I got the m&p shield 9mm as my first handgun. I felt more comfortable with a small gun with a safety. It's been a year now, I bought the Glock 19 safetyless. Safety made me feel extra safe as I got used to handling a loaded firearm. Now I'm better prepared to handle a safetyless gun. 👍
SP 101 in .357! Fantastic revolver. Ruger makes a great revolver. The SP 101 was once made in 9mm. Don't know when they quit making it. Almost bought one many years ago at a gun show. Till I pick up the Baby Eagle! Now that's a hand gun! Shawn
How CRAZY!! Before even getting 5 seconds into the video, I told myself “I hope he mentions the S&W M&P 2.0 compact.” A minute and fifty seconds in and that’s the first gun he talks about. I personally have and conceal carry that handgun and wow do I love it!! I bought mine without an external safety in 9mm.
@@goitoutdoors also very similar to a walther ppq. You can swap barrels and they'll fit or even mags. Pretty sure the TP9 was based off of the PPQ lol.
Hey anyone who sees this! Since i did this small favour for all of you, what is your opinion about these 4 guns? Which one of these would you recommend to a beginner? (basically me)
Shout out to the CZ P-07 !!! I just got myself one and I'm absolutely loving it so far. I traded away my 1911 to get it. Single action is very light and smooth. I was just looking for something a little more simple that had a higher mag capacity and I still wanted a hammer fire gun. I very much enjoy the looks and feel of the P-07!
My first handgun, neh, my first firearm ever three weeks ago….A Berreta M9…..A gun I wanted 16 years ago until real life delay the purchase for almost 2 decade. Fired over 450 rds through it already, clean it for the first time……Gave me the first infamous “Berreta 92f/M9 slide pinch” too! But ahhh….I love it! It’s everything I thought it would be and more….Yeah, I also wanted the M9A3 now too….But not yet. Still loving my new M9….It’s a classic and it still rocks!
P-07 is the most underrated handgun out there. What more do you need? Great ergos, accuracy, single action is awesome, and the price makes for a great value!
Just ordered the 2018 od green but what’s with the trigger wall? I’m gonna look into a mod or replacement system that fires at 80% pull over the 95% pull I was experiencing with my buddies 07 other than that it’s a great example of Czechoslovakian design and value
Glad to see the Vp9 made the list. Fantastic grip, great stock trigger, shoots extremely flat. I fall in love with it all over again everytime I take it to the range. I've taught several new shooters with it and they all comment on how easy it is to shoot it well.
I am definitely not a noob to guns, been shooting for around 18 years, but I love watching these vids. I have friends that ask my advice when purchasing a firearm, and these vids help keep my suggestions up to date.
My first handgun was a Sig 239 in 9mm. That gun was a tank. To heavy to carry every day. My 2nd handgun was a XD compact 9mm. Great gun also. Really should gotten XDS 3.3 in 9mm. My favorite gun is now the Lc9s 9mm pro. Great trigger! Finally found the.380 size 9mm. I have been looking for. Just the right size. The weight is awesome. Try the Lc9s 9mm pro out. You will never get rid of it! Shawn
Great list! I honestly didn’t expect the Ruger at the end. I thought it’d be the G19, and was pleasantly surprised to see a wheelgun! Let’s face it, everyone knows the g19 is a great, safe choice. The fact it’s not on the list gives those curious to look into other options some great alternatives. So glad the VP9 and CZ were on the list.
I went with a Ruger SR40 for my first pistol. Its accurate, has a good feel in the hands, and haven’t had a single jam. It not good for edc, but for fun at the range and home protection, it’s pretty damn perfect. Anyone else have one?
Of those you showed, my #1 pick would also be the Ruger. Small, reliable, accommodates 3 ammo types (.38 special, .38 +P, .357), and overall a good gun for learning how to shoot.
I picked up a P-07 a couple years ago, great gun, $460 out the door at the Dixie Gun Show! One thing to point out with this, and probably any other DA/SA platform: After the first 500 rounds and lots of dry fire practice, the double action had smoothed out a great deal, BUT when my mother (retirement age) asked to shoot it, she was unable to squeeze the 10 lb. double action trigger, and had a hard time manually cocking the hammer. For those in the market for a first gun, always try and get your hands on one and test fire it first, but if you have less hand strength due to age, size or ailment a striker-fired G-19 or M&P may need to be higher on your list. My mom immediately went and bought a grip strengthening tool! I think she was a little embarrassed that she couldn't shoot in DA. :-)
Any good quality, reliable, compact-framed pstol chambered in 9 Luger will do a great job as a multipurpose range, carry, and home-defense gun. You neglected to mention that the CZ P-07 includes the parts to allow the owner to change the decocker into a manual safety, thus permitting safe cocked & locked carry and a constant single-action trigger pull on every shot.
Thank you for the knowledge!! I'm completely new to firearms. So I appreciate the view on different options for me to look at for my first handgun!!! You've got yourself a subscriber
Thystaff Thywill yes I'll agree that the lc9 is the better pistol but it sometimes a tad bit more expensive than the security-9. Plus the security-9 just makes for a better range gun.
I'll agree with the security 9. Got it a little while ago, have 2-3000 rounds through it and haven't had a single malfunction. The grip is great for people with smaller hands, while still working for giant man-paws.
My first pistol was a Beretta PX4 Storm, but I bought an HK P30 around 6 or 7 years ago and have carried it daily ever since. The European magazine release on the VP9 is intended to be actuated with your trigger finger. It forces you to take your finger off the trigger and you can hold the pistol on target during the magazine change; no need to alter your grip to reach for the release.
DAMN! That TNT gun range is off the charts, I've never seen such a polished range in my life. No way am I going to visit with all the complicated gun laws in between my state and that state but I wish there were more like that!
Great job, Chad! I love that you had a new set of brands for the 2018 update. Keep it going with helping new shooters on their journey! Can’t wait for the next video!
As an instructor, I advocate searching youtube when looking/researching any firearm. Enter the brand name and model then problems and tap enter. you'll get a list of people who had problems with that piece. Nice video Chad.
Nice video! I’m looking for my first gun, this is the video that I need! I’ll getting the m&p 2.0 on Friday. You won a new subscriber Keep doing this awesome job!
FN Fns and Fnx junkie here love them . The fns is very reasonably priced plus they are offered in several barrel lengths and handle lengths . Fully ambidextrious all models. They are not cheap but they are quality.polymer frame and stainless slides and cold hammer forged barrels.
I'll add, nothing wrong with a Glock but starting off on one could be detrimental later on. The grip angle is different than damn near everything else out there. That means you'd have to adapt to everything else, not adapting to just one firearm. M&P for life yo.
I didn't see it in a quick scroll through the comments, but would like to add that the VP9 "red dot" is more truly a striker indicator, not necessarily designed as a loaded chamber indicator. The chamber could be empty with a cocked striker showing. Great video!
I got my Kahr CW9 for $265 before taxes at my local hunting store and it is awesome light weight easy to conceal and as a first handgun I would recommend it highly with its long trigger pull and not to mention I took my CCW class with it 78 out of 80 rounds hit right on target love that little handgun carry it everywhere
As an instructor, I advocate that fit in the hand is the most important consideration when choosing a pistol. For me, the S&W M&P line fits my hand the best, but that's me. I also advocate buying American made pistols and rifles.
Well, my $.02 here. I looked and tried many manufacturers at the direction of gun shop employees, I decided for the Glock for all the obvious and well known reasons. Love the platform. Shooting each of the 3 I own and maintain is seamless. No guessing. Works for me. Others have different wants, desires and information to choose from. Their choice will be made on those parameters. Glock, to ME was the obvious choice. Good luck to the soon to be new gun owners. Be informed.
Chad---good choices, I have had my VP9 for over 3yrs, never any problem, it is my favorite handgun, I have seen them for about 535.00 with regular sights, good job
Did HK pay the California extortion fee to have the vp9 on the "Safe Handgun Roster"? I heard manufacturers have to pay 100K for each model of gun, which excludes identical models with different color finishes. So basically if HK wanted a black vp9, an OD green vp9, a black vp9sk, and a tan vp9sk, they would have to fork over 400K AND comply with the ridiculous microstamp. Is this correct?
My first handgun was the HK vp40. I got it as the law enforcement package that came with 313 round magazines and glow sights. Reason why I started off with a 40 Smith & Wesson is I am a bigger guy. I stand at 6 foot 7 280 lb and I'm built like a brick wall. I found that I'm a bit more comfortable with a 40 than I am a 9. Amazing gun I would recommend it a thousand times over
The first gun I practiced with a Ruger. Then a S and W 642 .38 P P. The a Sig 239 in 9mm. Then A XDS compact in 9mm. Then a Ruger Lc9s 9mm pro. I will keep the Ruger. Shawn
P-07 is the best “first pistol” and just a great gun for everyone. The da/sa is a great compromise between safe and ready to go. I only have safeties on guns that absolutely need them like 1911. I put talon grips and cajunized it just for funzies as the stock trigger isn’t bad at all.
I'm digging the Steyr m9-a1 right now. (In my hands) it feels more natural than any other pistol. Still love my 1911 and Glock. But it's what ever the individual is comfortable with. It's all personal preference
I got the 2.0 in 40 great gun I must say. Wanted a Glock 19 in 40 S&W but not in a Glock. S&W took care of that problem with the 2.0 compact. Got the H&K VPs they are great but H&K is my favorite so anyway I like your lineup. And you are right about the safety in the Glock trigger I have never like that about Glocks. As for sights I like the HDs will be getting some for the 2.0 also.
Enjoy my Ruger Revolver GP100. Model number 1715. Three inch barrel. 357 Magnum. Don't mind reloading it at all. Take my time and appreciate going old school.
I learned pistol marksmanship on a beat up old S&W Model 41 belonging to an older cousin. Obviously a very specific use in mind and not entry level pricing either. There are more affordable target pistols along those lines. Agree that 9mm is a good choice for a work horse pistol, relatively cheap ammo so you can get a lot of practice. My current piece in this category is a CZ P10c which I have no complaints, very good trigger and ergonomic for an average size male hand. I have a sister who is new to handguns and she hates my CZ, bought herself a Bersa Thunder .380 for our trips to the hills. It's a nice little value priced piece, little felt recoil and she can afford the ammo to get well practiced on it. I like it too, surprisingly accurate at short range and easy to stay on target, really a good value for a first gun. If you decide you like the platform you can always upgrade to the Walther PPK it's based off. I haven't had the opportunity to try out any of the Ruger pistols but they have a good reputation, I wouldn't discount them as an affordable starting point for prospective shooters. Sig P-320 might be something to look at if you are pretty sure you will stick with it and don't have a variety already. The interchangeable chassis allows you to purchase multiple frames and barrels (9mm & .40) rather than additional pistols. Not for me but maybe makes sense for someone else.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is you should be proficient with a handgun before you think about carrying one. You should have confidence in the gun and your ability to operate it. Don't get too caught up in brands, there are a range of options for every shooter and purpose. The video included some fine choices.
The Taurus PT111 is my first 9mm handgun. It has been 100% reliable with every type of ammo that I have used (mostly cheap ammo). I recommend it for the price range. I only have two minor complaints. 1. The trigger pull is long. So it takes some practice to get comfortable with it. 2. The grip texture is too aggressive if it contacts your skin while in a holster.
Glad to see the P-07 on this list. In my opinion its highly underrated for what you get for the price. Ive seen them as low as $425 which is a steal. I love my urban grey model.
ron l I’m surprised to see the Beretta on your list. A lot of guys really don’t like it, and I was one of those guys for a while. It’s definitely grown on me recently though.
VastSpartan Why would something that's heavy on your body be considered an asset? Plus the Beretta is huge with a really thick grip. For home defense or OWB carry I think it's an excellent gun but I damn sure wouldn't want to CC one.
Interesting choices. I think I'd prefer the CZ out of your choices. A .40 shield was my first carry gun. Finish on the feed ramp kept it from feeding right. After polishing, it runs great. If you're like me though, the shield can still be quite large to conceal with women's casual wear. I bought a kimber micro 9 to address this. Over 1000 rounds with no jams.
I prefer the P30 and P2000 (LEM or DA/SA) to a striker VP9 but I rented a VP9 and sure liked it more than my Glock 19! Highly recommended. Got my fiance a Smith and WEsson M&P Shield Performance Center which I like a lot more than the M&Pc, the single stack feels fantastic. Which lead me to getting another 1911 for myself (SIG Scorpion, decked out by the previous owner too, works perfect and got it for nearly $500 less than regular sell price). Really can't go wrong with any firearm on this list. The Glock 19 doens't belong everywhere, lol. Hell if I had it my way the HK P2000 would be getting a lot more love, vastly overlooked pistol (in spite being widely used by Homeland and Border Patrol)
Hk P2000 and P2000sk are very popular in California. Probably the only state in the USA that gives it so much respect (granted they don't have many options). The only downside is that they're getting more and more difficult to find these days now that it's an older pistol (there used to be plenty during the Counter Strike days)
You must mention that a revolver should not be carried with a round in the chamber under the hammer, since there is not firing pin safety so the gun could accidentally go off if the hammer is impacted. The solution is to carry with just four rounds, and the chamber behind the hammer is empty, but that leaves you with just four shots, although the six shooter revolver is comparatively larger. Otherwise, great vid of some great guns.
Rundown:
Smith & Wesson M&P 9 Compact 2.0
CZ P07
H&K VP9
Ruger SP 101
Thx lol 😝
thanks saved me wasting time watching the vid
I'm watching this and what I hear in my head is Bill Burr: "You need a shotgun... got a good spread..."
IT'S GOT BETTER SPREAD!!!
Hahahahahaha What a brilliant stand up!
😅 😅
conghelach
He’s a stand up comedian... it’s a joke.
When I hear “15 rounds” my California heart cries a little
I hear 19, 20 rounds...and i just imagine how beautiful it must be....
I know the pain... I know the pain... 😩
NJ too😭
Yeah, 33 is SOOOOOOOOOOO much better, Amen!!
At least you won't get a sore thumb from loading 20 rounds in each of the super stiff Springfield mags that came with my new XDM Elite like I did.
You’re way more charismatic than most gun channel knowitalls who come off so pompous. Love your vids

SP 101 in .357! Fantastic revolver. Ruger makes a great revolver. The SP 101 was once made in 9mm. Don't know when they quit making it. Almost bought one many years ago at a gun show. Till I pick up the Baby Eagle! Now that's a hand gun! Shawn
My first handgun was full size, steel frame baby desert eagle 40. Its awesome, shoots really well and fits in the hand perfectly
Did you ever find a holster ?
My first hand gun was the Canik TP9 SA, and after over 10,000 rounds it’s still running strong even though I don’t shoot it much anymore.
I've heard amazing things and that it's similar to the CZ.
@@goitoutdoors also very similar to a walther ppq. You can swap barrels and they'll fit or even mags. Pretty sure the TP9 was based off of the PPQ lol.
I just bought my M&P 2.0 Compact for $386. Had Academy reluctantly price match Georgia gun store. Great value. Save money where you can.
x.adam1 . . . Dang, that's a great price.
Bobby's? I got mine from them. Lol
Bought the new one with ported barrel for $435.00 at Academy, waited a year for their sale.
Orrrrrr instead of haggling with big retailers to save a few bucks your could always support your local small shops.
x.adam1 . . . M and p with some trigger work makes it a dream to shoot.
The guns mentioned in this video:
1. Smith & Wesson M&P Compact 2.0 - 1:45
2. CZ P-07 - 6:09
3. Heckler & Koch VP9 - 9:09
4. Ruger SP-101 .357 Magnum (also .38 special) - 14:07
You saved my life LMFAO
Hey anyone who sees this! Since i did this small favour for all of you, what is your opinion about these 4 guns? Which one of these would you recommend to a beginner? (basically me)
Awesome, I’ve been looking at the MP 2.0 compact 3.6”. Glad it was mentioned
My first was a subcompact walther ppq. Best stock trigger, and amazing gun. All rounder. Now I have a 1911 for range fun, an a m&p shield for CC.
Shout out to the CZ P-07 !!! I just got myself one and I'm absolutely loving it so far. I traded away my 1911 to get it. Single action is very light and smooth. Tom S. Love my p07. I'm carrying the P-10c daily right now and I really like it.

P-07 is the most underrated handgun out there. What more do you need? Great ergos, accuracy, single action is awesome, and the price makes for a great value!

Ok. As a Californian, I think that XD9 compact might be an option for me.
Like your channel my 1st gun is GLOCK 21 , 45 ACP 13 rounds ,Gen3 , and comes with 3 mag, keep up the good work from Tacoma, Washington
Good to see a SA/DA in the mix..

Even though the G19 is my favorite and EDC. I do like the CZ and S&W MP2.0. I think HK is too bulky for me but they do make good guns

Would also recommend the Ruger security-9. Can't beat the price for an awesome pistol.

Wheres the Springfield XD love. Love my XD9 mod 2 4”. Picking up FN FNS-9c in fde in next week or so cant wait.
I didn't see it in a quick scroll through the comments, but would like to add that the VP9 "red dot" is more truly a striker indicator, not necessarily designed as a loaded chamber indicator. The chamber could be empty with a cocked striker showing.
Great video!
My first hand guns Springfield mod 2 9mm G43 and Ruger security 9
My first handgun around 15 uears ago was Taurus PT 24/7 pro in .40. Ive come so far since then. Now, Gen 3 g19 with rmr in an appendix holster.
time for that 2019 edition!
Good choices. My first was a Beretta PX4 Compact 9mm. I highly recommend it.

Another one that is not a bad all around carry gun is the Ruger LC9s.
Man, People over look the Lc9s 9mm pro. It's the best CCW weapon. I will never buy another CCW weapon. Best trigger. 4.8 pds. American made. Shawn

I'm considering the 226 extreme as my first gun. It feels great! And I've heard they are reliable.
@@jayphive2468 brother all Sigs are reliable! 👍🏾
Mine was an H&K USP 9mm bought in 1994.
I must agree h&k is very nice conceal carry gun. The sights and grip are comfortable. When concealing gun, it's like not having it on your person
When will gun manufacturers finally develop blasters. I want that to be my first firearm 😝
I know you carry a Glock, but the fact you DIDNT mention it on this list has earned you a subscriber my friend.
Chad---good choices, I have had my VP9 for over 3yrs, never any problem, it is my favorite handgun, I have seen them for about 535.00 with regular sights, good job
russ elder $1,000 for those here in california... stupid micro stamp law
sorry to hear that
russ elder yea stupid laws that they are passing... when have criminals ever followed the law...
Rather have a Walther ppq m2
My first handgun was the HK vp40. I got it as the law enforcement package that came with 313 round magazines and glow sights. Reason why I started off with a 40 Smith & Wesson is I am a bigger guy. I stand at 6 foot 7 280 lb and I'm built like a brick wall. I found that I'm a bit more comfortable with a 40 than I am a 9. Amazing gun I would recommend it a thousand times over
HK VP9 is a great handgun!!!
Ruger P89. Your great-great grand kids will thank you.
the CZ is a great firearm.
I got a p10 C and I love it... Plus I got several p10 F 17 round clips as well
Good choices. That H&K looks great. I'm pretty fond of the Walther PPQ series.
My first was a Ruger Mark 1....when .i was 12 in 1966
awesome.
Would you recommend it over the CZ P10c for a first time gun owner?
thats a great explaination of the cz p o7 great job
John Linton. A Glock 23 is what your looking for. 19 sized frame chambered in .40
A .40 cal glock 19 lol
Enjoy my Ruger Revolver GP100. Model number 1715. Three inch barrel. 357 Magnum. Don't mind reloading it at all. Take my time and appreciate going old school.
Great video, for my first handgun I think I will go with the M&P 2.0
Did you buy? Im buying a handgun Friday. I'm split between Glock 19 gen 5 and the m and p 9m 2.0 full sjze
@@vallejopnw what did you choose?
Top 5 for budget minded:
5. S&W SD9VE ($300-$400)
4. Ruger Security 9 ($300-$350)
3. Ruger 9E ($350)
2. Glock 22 40s&w LEO trade-in ($300)
1. Taurus PT111 ($200)
Dude yes! I just bought a G2C and it's my first handgun and it's great.
Sd9ve my first handgun. Been awesome fired so many rounds haven’t had any problems with it.
Blaine Robbins i just bought mine today out the door for $220
Sd9ve and security 9 were my first 2 in that order. Love them both never had a problem with them
Sp101. My favorite handgun.
Just got my first handgun as the M&P9 2.0
You did good
Glad to see the P-07 on this list. In my opinion its highly underrated for what you get for the price. Ive seen them as low as $425 which is a steal. I love my urban grey model.
I’m Canadian so I want a good target pistol only... we can’t use them for home defence or carry.. we are only aloud to go from home to range..
Wait so if someone is trying to murder you, it’s illegal to fight back with your gun?
Just come to America we would be honored to have you
Glad to see you're still around. RKBA.
1. Sig P229
2. Beretta M9A1
3. HK P2000
4. Glock 19
ron l I’m surprised to see the Beretta on your list. A lot of guys really don’t like it, and I was one of those guys for a while. It’s definitely grown on me recently though.
Who would want to lug around those heavy ass guns, *especially* as a first time buyer for a carry gun??
@@Procraseighter Someone who enjoys weight?
Chad, I absolutely respect all of your gun choices. Your presentation was flawless.. amazing speaker. Quick on the draw. Liked and subscribed!
Popped my cherry on a Bersa Thunder 380 back when they were 140.00 at Academy. First true love will always the PPQ
My first gun was a Springfield xdm. I have a G19 but my everyday carry is my P320 with night sights
The first three guns were the exact ones I looked at when purchasing my first gun a year ago. I ended up with a glock 19 and couldn’t be happier.
Nice video, but I would add the Ruger Security 9! You can't beat it for the quality & cost!
. The best of .of. oasis
Glad to see S&W got rid of the trigger disengage step requiring the pin in then grip in order to break down the weapon!!!
How could you not mention the .357 Cafe inside of TNT?? The post-range burger and fries is the best part!
My wife loved my #GiveRise hoodie so much I had to order one for her! Great work as always Chad.
Thank you for including the Ruger SP101. Too many people are hung up on a “gun like I see in movies” mentality it’s sad
