Thanks for the interesting video. I still have the ‘86 GT that I ordered from Dearborn a little over 37 years ago. Same color combination as your daughter’s, although it’s a 5 speed with the 3.08 rear axle ratio that was a no cost option over the standard 2.73. Power windows , AC, tinted glass and a sunroof were also ordered. At this point it’s accumulated a little over 9,000 miles since new and has never been subjected to any inclement weather spending most of it’s life covered and garaged.
Everything, and I mean everything is original with the exception of all fluids, oil filters and it’s 4th battery. As pointed out in your video, age takes it’s toll regardless of mileage even under the best of storage conditions. Rear hatch lift struts being something I’ll also have to attend to soon. Again, thanks for the video and the best of luck on (new) ride! 👍🏻

@@GearHead704 I found a 50,000 mile original rust free and I mean rust free beautiful 1986 LX. My problem is it’s a 3.8. I built plenty of cars and I owned an 86 GT. I’m just worried turning this car into an 86 GT is going to end up costing twice what just finding a clean GT would be? But for 3500 bucks for documented 50,000 miles survivor 86 LX from the original owner garage kept its whole life all the paper work etc even being a V6 I’d say that’s a pretty good starting point plus I don’t think she’s gonna get in any trouble with a 3.8 L lol what do you think should I grab it?

I’m not bending over backwards for a V6, that’s for sure. Some of the prices people are asking are just absurd not every car is a low mile SSC worth 40 to 60 grand lol people seem to think they’re ragged out 87 with 160,000 miles on it with Amazon euro headlights is worth 20 grand, that being said, I’m confident if we just stick to it will find a clean one somewhere. Why I didn’t keep my 86 GT or 88 LX 5 L i just don’t know I remember turning down an 86 ASC McLaren Capri in 99 because I thought 2500 bucks was ridiculous for it 😂😂😂😂 Anyway stoked I found your channel man keep the videos coming. When I pulled the cover off and found the ignition switch separating, I thought I could bend the pot metal tabs to tighten it. Snap! @GearHead704 Exactly. We went on a short roller coaster ride getting some issues sorted out on our daughter's car. It was down for about 2 months at one point. It killed me because she had to go back to college right after spring break without it. She was such a good sport about the situation though.

Them Hellcats are mean and blister the tiree a lot, but don't cut them Foxbody's sny slack! Thay aren't super bad by todays standard, but they are light in weight and turn a pretty good quarter mile! I know, I have had an all original 87 GT hatchback for a long time. Love it, just put the first set of tires on it two years ago! No it isn't for sale!😊

It did sit for 21 years. I found a lot of the inspection marks on it as well like the alternator, steering rack, and intake manifold. I think it's legit 50k, plus I trust Chris of TIP who I bought the car from.

My 91 had its OEM date coded plug wires still on it too. It is cool till you realize it doesn’t really matter because they need to be changed. Along with many other original parts. Radiator, water pump, etc etc.
I would do a pan/filter service on the AOD. With that only changing 1/3 of the fluid that is perfect.
