Because you can use ear protection for other purposes than shooting guns. Such as working with or around machinery or power tools, or concerts like he said. Muffs are best for shooting guns, but plugs are better for everyday activities.
I always have to double up with rubber plugs w/ howard leight!! But the cool thing is the voice amplification still works well even with the extra plugs.
To calculate the true dB protection; (NRR ratting - 7)/2. All ratings are lab ratings with perfect fit on smooth surface, & optimum pressure. Electronic features add nothing to hearing protection from gun shots. If electronic shut out response time is not supper fast, some the gun shot SPL could actually be amplified. Doubling up only adds 5dB to the highest level of protection of the 2 you are wearing. Best method for hearing protection for recreational shooting is to get inner ear without electronics that provide best comfort/fit and double up with electronic muffs for situational awareness with the best cheek well fit and adjust volume based on the degree of situational awareness you need. Protect your ears guys. Quad speakers, USB ports and Bluetooth are all good for home entertainment but you won’t be able to enjoy it if you lose your hearing at the range. Final point: hearing damage can occur from single events over 140dB and longer than 8 hours over 85. Damage is cumulative and happens even if the sound seems ”comfortable”.
I use Peltor 100's with the gel cushions. Switching to the gel made quite a difference since it seals around the ear better. The cushion probably made the difference between the Walkers and Howards.
If you paid less for the Impacts than the Walkers, sounds like you may have got one of the counterfeit models which was very common for a while. You can tell by checking the battery compartment- if there are springs rather than tabs, it's counterfeit. There are some other subtle differences, but that's the easiest one to check. If you go to the Amazon page, there are customer images showing the real vs counterfeit ones.
I have both the Walkers and the Howard Leights and I agree with your findings. I've had the HL's for 3 years now and they work great with long battery life. The Walkers beat them with the padded seal that goes around your ears. It's much thicker and more comfortable, and it seals better around eyewear than the Howard Leights. I also think the Walkers are more comfortable and look better.
The SureFire Sonic Defender version you showed I’m the Amazon screenshot was a solid core, which gives 26 dB of noise blocking. However, the version you tested had the removable hearing plugs and I think two flanges on the hear inserts, which would make them the EP3 with 24 dB of protection. I’ve never tried them, but they do look interesting. Thanks for the review!
Do any of the amplified hearing protectors have sound with direction? Would like to know where the sound is coming from and not just louder. Left, right, front, back....
Chad, I think you nailed it on describing the Impact Sport muffs. They work well and you don’t feel like the noise is damaging, but it certainly feels loud. Like you said, its weird, but it works. Keep up the great content!
Hey there would you say the Sonic defender's are better than foam ear plugs? I currently use foamys at a power plant where I work but was looking for something better.
Nice video. I was actually getting ready to buy my first electronic ear muffs which I was looking at peltor sport Range guard. I like to know can you use rechargeable batteries in these electronic ear muffs thanks
I love my impact sports. But I agree, indoors I have to double up ear protection. Which isn’t so bad. But outside I shoot alone so I keep them closed out and they are sorta loud but it’s manageable for me. Plus I plug my phone into it and play music. That does help a little drown out the shots
Great review Chad. What do u think about the Peltor Tactical 500? I'm looking for ear protection and I do like the electronic amplification to hear people and instructions at the range. I want a good pair. Noise reduction and the electronic amplification are the key for me. Thanks for your input. Keep up the great work.
I've been using the Howard Leight Impact Sport ear pri and they work great for the $! If your not a front line soldier they will be great! Otherwise something else may be a bit better suited!
I'm sure to be the odd man out here. I love the Hyken chair. I bought that chair for all my employees and we all love it. Also, I'm looking into the walker's so thanks for the review
Nah man im right there with you. We have these chairs in our office i i love them. The breathe ability, the height and tilt adjustments are the best. I provide a specialized acupuncture in the ears and these also work great for clients that have to be in a relaxed position for an hour + at a time.
Do the Walker Razor Slim Electronics have to have the batteries to work? I get that the batteries would be needed to be able to hear someone talk, but if you run out of battery power or forgot to swap out to new batteries before going out shooting, would they still reduce the noise of gun fire?
No they don't have to have batteries to function as passive hearing protection, the electronic part dosen't do anything for hearing protection, it's just for situational awareness & communication.
I got the Walker's and no way do they work by themselves for indoor shooting. I couldn't stand the noise around me and had to leave. I'm going to have to find another earpiece to double up with.
Good stuff, liking the new outlook of the channel. Would like to see reviews on higher end from $75+ since tons of options for the casual-ish shooters. Also are those the Oakley slivers?
I recently bought the same pair of Walkers, they are definitely NOT for the range... Ive taken them to the range twice and the sound was still so deafening, I just went back to ear plugs. I haven't shot with them out doors yet but I think that's where they would be better suited, rather than indoors.
From almost everyone I've watched as far as ear protection goes, always double up ear protection for indoor shooting, outdoor one set can do fine, but because the sound is trapped bouncing off surfaces, its always good to use plugs and muffs indoors.
Hmm I'd be interested in trying those walkers out. I like my Howards but like you mentioned they don't do a great job at reducing noise. I also have noticed on my head at least they are too large. On the smallest setting they want to go low on me ears. I usually where a hat because the little button on top pushes it up to the correct hieght. Maybe these will do the trick. How was the head band compared to the howards in length?
For the Tacklife and Pro For Sho they have the same NRR. However the Pros are much thinner. Can you speak as to how they compare to each other as far as noise reduction?
Erik Rodriguez I've had the pro fo sho ear pro for the last year, and almost exclusively shoot inside. Very quiet inside, and they actually don't get in the way of me shooting rifles at all. Would 100% recommend them to anyone looking for a budget set of ear pro.
Another great job. I particularly liked this one, because protecting our hearing AND being able to hear others (eg. range officer) is very important. After your review, I feel a little better justifying going electronic on the muffs. You dah man!
At the range guys will often wear electronic muffs backwards as range commands etc will be coming from behind you. If you were hunting etc then yeah you’d want them pointing forward but makes sense to point the mic’s towards where the sounds you need to hear are coming from
I bought a pair of the Howard's about a year ago off Amazon, and 6 months after purchase I got an email from Amazon saying they may have been knock offs and to discontinue use accompanied by a full refund.
@@Whit-N-E I got the same email and purchased the Impact Pros which are far better than Walkers. They also have a 30NRR rating compared to the Impact Sport's 22NRR and Walker's 23NRR. Too bad Green Light didn't try those. They win against the Walker's hands down.

One critique, for the decibullz, if they don't reduce sound enough, I'd autofail them, why even consider a product that won't work?
Because you can use ear protection for other purposes than shooting guns. Such as working with or around machinery or power tools, or concerts like he said. Muffs are best for shooting guns, but plugs are better for everyday activities.
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj isn't shooting what the video's addressing?
I think he had the wrong tips in . Need the foam tips not the silicone tips
I always have to double up with rubber plugs w/ howard leight!! But the cool thing is the voice amplification still works well even with the extra plugs.
I have the Walkers and they work well but I still double up with Titan Tactical $12 in ear plugs

Thanks for making this video. Didn't find many choices when I searched up this. Fed a lot of useful info too.
Nice. Great video for those of us with families that have to buy multiple sets of hearing protection.
I have a set of Peltor Sport Rangeguard that I really like. They are electronic and $38 on Amazon currently.
Really wish you would have included the 3m Peltors

Great content I used your link thank you for the great data points!

I was planning on getting one of these frames and turning them into ultimate heaphones with noise cancelation!

There are silicon buds for better sleeping one can use that takes out up to 33 dB... e.g. Mack's
You should try the Earmor M31 or M32 if you want comms
Hello, was wondering if you could recommend a pair of ear protection 50 or under for indoor shooting, electric and pink in color. Ty
I got the Walker's and no way do they work by themselves for indoor shooting. I couldn't stand the noise around me and had to leave. I'm going to have to find another earpiece to double up with.

I ended up getting the Walker's from the Amazon link will let you know how range day goes

I agree. The walkers are not meant for indoor range...My ears were ringing
Can you use the in ear ones with the over ear ones for extra protection?
You cant figure that out by yourself?
once again good review and did you have fun on your vacation.
Ya i did looked really fun
The first in ear set is the same style 3m is being sued for only it has a little extra rubber

biggboysouth the walkers are amazing. I have them. So trust this man in what he says and get yourself some walkers man.
FYI: Those decibuls are not rated for shooting, they make an 80$ pair that are, but I have yet to hear anything good about them.

Great information really appreciate it!
Perfect, thank you for the advice, very good review
What kind of jacket is that?
Hey! Did you go to Shot Show this year?
I'm a newbie but would the aux port on the walkers work with coms?
you can use them to use the mower
Where can I find the second electronic headphones? I need to get those for band class.
Granted you were probably out at the range by yourself, but the impact sports were backwards. Great lineup nonetheless.
So were the Walkers
Imagine a pistol reviewer holding the pistol backwards :3

very cool thanks for the great videos man
I wish I had this a month ago. I bought the Howard leight and absolutely cannot shoot with them on even outside.
I bought a pair of the Howard's about a year ago off Amazon, and 6 months after purchase I got an email from Amazon saying they may have been knock offs and to discontinue use accompanied by a full refund.

Who cares what they look like so long as they block the sound!
Who’s ears are worth $50? I’ll spend the extra money
The decibullz would be better for outdoors
What your title says and what you say in your opening monologue is contradictory.
Is it just me or do the decibullz i own fit perfect
Wow, so you didn’t tryout the walker in door...wtf
helpful
1:50 lol 😆
Tacklife are using the SNR system (34 ) , this is not NRR !!
