Mayak Eggs. Daniel tries out a recipe that is blowing up on Korean social media sites recently. It's called Mayak Eggs. (Mayak means 'drugs' in Korean). It's basically super-addictive soy sauce eggs! I wanted to test it out for you guys and see if its worth making it.
The verdict is in... (thumbs up)

Hey Neighbors! We just finished eating our batch. You will notice that you have some soy sauce leftover. You can re-use it for a second batch: simply bring the soy sauce up to boil and let it gently simmer for 1-2 minutes. Then let it cool down. And then add in another batch of eggs. Or you can you boil and save it as a dipping sauce for pan-fried tofu, Korean pancakes, dumplings, etc. 👍
Future Neighbor sweet! I didn’t read this comment on time and end up dumped it out. I made it and it is one of my husband favorite. I made it a bit harder (7 minutes instead of 6) and also boiled the soy sauce with water and season to make sure it is all mix together and wait for it to cool down and use it. For anyone have question about does it get rubbery after 2 days? My answer is no lol I have it for about a week and it still good. U can tell it is more marinated flavor for sure though.
Love ur voice ❤
I just made Mayak eggs for the first time and was wondering if I could re-use the leftover sauce - this is a helpful tip, as I definitely wouldn’t have boiled the sauce 😛
Daniel,
Love your presentation but I’m in love but Katie....she is definitely egg-cellent!
daniel , it might be too late to ask you this but will i die if i reuse the soy sauce without boiling it??
Every time I hear that alarm I wanna cry. It’s my morning alarm, I’m conditioned to cry when I hear that. Haha.
Hahaha. I think its Apple's default one... I get a visceral reaction to it too! 🤣
SAME
hahaha
I've always been jealous of morning people. I used to be a morning person when i was a kid but lost that ability a looooong time ago, and now I just want to cry when i hear my alarm. Luckily my work is pretty understanding about it so they let me show up a bit late as long as I work a bit late too (I actually work over 40 hours a week every week but only clock in for 40, which is why they dont mind) and nobodies fired me for being kind of a jerk when I walk in first thing in the morning and the morning people want to talk to me.
Your phone alarm is the exact one I use to get up in the morning and when your egg alarm went off my heart almost jumped out of my chest. I think I’ve conditioned myself from being late and panicking every morning XD
That burst of anxiety thinking you overslept 😅
dude hell yeah
Youve been Pavloved lol
I love how the ingredients can be found just around the kitchen. Since I don't have honey, I can use sugar as well. Thanks future neighbor! 💚
"If you have a anger management issues, might be a problem " lol !!!! Yall are too funny together. I really don't care what yall cook. I just love the entertainment yall come up with. Keep them coming !
I mean, this seems perfect to me. I love eggs, I love onions, garlic, chili... mm. Do want.
Oh! Also! I tap the eggs like you do, but I add baking soda to the water instead of vinegar. I’ve tried vinegar, but to me baking soda works better!
First time tapping the eggs, worked like a charm. But didnt know about the baking soda. Gotta try next time.
what the baking soda gonna do to the egg?
change the PH balance of the water, same as the vinegar.
@@angelusnielson7135 and what does that do? Does it make the peeling easier? Does it help to keep the yolks in the center during cooking?
I just made this last night and it is amazing. Thank you!! you really have a flare for making your tutorials easy to follow.

Hey guys, love the recipe! Tried it at home so tasty. Question, can I reuse the soy sauce mixture or should I make fresh every time? Like how long can I keep sauce?
I made this today for my breakfast and dear lord me and my dad loved them so much !! ❤️
can't wait to make this this weekend!
You guys are so funny. I'll try this recipe, I'm from Brazil and I love your channel, but never tried anything because is really difficult to find some ingredients where I live. But this one is so eaaasy!!!
Thanks, guys!!
Wow.. looks yumm and simple..will try
That looks so good!
Perfection indeed.
Katie is so funny - I don’t believe in the rolling technique 😂 so cute!
People find the most random things cute. :-P
Also, my top tip for getting the shell off is just getting them into ice water as soon as they're done boiling, then crack the shell all over and dip it back in the water. Getting water under the membrane helps it come away really easily! Re-dip into water as necessary or even peel them under water entirely. Plus, cooling them really fast prevents that nasty grey ring around the yolk if you're really hardboiling!
I pierce the base of each egg with a small needle, then I cool the eggs in cold waters with ice cubes. I let it cool until it is at least room temperature, or slightly cool. Finally after cracking the base of the eggs and removing the shell, I use a small spoon along the contour of the egg to remove the shell.
Cookat Korea just uploaded their foodporn-music video for this! Future Neighbour settin' trends!!!... I love getting the notifications for your videos. :)
Omg must try this!
I loved your recipes so im gonna make this
Oh Walter! This looks criminally good!
If you HB your eggs in a pressure cooker - 5/5/5 - less for soft boiled like yours are here, they peel instantly. Regular pressure cooker- do not need anything fancy or digital. Bring to pressure for five minutes, then let it sit as it releases for five minutes, then put in ice bath for five minutes. They practically jump out of their shells! And as for the recipe- OMG- YES! These are fantastic! I make them often - my son just inhales them lol- I had no idea re the "drug" aspect- lol- I guess inhales is an apt description then!
Amaranthim Talon Agreed, I absolutely love pressure cooker eggs, and the 5/5/5 method works for me every time. Gonna give these a go today.
Cool good to know. Saved it in my notes. Will have to give it a shot "5/5/5"
Low pressure 3 to 4 minutes for soft boiled
Yummmmm! Now that is my kind of breakfast! I can use hot/warm rice with the eggs right? Can't wait to try this.😁
okay, but for some reason at the end when you were like "bonjour!" and she was like "it's not 'bonjour'". idk why but i found that so hilariously adorable lool
I will definitely try this 😋😊
muy bueno ! lo voy a preparar!
By the way I was out of green onions, so I substituted a yellow onion for green onions, and still worked! 😁
Thank you for the great tip to boil eggs. 👍
Yummmmmm ❤️👌cooked to perfection just look at that yolk so orange and smoooooth
We have this meal too in Indonesia. Actually a meal that required egg, chicken, or even tofu drenched or marinated in soy sauce.
.
But Indonesian common soy sauce is sweet. So we don't need sugar to make it, sometimes we add salt to it. The ingredients almost the same, soy sauce, onion and garlic, green onion, stir on the pan. Put in sweet soy sauce, and put in eggs, chicken, tofu, anything.
.
We use sweet soy sauce like korean use gochujang, so it's very common.
I absolutely ❤ this dish 😋
Hello love your videos! Was wondering where do you get that pot? I would love to get one of those. 😍
These were sooo good, they are also good over mixed greens for those who are cutting back on carbs haha 😆
Then ur channel wud be "mayak" for me cos i cant get enough of your videos!! 😂 Keep it up 😁😁😁
Thanks Arief!
Im just currious do they know what is "mayak" in our area arief?
Thats really mayak egg, love it
i love your videos. keep it
Hi guys!! Loved the video!! I have a question, though. Is it possible to reuse the sauce with another batch of boiled eggs or should we make a new one every single time?
You can reuse it if you’re making a new one in a short period of time, if not I recommend you to use new soya sauce instead
Can't wait to try this out! I'm wondering though how many days is okay to leave the eggs in the mixture? Because i think this is a good meal to prepare in advance for busy mornings when i can't cook.
Hnnngh. OMG this looks SO good. I know what I'm making for a quick make ahead breakfast. What other banchan would you recommend to go with this?
Good evening from Spore, jus to check beside putting Mayak eggs... For the sauce what can I make use of ? Tks for sharing the recipe jus finish making the sauce and it really taste good .
“Look I’m better” 😂 I love her omg
Just made these....they were delicious! Didn't last long at all, now to make a bigger batch. 🌶️👍
it's 12:03am here where i am, and i am so tempted to get out of bed to make this!!!!
I'm so about to use your recipe for a mukbang challenge I'll be doing soon!!!
This looks great. Im wondering if this over grits would be good too. I may try grits
I used half a Serrano and a whole Thai red chili. Needless to say it had some heat. But I still loved it!
I like your laid back but informative style ✌🏻I wish I would have seen this and Seongyunguest (definitely not how you spell this), before I made my batch, because it had me boil the sauce & now I’m confused lol.
I made this but I didn't have spring onions but I tryed with chile garlic and soy sauce and water it was so good!!
Awesome - we LOVE your videos! I was literally JUST making a batch of Gyeran Jangjorim when I saw this... Mayak eggs are basically G-J, but with wonderful sesame seeds & the yolks aren't hard cooked, right? (SORRY IF STUPID QUESTION!) I went and opened the jar, added the sesame seeds, and tomorrow we shall be enjoying these watching baseball!!! Thank you!
Yum!
Fun fact - In Russian, маяк (mayak) means “lighthouse” :)
idc
lol
Love the video ! Is it possible to substitute brown sugar instead of white ?
katie reminds me of bmo from adventure time and i love it so much
dude hell yeah
I always put about a teaspoon of white vinegar in when cooking hard-boiled eggs. I think it makes it easier to peel.
everytime I'm hungry and sad I watch you videos and I laugh so hard
Making these ASAP.
😊 THANK .... you 😘....FUTURE NEIGHBOR FOR SHARING 🥰.
Thanks for the amazing recipe. Where do you live where you have to boil your tap water?
Great video. How long can you put the eggs in the fridge? Only a few days or a week?
Oooh I'm gonna try. Just wondering how many times can you reuse the left over sauce? Like once u finish all the eggs can I make more eggs and just put into the leftover sauce? 😁
I usually have chicken bulgogi when I go to Korean restaurants and they serve mini side dishes. Can you please do a video on preparing the side dishes? I especially love the potato side dish!!
I need to try this🍳egg recipe.. tq for the recipe & video..👍
Awesome that's something new to me :d thanks!
Look delicious
I'm going to try the egg trick
I'll try to do it, I'm sure my family will like it😋
will make this tonight. i'm not sure if you did already but please make 강된장 recipe and like 반찬 to go with it. Thank you ^^,
Yummmmm!!!!!
Made these and can’t get enough
Daniel, is that dark or light soy sauce? Or could I mix the two as well? Tnx and love from India
Hi! Could I use a thumb track or push pin vs cracking the bottom of the egg prior to boiling it? I'm not good with the tapping, I'll break them for sure
Does anyone know the name of the red chili pepper? The one that has no heat ……( I can’t do spicy but I love the color in the sauce )
Thanks 😊
Thanks for sharing. How long can these eggs be kept for?
Hey Daniel do the 6 minutes for the eggs start once you turn on the stove or when the water starts boiling?
what a great recipe! thanks for sharing. would we be able to reuse the marinade for more eggs?
Absolutely! Chop in a few more fresh spring onions too :)
I’m a little concern about how much sugar is used. How bad would it be if I reduced it?
this looks great! how long can a batch be stored in the fridge?
So a question, can you resend the sauce, and if you can, about how long would it be good for?
I missed it if it was mentioned but were the eggs at room temp when you used them?
officially in love with Katy. she's so adorable.
Hey D and K! That sauce sort of looks like a diluted PAH-JAHNG, right? I am going to try this recipe today when I fix dinner for my mother! Much love from the great PNW!!!
Yea! It does~ Well I hope your mother enjoyed them 🙌
I made this and finish the 4th egg but wondering how long can we store this? I finished mine on the 4th day
How long do they keep in the fridge for? 😀
what if u poked little holes in the eggs before with like a toothpick would that make the sauce penetrate more
