@@rvb6380 the video isn't the same without hector :(
Does hé have a Twitch ???
The same video on top lane would be nice
Yeah with Kennen or Quinn since theyre the most annoying!
You can apply these basics to toplane as well
It's exactly the same, only difference is is some champion specifics
not really exactly the same, toplane is WAY longer, which makes it favorable to meele champs in some situations
@@MultiReptilian It's the opposite, ranged champs have a longer area to kite
The timing of all in with melee is pretty important too, if you go in at the wrong time the enemy's minion wave will be around and will absolutely obliterate you.
Id love to see a high elo example where everyone does the right thing and then see how the melee all in works out and again how to handle or avoid it as the range champ. Thx good work i learned sth here
yeah, he usually shows doing the right thing vs doing the wrong thing. I think correct actions vs correct actions would be better

I feel like something like this shouldn't be done on smurf accounts cause 90% of the replays is "he shouldn't have done that here"
Ok, so how do I win if they play right? if I'm melee and they never use their important cooldowns do I just sit under turret and stay 40 cs down all game? if I'm ranged and don't have a stun how do I win if they played right and are still at almost full health till level 3?
Thats why the jungler exists. If you are meelee and continue to be pushed under your tower it means that the enemy is next to your tower way more time than it should be, a opening for a gank. In ranged you will need to take care at the powerspike at level 3 of your enemy. If you did everything right, you should be with much more farm and gold than your opponent, so back off, go base, buy your item and return to lane. Now you do so much damage that your opponent cant all win. And the opponent always do a mistake, even in competitive. Thats why their matches are so slow, they need to wait for a mistake from their opponent
most mages have stuns and if not there are still other important cooldowns to keep in check
@@notsoslick that really doesn't answer my question since I asked how should the situation play out if both sides followed this strategy and we're now at the level 3 part they talk about where the melee looks for the all in.
To reword my question is how do these strategies work if the opponent plays right and not well im ranged and he's level 3 but can't do anything cause he's low on health. I'm asking how to handle it as the mage if they have full health at this point and as the melee how do you handle it if they always save their key cooldowns
Charlie Cook ah I think I see what you mean. If you are a mage and you are still healthy lvl 3, it’s pretty hard for assassins to engage on you if you have all of your abilities up. They usually won’t look for an all in unless you make a mistake like walking up too far or wasting your cooldowns, so as long as you don’t waste abilities or overstep it’s pretty hard for them to kill you. But then again I’m only in gold so I don’t really know much but this is what I took from the cideo
Charlie Cook as for the assassin’s part I don’t really know what you would do if the mage is playing perfectly, but as long as you aren’t masters/challenger I would imagine they make those mistakes in lane at least sometimes, and all the time for low elo
This video was very helpful for me, just started playing league and I like a lot of the assassin characters, akali, talon, diana, katarina but when playing ranked I often get counter picked by a mid caitlyn or ashe who just bullies me in lane, now i know how to beat them next time i see this, thanks!
this dude deadass looking at skillcapped while starting to play.
he's gonna hit platinum mmr before even reaching lvl 30 LOL
good job
I have been playing league from season 2 start, and each season was ending really close to Master elo, and this content helps me identify my missplays a lot. Big thanks for doing that and keep it UP
My only thought with the Lux vs Fizz: "Then why did he die two times?" :D
Overextended high elo players do this often
jungler
Yeah he hasn't even won the lane yet, he hasn't roamed at all I'm assuming, so his bot is still 50/50, or in my case 10/90. I hate how every game they show they have the jungle gank for them in a ranged vs melee matchup. In almost no games do I actually get the jungle even though the laner is always overextended without vision. I still win the lane often because their rank is inflated from playing ranged so they don't know to play safe without mana, but then it turns out by the time I'm Lvl 9 my team is down a bunch of kills, two drags, two turrets, and a herald, and the game is essentially over. I split smart take turrets up to their inhib, but my team surrenders 4-1 for no reason, that's been 4 of my games in the last 6 I've played. The other 1, I hard carried. An the other i had a leaving Ashe when we were winning pretty hard, but I played bad and got caught out a lot and we ended up losing that. I really have no idea how I can climb from top lane when i have a losing botlane 13/15 times, and a losing jungle 11/15 times. I almost always win lane and can snowball, but I can't split fast enough and my team loses 2 v 4 in a teamfight, when I can win a 1 v 3 against everyone but their adc or jungle usually just can outdamage me. Please someone help me
@@adriantomaszewski2121 I mean, it was winning the early game. You gotta see, even with 2 deaths in the end, fizz could do nothing. Also the *jungle* gank didn't matter. If you looked at health bars. Let's say ekko wasn't there. Then fizz e's towards lux instead of away. He's already been chunked super hard so lux still gets a kill. Also yes, there is more than the lane phase, this is just showing the beginning of the lane. Also when malphite showed up for one of those kills, if he wasn't there, lux just would've hit fizz with some damage and walked away. The point is he was ahead lol.
@@adriantomaszewski2121 Just one word: attitude. Whether things are happening the way you describe them here or youre exaggerating, the problem in both cases still lies within your attitude.

Just came back to LOL after a many years hiatus. Thanks for the video helped me immensely
Ok I just wanna say that i think this Video is the best lol video i have ever seen. It would be nice if you could make a melee vs melee and ranged vs ranged vid
Hi. Thanks for the video.
I got into these concepts in past few years watching your video but still have 2 questions from the ranged perspective:
1) Choosing between harassing and last hitting as a range, what is more important? My answer is that harass creates tempo so I should go for it rather than collecting 20 gold.
2) How to play the matchup against lvl 2 ganks or camp?
I also have 2 questions as a melee:
1) What if you get ganked during a minion crush? - do I soft shave the wave?
2) How not to get low on HP while trying to last hit crushed minions?
So I'm two years late but I suppose if I'M reading this, so are other people. Take my opinion with a grain of salt because I, too, am dirt elo. This will just be pretty noob advice that helped me in my low elo games.
As a melee midlaner I'd say that to answer 1) definitley prioritise farm. I've played against so many mages who will completely overcommit trying to harass me and I will either just take it, hard shove third wave and cheater recall, while they're struggling to farm under tower with no mana if I feel like I can't kill them lvl 3. Or, if they're very squishy and I think I can kill them lvl 3, I'll abuse the fact that these people will usually tunnel vision on trying to get me low and completely ignore the lvl 3 powerspike many assassin mids have (yone, zed, akali etc.). The only times I really find myself struggling to carry in a matchup vs a mage is when they cs perfectly, manage their mana correctly, and/or have TP. If the melee plays way too aggressive and disrespects your range of course you should punish them, but you also should be building a gold lead or they'll just go off and 1shot the rest of your team. As yone or yasuo for example, I'm perfectly happy just going even in cs and then killing other squishies, it's basically a winning lane. (Just do be clear, I'm not saying DONT harass. But you shouldn't be giving up your gold lead, when your biggest advantage as a ranged champion is that you can punish you opponent for CSing. You can do both.)
2) There's not that many junglers who do lvl 2 ganks. Shaco is one, for example. If you play against a shaco, you'll just have to expect it. Know the matchups I guess. It can also be helpful to check before the game if the enemy jungler is premade with any laner. If he's pre with mid, you can expect more cheese.
As a Sett main I struggle against mages top lane or Teemos who are kite masters and this guide has really helped improve my landing
It’s like when you go fishing; with patience comes great result and you get the fish of the day. But without it, you’ll end up not getting it or worse, getting your rod broken in half.

Irelia has to push the wave early to stack passive and go for a heavy trade.
What's more OP, Fizz or Skill Capped?
Skill capped is more OP than other guide channels
They made a new tier for Skill Capped on Tier Lists. Nice vids. I wish I had money to actually access guide on your website. But if league hasn't died until 2024 or so. I'd be glad to see the full experience.
I was just thinking about how tilting it was to play a melee champ mid vs ranged and here we are :P
I want to ask a question, I am diamond 2 playing syndra vs a challenger autofill fizz. I know how to play this matchup, I don't push at level 1, play super aggressive level1 and2, ward to prevent their JG lvl2gank, slow pushes, wait for waves to bounce back, freeze and fizz cannot walk up. He is zoned away from experience and lose the lane. But how do you counter that as fizz if your opponent is playing properly? the only solution I can think of is to ask ur jgler to come to break the freeze for you. but does that mean every game the fizz needs the help from the jgler? that sucks
when I play fizz, I found my opponent doing this to do me and is really annoying, feeling really pressured in lane but there is nothing you can do. I always end up having like60cs vs 100cs in 10min playing fizz.
Pretty sick techniques . I got 3 consequtive first bloods just after completing the video (gold elo )
This is actually very informative, thank you.
The mistake Fizz makes is at 2:03, where he As that melee minion, after that when you say "he walks up for no reason at all" is not true. He walks up because that melee minion goes on an adventure and he wants to last hit it.
2:07 What do you mean "no reason at all"? The fizz went for the last hit on the melee minion.
And if you say that it still isn't the right choice that's not the point. The point is that you said that he didn't have a reason for the action when you should have said that the last hit wasn't worth for him or something like that
I've been playing a lot more LB lately, as I'm getting back into league. One thing I'm curious about, is when to take corrupting pots on her and when to take dorans ring?
you can pretty much always take corrupting potion
I played Diana vs Malz and did everything you said everything hapened as you said it would and when i hit lvl 3 i engaged on Malz and i had to flash out bcs of his dmg (the ranged minions werent hitting me) We both had TP. What could have i done wrong for him to win that trade? And am i bad or is Malz op?
Edit: When i engaged his Passive was on cooldown and he missed his q.
What do you do in a situation ranged vs ranged? Lets say vladimir vs Zoe? Or Leblanc? Do you push for level advantage and go for the all in? Or is it dependent on the abilities?
It depends on the abilities. You should learn the skills of the champs that usually get picked, poke them safely without losing too much mana and dodge their skills. Try to play with different champs so you can tell when they are going to use which skills. For example,I am a Seraphine main and when the enemy team has a Seraphine,i can tell exactly when she’s gonna use which skill against me and i dodge them most of the time. Also,it depends on the enemy’s playstyle. Are they just standing while hitting minions? Are they moving?
For example,Annie may run to you when her ultimate is ready. Next time she runs to you,you know what’s coming and what to do. Seraphine may stop hitting minions and try to come closer if she’s going to do a E+Q combo. Figure out what they do before using each skill. You should pay attention to these too
Great guide! I kind of wish you would have touched quickly on the Melee vs Melee and Ranged vs Ranged match ups for a second as well though. Keep up the good work.
Example: Katarina ("melee" but Q does damage from a distance) vs Syndra so how do you play for example Yasuo? Q Yasuo only works if you're close enough to the minion(s) and there's no other ability that can do any damage from a distance
Just out of curiosity, in the game of Kat vs Syndra, would the ignite kills Syndra? Ignite first would kill or wait a bit and take a turret shot then ignite?
But what do you do if you’re playing a melee and the ranged champion is doing what they’re supposed to do? Just be passive and farm under tower?
Nice video! I just think the ward at 3:24 is a bad habit, I call it a "greed ward" since it doesn't give you as much information as if you put it a little further or at chicken camp.
Hugging the ward side if enemy jg is the opposite can make u an ez escape route to it, if enemy jg is at it before his 1st back ur ward is a troll, in the video I think he knows that and kept track of enemy jg.
yea most useless ward ever, he put it in a better position in the leblanc game
The thing is enemy jungle is a level below him and he has barrier, the ward is just to see the enemy jingler a bit earlier, if enemy jungler comes the 40% hp fizz will greed and get killed or lux will turn on the enmy jungler thats a level lower and likely 70% hp. Lux has a massibe wave to help her out with the fight and two shields to stall time for the minions to do dmg and her cds to go down.
If he did ward further, it would take more time, making him lose minions therefore he would lose both experience and gold. There are many places to position your wards and in that case, it was the most reasonable option.
@@jianlofi not rly the "most reasonable" but it's totally ok ward to place.
What do you do vs ADC mid laners? If you all in at the health you had on Katarina, they can beat you with Press the Attack and Exhaust or Ignite. They often poke harder than some mages.
Midlaners definitely have a stronger lvl 6 and most adc are extremely vulnerable because they have barely any cc. So I would say let them push and wait for a jungle gank or your lvl 6. Until then, let them push and stay healthy.
How does this game plan work for yasuo/irelia? I feel like slow pushes are risky against champs that thrive off of having minions in lane
This was an amazing Guide ngl, my Jax is kind of cracked now.
you changed the way i play the game, thanks
So glad I found this guide
I actually learned so much from skill capped
The best video on mid lane i've ever seen
When I'm playing a ranged champion how do I deal with the melee enemy who pushes as much as possible. As a mage player I can't outpush them with my auto's so I can't build a slowpush unless maybe if I use my abilities. As a result the wave crashes under my turret and I'm still forced to use my abilities to last hit minions. The melee champions also take profit to poke me after they pushed (like Diana Q which is awkward to dodge, Yasuo Q and tornado, etc). I mainly play Ryze in the midlane and I guess it's the same case with other champions who go OOM fast and need Tear. Also Ryze's only "important" spell is W which is a slow and EW a root so even though I root my opponent who dashed on me, they have the time to auto attack me twice or three times. If I take profit of their abilities being on cd, they can still auto attack me and finish me. It's a bit weird because the melee assassins I face are over aggressive and constantly try to all in. Like I'd face a Talon who would sit in the the wave and wait till I dare approaching to W, he'd W me and even though I take profit of his W on cd, he'd then Q dashing on me. This type of opponent also doesn't let me farm and get lvl 2 while I have to kill the 2-3 caster minions from the first wave.
My second champion in the midlane is Cassiopeia. It's a bit easier to cs with her but her playstyle is opposite to the one adviced in the video. As far as I know Cassio should freeze the wave near her turret then look for all in's and avoid wasting mana on poking. Am I right or should I for example look for short trades with her (thus I'm not OOM and I still made my enemies low)?
Also assassins still have a good powerspike at lvl 6. In this example Fizz couldn't be effective because he was behind of Lux and due to the enemy jungler or Lux having barrier and stopwatch. Of course the main reason was because Lux applied her missions very well but what if the enemy melee champion is the one ahead? Should I still apply the missions of slowpushing, poking, etc? Because it's pretty risky to be pushed against an assassin who can all in at any time, especially with Ryze or Cassio who don't have reliable self peel.
Last question: what happens when both sides follow the missions? If the range champion pushes and melee one let it push towards himself. Then range champion pokes a bit and melee one stays relatively healthy. And if the range champion constantly saves his important abilities while the melee one constantly looks for opportunities to all in but doesn't do because range champion saves his important ability. How is the outcome decided?
Since this comment is so damn long, I would answer your first paragraph first, "If enemy trying to push the wave what should I do? "
If enemy try to push the wave by auto attack the minion, you can just auto attack him and use skill on him(and minion) so he lose his health and you can push the wave at the same time, then you keep attacking the wave. If enemy try to auto attack the wave again just do the same thing, repeat. At this point, enemy cannot all in you, because you have health advantage and minions wave.
About Cassiopeia..
She is just another range champion, do as the guide said and you'll be fine, don't try to make short trade with assassin, it never worth.
Ryze alongside with any hard scaling champions can be really weak during the early game. You should just focus on cs and survive the laning phase.
On Cassiopeia you should always poke when at a range advantage. I haven't played Cassio myself but I believe that freezing the wave near your turret is good.
When behind I usually only have one mindset. SURVIVE. Focus on csing, reacting to fights (scuttles, dragons, ganks), and when possible try to gank other lanes yourself. Just like the Ryze, play for the late game.
Just like what you mostly see in pro play, players make less mistakes resulting in a seemingly neutral start. But they always don't make the perfect decisions. When you spot a mistake on their behalves, always try to punish it. When getting pushed, request assistance from your teammates to gank you. And when you're shoving, try to play around objectives and ganking the other lanes.
Third question...
"What about fed Fizz?"
Dude, if you let Fizz get ahead, you're doomed, all you can do is stay safe, look for Fizz ult and is gap closer, punish him when he makes mistake. But what if he does no mistake you ask... Well, you doomed
That's the point of this video, if he is going for last hits or autos on minions to push as a melee you punish him there with your abilities and autos. You can bait out talon w and yasuo q and other similiar abilities by walking into the edge of their range and walking out.
If both players apply their respective strategies properly there won't be solo lane kills, as is most often the case in D1 and above. The game is decided by macro and teamplay mostly afaik
Does this work for top lane too? Like going morde vs vayne or teemo?? Top champs I use don’t have a good dive like mid champs and when I try to close the gap I get punished even under my own tower
If i gain 15 lp and loose 15 in gold 3 , can i still climb using the tactics on the guides or need new account no matter what
you used katarina to teleport near the enemy but what about garen?Garen cant tp and lets say i dont have tp in my summoner's spells too..then how can i do it??i have to move up close to him and he would back up when he sees me marching...please can you answer?
This was illuminatinh for me. Thx
If you could do more guide on *Game Plans Analysis* It would be amazing!
Its ez man just think what is ur champ is good at doing and better than oponent at doing it and just try to do it
If u r champ is good at poking so try to slow push the wave to lose the enemy cs than poke with ur range and look to dive with ur jungler sins the wave is crashed
If ur champ is good at roming just fast push and roam if ur champ is good at set up ganks just try to freeze so the jungler can gank
So at 5:10 you let your wave crash into the turret. But what's the next step? Roam? Base? Invading their jungler with your jungler?
helped me A LOT!
THX SO MUCH
2:10 Fizz isn't hitting a melee minion for "no reason at all." That was a big exaggeration. He is taking damage for the one reason you said it's ok: to collect CS. Risk was two autos.
But what do you do if you are playing with a range that knows whats he's doing and u cant last hit and by the time you are level 3 u cant all in no more?
Love this video, helps a lot thanks
So I've been trying to learn Orianna he mentioned how most ranged champions have some type of CC or a way to keep them safe, whereas Orianna really only has a sheild and w speed up which isn't enough to get away from all ins, does this just mean that I need to "perfect" lvl 1-3 to prevent them from even having the chance to all in?
Any tips appreciated
3 years later my request was acknowledged. Yay.

I really liked this new style broo
Tbh thats probably the one guide we all needed
what am i supposeed to do as Gnar lol? i mean, if you harass people with your range and last hit minikns and building up a slow push you are going to be mega while having lvl 2 and a half, and after a while you hit 3 in your mega (so you can still trade because you have 2 slows and a stun (and a really high ad)
also, if ill play him in the midlane, is it better to play him more like melee champion because of his small range? i would love to hear anything from you guys :D
What would be the important ability that keeps me safe from all ins in the case of viktor? since his w just takes so long
Q with fleet. Or Q aa Glacial.
What about if the other doesn't follow this steps, ex me as melee vs ranged, said the ranged doesn't slowpush towars me only last hitting and try to poke, what should I do in this situation, in the video as kata he follows the step vs syndra but isn't an option to make a slowpush towars her and try to crash the wave into her tower making her lost cs and get poked? O you can roam or put a deep ward, etc.
There is much more to ranged vs mellee than just this. For example, if you're a ranged mage vs someone like Fizz, who has no effecient wave clear early, that means the entire state of the lane is in your hands. Should Fizz auto the minion even *once* - he loses the lane right there and then. Because you can let the wave push to you then freeze in front of your tower and proceed to punish him for every CS he tries to take. And he won't be able to all in, because you're safe under your own tower. That would be *much* safer than trying to slow push, because that latter strategy still leaves you vulnerable to ganks. And this one doesn't. Please, let me know if I'm missing something here.
If Fizz slow pushes into you he can trade with you and you can't harrass last hits and such well because Fizz has the minion advantage and level lead. In this case you also can't harrass the opponent under turret. Fizz can engage onto you even if pushing to your turret because of Fizz's E.
@@ijuka The whole point of that is to freeze under your tower. That way there will be no possibility for Fizz to even try and trade. Because his only way of going all-in and trading with a ranged champion is by using his E. And if he uses it to get to a champion under the tower, he's going to lose the trade horribly. Meanwhile, the ranged champion could zone him away from CS completely, building up a huge gold lead.
That's not even my strategy, by the way. It's DOPA's.

How can the ranged champion zone him out completely? If he attempts, Fizz just allins him because the ranged champion's so far up. For at least 3 waves the waves will be in the middle of the wave, and during that time Fizz has free reign to harrass. You also can't tank his wave to freeze or he can indeed allin you. Fizz wouldn't use the E to gap close under turret, he'd gap close with Q obviously. Fizz is the best turret diving champion in the game along with Elise due to Fizz's E.
@@ijuka Well, just watch Dopa's video and you'll see how.
I played a melee and ranged champ top side still lost mid game. Need advice where do I send clips?
Thanks for the vid! I wanted to ask about the first gameplan as ranged into melee, because when Dopa played TF into Fizz, he let himself get shoved in so he could freeze. He slowly grew cs lead, and eventually came out of lane way ahead. When would you use that strategy as opposed to slow pushing like in the video?
He plays against korean challengers. This video only efficient for lower diamond only!
Can u make a video on how to play the range side vs something who loves to push as melee like talon?
This is awesome. my only question is, as the ranged champ what do i do after level 6? always respect his kill threat and let the wave push to my side? or do i still apply pressure?
I think if u play like said in this video u can get fed and win, otherwise just dodge ulti/ roam for kills if u cant kill
what is the best option for a melee with weak wave clear when you solo kil lenemy laner but can push the wave like should i just gobase and lose the wave or what am i soupused t o do ?
If enemy wave is slow pushing towards your tower and you think it won't crash , you should recall, but if you think it'll crash and you will lose many cs, you could just make the wave thinner then recall.
You thin the wave so that it's solo pushing towards you frozen for the duration of your base, and then recall.
the only takeaway i got from this was that low elo conditions players to not be punished for simple mistakes then as they climb they have to adapt bc of how completely incorrect theyve been playing before hand
8:22 but what can u do if ur melee champ doesn't have a good all in at lvl 3 and only a decent all in at lvl 6?
For example viego the new champ his lvl 3 is not the best and lvl 6 is just ok he need some items first...?
Thank you so much Skill Capped! You guys are the best! Hope you all reach high challenger and get me subscribers!
this channel is a gold mine
How can you all in without any engage tool? They just kite and get free 50% hp damage. I'm mainly talking about Garen.
could you make a guide on how to punish mistakes from the enemy jungler as jungle?
What about talon? He turns on at level two and can push the wave easy.
This is what i wonder, Talon doesnt really want to wait for lvl 3 since he can abuse lvl 2, but im guessing trying to all in at lvl 2 with less stats would be bad idea mostly because the enemy wave would be in a bad position for us, So maybe we should stick with the video Plan but instead of using lvl 3 to learn E, just learn W/Q again, and wait for lvl 4 to learn E, ofc this would only work if we know where the enemy jungle started so he doesnt mess the all in at lvl 3, also you dont really need E if you are being pushed.
Really great video once again!
I REALLY enjoyed, that you explained both theoretically and practically how to win those matchups.
I have only one question left after this video. If you have played ranged, and your opponent has been playing safe, as you mentioned in video, what shall I do as range champ? Their all-in potential is much higher than main. Of course save such important abilities as escapes and cc, but is it really enough?
Thank you!
you got any guides for melee vs meleee and range vs range too?
what about akali? i mean do i try to e her and then q + aa + w or w to get closer to her?
how do i bait point and click cc like annie q + passive or ryze's cc without dying or loosing 3/4 of my hp?
How to 1v3 in lane and kill them all when jg sup diff huge?
