  • As technology advances and information flows at lightning speed, we find ourselves facing an internal struggle to respond instantly. But have you ever wondered if immediate answers are always the key? Stelios Stavrianos will explore the remarkable power of silence in communication. Whether it’s through written words or spoken language, silence has the potential to profoundly transform our interactions. Imagine choosing not to speak, embracing those thoughtful pauses, or even interrupting a conversation to revisit it at a later time. These acts of silence can work wonders in fostering deeper understanding and connection. I completely agree with everything you have said here. It's something we aren't taught. We learn to speak and from then it's so easy to keep filling that void. We're taught silence is awkward and usually fill the gap with a question or comment about something unrelated. I know personally I catch myself making noises to fill that space. I'll do a silly gesture or something to cut the tension. It's completely subconscious but this talk definitely reminded me to be more aware and to lean in to the silence more!

It's so important to use silence in negotiating too, like when offered a job. Great talk!

Silence is such a critical component of negotiation. The golden rule = "He who speak first loses"

It’s like learning to play the piano, practice makes perfect! “Silence gives someone permission to say what they want” love this!! We should all take the time to practice silence in communication and give ourselves the opportunity to really listen to others. Thanks for this Stel!

I have lived in silence for more than half a decade. How much more of it do I need? I hate living like this and find silence to be a form of abuse.

Great take aways in your well executed speech. Silence is like it’s own language. It’s a learned behavior. This is eye opening and impacts many professions and all relationships. ❤

Thank you! Yes, silence is a learned behavior. Some learn it at a young age, some learn it at an older age, and some go their whole lives not realizing the importance of it.

Thanks for your critical feedback. If I may -- was there ever a time in your life when you said something you didn't mean? When you sent an email you regretted? When you felt pressure to respond to someone's text or email? Some people have a perfect balance with their communication, but many do not. I applaud you if you are one of those few
