This is the album that changed my musical life...listening to Eat a Peach in the summer of 72 on my friends stoop in Brooklyn changed everything...I went out and bought it on 8track and listened to it none stop that summer. And this song was def one of my faves....so underrated IMO. They were the first of many to hit my soul.
Yes, everytime you said "ain't wasting no more time " I would think of this. The Allmans remind me of my son Joshua. He passed in '19. We drove from Memphis to Jacksonville alot on vacations. They were our Georgia music. From TN line to FLA line, everytime. Love you Josh.
I have no idea how I didn’t know this. Been a fan since my teens. Knew Duane died during production of Eat a Peach, and thought this was one he was playing on. Dickie did a great tribute.
I’m glad I got to them with Duane though it was only once . It was at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Saw them there a few more times afterwards including one of the early times after Duane passed . Then years later several times . One of my favorite all time bands . Saw Gregg solo several times . Always felt they were brothers in soul and spirit if that makes sense. 🙏👌😊☮️
This is one of the all time best songs, and you recognized it right from the jump. This was one of the first songs that got me heavy into music first time I heard it at 13. Been playing and practicing guitar ever since.
This jam came out at a very trying time, for the band and for young people in America. ABB was the epitome of Southern blues/ rock collaboration, they opened up a genre for many other legendary bands. Often imitated, never duplicated.
I wish we still had the chance to see a band on stage with all their instruments and amps able to lock into a soulful groove and bring it down smooth like that and lift people up. Hope we can get back to it. Thanks for such an enjoyable video!
After listening to a lot of Allman Brothers songs, each one my favorite at different times, it boils down to this one being the most brilliant, beautiful, touching, soulful, heartfelt favorite.
The pic on the front porch is on College St. in Macon, 2 doors down from the Massee Apts. It used to be a high priced restaurant(Bealls 1860) after this pic was made. It's now owned by Mercer Univ. Music Dept, and looks great. Yeah, I'm from and live in Macon. Love me some Brothers.
@Jamel so glad you're loving the Allman Brothers Band!!! Duane is my favorite guitarist by far and I've been an ABB fan for years. They were a phenomenal live band and I've seen them live about 12 times. I even had the honor of attending their last show at the Beacon Theater in NYC on October 28, 2014, which was the Anniversary of Duane's death as well. They played that night for four hours finishing up at around 1:45 in the morning. If you want to really get deep into them listen to "Live at the Fillmore", especially the tracks "You don't love me", "Stormy Monday" and "Whipping Post". It shows how they stretched arrangements out to jam on them and then compare the live versions to the studio ones. I would also suggest listening to Derek and the Dominos. Derek and the Domino's was Delaney and Bonnies backing band which Eric Clapton stole with the addition of Brother Duane Allman. I would suggest listening to "Layla", "Why does love got to be so sad" and "Key to the Highway" to start. From the 1990's Allman's start with "Seven Turns". One of my favorite songs ever.
This is a song about realizing mortality and having the strength to carry on. This was recorded just after Duane got killed in a motorcycle wreck, so they all had heavy hearts. So he realized he was mortal and he was going to make the best of every day that he had left. I love the little ditty on the piano. There are several live versions where they jam and jam on that song, tripling the length. It's all good. Greg in TN 😀
Chuck Leavell added so much with his piano playing. It was perfect. Instead of bringing in another guitarist to fill the space of Duane (which might have damaged the band), Chuck's piano served as another lead instrument.
I had five By-Passes in 2017...when I came out of my Quadruple Heart surgery....I was hung upside down with my eyes covered and my hands tied down for safety...stay calm they said...I just Sang this song to my self...AMEN!!!!
A nice recommendation for you is Wilson Pickett’s cover of the Beatles ‘Hey Jude’. Duane Allman plays on it, (the idea for Wilson to do this song was Duane’s). From Wilson’s voice, to Duane’s slide, to the Muscle Shoals rythym section, this tune is a gem.
Duane was a super studio musician. Many requested him to play on their albums. Aretha Franklin (RIP) did and she gave him his nick name of "skydog". And Jaimo was with the Otis Redding band for a while.
These lyrics really resonate with me for some reason. With all the shit we hear from "influencers" and "spiritual gurus" these days sometimes you just need to "leave your mind alone... and just get high." ✌️
I love all the Allman Brothers Band music but I am really particular to Gregg's solo music and renditions of the Abb music. In his solo band he is much more bluesy and jazzy which I find so much more enjoyable. Check out Oncoming Traffic or any song off The Gregg Allman Tour.
I live here in Georgia about an hour and a half away from where the Allman brothers are buried and plan on getting to visit them one of these days soon hopefully before it's too late for me. Can you please check out some Jonny Lang's Lie to Me? Gracias
Gregg IMO doesn't get enough credit for his writing ability. Most Fan's focus on his great soulful voice, which is understandable. But he could also write great songs. This is one of his best, also IMO.
This sounds like a remix. Sounds great, but not the the version I'm used to. What a great day, Gregg Allman and Chris Cornell. Possibly the 2 best voices in history.
As you know by now, you should always listen to The Allman Brothers Band Live. Check out "I'm Going To Move To The Outskirts Of Town" written by Casey Bill Weldon in the 30's. I know you will love this one. ruclips.net/video/Kmq9tvZW7AM/видео.html

Those are two of my all time favourite songs. Love Got To Be So Sad is so underrated. I also really love Bell Bottom Blues even though Duane doesn’t play on that one. It is just heart wrenching but also pretty in a way. The entire album is amazing TBH.

Though he made this conscious decision to move on, I always felt like his use of drugs and alcohol was to kill the pain of his loss.
