Great video, thanks. I picked up this set for £40 a couple of weeks ago in the Hornby Visitor Centre near Margate. They were obviously selling off their Thomas range. I also got 2 sets of 3 wagons for £12 each. It's all currently in a cupboard unopened waiting to give to my son for Christmas
I know that Percy can be very cheeky sometimes.
I'm coming over to his house to give him a few tips about life in the summer!

Hey Will I just started watching your reviews. I have a Hornby James from the Royal Mail stamp collection. This was my first engine. I have since purchased the red express composite and brake coaches, a green brake coach, Flying Scotsman and a single troublesome truck. The Thomas range will be brought back sometime this year. It has been rumored that the range will use new body tooling to resemble the television series models but I think it may stick to the original. The cool thing about how I have my engines is that I live in the U.S. So most of my engines are Bachmann but the Hornby OO scale locomotives run perfectly on HO track. Anyways great review!

Indeed, Hornby have discontinued their Thomas & Friends range altogether. But in 2020, Bachmann will bring Thomas and all his friends Back for Good on to the shelves of a model shop near you.

Well, the older controller was the same controller they used for their slot cars, which are meant to go at crazy racetrack speeds. That's why there's that turbo zone.

I think the new Sentinel, Extra Long CCT, Mk1s, Mk2s are some of the best affordable models from Hornby. They can use that for the "Collectors Club" model :) A special Hornby Sentinel will be great....

They have stopped doing the Thomas range since last year i think I'm lucky to have Thomas Percy James & Stepney
They have pretty much stopped the Thomas and friends range, but if you look on the hornby site, you'll find that they still have Gordon and the Percy & The Mail Train Set. And of course Bachmann is still producing their own Thomas and Friends range like crazy!
Hornby have said they haven't stopped it. Just omitted it until supply issues are resolved. It seems to have ironed out now. Looking forward to seeing them next year.

Oh the irony, Bachmann treats foreign models with much more respect than their own American models. I'm serious, their spectrum is about as good as a low grade with minor detail Hornby model.

TheDixieNutjob yes kato is Japanese in fact they originally made Japanese locomotives and rolling stock before making American locomotives and rolling stock. That's why you see made in Japan on the boxes instead made in China and Overland Models says made in Korea.

I actually have quite a few Thomas and Friends models, I imagine they are worth quite a bit as the whole range was discontinued this year :P
The most valuable ones are probably Oliver and Stepney; the cheapest I've seen them go for is £300 :P
I have Stepney. I got mine for about $90 AUD. (Which is around about £43 GBP)

I wonder how hard it would be to imitate the TPO's mechanism. It's pretty neat, I'd love to do an American RPO like that
I would wager that controller's so light because it's only the rheostat, the actual transformer's in the plug.
...Thinking about it, putting them on the inside might have worked if you'd had the hook by the siding and the bin by the power track.
I know they're on the inside in Hornby's ad video for this set.

A fun little starter set. A pity if Hornby have stopped this range as it is a way of getting kids interested in model railways. Btw, Btw, Brize Norton is in Oxfordshire, quite a way from Crewe but they may fly over you when you are videoing just to annoy you!

Keith Tucker I think I probably meant Hawarden near Chester. Not that it makes any difference. They could fly from Glasgow to Edinburgh and they'd still go over Crewe - just to annoy me.
Jeremiah Jefferson Bunyan If Hornby was smart they should suspend for five to seven years and then rerelease them again like Disney did with their blockbuster cartoon films for decades. Another generation of kids to sell too.

I'd disagree with that because from a business point of view that would be the wrong thing to do. TTTE is a very profitable range and leaving them out for 5-7 years would then mean that the market would get too big and Hornby cannot fulfil the entire market. A 1-2 year gap is good enough.

Very nicely done. I do wish you'd stop ragging on big tension-lock couplers though.
same I do see where will is coming from though nem couplers are much better and look much more realistic but as long as they get the job done, work with most other couplers, they are fine to me

Bachmann also do a Thomas and Friends range that is more acurate to the TV characters instead basing them of their prototypes (what hornby does). So if you need a chararcter that hornby doesnt make, bachmann probably do... watch Simeriski's videos to see whether the hornby or bachmann ones are better... for example... Hornby make the best Thomas and Percy. Bachmann though make the best Toby and Edward. Take a look into which is better before you buy a Thomas and Friends model.

I think its possible, however it may be more difficult as some of the locos are not DCC Ready

hornby Percy is too fast so i like the bachmann Thomas and Percy are better than hornby are going to get a bachmann Thomas
