I love this movie! Once a year, I do a movie marathon of my favorite 90's bat-sh*t crazy action flicks: RICOCHET, DEMOLITION MAN, VIRTUOSITY, and Face/Off. All the antagonists are so deliciously evil!😊
It's funny how John mentioned Pizza Hut in that little jingle after you said Taco Bell because there are 2 versions of this film where one film it's Taco Bell as the one left standing and the other version it's Pizza Hut is the one who is left standing.
Wesley Snipes absolutely ATE every single scene he was in. for me, he was THE standout performance in this movie and you could tell he was having a blast while filming. Demolition Man will forever be up there as one of my top 5 favorite action movies of the 90s. thanks for the reaction guys! ❤
I remember watching a clip of this on the tv at the video store and just standing there watching it in awe. I was huge Wesley fan and a Stallone fan. Moms had got a copy of it that day, got some pizza joes otw home too. One of the best evenings of my childhood lol
Wesley Snipes was still new to action movies when this came out. Passenger 57 (1992) was the first film where he displayed his martial arts skills! So seeing him share the screen with Sylvester Stallone was awesome to see!
Fun Fact: He actually quit his Major League role to film Passenger 57 to which the writers responded by recasting his character Willie Mays Hays with Omar Epps. As an added way to throw shade at Wesley Snipes, they had his character parodied(for lack of a better term) as a wannabe action star on the side of his baseball career where his character co-stars with the actual Jesse Ventura in a overly cheesy action movie. Seeing Jesse Ventura in this movie reminded me of that interesting bit of useless knowledge lol.
The old dude was just in the next room. There was a split second where the big dude looked slightly to the side and it was a hint that he was just in the next room.
Fun fact: In Europe, Taco Bell was replaced by Pizza Hut because there weren't any Taco Bells there at the time. So when streaming, you can tell you're watching the international version based on what franchise is featured.

The 3 seashells came about because the screenwriter (Daniel Waters) wanted there to be something futuristic about the bathroom. He couldn't come up with an idea so he called a friend to ask for one. The friend had decorative seashells in his bathroom and thus the 3 seashells were born. Stallone has said he was told by one of the writers that shells 1 & 2 are used like chop sticks to pull out the poop. Shell 3 is used to scrape out the excess. This is the closest to an official answer.

Yes, excited for this one! We had a bunch of VHS tapes growing up, and this 90s classic along with Die Hard, True Lies and Lethal Weapon were always on hand for a good time. 🧡
The Running Man is another great film as well. I remember as a child watching a tape that my mum recorded of a really wholesome short kids film but when winding through the tape I discovered that the Running Man was fully recorded on the VHS. So I watched that instead, can't recall if Running Man was taped over the kids film maybe that's why it was short but I love Running Man and felt like you discovered something you were not meant to watch. My mum is a child/teen of the 80s so I grew up on those films so along with Demolition Man this is where my love of 80s action films came from.

Screenwriter Daniel Waters got the idea of Demolition Man from watching films like THE TERMINATOR and Lethal Weapon and blended the two together, but instead of using time travel, he thought the hero and the villain should be cryogenically frozen and wake up 100 years in the future where crime is outlawed and when these two face off, the future isn't big enough for the both of them.
John Spartan's daughter was in the movie at one point. She's one of the "scraps" living underground. During the scene when Phoenix ambushes Spartan and Edgar Friendly, you can see John briefly using his body to shield a woman from Phoenix's gunfire. That was her, but the scene in which they recognize each other was cut from the movie.
This and Last Action Hero are a perfect double bill. And if there's a prequel movie out there that I want to see materialize it's the Franchise Wars film.
Last Action Hero is another movie getting the props it deserves lately too. So many people who've reacted to it usually ask, "Why did this flop? It's so fun and kind of disturbing with the messages at the end (ie in the real world, the bad guys can win, etc)".

I really love you guys watching these old 80's and 90's action movies. This was really the golden age of action. There are theories and a story Stallone said one of the writers told him about the function of the 3 seashells. The truth is that 30 years later everyone is still just as boggled as John Spartan about how to use them. 😂😂
It's become such an iconic meme that they included it as an easter egg in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. The main character's apartment has 3 seashells in the bathroom next to the toilet.
I'd love to see you guys do a reaction to True Lies (1994) It holds up to this day in terms of story, action, stunt work and practical fx imo, James Cameron did such a great job with it. Definitely one of my all time favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movies.

That cop is Richard Donner's real-life cousin and the boss from Lethal Weapon series who also appeared in Assassins that dies at the hands of Stallone's character which was directed by Richard Donner.
I had a MiniDisc recorder back in 99. It was great for making mixtapes. But once I could burn CD's with a computer, I didn't really need it anymore. I got back into it recently, partly for nostalgia and partly to make permanent copies of streaming music.
The song Demolition Man was a song on The Police’s fourth album Ghost In The Machine. It was also covered by Grace Jones. The song and video was played on the early days of MTV.
I love how they convicted Spartan on the word of a sociopathic narcissistic mass murderer. I'm sorry my couple years of prelaw could have probably gotten Spartan off 😅
And not to mention that him taking a thermal and not getting any heat readings could easily prove that the hostages were already dead before Spartan even arrived
Demolition Man is one of the best movies I've ever seen. For the first time when I was 8 years old, and together with my son (7) we still enjoy watching it very much. Simon Phoenix is without a doubt one of the BEST villains.
48:08 fun fact, that joke could have been double meaning, if Jacke Chan himself did nog reject offer to play Phoenix character (he had policy to not play bad guys ever).
3 sea shells is a play off the old 3 corn cobs . The outhouse was fitted with 3 corn cobs 2 brown and a white. Used the brown then the white to see if you needed another brown one.
"It's the captain from 'Lethal Weapon!'" That's "Lethal Weapon" director Richard Donner's (1930-2021) cousin Steve Kahan (1939-still kicking it somewhere)
I love this movie - it's so over the top, that's it's brilliant. Snipes especially is fantastic - personally, I like to imagine this performance is his version of the Joker. - I wrote that before finishing their reaction. I guess they saw the same Joker potential I did. Funny. 😀
The line by Spartan, "is it cold in here or is it just me?" that you were talking about being "an Arnold line," when it was said at 51:47, wasn't a reference to Arnold but was a call back to the beginning of the movie where Simon said it at 4:09. He said it just before he threw his cigarette to light the gas to blow up the building.
this movie embodies the 90s, man im so glad i grew up with quality movies like this haha lol the rat burger looks better then any mcDs burger we actually get irl
I never realized the word "Exactamundo" was first said by Wesley Snipes' Simon Phoenix. I always keep saying it and watching again I found out Snipes came up with catch phrase.
Whenever a reaction channel uploads Demolition Man it is an instant click for me. Thank you for checking this out and I hope you had a good time watching it!
The best explanation of the three seashells is this: Nobody knows. Nobody THERE knows. They're just all too embarrassed to admit that they don't know so all assume each other know. I love that theory.
Btw, if you look into the making of halo, you will find that the main character JOHN who's part of the SPARTAN 2 program was named after Sylvester Stallones character
I saw the prop where Sly is frozen in a block and the crane is lifting the ice block in real life. That thing was built to scale. It's amazing in person.
For more Stallone (comedy), you should react to Oscar. It is one of my family’s favorites and so funny. Marisa Tomei in her first big performance on film (year before My Cousin Vinny) + Tim Curry. So good…
I remember seeing this movie in theaters and when the music score kicked in, I leaned over to my friend and said, "This guy has to do the score for the next Batman movie!" (Elliot Goldenthal-Batman Forever)
At the House of the Future the Smart Toilet featured a built-in bidet and blow dryer. I postulate that the three seashells are a wash, a dryer, and then a flusher button.
The locations used in the film were a way the budget was kept relatively low. Oldsmobile also made the concept cars. People say they like practical effects and real locations but then they put them down and joke about them. It is so funny how you didn't know the hot dog jingle was real. Your assessment of the movie coming after "Speed" was completely off. This is the movie that introduced Bullock to most people and then "Speed" really made her well-known. Next, "While You Were Sleeping" turned her into a leading lady and star. In 1993, technology and internet were getting a lot of reporting. AT&T had commercials promising that "you will" do all sorts of things like check out libraries from home and watch movies while on the beach, etc.
7:20 I never saw this movie, but I thought the SAME thing: freezing someone for decades...they'll just thaw out, wake up and be the SAME person. In fact, it's a very nice way to serve a sentence since you wouldn't have to SUFFER in a prison at all. Now I have to see this film! Thanks for posting this!
For Coy MDK was reference to M.O.D.O.K. the writers gave a nod to comics since this film is done in a comic matter. A violent supervillian out of time placed in an environment without violence to be stopped by a out of time supercop using violence to catch him. It's a comicbook if I ever heard one.
For some non-American releases, references to Taco Bell were changed to Pizza Hut since the former was virtually unknown in many foreign countries at the time. This includes both dubbing and changing the logos during post-production. Taco Bell however remains in the closing credits. In both the Dutch and Swedish releases the subtitles still use Taco Bell while the sound and picture have been altered as above. Also, when using closed captioning on cable television, references to Taco Bell are changed to Pizza Hut.
@ReelRejects The fun little fact about that was that the Schwarzenegger library was actually written in Sandra's script and not sylvesters so he didn't know about it so that reaction is actually genuine. Also fun little fact in the version that was released in the United Kingdom it's actually switched out from Taco Bell because they didn't have Taco Bell in England at the time they switched it to Pizza Hut
@chadreactions actually you are correct sir and I apologize it was Pizza Hut. Apparently McDonald's and Burger King passed on the opportunity due to the R rating for the movie
Another fun little fact. After 30 days as my prison cell mate, you would be able to take a dump much easier because your rectal muscles would have been expanded.
The three seashells method was revealed by a writer from the film. You use two shells like tweezers/chopsticks to remove any of the larger bits that might have stuck around or not completely evacuated, then you scrap away the remnants with the third shell...
Although I must say that I do really appreciate the thought they put into the process of securing and rehabilitating prisoners in this time. Because the technology is something that scientists have been trying to figure out for years now. Hibernation like that over extended period of time without causing the subject to age or have to expend or consume calories to maintain their life processes have been something scientists been trying to figure out for a while now to use mostly in future deep space travel
That's cool. The problem I see with hibernation like in this film and Alien is your muscles. They can atrophy just from being in bed for a few weeks. After months or years of being asleep with no activity, you'd be too weak to move if not permanently disabled. Your body can even stop breathing because it's so weak. It makes me think we'll never be able to survive a trip to Mars. Astronauts would be physically helpless by the time they got there.
@@rscott7651It doesn't take that long to get to Mars. Less than a year. Astronauts heading there would do exactly like they do on the Space station, exercise with resistance bands and treadmills/stationery bikes etc. One movie that shows a good example of how they would stay in shape is The Martian.
@@psycho42069 I don't think anyone in real life can say exactly how long it will take to travel to Mars, especially when you factor in anything that can go wrong like health issues among the crew. I was talking about long term hibernation though. The idea of waking up and just moving around like normal is unrealistic. Atrophy can affect people differently, but your body deteriorates from inactivity. I've spent a good amount of time in a hospital bed, and I pretty much had to learn how to walk again. My legs were like jelly. And I wasn't asleep in zero gravity for months. Hibernation would only work if there was already a hospital on Mars where astronauts could rehabilitate when they get there. They'll be alone and sickly.
@@rscott7651 Your points on hibernation are (or could be) all valid, I'm not arguing with them. The travel time to Mars though is no guess. We've sent many probes, rovers, etc there and we KNOW it takes roughly 8 months to travel to Mars from Earth. There is a window that the planets need to be in the correct alignment, and that window only comes around about every 2.5 years so that's about how often we can send missions to/from Mars, but nobody would need to hibernate for that journey. Like I said, astronauts have spent longer periods on the space station.
@@psycho42069 We haven't sent humans though. Living people on board changes everything. Hibernation during the trip to Mars is something I've heard speculation about to lower costs and stress among the crew, I just see a lot of issues with it. Astronauts that spend months on the space station still need medical care afterward. There won't be any on Mars. I don't see them being fit enough to do anything when they get there whether they hibernate or not.
If you like this movie you should watch Virtuosity with Denzel and Russel Crow. Russel plays an AI serial killer come to life. Another great 90s sci-fi action movie.
If you’ve not seen it, I believe you guys would LOVE True Lies. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis, another unlikely pairing but it’s perfection. It also has Tom Arnold as the best comic relief I’ve ever seen.
Wesley Snipes ATE up every single scene in this film. Absolutely love how much fun he had here and Stallone just let him own the spotlight. Great work here.
My only kinda problem (while the line is brilliant) is when he asks about wiping after she just told him she wanted to jump his bone. But yeah, this movie is great and quite smart for what you might expect.
1:01:01 Nope! This is BEFORE Speed. This is actually the first time I saw Sandra Bullock in anything and I think this was her first action movie. Speed came out the year after this in 1994. She only had a handful of movie credits before this and some TV work. The earliest being a movie called Hangmen in 1987.
Im feeling a bit nostalgic at the moment, this bringing back memories of childhood entertainment, would LOVE down the line to see Surf Ninjas, Tank Girl, and/or Encino Man... And DEFINITELY Meteor Man
Spartan saw “Associate Bob” looking in a different direction to the monitors, so Spartan went into the other room and held the gun to his head. The 3 seashells? Not the foggiest nor do I want to know. In all honesty Demolition Man is one of my all time favourite movies.

34:32 I just noticed that she gave Spartan a towel but not herself- is the towel for him to "clean up" after the end of the virtual sex??? 😂😂
22:23 Christ i woke up in Canada
"It's the captain from 'Lethal Weapon!'"
That's "Lethal Weapon" director Richard Donner's (1930-2021) cousin Steve Kahan (1939-still kicking it somewhere)
Johns face at the digital complimenter / street therapist is too funny! 13:44
I just saw this movie like 2 weeks ago for the first time and had SO much fun hyped for this reaction
They switched out Taco Bell for Pizza Hut here, but this used to be one of my favourite movies. This, Blade and Spawn was my childhood
I love this movie - it's so over the top, that's it's brilliant. Snipes especially is fantastic - personally, I like to imagine this performance is his version of the Joker. - I wrote that before finishing their reaction. I guess they saw the same Joker potential I did. Funny. 😀
I was thinking this but hadn't finished the video yet😂😂. Glad to hear they thought the same.
The name last name Huxley is paying homage to the author Aldoux Huxley who wrote the story "A Brave New World".
*The last name Huxley
this movie embodies the 90s, man im so glad i grew up with quality movies like this haha
lol the rat burger looks better then any mcDs burger we actually get irl
I never realized the word "Exactamundo" was first said by Wesley Snipes' Simon Phoenix. I always keep saying it and watching again I found out Snipes came up with catch phrase.
No, that would be The Fonz from "Happy Days".
Yeah. If you need proof, Samuel L. Jackson says it in reference to Fonzie in Pulp Fiction.
Wait you’re telling me a Mexican didn’t start this?? 😂 I’m being serious🤣
@@alexanderdiaz6396 Come on, you couldn't tell that it was a made-up word?
@@ComicPhreak For me first time hearing it was in this film.
Naive future Sandra Bullock is even more adorable than normal Sandra Bullock (if such a thing is possible). Great movie, great reaction video.
Whenever a reaction channel uploads Demolition Man it is an instant click for me. Thank you for checking this out and I hope you had a good time watching it!
This is one of those movies that aged to absolute perfection!
3:10 “Smart henchmen. That man can hench and shoot!” I diiiied!!☺️☺️☺️
Can't believe this is only 90's action movie Stallone and Snipes starring together
This is classic masterpiece of 90's action movie 😁
this is not just a movie but actual archival footage of our future 😁 absolute classic kick ass movie
@41:07 I love how the guy next to Friendly is just grinning his ass off, he is loving the trademark Denis Leary rant.
How did coy never learn about the 3 seashells before this viewing? crazy
I LOVE that he asks the 3-seashell question at the end of the film.
By far one of my childhood favorites
The best explanation of the three seashells is this:
Nobody knows. Nobody THERE knows. They're just all too embarrassed to admit that they don't know so all assume each other know.
I love that theory.

Btw, if you look into the making of halo, you will find that the main character JOHN who's part of the SPARTAN 2 program was named after Sylvester Stallones character
i sorry but is this really you "FIRST TIME WATCHING" OR YOUR A BUNCH OF FAKERS!
So good…
This movie has a special space in my heart, it was the very first movie I bought as a DVD and I watched the HELL out of it lol
Stallone is so, so good in this. Great balance of comedic chops and action muscle.
I clicked on this so fast! We had this on vhs and my brother and I watched it all the time. Can’t wait to watch
This movie such a classic
7:20 I never saw this movie, but I thought the SAME thing: freezing someone for decades...they'll just thaw out, wake up and be the SAME person. In fact, it's a very nice way to serve a sentence since you wouldn't have to SUFFER in a prison at all. Now I have to see this film! Thanks for posting this!
Guys! My fave fukn review in a long time! Lots of great references, and the Aldous Huxley catch!
You guys just made my Sunday! 😆
Double Team, Fifth Element, Time Cop, True Lies or Total Recall next? 🤔
Am hoping for fifth element it’s one of my favorite sci-fi movies
@@monsterking1973Mine too, it’s that perfect mix of 90’s comedy, action and adventure
@@monsterking1973john and sally did fifth element many months ago
Your right I can’t believe I forgot 😫
@@ReelRejects Oh no I missed that one, I’ll go back and check it out! Thank you 🙏🏾
You wouldn't believe how many people miss the swearing for toilet paper bit. Such a great scene!
@chadreactions it's cool sometimes all movie buffs have a brainfart and that was one
Another fun little fact. After 30 days as my prison cell mate, you would be able to take a dump much easier because your rectal muscles would have been expanded.
I feel like Demolition man could be a prequel to Judge Dredd. 😅
"Someone explain the Shells."
LOL You don't know how to use the shells? XD
The three seashells method was revealed by a writer from the film. You use two shells like tweezers/chopsticks to remove any of the larger bits that might have stuck around or not completely evacuated, then you scrap away the remnants with the third shell...
Seems less sanitary and useful than just a bidet with an air dryer.
Yeah, but it uses less water, paper and is a great decorative addition to the bathroom... XD@@TGrimm
You have to see Stallone's CLIFFHANGER, it's from the same period and it's another good action movie.
Snipes' Simon Phoenix belongs in any discussion of great screen "Jokers" alongside Ledger and Hamill.
Astronauts heading there would do exactly like they do on the
Space station, exercise with resistance bands and treadmills/stationery bikes etc.
53:38 you guys are the only reactors i've seen so far, who remember. The lose his head callback at beginning
Great reaction boys, I should be sleeping but it was worth it. 30 years still nobody knows what the 3 sea shells are!!!
If you like this movie you should watch Virtuosity with Denzel and Russel Crow. Russel plays an AI serial killer come to life. Another great 90s sci-fi action movie.
I love these watch alongs to classic films
If you’ve not seen it, I believe you guys would LOVE True Lies. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis, another unlikely pairing but it’s perfection. It also has Tom Arnold as the best comic relief I’ve ever seen.
They don't know how to use the three seashells. 😂😂😂
In all honesty Demolition Man is one of my all time favourite movies.
between Demolition Man and Idiocracy, they nailed the future perfectly.
on what planet
Wesley snipes reminds me so much of the joker in this movie
Loving all these reactions of these throw-back films that I grew up on. Keep 'em coming, please!!!
