I learned something new today. If a mechanic does not have this guys knowledge on Old School cars, I do not want them anywhere near My vehicle. This Man is very good.
I've bought from Fox Body Resto many times in the past. I never knew that they had a full service garage which is run by a guy who is quite possibly the most complete book of knowledge on the Fox Mustang. Very awesome!
Awesome vid guys. I'm a foxbody lover; bought my first one, a 93 5.0 5 speed, off the lot in Sep of 92, and burnt the stock clutch out in 35k miles, powershifting near every takeoff. They are just so much fun to drive; when they're running properly. Had that one till '14, when my oldest son was driving it and on a late, dark, and very foggy night, another driver slammed into the rear end and buckled the top, bottom and left frame. I now have another 5.0 notch, that is my "tinker toy(street racer)" and a 93 2.3l vert, that I've been fixing up; just for fun.
Nice car there fellas. I want to drive mine again bad but I think I need to get the interior and dash back in first....lol. Great channel and love the restoration side of the fox hobby. There was a time when the words restoration and foxbody never went together in the same sentence but I'm so glad to see that foxes are finally having their time now. Love the survivors.
You're right they were not considered much good for what they originally were for a long time there, but I'm glad many are survivors and being restored now. Good luck on the dash project!

I have been driving fox body since the early 90’s. Had a black 93 cobra I kick myself thinking about it. Sold it. I currently own a stock 88 gt vert manual. 57k original miles. Keeping this one! Yes it gets a lot of attention when I pull it out the garage for a quick drive. Thinking about switching out on turbines for cobra r wheels.
Nice car for sure. As far as the ignition module, mine left me stranded this summer past after doing a lot of driving, I put an after market one on and 3 weeks later the new one had me stranded at a very bad spot on the highway in the pitch dark. The metal on the corner where it bolts on had separated from the plastic. If I touched it at that spot it would start, if I touched it again, it would stall. You could tell where it was put together it was not made of quality. Get a good one and have even a cheap new one or known good used one in the dash as an extra. Just in case you break down.
I'm sorry that happened, but everything you said is right. They can really go out at any time and leave you stranded. Best to have an extra if you can.
Dude never seen a radiator cap like that!! He must be new at this game. I used to buy those because you can relieve pressure from pulling up that lever. It was just a little safer than the regular cap. Pip inside distributor goes bad too,not just modules.
actually, it's not that he hasn't seen a cap like that (i use the Stant versions often, I owned three 1986 Ford products that pegged out the temp gauges after 127,000 miles whenever i came to a stop--it was the damn voltage regulator Ford used in the dashboards that year), it's that he hasn't seen a range like that. usually it's just a single number. I got skunked on an Olds 455 two years ago, ran fine for an hour in summer to drive to a car show, sat there, came home from the car show and she blew the aluminum radiator apart 5 minutes later sitting in the shade after an hour on the highway. Put in a brass radiator, drove another hour to a different show, sat all afternoon no prob...then drove home, and 15 minutes later i find a driveway full of coolant again and the lower rad hose blown off. impossible, right? defies physics? somehow broken cars get me home now that i'm an orphan, but the problem was the rad cap...a shop tested it to its limit and said it was fine, but I tested it up to 25 psi and it still didn't release. Later i discovered the aftermarket temp gauge was faulty, so i was reading 180 on the drive when it was probably 200. how she sat at car shows and didn't strand me there is the thing i can't explain--but i'll accept it :)
Just another clean GT, love the color, as you know not a big fan of the cheese grators, or the turbines, but being a stock GT the match what came with. Great coverage Matt.
Considering the odometer doesn't have 100k yet....but seriously is the money even a thing here? He is repairing int because it was his cousins car, so I don't think that part matters.
Great video. Where can I purchase the throttle body coolant lines for my 88. I still have the originals in place. Thanks for the help and the great videos! Ben
I thought that the 87-93 GT was odd looking compared to the LX 5.0 but I did buy a set of 89 GT wheels and tires from Kenny Brown in 1989 and put them on my 5.0 4 speed Pace Car. The TRX tires were the worst thing Ford ever put on a Foxbody. In 1989 I had the idea to manufacture chromed plastic 3 bar spinners to fit the 87-90 GT wheels but it would have taken about $100,000 to get it to the market which I’ve never had.
I am somewhat new to the Fox Body game but recently acquired two. I would love to have a check list of things that are common failure points that I should address so I would have an idea of where to start tinkering.

I have the same car 87 gt two tone medium shadow blue with sunroof. A lot of the major work is in the body, paint and interior but I hate to think of all the work it needs i cant see underneath it. 😳
I used to have an 87 also, but convertible, with the same blue two-tone with that blue stripe down the molding. I bought it from a guy that had a small accident on the front right fender so I had to replace that. It was only a 55,000 mi car and in immaculate condition except for the damage which I immediately fixed. I really hate that I sold that car. Between me and my brother we had about 35 fox body 86-93 mustangs over the years. Of course I really wish I had every one of them back and was able to keep them all. LOL. Also I just found this channel on RUclips and it's really cool. Thanks.
There is zero chance you can diagnose a worn differential clutch doing what he did. Especially since the assembly controls rotational slippage and not latteral movement. Why not just put it in neutral and spin a wheel by hand? Bad clutches will show when one wheel spins in opposite (open diff) direction.
I really like these videos as well. This guy definitely came to the right place. I'd love to have Doc Fox roast one or all of my cars. It's almost scary though thinking about the possible repair bill. I'm sure FMR Matt is fair and honest though.

Roast an 87 Fox........hmmmm. Jokes..... Flimsy unibody that has more flex than a bowl of chicken alfredo. So nose heavy that if it was a weight lifter it missed leg day.....repeatedly. Beyond that, since it's a forged piston engined car, the jokes stop here. Except for the T5.......it really puts the strip in stripper. #byethirdgear #wherearemysynchros
Replace the entire power steering system because the fluid is a little dark? Replace the springs because it's more than 60K miles even though the ride height is correct? Brake shoes? - they don't need replacing. For superficial cracks all they need is to be used and they'll wear down through the layer. WTF kind of scam are you running on this guy?

@@GearHead704 I appreciate it, I saw it was an automatic( got to have a 5 speed). It's just not the same experience lol
This guy is way too serious lol car has another 20 years in it lol
Mainly maintenance items, should enjoy driving it for a long time.
90k, 190k, 290k.. 🤔
Actually it was 80k lol
Roast an 87 Fox........hmmmm. Jokes.....
Flimsy unibody that has more flex than a bowl of chicken alfredo.
So nose heavy that if it was a weight lifter it missed leg day.....repeatedly.
Beyond that, since it's a forged piston engined car, the jokes stop here.
Except for the T5.......it really puts the strip in stripper. #byethirdgear

Ok, this legit made me chuckle. Not full laugh, but Chuckle at least! lol Thanks man.
Thanks for watching
