Often known for building race cars that were barely civilized enough for road duty, the Lotus name plate certainly garners respect with enthusiasts all around the world. However, a lack of fresh products and dwindling sales numbers have forced the company to step-up their game and expect to see numerous changes to the flagship Evora supercar for the 2016 model year. Until then, how does this carry-over 2014 model stack up against its supercar rivals? - Авто/Мото
Why is everybody in the comments hating on Lotus. This is a great car.
For the price it isn't
coz the one hating lotus is a noob...lotus made cars with one of the best handling in the world
I think Lotus have overplayed the 'Toyota engine = reliability' thing. I've known a few people who own them, and in terms of reliability, I don't think they still have it licked yet. With the added issue of an indifferent and/or darn-right unhelpful dealer network (from what I've seen with my friends cars), i'd be nervous to hand over my hard-earned. But that seems to be the way of the world for many brands ...
By far one of the most thorough and knowledgeable car reviews I've ever watched.
I really dislike this strobe effect and stock dance music. It comes off really lame. Just show the car.
flexor212000 i have to agree on that.
Feels like I'm about to have a dam seizure
flexor212000 fully agree
Really love your reviews man, i've seen em all. keep up the awesome work.
dude...the strobing crap... dont ever use that effect again, please. My eyes are bleeding.
+Themayseffect Definitely. Love your videos rline reviews but damn, poor choice of an effect! Thanks for the great reviews anyway
Ferreira94a
I think he may have taken the hint a long time ago, his recent videos aren't as nauseating.
That's always gppd
+Themayseffect true story bro. could give somebody epilepsy
"if you guys are fffaT"" lol that was funny 😂
Great review man. You do an excellent job. Very informative.
Great review. Thanks for showing the trunk size and other practical considerations.
Love that car. I'll never imagine you upload a video like this. : )
It's been awhile since I've watched one of your videos and I gotta say I love your new Intro.
Great review! I have been following your channel for around a year, and I love your style. You are very honest and to the point, which is a great quality to have when reviewing cars. There are too many channels out there that only say positive things about cars and never have a true opinion.
Quick question, where did you get the hoodie you wore during this review? I really really like it and would love to know haha. If anybody knows please reply, thanks! 👍
Holy hell that exhaust sounds amazing!! And too think it's the same engine as my dad's ES 350 lol
Very Nice review! I love your relaxed, free-flowing style of presentation. Great Job!
I love the Lotus Evora, for me it's the one that got away!
Thanks for the review. Good information and presentation
I love my Evora. I can't wait to drive it every chance I get.
Nice job Sofyan. I still remember the day your Camry engine blew up in Auto Tech in Chantilly. Kudos to your channel bro.
Great review!
Great job...love to see you get enthused about a car
This is an excellent review: the good the bad, and the great things about the car. thanks, man.
Nice review. I own one of these (a Launch Edition - soon to be retrospectively called the Series 1 I guess - so is naturally aspirated). It is an awesome car and does deserve to be called a supercar! I get lots of looks at mine every time I take it out for a drive, and it is really very exclusive. I see more Audi R8s and McLaren MP4/12Cs than Evoras on the roads here in the UK.
The ride isn't that hard and the car is very comfortable over long distances. Mine has the earlier leather version of the gear knob (which I prefer by the way), so I don't need to carry socks other than on my feet. I only managed to get mine to fishtail once coming out of a corner, but wasn't sure if it was because I might have lifted off too soon coming out of it to change up a gear, but the stability system just keep the car in check. With the Pirelli P Zero tyres it just sticks to the road.
I had Lotus Europa S previous to this and it was a pain to get in and out of even though the sills were lower (I couldn't even get into either an Elise or Exige with a hardtop fitted!). The Evora is a lot easier to get in and out of. The trick is to put the seat back before you get in then move it into position, then move the seat back again before you get out; a trick I learned with the Europa S. As mine is right hand drive there isn't the foot well problem of where to put your clutch foot as there is a footrest.
Yes, the glove box is small, but so is the one in the Mk2 SEAT Leon I also own; neither can accommodate the instruction manual! And yes, Lotus has raided other car manufacturers' parts bins, but that is because as a low volume car manufacturer building each vehicle by hand Lotus has always done that. In terms of engines the only Lotuses not to have somebody else's powerplant installed were the Esprit and Excel/Eclat.
I have to say Toyota Camry/RAV4 engine is extremely good, and the gearbox is robust as it is out of the diesel powered Toyota Auris. It doesn't bother me - my Leon has a Golf engine and transmission; some Bentleys have the VW W12 engine and the Bugatti Veyron has the VW W16 engine, but it doesn't make any of them VWs!
Anyway, look out for the Evora "Series 2". I've heard that it will be an awesome bit of kit! I'm looking forward seeing the new Evora at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
Fantastic review.
Good review!
Nice review! 2017 is the Year of Lotus a new supercare incoming ;)
Oh what a car the Evora is. I've had mine nearly a year now and think it is brilliant.
Wow how did you manage to get one of these lol? Looks like so much fun, great review.
Hey could you do one with the 2018 Evora 400?
Toyota and Lotus should just build a joint spec modern mid engine and call it the MR2. Use the same power train, chassis, but have Toyota do the interior and refinement.
Toyota should buy Lotus, then release this MR2 that handles like a Lotus but is priced like a Toyota
@@drj2039 Awesome idea! Would rather have that scenario than a Toyota/Porsche venture.
I've got one. Awesome car.
It helps getting in and out by putting the seat back!
If your not laying in a puddle after egressing a Lotus, it's not a Lotus.
Yup. The signal stocks are from the first gen Focus.
Sitting in mine right now.
When are you going to do a video on the GT400?
I'm looking at a used one any color recommendations?? (for a 2010)
You have to drive it to appreciate it. Sad that it is a track focused car that I never see at the tracks (or autocross). Love Lotus!
Really fair review
Metal shift knobs are nice and all until its a hot day outside! Its like touching Satan! It burns like hell
I just keep a sock in my car
Does no one wear Fratelli Orsini? Who drives a track vehicle without gloves? I can't imagine. Did you see the glove box, it's wear you keep your gloves!!!! My goodness, the plebeian life must be such a dark place...
AnotherSiGuy Is that the only reason you keep a sock in the car? LOL
***** What can I say really? I enjoy reading, appreciate art, and this particular character's cynicism and possible psychosis left a strong impression on me. Plus, most people quickly realize that the comments are tongue-in-cheek when accompanied by an obvious fictional character. Understandable that levels of reading comprehension vastly differ for some...I blame the lack of active parental involvement in the public school system really.
It's just a shift knob. You can change it to a leather one if you want. :)
Can you do a review of the 2003 acura MDX?
Very good and fair review, although I'm surprised about the comments on hopping/fishtailing and a hard ride ... admittedly I'm used to an S1 Elise, but I didn't find this myself and the Evora is pretty famous in Europe for the exceptional compliance of it's ride - it's an area that it excels in, along with steering feel of course. Can't wait to see what the new more powerful and lighter version is like in Geneva next year. Thanks!
Absolutley - and the brakes are to be even bigger on the 400 (now confirmed as being seconds faster around Hethel - this I have to experience to believe)!
Iv driven an exige, like driving a go kart. And I just managed to fit in it, I'm 6' 4. Great car. I'd love an evora S.
Correction about the intro: Lotus sells variants of its Exige Cup R in the U.S. as well. It's not road-legal, but it counts.
Why do people think the Stingray is rare or should get stares?! I see a Ton of Vettes where I live.
Same
It’s almost like a hell cat
Can you please do a review on a AUDI SQ5?
that small space for the legs in the driver´s seat is a killer
one weird quirk i remember about was when i was driving it, the passenger could put his foot through the transmission tunnel and hit my foot.
14:25 so it's ok to text and drive when driving another brand of car?
These are awesome cars! (:
Drop the price by $15k and it's the perfect car
What is the name of song in 0.30-1.12 ??
I love this review. It’s really articulate. It’s good to know that those switch gears and buttons are crappy feeling because I care a lot about where I sit in a car
Brilliant!
Agreed with the McLaren look comment. The front end, especially the headlights, look like a MP4-12C.
Nice Review Of 2014 Lotus Evora. 😁
its funny because when people ask me how to fit in the rear seat I just tell them to sit in the lotus position.
Redline Reviews when are you guys gona do a nissan GTR review?
where do i put my golf clubs?
From directly in front, it looks happy. Kind of like a last gen Mazda.. I like it(:
I can do without the strobe light effect please. Hurts my eyes
Maybe you should review a GT-R R35 one day? I'd like to see your reaction to the launch control.. lol
"this... wheel well thing" *point* lol just call it a sill leading to the wheel well. the driving tunnel may be tight but it's much worse in higher exotics. I recall the wheel humps on the Countach forced the pedals to be awkwardly condensed near the center of the car, making for interesting learning curve for even experienced drivers.
whats the name of the song at 0:35
Best car reviewer hands down.
oaccessasia1 hands up 👐 ☝
Has a smile reminiscence of the NC1 Miata :)
flicker editing = anoying.
Anyone know the song title in the intro??
The Evora is my Dream Car!!!!
You are in D.C.?
Nice, Lotus needs to fix the lack of space in the footwell and only then, many people would / will buy this car.
"Some of the ergonomics are a little bit of a fail."
Oh man, I laughed so hard.
Once you mentioned the key, I noticed the Ford Transit uses the same design and the turn signal switch and the wiper lever come from a 2007 Ford Focus! :D or maybe Ford just uses a bunch of parts from all over? :/
looks like a really fun drivers car. Not a lot of those anymore.
it sucks that the climate controls feel chintzy? because the original Lotus Evora had solid aluminum controls. Did they make them cheaper or something for the later models?
what was the price of it?
I LOVE THIS CAR
What song is this?
Do the 2007-8 Exige!
Watching this in the dark almost gave me epilepsy
there is a much easier way to enter and exit a car like that than the one shown.
open the driver's door then turn your back to the interior and sit down SIDEWAYS into the seat such that you're facing out. reach with your right hand to hold on to the steering wheel for balance if you must, then swing your legs in. trying to step in with your right leg first is NOT the way to do it. once sitting in the seat sideways, facing out, your feet and legs are at the proper level to swing under the steering wheel, knock your two feet together (to remove dirt and rocks if you're the type) without touching anything. reverse the process to get out. you'll save wear and tear on the left side seat bolster, the door sill and kick plates too.
on another note: why in the world they redesigned the front end in the later models is something i'll never understand. IMO a giant step backward.
excellent review BTW.
That MX5 smile though
Could have went with out the flashy intro lol..
Nice review! Glad I watched this first. Made me not want to buy the car.
15:12 the left rear view mirror :D
shout-out to the leaf at 12:05 for being terrified everytime he rev'ed lol.
dat miata smile
I believe the Ford GT has the same Ford Focus stalks.
I think of it more as a hand built exotic sports car than a supercar. I guess I would consider at the Evora 400 a supercar.
Congratulations on that jean.
I like the car but why do lotus needs rear seats in the car if no one is going to fit in the rear.
Sounds good.. Wouldn't say this v6 sounds better than nsx though.
I agree that engine is so sexy that I can listen you rev that "Camry engine" up for 10 hours straight
It looks like a hennessey venom gt in the rear ,mclaren mp4-12c/f1 in the front and alfa romeo 4c body size
Tortilla Chip the Hennessy is based on a Lotus
I wish they would bring back the esprit.
I am still waiting for a four seater sports car with cool stereo and a silk dashboard blast with air con. I prefer comfort than the stylish design.
The Lotus Elise is also sold here.
I wish it had a targa top!! Evora roadster!
I think they don't sell well in the US, is not because of the safety regulations but because they're impossible to get in and out of. Aston Martin was able to get exempt due to limited volume and Lotus' volume is even smaller!
I really love this car but this V6 is ok, the Jaguar F Type coupe is the best sounding V6 by far.
+Gorilla Jones Listen to the new Evora 400. It sounds a lot better than this
Gorilla Jaguar suck
9:40 - Moaning about the handbrake not making a "Pleasant sound" deserved a 'Thumbs Down"
Come back to Top Gear Clarkson ... all is forgiven!
B is for build
The side profile looks like a shorter Spyker.
This car in beige leather is really nice.
I love the car...because you can get one used for like 45k....but I’m 6’3 so I don’t think I could fit
2GR-FE is a Toyota/Lexus V6 lol...interesting choice of engine
Lotus has a tradition of that. Elise S used Toyota 1.8 l engine. Exige also used Toyota engine with an added supercharger.
Lotus still exists in America!!???? Damn I haven't heard about Lotus in YEARS and they don't even show a single Lotus in all the newest car videos and magazines here. I thought they just stopped selling them in general in U.S. Porsche is definitely the way to go for the high end sports car/low end super car category.
