You know Eli is a true car guy when he has one unfinished project, but dives headfirst into another one. Lol. We’ve all been there! Great find Eli, that thing looks really solid!
Hahaha much appreciated! Although my mother was very mad at me for buying it at first I just simply couldn’t pass up on it!
You did good Eli, I would have grabbed that thing too, you’d be surprised how well she cleans up, and a ‘87 t-top is a special find most t-tops are 4 eyed years……hang on to that one…..in another 10/20 years it’s gonna be a $40k car…….fyi I had an ‘87 just like that same colors and 5spd too just no T-top, that thing flew like a rocket ship it looked completely stock but I think someone put a cam in it and a 140 or 160 speedo, I can’t remember it was over 20 yrs ago, but I do know the speedo limit was higher that most……we named that car Chewbacca…..because of the sound it made going down the road……good times
Brother gotta have legit buy my contour svt clean title 76k milles rare car
Gear head to the max, I have the same problem lol.
@@EliHasan hopefully once the Mustang is running, Alex can get in his shop and help you putting rust guard 💂♀️ on under the car, you want to protect it if you are going to daily it through the winter 🥶 months.
I can't believe after all of those fixes, the one thing that kept it from running was a slightly loose connector in the steering column. That gremlin was probably what grounded the car.

Awesome. So cool of you Alex and Peter to donate your time helping a young car enthusiast. Your creating a future mechanic. 😇.
Can't wait to see this get detailed!!!!
This brings me back to when I had my 93 GT. This definitely looks like a 43k mile car, not 143k. Awesome find and price!
Love the parking lot diagnosis just like most of us find ourselves from time to time. Way more interesting than than watching guys throw money at cars and call it a build. For that I’m subscribed!

Bro I found my 91 GT in some old guys garage, paid him $800 and I've had it for 12 years fixed a lot of stuff, new quarter glass windows, original Ford Windshield and brand new original cheese grater tail lights. Keeping it as original as possible. Great car did a bunch of work to it just love it!!!! Growing up in the mid 80's to late 90's I've always wanted a 5.0 mustang I was lucky to have ,made my dream come true.
I could have watched this for another 44 minutes. Well done Alex.
Peter is the best addition to this channel. I’ve been waiting since the beginning and loved each and every video. Watch Alex have a buddy to work on cars with is awesome! Keep up the great work!
Agree, Peter is awesome
Agreed, Peter is such a good addition! He seems like a no BS, always happy, always helpful human.
So true, channel with Peter feels less "empty". This guy's one big smile makes me smile even if I don't feel like smiling :D.
Alex, great to see you having so much success with your channel. I recently finished doing a full resto- mod on my 1992 5.0 that I have owned off and on for 20 years. It now has 360,000 miles on it and runs and looks great. Felt like I was standing right next to you guys on this one. Also I love that the younger generation is interested in these cars and they know what they are.👍
any recommendations for someone trying to buy one? err on the side of one that has been babied a bit?
@inthedougout301 If you want a nicer one that has been taken care of and has lower miles you might take a look at bring a trailer. Beyond that you can look at online classifieds but prices have certainly gone up for the cleaner examples. Cheers.

It's crazy how almost everything still worked after 25 years.

Not really. Those cars literally can sit in a barn for years and it takes so little to get them back up and running. I have done it so many times. Parts are extremely easy to get.

Alex you need to get a foxbody on the channel, I was super excited to see the thumbnail and title on this one.
I’m having flashbacks, Alex! I was a Mustang guy before I was a Mercedes guy and I owned a ‘93 5.0 LX back when they where new and years later worked at a Ford Performance shop and specialized in Fox body Mustangs. I’ve worked on lots of these cars and this one is very clean for its age and I would almost say that it’s 43k miles just looking at how clean the interior and undercarriage looks. So sad that someone let this car sit outside but it’s going to be a nice resto! Can’t wait for more updates.
Do you guys own a Ford? Whatcha got? I have the 02 Lightning and my wife's 2011 Twin-Turbo Mustang GT.

Definitely my favorite series of cars and video! I love the late 80s , early 90s fox bodies. Had 2 early on in life and was convinced to be a man and grow up it was best to sell one and my brother totaled the other after not having even 30 days. I’m was such an idiot! Now I can’t find one I can afford and if I do, around here they’re not worth fixing. 🤦♂️ … Someday!!!!
You guys are incredible! Starting a car that sat for 25 years…in a parking lot! So cool if you and Peter to help out Eli. You’re a great mentor!
Love watching real car guys, not money throwers. New sub here for sure. Great video guys
Judging by the interior alone I'd say it's a 43,000 mile original car!
Add 100k to it
@@foeloko no shot, definitely 43k
Mad respect to Alex for doing all this work in a parking lot. A lot of RUclipsrs wouldn't do this at all!
a car dont stay abandoned 25 yrs in a car park
yes it can
I'd say based on the fact it has the original plug wires it's probably 43k. at 143k you'd think somebody would have ended up changing the wires within that period.
A good tell tell sign is the interior, 143k interior would be a lot more used than that. I agree, 43k miles.
Especially with the inevitable mustang driver seat tearing
AWESOME video!! I’m so glad Eli is learning how to bring back the dead. It will help him in his career. Great job to all at Legit Street Cars and Eli ((my grandson)! Very proud of everything I’ve seen from each of you!
I still love this body style after all these years.
This is amazing. I own an 89 GT. I can tell you a bunch of places to look for leaks and rust that may not be very common. Idk if you talk about it in the video but be sure to get full length subframe connectors. Also upgrade that fire starter alternator to the 3g alternator ASAP lol. As for the ignition switch they were known to literally fall apart
can always spot the long term older Ford owner, they know about the 2G alternator and the ignition switch.
@@gadget73 and the stock clutch quadrants suck too
When you did the compression test I almost jumped out of my seat before you said it was a wet test haha. I though this thing sat for 30 years and made 12:1 compression 😂
Them old 302s are solid ass motors
lol same
12 to 1 you can't process that from a compression test. That is determined through stoke vs cc.
Time stamp?
Who wouldn’t want a friend like him? “Hey, I bought an old car, do you think you can have a quick look to see what I need to make it run?” And then he does this!! I need someone like that to call. 🤣👍
Wow, you’ve got to make this a start to finish project series of video’s so we can follow the progress. Deffo a 43k motor.👍🏻
I wouldn't wanna be the guy that sold it for 2 grand and found out it got fixed for a couple hundred lol
This was an AWESOME episode!! Thank you Alex and friends! Everyone LOoves an old Mustang 5.0. (These were made for modding. Mo powa and...what did ford call it? Posi Trac? Or was it True Trac? Well an LSD diff anyway. No way that has over 100,000 miles. It's 43 for sure. I think EVERYTHING on that car is from factory. Even the plugs. I also think those mufflers were either an option from OEM or were done by request for the owner by the dealer. IMHO.
I have a 91 Mustang LX, that seems to have a similar problem, where it's losing fuel after a few minutes. Likely the fuel filter, or the placement of the sending unit - which you video helped me to identify. Sadly because I couldn't identify those issues prior, it's been sitting for nearly 6 months. Thank you for your enthusiastic adventure! I hope to get my Mustang running again.
Could also be a ruptured diaphram in the fuel psi regulator on the rail. Or one of the items mentioned above. Thankfully Foz service parts are cheap and plentiful.
Have you checked the relay? Because mine did that. It'd run for a few minutes, and then die. Then I could start it and it'd run for a few seconds. Rinse and repeat as I limped it home.
I had the same issue with my 88 notch and it was pin holes in the fuel line. Replaced them and adjusted the tps and ran better than it ever had for me
This car is a prime candidate for a dry ice cleaning. Great job
I recently revived my own '87 Fox, funny to watch you guys go through a lot of the same stuff that I did. In a pinch you can jump the starter solenoid to crank any Ford of this era. When you're replacing the distributor cap and wires, you should remove the sprout connector and bump the timing to 14 Degrees at idle, it wakes the stock cars up a bit, it's probably still at the stock 10 Degrees since nothing else looks like it's been touched. Can't wait to see the first burnout.
The straps on the fuel tank… wow!
Around here, those would’ve been completely rotted if not missing and the tank held in place by a ratchet strap!
Absolutely brilliant to see you inspecting and scoping the engine before just turning it over. Great job!
That’s a $2500 deal! I would lean towards 43k miles . Great find and project 👍
hope to see more of eli on the channel, it's awesome seeing you take him under your wing and be a role model to him!
$2500 for an abandoned fox body with 143k miles on it?? Am I the only one who thinks that’s a bad deal?
Yes
Alex, you’re the man for helping Elliot out and in a parking lot yet. Well done!
Alex and Peter, keep this great content coming, what a great concept and the joy on Eli's face is GREAT! Love this CONTENT!
Wow...to get a car that sat for 30 years to run in a parking lot is definitely triumphant. Nice to have knowledge about cars. Good job dude. 👍👍👍
When I was 17 my old man got a new 1987 GT. Blue with silver effects. Every time I weaseled my way into driving it, it was sideways and smoking tires. I cant believe I didn't wreck it. lol.
One of the best cars Ford ever made! They are so fun to own and modify!
When he says "that car runs" 👁️👄👁️

We are currently filming content on our 86' Fox after smoking a Deer 🦌@ 85mph & braking from 110. We are also reconsidering an abandoned 88' Fox we filmed earlier.....so much to get too !!!
This is the car that got me into cars! My uncle had an 89 5.0 and my mom used to drive it all the time
Ditto, my mom's 89 LX 5.0! Have a Ford sign over my garage, and there's still one blue oval parked in it.
Same here. It was certainly one of them at least. I was 8 in '89 & my neighbor had an '89 5.0 in this color.
When I heard him fire it up & saw him getting in with his rat tail blowing around, I knew that's where it was at.
Started listening to heavy metal & thrash shortly after also hahaha
Great job guys, especially firstly taking the time to properly prepare that old 5.0 before trying to start it after 25 years, you all are LEGIT
Persistence!!! Wow Alex, I woulda quit when the starter fluid caught on fire. But nooooo, you're dropping gas tanks, putting in fuel pumps and tinkering with ignition switches. This would have been impressive if it was done at your shop on a lift. But in a parking lot??? I have a whole new respect for you and your mechanic skills. And Eli seems like a good dude so time and effort well spent.
Bravo Alex. It seems as though you sparked something in Eli. I Always love to see youngsters get bitten by the bug to keep these old cars running. Keep up the good work and Eli...we can't wait to see your next adventure.
Thank you!!!
Normally when I see these "first start after XX years" videos, I want to put my fist through the screen at the sheer ignorance and idiocy on display, like "let's just throw a starter pack on here and give her a good ole' krank, wow, why did the engine destroy itself?"
This is done with great care and sympathy towards the car. I love it.
Watched this from start to finish. I was on the edge of my seat. How will this end? Did anyone get hurt during filming? Does the little stang get rolling? This was epic!
Oh
That 25 year old fuel can be cut with water 10 times and still be as potent as the gasoline in 2023
Looks like a 50,000 mile car to me. ESP with it being a mustang
Definitely 43,000 mile car! The clues are consistent with the visual evidence. Previous owner said he only drove it 83 miles b4 parking it as investment hoping it would be worth money some day! The plug wires being factory and the fact that it was only a few years old when parked l, no way it got 143,000 miles in 3 or 4 years with that nice of interior!
Way too many original ford Motorcraft parts. The previous owner literally put Flowmasters on it and nothing else. Didn't even change the plug wires. No way those seats have seen 143k. Based on how the rest of the car looked and original parts, no way the interior was changed.
God, I love the foxbody. They are so weirdly proportioned and look totally rad doing so.
I had a 1988 GT in the mid 1990's with over 200,000 miles and it was cleaner than this one inside and out. These cars hold up well when taken care of. Mine was all original except Flowmaster mufflers, a K&N filter, and a Ford Motorsport speedometer (shows higher MPH than the stock one). I had no problems with it and only changed the tires and alternator during my ownership. Great car!
Definitely a 43,000 mil car. I bought an '89 Mustang convertible from an estate back in 2010 and the interior looked just as intact and nice as Eli's. Score!
Bro for $2500 you have a deal!!!
That feeling of getting an old car that’s been sitting forever running again? Oh man.
I bought a w201 from a friend about 6 years ago that had been sitting for 10+ years. It needed a water pump (the reason it was parked) and fuel pumps (uses two) and boom, fired right up.
P.s alex, that car is the whole reason I started following your channel lol I was searching for Mercedes’ content and you came up, been a fan ever since. Keep it up 👍🏽
Awesome! I just picked up a W205 today. Rock solid. I love the W201s but finding them in the Midwest is next to impossible. And the ones you do find are junk at this point.
So cool. You are like a mechanical magician. I like how the exhaust even pops like a modern sports car
I don’t like watching videos longer than 20 minutes but I stayed the whole time and loved every second of it. No time wasted, beautiful car and you guys all knew what you were doing.
If it's from the weat, places are a lot more spread out. If it has 143K miles, it's probably a lot of highway miles based on all the wear indicators in the interior.
This was my dream car in high school. I remember reading about them in Car and Driver, as they continuously kicked the Camaro's ass.
35 years later, enjoyed the video, and really looking forward to seeing this young lad get to enjoy restoring and driving a classic 80s revival muscle/pony car.
That’s the truth they definitely kicked those Camaros asses lol
Ford wasn't doing any "ass kicking" actually. The 350 TPI F-bodies were neck and neck with these.
This brings back memories of my '80s high school years! It was 5.0 Mustangs against IROC and Z28 Camaros. The Mustangs were a bit lighter so they tended to move out more quickly, if I remember correctly. My favorite was the non-IROC Z28 and I'm thinking some day I'll try to find a decent one and fix it up.
I used to have a 1987 IROC Z28 it was black and gold
I miss my IROC
She’s gonna be a gem when finished! Even if the engine doesn’t run a simple rebuild doesn’t brake the bank and is a great learning experience.
Exactly!

My oldest sister had a brand new 1990 Fox body GT, that was strawberry red with the five speed transmission.
We went to Mountain View Ford in Chattanooga Tennessee, and I helped her pick it out. Even though it only had 225 HP and 300 lbs of torque, it was a very fun car to drive.
It's hard to believe that we have cars like my Chrysler 300 SRT8 now, and the 2021 Super Stock that I just sold that had over 800 HP.
That was a little bit too much for the street, but damn it was amazing how quick you can hit triple digit numbers on the speedometer.
My wife said that I was going through a midlife crisis whenever I bought it, but she helped me get over it really quick after she drove it the first and only time. LoL
That's okay because there is a RAM TRX that I have my eyes on, I'll have to hide the paperwork from her this time. She'll never want to drive it, because she hates pickup trucks thank goodness. Great video thanks for sharing.

Yws, 88 was the last year of T- tops on Fox body ponies! They were leftovers (thet-tops) fro. 87 production .
They discontinued them because the cars would 'twist due to the power!
Luckily my sexy Fox is a 89 5.0. 5 5-speed coupe, aka notchback!
It's not gonna twist..I've had mine for over 30 years!
So many people are paying a lot more than I did brand new for a resto/ project car with tons of miles! Even though it was my daily driver for almost 20 year I still have only 93k miles! Had to eventually grab an Explorer because ponies aren't the best in the snow!! 😳
p.s. Flowmasters are a necessity! 😂
I knew that ignition switch needed replacement from the first time he tried to start it and said it had a sweet spot. That is a very common failure on 80s-90s Fords. The switch falls apart and causes all kinds of issues. That could be the reason it was parked in the first place.

Edit: I wrote the above comment while I was watching the video. Little did I know at 28:34 (only a minute later!) the REAL shiznit would happen. I like the channels that do things for show and for fun, but when something's real, the viewer feels it, and this channel really brings that across with Alex's enthusiasm, concern, and immediate reactions to bad situations.
