10:51 from my experience it is far better to place the pikes in the middle, when you have a path on the side on the side of the mounatin like in this case (so one square further to the left) that way all the pikes face directly onto the path but also straight down and often knock enemies from the cliffs directly onto the ground, instead of just knocking them further back onto the pathway (I think this deals increased damage) It`s like pikes stabbing you from the side and you have no chance of getting past :D for me this was always far safer than just placing them at the end of the way up, no enemy really gets past that
Something that might help; you can split a squad of infantry by sitting them behind a house or rock, then moving to the opposite square on the other side. Half will go around the left side, half will go around the right, which will let you surround a group of enemies with only one squad. It makes a big difference and can save you a lot of casualties in the longer levels over just running at them head on, especially with the shield guys.
@@morenorristhannorris thank you for this. I usually do that when hiding from the brute archers and then jumping them. Now I want to try it against other units
The decision to make the Jabena commander Infantry was correct; it would have been a mistake to make Arthur a pike. Pikes are vulnerable to ranged attacks and to being surrounded which makes them bad choices as sole defenders except in very limited circumstances. A major problem is that enemies come from multiple directions and pikes are not effective if they have to move; so they either get surrounded or they allow some houses to be destroyed while they are defending other positions. The only reliable way for a pike to defend an island is if there is a single ramp separating all of the houses from the beach landing zones. Eilun and Sanday in the current game are examples. At 16:20, it was possible to set up Celdar to defend Sanday on the following turn, but that was not known at the time: 1. Send two units to defend Rock; Send the remaining two units to Darkrock; End of turn hides Weltog. 2. Send Arthur and Henrietta to Bjornholm; Send Celdar alone to Sanday; Arthur would then have been alone, but he could have teamed up with the Heavy Weapon commander on Knivur; End or turn hides Mollan and Sanday. At this point you could have gone back and defended Langholm and Summer Isle. Unfortunately, Knivur was not revealed until you had already won Summer Isle, by which point it was too late. i think your current game is going well and the decisions you made are appropriate for the information you had available. It is annoying to have to waste Arthur on an island where he is not really needed, but the variant you are playing isn't forgiving. Better to have redundant than insufficient defenses. You are very fortunate to have the Heavy Weapons and Ring of Command this early in the game. Make that an archer and promote to Elite as soon as possible and that will be a devasting unit.
No I'd have to disagree on the pike thing, is was a mistake to put the jabena on infantry, pike jabena is far more useful early game. I don't really get how you mean that pikemen are bad defenders on their own, yes its risky but infantry without any items or skills are far worse, they will often take damage no matter what and you'll have to replenish them sooner or later, which is dangerous when you are alone. Yes single pikemen are often only viable on a specific type of island, but I find that you get a lot of islands with only one way up in the early game. Even islands with two ways up are sometimes possible to defend with a pike but that's very tricky without skills Point is you are right with these limited circumstances you are talking about, but from my experience a lot of islands check these boxes early game. But the circumstances where you can use an infantry squad only are VERY limited imo
Also quick tip, if you hold space bar it'll slow down time just like when you're selecting your commanders, it's really useful to reposition your troops in a small time frame. Also if its hard to find one of your commanders you can switch between em by using q and e to switch from top to bottom (e going down and q going up i believe) That should be all and please use these tactics they really help you out man!
It’d be cool if there were enemy units with a cloak so you don’t know what they are and there’s an item that identifies them or an item that lets you see further on the map so you know which units and the landscapes 2 islands ahead
"Few people died, sorry about that."
Pikemen dominate on hill top with single narrow way up. Even a level 1 squad of pikemen can hold against a large group of shield dudes
i want a Bad North 2. Appreciate your content and commentary

Thanks! That's very good advice - I will make sure I have a good go at this!
Can we give advices?

Thanks, I've never thought of doing this but it sounds like something to try out!!
@@roguebrothers I hope it helps and I'm looking forward to the new series!

Whiskey-trot sweet-trot! Another Bad North series! Awesome video, my friend.
I actually love the series .. taught me a lot...
Basically grinding the plat on PS5
Based off of your previous series, this challenge doesn’t seem that far out of reach. Can’t wait for more

Maybe something for Bad North 2?
well this is gonna be quite a challenge
i wish for the algorithm to bless you brother
Thanks mate! We actually quite enjoy our niche fanbase - they are funny, supportive and informative!
You can have 2 pikemen squads and go withou archer for a long time. Pikemen can single-handedly hold many easy islands at the start.
This can be true unless you come up against alot of archers.
How do you have a trait and item in the start?
You can unlock them on the campaign map
@ Thanks ❤️
How do you voice crack so much
Damn your voice changed a lot in comparison with your videos from 2 years ago
I think I just got a better mic!
