action movie... marvel before the MCU was a thing.
Another one of my favorites from my favorite movie genre-the action comedy. This movie still makes me laugh.
@@waterbeauty85 Echoes of what happened with GI Joe: The Movie, when they dubbed in a line to reveal that a main character wasn’t QUITE dead!
Judge Dredd is a good action film, but it's not a real Judge Dredd film. For that there is Dredd (2012) with Karl Urban and Lena Headey.
@@mizrolist Agreed. That’d be a good one for Mary too!
Love this movie. Phoenix is one of my favorite movie villains and the three seashells never gets old.
A few have already said it but Last Action Hero is similar to this and I think you would enjoy it!
with his maniacal laugh Snipes really does one of the best Joker performances in this movie.
Wesley has done loads of great movies like Blade but a good old film I think you’ll like to react to is called Passenger 57...anyone else agree guys?...
Mellow greetings Jen. I do hope you are not having a boggle today. If so, perhaps dinner at Taco Bell will make your day more joy joy. :D
YES!!! Champagne... and the sparkling wine at "Taco Bell"(you were correct) is of course, the finest.
EOM also had a non-Taco Bell version.
@@promiscuous675 I've never watched him.
You never watched OEM? Oh shut the f*ck up. If you know you know 🤣😁
In France 🇫🇷 it’s Pizza Hut too.
For Wesley Snipes maybe try Blade during Halloween.
Perfect!!! 😎👌
"Civilization as we know it will come to an end!"
"That's a good thing."
Lol we love you Jen
I never knew they had a version of this film where they replaced Taco Bell with Pizza Hut. This is trippy. The three sea shells was a joke, but the guy who came up with it; actually made up how to use them. You take two and stick them together between your palm and fingers to use as tweezers to remove any large bits, then you dump them in the toilet. You then use the third shell to scrape anything left behind, throw it in the loo and flush...
I need to get your Patreon soon Jen. Im Australian , were used to swearing over here. But of course your content is great 🤘
Wesley Snipes has an impressive film career. I'd advise the "Blade" trilogy, "Passenger 57" and "U. S. Marshalls". And for some very cheesy Stallone that cane out around the same time as demolition man, try out "Judge Dredd".
Although Judge Dredd (1995) is an inferior movie to Dredd (2012), which stars Karl Urban in the title role and really captures the Mega-City One vibe.
Be well, and always enhance your calm. 😊
For action spoofs/homages, I highly recommend Hot Fuzz. It's a blast, and it gets better the more action movies you've seen.
Hot Fuzz is posting on Saturday, on Patreon now!
It was Taco Bell when I saw it in the theater in 1993. Since Pizza Hut was more popular outside of the United States, they overdubbed it for international versions. Both restaurant chains were owned by the same company, Pepsico, at the time.
They are both owned by Yum! Brands now.
I'm in the UK and we also had Taco Bell and not Pizza Hut.
Thank you! I was worried there for a second, either that I had a brain tumor or this was the biggest Mandela Effect moment I have ever had. Whew.
@@chrissmalley83Along with the colonel and Long John Silver.
At 24:48 you can see them overdub Pizza Hut with Sly still mouthing Taco Bell. lmao!
murderdeathkill??!!?? y’all are CRUSHING it with the Patreon picks!!
Hi Jen, if you're interested in more Welsey Snipes. Try the Blade Trilogy. Snipes plays a super hero called Blade who fights evil vampires . Lots of action and fun.
and Blade is part of the Marvel Universe...and if they had the rights to Blade (I don't know if they do or not) they could add him to the MCU!
@@ar47yrr4p Blade is coming, played by Mahershala Ali.
@@mizrolist Few things about that... when I first heard this quite a few months back, my initial first reaction was "that's gonna be horrible, I can't see him as Blade". But then I thought about it for a few minutes and thought "he's a really really good actor, and he might be able to pull it off.. I'll give him a chance"
But then not too long ago I heard the movie was cancelled because of too much shit going on in production... essentially Mahershala wanted to remain true to the character and the comics but the writers/producers had something else in mind. Last I heard they are not going forward with it... at least not with Mahershala!
I look forward to enjoy-joying this reaction. Surely, I will encounter no boggles, but if I do, I will proceed with extreme assertiveness.
I'd "Second" that...most people only ever React to "The Fugitive" but I wish they'd include the Sequel too.
If you love Stallone, then i can only recommend tango & cash. Cheesy as hell, but loads of fun.
An essential Wesley Snipes Movie is "Blade" there are I think three or four of them and also a comicbook in the marvel universe.
Loved the introduction to Sandra Bullock. Yessssssssssssss all the Rambos for sure. If Taco Bell survived the fast food wars then that would be alright with me lol. The guy that Simon had shoot Dr. Cocteau was Jesse Ventura, Ventura was a former WWE wrestler and Governor of Minnesota. He also appeared in Predator and The Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Spectacular job as always Jen, Mello Greetings : )
Thanks, Jen. This might have been my introduction to Sandra Bullock and Wesley Snipes.
Yes more Wesley Snipes movies please!! For more action flicks I recommend "Passenger 57" & of course the "Blade" trilogy, If you want to see him as a villain again "New Jack City", If you want fun comedy "White Men Can't Jump", "Money Train"
