Some mixers have 'Tape Out', with unbalanced RCA jacks. Works good for short runs. Depending on the circumstance, a stereo out can also be taken from the head phone jack. Mackie make a point of the headphone jack as an optional out put with plenty of signal.
Over all and excellent instructional video.
One note, if a mono signal is recorded in the camera, in post, the track can be doubled for a Left/Right output, but will not be stereo. Most of us know what you meant, but a total newbie will need to understand a double mono will not have stereo imaging. - Cheers

Thank you so much for this! I hopped onto eBay and got the DXA-2T, exactly the blue one in the video, for $50. It was EXACTLY what I needed to go from Mixcast 4, to our Sony ZV-E10. Now I get the pro quality sound from our studio, right into our main camera so I don't have to sync it in post anymore. This is going to save me hours every week!

    A thousand thanks!
How could I not think of a simple RCA-3.5mm cable?!
I use a Pioneer DJ console so it obviously has the mixer wih stereo outputs ecc..
I took it for granted that it wouldn't work without an interface, so I always tried with the classic "iRig" interface and it never worked (but it did with the phone, connected by earphone 3,5 plug).
By connecting the RCA cable, and setting the volume to -3dB, it immediately worked. Thanks again !!! Subscribed!!

Best enlightening video I have ever seen on audio for live streams.
I have a query. I had to cover a stage program recently, I requested an audio out from the sound operator. I gave him my cable with quarter inch heads. I recorded the event, keeping DSLR audio level to 1. still the audio was distorted/jarred probably due to high power. even after my requests, operator was unwilling to minimize the level. what solution you suggest in these situation. those audio interfaces sit on cameras are they helpful ?

Firstly Thank You , your explinations and demos are the best I seen on RUclips. I have a question? I teach Live Fitness Streaming Workouts, that I record simultaneously on DSLR Camera. These HYBRID workouts are fed to the camera mic input via Cotrol Monitor output, HOWEVER I've struggled to balance the recorded mix (as the mic volume is over powered by music in the video recording)
I may have missed it but do you have a video specifically addressing HYBRID recording to DSLR camera ?

    1.)live streaming(RUclips) and 2.)stage performance sir?
Because when we start a live or recording particularly when both the singer sings and the musical instrument (Keyboard 🎹)played at a same time the audio was not clear, noisy, unclear in the live streaming or recording..high buzzing sound has been produced instead of the singer and 🎹 instrument performance...but not in the stage performance (it is always ok)..
and also what cables we should use especially for live streaming and where should we connect those cables sir?

Will I need DI box, iRigStream, Tascam iXZ, interface, Beachtek-DXA-2T(shown in this video) or any other for that?

Once I recorded my video with sound out from mixer(main) into my iPhone but as you said mixer’s main output was so loud my recorded video had over gained and distorted audio in it.

With my gear: a Zoom Q2n 4K video camera and a Mackie Mix8 it seems like I need to turn up the input volume knob on the camera as I tried it with the output volume from 1 of 10 all the way to 8 of ten on the mixer out to the camera and even at the 8 of 10 setting the audio volume on the camera was way WAY too low barely audible at all actually. So a good point to aim for in setting volume is the -6 mark on the volume indicator on the camera?

      Great question.
Wireless systems are great if you're on the move and capturing stuff as fast as possible. Sometimes this is worth it.
      In the studio, wireless is:
      1) Lower quality
      2) More susceptible to interference.
      3) A pain in the butt to manage batteries every day
      4) More points of failure.

You probably solved this. But if you use a Y splitter. Go onto your phone recorder app. When you plug the splitter into your phone, make sure the recorder app is already open. Then also make sure the 2 female mic and headphones connections dont have anything connected to them yet. The screen should show that you're using an external mic source now, not the phones built in mic.

I have been using the “headphones output” to go to my camcorder. Is this a realistic 4th option or is there a real negative to using headphones?( other than losing the option to actually use the headphones off the board)
    I notice a slight hum/hiss using headphones.

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  2 года назад +1

Great question. Technically "yes", it's a 4th option.
That being said, headphone outputs are typically "lower quality" and audio companies don't put a lot of effort here. This is typically where they try to save money.
Hearing that you notice a hiss is not surprising, these low quality headphone amps/outputs often generate a lot of hiss/noise, especially if you turn them up past 50%.

Do you need an audio interface to connect a video camera to a mixer or can I connect a camera directly to the mixer?

The last option in this video shows you how to connect directly.

I have a brand new Yamaha mixer it was working fine.. A few days ago I turned it on to voice a commercial and I could barley hear anything.. When I put the volume up the mic sounds all distorted and there is a cracking sound coming out of the speakers and headphones.. I never changed anything and everything is plugged in the same as it was.. I used it one night it was working fine and the next day when I turned everything back on I had that problem. I thought it might of been settings in my computer but I tried everything and I tried it on a different computer and it's the same thing! Can anyone help??
