@@davidcochran6291 , no need to apologize. Music is subjective. It should also make us FEEL something. The original 6 did that well. ABB was pretty cutting edge in the late 60s. gato ryak I think Muddy Waters and BB King just to name a few...You can't not hear that soulful blues in some of their music... My favorite by them is Soulshine❤️
@@swampmagiclouisiana1490 I see. I definitely hear a heavy blues influence in ABB's music, especially during Duane's era. But ABB sounds urban blues- and jazz-influenced rather than country-blues. I don't consider the music of Muddy and BB to be Delta Blues. However, they both did grow up in the Delta region.
It's important to remember that the Allman Brothers were integrated. It seems totally unremarkable now that the bluesy band had a black drummer, Jai Johnny Johnson, better known as "Jaimoe." But that was enough for some clubs in the late 60s and early 70s, when the Allman Brothers were growing, to ban the band. At the very least they often had to call in advance and let venues know that they had a black man with them. Because the Allmans were such a tight-knit band, Jaimoe wasn't just a bandmate but one of the brothers, playing on and off with them for more than 40 years. "I think the Allman Brothers having a black guy in that group was a real eye opener at that time," recalled Charlie Daniels, the musician. As one band manager said of the hippie-looking band, "The long hair was enough to start shit in most places...but Jaimoe, that was the spark to the gasoline."
@@tommypwood672 It was indeed a big deal in the south in the 60's. Maybe not the west coast where Hendrix and Sly were, but Macon Georgia? Shout out to the first integrated band in the south though should go to Booker T and the MG's out of Memphis.

3 huge songs today. What a band! Open that mind brother. You've been exposing yourself to the best of the best rock music has to offer. I love to see the smile. Greg sings with as much passion as anyone. You can feel his hearts pain.
Loads of GREAT bands from this era, but for my money, The Dead and The (original lineup) Allman Brothers Band were my faves. Lots of tragedies throughout history, and none more heartbreaking than those that occurred in the 20th century, the wars, the genocides, etc., but I've always maintained, at least since late October of 1971, that the loss of Duane Allman is one of the truly underrated and awful tragedies to happen to the creative communities of the 20th century. Lots of great musicians and artists who've really moved the "needle," but my goodness, nobody ever expressed themselves so deliciously and heartbreakingly as brother Duane. The man was a guitar playing tornado but w/the taste and feel of an ancient master. The Allman Brothers Band was just a flat out stupendous band. Where would they have taken us had Duane & Berry been given the gift of longevity?
This very song helped me a great deal in the mid to late 90s. Helped to easy the losses of the Storm. Since that time the losses have continued. This song has been a staple in my life. My father who passed a few weeks ago showed me the blues. I introduced my dad to the brothers. My best friend died six months ago we attended many ABB shows. I have my memories. Keep doing ABB tunes when you can? Love what your doing.

Greg said to "Testify" Get on your knees and thank God for creating The Allman Brothers! I grew up in Sandy Springs, GA . i was in 9th grade when I first heard The Allman Brothers. One summer, they set up a long haul trailer in Piedmont Park in Downtown Atlanta, without city approval and had a concrete to beat all concerts. Hey Jamal mama is this the greatest band you've ever heard? You were right about us banging our heads back in the early seventies with this band. I'm thrilled that you like them
There was an optimism in the air about the issue of race in the 70s. We had made it through the upheavals of the 60s. We had lost Dr King and RFK and our hearts had broken but we all believed that finally we were now on the right track and heading in a good direction. I so hope that we can get back to that together and find our way again. Music may just be the path. You are onto something Jemal. Keep it up.

One of, if not the greatest Rythym and Blues bands of the last half century. The perfect mix of musical talent interwoven with deep southern roots.
Fun fact...Gregg was only 24 when this was recorded. Yes, that voice at age 24. Listen to the music and you can hear the influences all the way back to Robert Johnson. This song always stirs my soul. Another brilliant song choice Jamal.
Elcee Nomoun he was actually 20. He was only 22 when Duane died
Actually he was only 19 when this was recorded. Duane was 24 when he passed and maybe you have those to ages turned around.
@@davidcochran6291, you are correct sir. Awesome music makes me lose my mind a little bit. To me, this song is just perfect.
@@elceenomoun8115 I've been listening to this band for fifty years. Mostly the music of the original 6 and the their latest incarnation from 2004 til now. In between they seemed to lose their vision. I love Dickey Betts, but without Duane he lost his direction that Duane was taking them, and his country influences did not lead the band well. My opinion, my opinion, their music was good it just wasn't going in the direction it had been going.Sorry I ramble a bit. It's what we old people do when most of it is behind you. It's too bad there is no more band but we have Derek and Warren to carry us forward.
@@davidcochran6291 , no need to apologize. Music is subjective. It should also make us FEEL something. The original 6 did that well. ABB was pretty cutting edge in the late 60s. I'm old too...I remember the original sound, and the tragedies that followed. Gregg spent a lifetime figuring out his path. Some of his later works took him back to his roots. Here's another one of my favorite songs...ruclips.net/video/vUcF_vln2aA/видео.html . Visit Macon if you get the chance. The house where they lived communally is a great museum. The town is full of landmarks, Capricorn Studios is open for tours, and the grave plot was reworked to accommodate the full original 6. It's a great day trip. I'm a little partial, but I believe that our era got to enjoy some of the best music ever made. Thankfully, we can listen to it whenever we want. Take care.
I was born in 1961 think I was 8/9 when I first listened to the Brothers Allman ....was raised on their music ...just love these guys ....plz check out the song Leave My Blues At Home ....thanks for posting & the continued enjoyment you bring ....🙏✌️
The world is a poorer place, without the allman brothers. Such great music over the years, performed by incredible musicians.
Allman Brothers Band were amazing together. True Southern Rock Legends for sure. Greg Allman was definitely one of the greatest soulful voices ever. Thank you for the great video work man. Really enjoy.
Greg Allman was a singer who my older brother idolized and modeled his voice after! Not My Cross To Bear is a song my brother has played in every band he ever played in! There's a lot of soul in that sangin'! Thank you, Borther Jamel!
GREATEST BLUES SONG EVER WRITTEN. Hands down ❤️❤️❤️❤️
One of those classic songs. Whatever kind bad day from hell you've had, you listen to this and all seems right again.
I love these...guys reviewing my favorite music. Excellent.
... Puts me in mind of those good ol' Delta Blues..... 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
Interesting. I don't get a connection between Delta Blues and ABB. Which Delta Blues artists do you think influenced ABB or were influenced by ABB?
gato ryak I think Muddy Waters and BB King just to name a few...You can't not hear that soulful blues in some of their music...
However, they both did grow up in the Delta region.
this is as fine of a blues song as has ever been made, by any band, or artist, of any era. Gregg Allman is the greatest to ever do it. peace.
Listen to the Allman brothers since I was 15years old.Turning 59 later this years. It sounds great as ever.
Jaimoe was the first one to join the band if I’m not mistaken.
Sly and family stone....Jimi Hendrix experience were integrated..even b4..so not a big issue ..amazing race was on mend till 2008 to a degree..sorry
I was a kid in the 60s not far from Macon. It wasnt a big deal. Many rock groups of that time had both black and white members.
@@tommypwood672 It was indeed a big deal in the south in the 60's. Maybe not the west coast where Hendrix and Sly were, but Macon Georgia? Shout out to the first integrated band in the south though should go to Booker T and the MG's out of Memphis.
@@gunnerblankenship4132 It may not have been a big deal for the band. But traveling around the southeastern US back in those days was difficult for mixed-race outfits.
MY FAVORITE ALLMAN BROS. song. First time I seen this reacted to anywhere. Thank you for bringing this hidden gem to your subscribers.!!!
Check Out "Stormy Monday" From Their Album Live At The Fillmore. One Of The Greatest Live Albums Ever Made Peroit!
Got to do "Stormy Monday"!! Nothing better!!
Yes Stormy Monday........and the Brothers always gave credit and respect to their influences.
Absolutely one the best live albums ever.
T-bone Walker's version is amazing. If you haven't checked it out, id recommend it. (I think he was the original artist)
Man I've always been a big fan of Stormy Monday by King of the Hill are you know and no one left to run with you know some of the newer songs I think I always thought those two is awfully good especially no one left to run with
Southern Rock/Blues still sounds great today.....This was probably my favorite band....and they sounded awesome in person....glad you like them.....Greg Allman had a lot of soul......He played the organ in most of the songs....
This is one of the best blues songs I've heard in a while.
And unless you're listening to more ABB, it may be the best you'll hear for quite some time . There are so many greats , of course.
But Allman's had 2 great guitarists , 2 great keys, drums, and a singular voice that can only be the cherry on top of this band.
I saw them at jazz fest in 1994 they played 6 songs in 3 hours it was amazing I miss them they were the best !!!
I was in lake placid, NY about 2010 and walking past a bar when I heard an organ. New right away it was a hammond B3. What a piece of furnature to lug around. My wife and stayed all night.
My older brother had this album when it first came out... I was about 11. I knew it was incredible the moment I first heard it. Some of the most soulful guitar playing you will ever hear this side of heaven.
I was on my early teens when one of my buddies bought this album. I was hooked! They could really crank out some blues, Their way! I Loved the double drums. I try my best to listen to anything that they put out. Also listening to Allman Betts Band. Enjoying them as well.
Took my future wife to see the Allman Brothers w/ Little Feat at the Muny in Saint Louis 30 years ago. Awesome!Just saw Allman tribute band "End of the Line" last weekend. They had 3 drummers, 2 guitarists, bass and keyboards. Well worth reliving great tunes!
Still have that album on my Platter. Yeh,Yeah, still spinning vinyl. Not wasting time but steady listener for 45 years or so. Same thing with Ray Charles man, never missed a chance to see RAY. Kind of music that takes riots right out into space never to be heard again. 🤞🏼 Thanks to the music, we will all be together as our souls move on to the next level.
3 huge songs today. What a band! Open that mind brother. You've been exposing yourself to the best of the best rock music has to offer. I love to see the smile. Greg sings with as much passion as anyone. You can feel his hearts pain.
watching your reaction to this, you look the way it makes me feel!peace and love.
One of the best blues songs ever....what fucking guitar work! Vocals are amazing...shit, everything is.
So enjoying this! I was fortunate enough to see them live several times. Enjoy all you do.
This is worth watching just to see your eyes pop when the Hammond B3 kicks in, you pause and ask "Is that my church organ?" Priceless.
The almighty Allman Brothers playing the blues. Don't get much better than that.
Song of my first acid trip
Amazing
I’ve been listening to the Allman Brothers Band since 1970, it never gets old.
If I had two bands to keep and discard all of the rest, the Allman Brothers Band would be one of my keepers.
The second for me would be anything Jerry Garcia touched. RIP
The other one has to be Led Zeppelin.
That’s what music is for, to bring people together. Keep going, dig deeper, there’s so much more to learn!
You've gone and done it now, Bro!!!
You've opened the pandoras box that is The Allman Brothers Band!
EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS LED ZEP!!!!
Keep exploring their music, they will CONSTANTLY blow your mind
👍🎸👍🎸👍🎸👍👍
Incredible 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This IS the song that made me love the blues...for real.
There is another reason we are diggin' on the ABB... The Gospel roots along with the blues roots. You call it your church organ; you got it just right. You are helping me revisit and rediscover the music of my youth. Thank you Jamel.
We had the soul. Just the best times in music period!!
That was my baptism to ABB and I still get chills listening to ABB. You need to review the acoustic version of Greg and Dickey playing "Melissa".
Now you are U Tubin' Jamel. Play anything from the Allman Bros. "Live at the Filmore East" album!!!!
Michael Scott Same thing here.I'm 63 now and still pissoff the neighbors crankin what we called Southern Rock.Allman Bros. Little Feat. Molly Hatchet. Skyynerd. So good to see youngsters like Jamal discover this great 🎶
One of my favorite Allman brothers songs!! It starts right at the end of the previous song so that’s why it comes in so strong! Fills my heart with joy that you are experiencing some of the greatest music ever written!! 👊✌️❤️
And yes you can’t be the Hammond organ for your soul!! Duane on the slide guitar and Greg’s soulful voice.. just pure magic!!
Proud to be from the same home town of these musical geniuses! My Dad talked of how the Allmans use to just jam and party at Central city Park in Macon Ga. back in the along with the Marshal tucker Band , Kî
None better than the ABB. Pure, glorious blues, gospel, and rock. They literally invented a genre.
Southern rock. The Allmans, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet... electric country blues with some delta Mississippi blues and rock and roll mixed in. I listen to the Allmans all the time. Groups like this don't exist anymore.
Jamel, I wish I could take you to an ABB show. I started seeing them in 1991, but unfortunately they aren't around anymore. Started listening to them when I was 5 when my mom played their records at the house. If you like their studio recordings, you would have LOVED being at an Allman Bros show. Amazing music, people and great times! Peace.
I was lucky to see the Allman Brothers Live twice in concert, and it was amazing both times. Peace, y'all!
I love your reaction to the band. I get the same way listening to them. It does get into your soul.
Live your reaction. Loved this band since the early 70's.
Your my favorite man. You get it, you feel the music. So glad your putting the music out there and hopfuly more of the younger generation will appreciate real music.
Now your get some of the best southern rock blues there is enjoy
Hey Jamal mama is this the greatest band you've ever heard? You were right about us banging our heads back in the early seventies with this band. I'm thrilled that you like them
There was an optimism in the air about the issue of race in the 70s. We had made it through the upheavals of the 60s. We had lost Dr King and RFK and our hearts had broken but we all believed that finally we were now on the right track and heading in a good direction. I so hope that we can get back to that together and find our way again. Music may just be the path. You are onto something Jemal. Keep it up.
Agreed, listening to these reactions has made me more hopeful. Can't believe we are still in the same spot pretty much since 60's/70's. Breaks my heart.
Very well said ✌️
I think the damned press and the fascist left wants us conflicted…if we just didn’t pay attention to anyone but those we dig it would all be good. Love what you do.
@@stevoschannel4127 Please look up words like fascist before you use them. I don't think it means what you think it means.
Also "the left" is not filling young white men's minds with blind hatred against people of other skin tones who are trying to "replace" them and telling them to pick up a gun and go shoot them. That's on the right.
So true Robin.... I agree 100 percent
So good to watch you groovin' to your first encounter with a song I've been listening to for 52 years,
The best show opener in the history of show openers.
Wow I'm surprised you found this gem! Heard it when I was 14 yrs old and been listening to the blues ever since!
Gregg and Duane are buried in my home town. Where I still live today. Seen them many times in concert and just hanging around town. Also hanging around Capricorn Records....Way back in the day! Macon, Georgia
Gregg Allman gives me the chills when I hear his voice
