@D335Media - the class 153 performs perfectly. It is honestly one of the smoothest units I have - and in my experience, there is absolutely no justification at all for an entire single unit to be blacked out and filled with weight/motor/chassis.
Must thank the Author for pointing out the difference in colour shade,cos in this film it looks like Malachite green,not the Arriva "Aqua" we're used to. This has been the first DMU I have bought made by Bachmann & despite the critisisms,the person it was bought for thinks it's great.Okay so my son's only five years old,but he's seen the real thing running along the Norwich-Sherigham line & it calls it the Blue Train. A top model for the price we paid(approx £40/£50.
The 150 is a very, very modern looking loco - mainly due to the fact that it is very modern... Wouldn't mind a pair of these for my new layout as it is Modern and Steam based! They'd look brilliant in the terminus! Bachmann seem to be going for the very uneconomical approached packaging - but still - it keeps the loco safe :) The excellent thing about this set is that the couplings between the coach and drive unit are the type that leaves minimum gap between the units - yay!! Nice review! 5*****
Hi. you could try setting up the white balance on the camera. Hold a white sheet of paper in front of the camera at about 30-50 cm distance , in the location and lighting where you will be filming. Then hit the white balance button on the camera. This tells the camera what white should look like and it will adjust the rest of the colours accordingly. Help that helps.
I've got the 150 in this livery so I doubt I'll get it in any other. If I do, it'll be Regional Railways as I used to see them all the time when I was little and nostalgia is a powerful thing.
i am getting this set for x-mas i cant wait i am also getting a arriva class 153 wat do u think of the class 153 do u think it is anygood anyway great vid
@TheIntercityhst - hmmmm, well I've seen photos of 150s with black snowploughs and photos of 150s with yellow snowploughs. I'll check what Arrive are supposed to have and follow that.
just been on google images after your reply and found some pics of arriva 150s and beleve it or not they are black but they can certainly be yellow too but only on other 150s. yellow ploughs are'nt meant for this particular dmu.
Hey, do you know what the "little tool that seems to connect the two units together" at 3:55 is actually called or where I can buy spares? I recently dug up my favourite train (which was this class, mainly cuz it had lights) from a while back and found this piece is literally in halves. (and I can't find the second half). Hope you see this and have a nice day :)
@rw2train - I have done some weathering but with powders, not an airbrush. And yes, this loco lost points in my opinion due to an entire unit being filled with a motor.
just in case you are painting them i thought you should know, whilst videoing trains at west allerton a northern rail 150 came in and the ploughs are indeed black. oly on a 156 they are yellow( the ploughs are unfortunetly not on hornbys model :)
If you took the body off any bachmann loco you'd see that the big block in the motor car is essentially the chassis block and weight. It's standard size for bachmann to stick it in that way. Not sure how Hornby modelled the 153, but if you can see seats through the unit it would suggest to me the chassis block is actually quite small, therefore making it quite light for its size and style of traction. Excellent part 1 none the less cheif!
Re- strange colours. Artificial 'white light' tends to muck up the colours in both film and video so something called 'white balance' is used to compensate for those effects. If you haven't had a play with White Balance (and most decent video cameras will have this tucked away in some awful menu structure) you might like to try having a play with the Manual settings the next time there's some weird colour issue going on. P.S. have been getting the Hornby mag since watching your review
It does seem really bizarre blanking all of those windows. With a locomotive/unit like this, you could quite easily have all of the electrical systems, motors and such mounted between the frames of the bogie. The motors would be small and not very powerful, but if all four bogies were driven, both units could have the same level of interior detail. That said, it would probably drive the price up a bit.
It is recommended to use a digital controller, but most decoders are 'compatible with DC'. Many say that damage can occur by running DCC trains on DC, and the performance is often very poor. Your choice!
I bought the same class 150 in arriva, but it took half an hour for the shop keepers to take it out of the display cabinet! The price of it was £88 which is normal but they charged me £176 for it and they took 10 minuits to box it up, they just couldn't do their job properly. so when i got home i realised they thought i was buying 2 seperate trains, because it was a 2 car DMU, i went back to the shop and got them to give me the money back that they owed me. What idiots!
at 7:02 the colour is correct! not so gr8 with the nem tho, as bachmann dont make a duplicate loco with different number so just hard work :/ u could always couple it 2 an arriva 153 tho!
@SmashBangCrash Having multiple companies replicating the same model makes no sense. As long as a product isn't so bad that a competetor can see a value in making a better version, it's better for them to create something original instead. For example, it would make little sense for Hornby to produce a Class 104 than try to compete with Bachmann's excellent Class 108.
those couplings are a bitch especially when you have a 4 car Xc voyager !!! I hate putting that thing back on the track after time of it being packed up !
I've got that 150 and it's my favorite out of all of my trains. :D
K

looks great.even better with abit of weathering to compliment all that detail.
bachman train are my kind of favourite train sets

@Traintronxes no it's just one - the connector between the units passes DCC control to the lights in the other unit.

Bachman are bringing out more 150's in other liveries
The First North Western Weathered one is amazing and only £82.99 at Ian Allan
i am getting this set for x-mas i cant wait i am also getting a arriva class 153 wat do u think of the class 153 do u think it is anygood anyway great vid

nice to be back awsome dude!
@captaincoolpants11 - it's their new chip. It can cope with multiple functions, like lights and sound, providing ample power to them all.
just been on google images after your reply and found some pics of arriva 150s and beleve it or not they are black but they can certainly be yellow too but only on other 150s. yellow ploughs are'nt meant for this particular dmu.

Most of their models are excellent - yes.

do you mean that the camra is makeing it look green or is it that the model trian green to you as well as the camra.
@trainboymatt - it's DCC ready, has directional lighting and ultra high detail
There will be a series of Christmas vids yes.

I've just got a 150 DMU in the same arrive livery today. I haven't run it yet .
I do need to do one of those yes!

Hey Will, Is this the 150/2 cause Im getting a 150 with A flat front which i think is a 150/1
@OOTrainsandModels - that's better than a completely blanked out train
The new Hornby DVT used a new package, same with bachmann one, I think that is quite a improvement.
dimensions are on my website database!
@Rbrownsell - your selected video is coming up soon too ;)
From 6:35, the trains look like they are the correct colour!!!
When are you gonna do the 168 bybachmann
is there going to be a set of christmas episodes like last years DMU dancing
@teddystorm1 - thanks!
It is recommended to use a digital controller, but most decoders are 'compatible with DC'. Many say that damage can occur by running DCC trains on DC, and the performance is often very poor. Your choice!
great vid will ... what about the Hornby Class 60 next.
@ApacheBravo - thank you for that! A draw bar I shall call it from now on :)
You only need 1 due to the fancy connection between the units.
how many decoders do you need i have been told they need two
OMG! What shop was that?? They need naming and shaming!
When it is digital, does that mean you HAVE to use a digital controller? Sounds like a dumb question but it was on my mind..
@LondonRoadRailway - if you can put a SIM card in a mobile phone, you can fit a decoder to a DCC ready loco ;)
I recommend the 57XX in any livery
@Whizzer1 in this video Part 1 near the end of this video the train is in its Turqouise not the green
@irwellsteam - lol, not quite :) am back again
hi InterCity82 will i I did Like your vid on the Class 150 from Bachmann
Thank you
@USAtrain129 - oh awesome! :) make sure u run it in
I like the apple green.
fantastic a truely supberb reveiw one of your best!! :) i still think bachmann tried with the seats though eh?
very nice
@2009Buzza - yup
@graystrainspotter - Trident Trains just outside of Nantwich
well the drive unit has got a motor in it and it would be hard to fit seats and plus i don't think it would look good
i like the green
witch 150 is it? 150/1 150/2 150/3 or 150/4
im getting this one
from about 6:50 colour is turquoise which is good
Where did you buy ur class 150
is bachman a good company????
its really detailed i might buy one in n gauge
@mike96dundee - it does :)
@JohnMC894 very well made comment!
Can you get the class150 in scotrail livery
@jaannetts16 - in Arriva Jaike?
@itgamer100 - it is a good model
There is a merseyside version limited to hattons which I have very good dmu love the video giving it a like
@Whizzer1 - must have just been the light
i don't have bachmann :( but i do have hornby oxford rail and a life like f40ph
@citaro31 - this train is amazing - but it's not as amazing as people tried to make it out to me (namely the windows) - other than that - go for it :)
I bought the same class 150 in arriva, but it took half an hour for the shop keepers to take it out of the display cabinet! 6:00 it goes the right colour!
Why not paint it blue like the pacer is
cool videos
i think its a good green that the camera picked up
Its blacked out because of the engine its not daft because better having 1 car with seats than none!
But i still liked it oo i have the same 150!!!
Ive been on arriva train!!!!!
PH designs do a thing for the windows it makes it slightly better
@mike96dundee - it sure is
@matanuialive2010 - there are many things they could have done - but for some reason - didn't. Very odd.
@joetorsneyTrains - I don't know to be honest. I won't be buying another.
Hi how much does she sell for?
Hornby if your watching this TAKE NOTE of the packaging :)
at 7:02 the colour is correct! not so gr8 with the nem tho, as bachmann dont make a duplicate loco with different number so just hard work :/ u could always couple it 2 an arriva 153 tho!
well they dont want u to see the motor when its driving around just so u can see the few seats that would fit around the motor.
at 6:27 it changes to a more turquoise colour
@dilwich123 - haha thank u
I know what you mean about the colers. Arriva are driving in th cauntry where I live
@thomasandferdinand14
yeah.i've been driving them for nearly 16 years. ;o)
it actually suits the loco apple green! lol
@TrainBoy11000 - 'does'? It comes DCC ready - 21 PIN.
Maybe Bachmann will repair this Class 150

Trident Trains
I REALLY WANT TO MEET YOU IN MINECRAFT!!!!!!
i think apple green suits it
those couplings are a bitch especially when you have a 4 car Xc voyager !!! I hate putting that thing back on the track after time of it being packed up !
